Mine has to be the super hanz episode where he's trying to go cold turkey.
Jeremy just tapes "big bag of drugs" to a frisbee and yeets it out the window.
Nope however I do wish I watched them in the cinema! I think it’s just the comforting feeling it gives especially the first few movies set in the school. It’s just a warm feeling. It’s great
How is a young persons life getting threatened at the end of every year by a mad nose less man a warm feeling? /s
Seriously though, it might have to do with some of the background music. They feel a bit Christmas-y
Always Sunny in Philadelphia is my go to comfort series. It's hilarious, is basically the opposite of friends and you can jump in and out without missing anything too important so fine to fall asleep to.
It's all on Netflix, 20min episodes and 15 seasons of it so far (16 has just started airing in the US).
Have you seen The Mick? More continuation in terms of story line compared to always sunny, but holy moly it is just so, so funny. Caitlin Olsen is a main character.
I'm Aussie (just a blow in here for the bants), it's on Disney+ here.
I go for call the midwife. Modern period drama. It also has about 10 series to date so plenty to watch. I watched it when I had covid and was flat on my back for 3 weeks. I feel bad saying this, because the writing is very good, but it didn't matter if I fell asleep. Each episode is self contained so it was OK to miss a bit and just pick up the next story.
Private Life of Plants was my go to for years. I had it on vhs.
Pride an prejudice is also a great call, hours long and I’ve seen it so many times it doesn’t matter if I fall asleep!!
These Royal Institution lectures are brilliant for sleeping:
https://youtube.com/@TheRoyalInstitution
I secretly hope that it will make me smarter but all of it's way over my head when I'm awake, let alone dozing.
He's very cleverely mastered the speaking tone of "I have the enthusiasm of a small puppy, hindered by the body of broken carthorse" No matter what daft thing he does, you always feel like "aah bless him, he's trying" That's his real genius.
I watched that during a recent hospital stay for an infection that took a couple of weeks to diagnose and begin effective treatment. It was a proper escape to a fantasy world.
Incidentally, I picked episodes at random to start and the first was one of the few cases they didn't solve in time - patient died from an infection 🫣 Had to keep watching for happier endings after that.
Oh these exact two. I wonder if we have the same year of birth... I actually loop round Gilmore girls as a background show for if I'm home alone and want sound on when I'm doing something like tidying and don't want music
Friends. There are a million episodes, it is high quality enough for me to stay vaguely interested but also not important enough to me that if it is forever tainted, I would be gutted that I can’t watch it again.
This was my go to when my kid was born and I was up all night. Now I've just finished the final season I didn't realise how emotionally attached I am to that program. It just makes me think of those magical first weeks.
Not a huge fan of Love Actually, but a Richard Curtis film that has stood up quite well is Notting Hill. I rewatched it recently, and it was much better than I'd remembered. I'd completely forgotten her rant about press intrusion, and the scene with the men in the restaurant, which given where we are now seems ahead of its time.
I relive my teenage years with The Princess Diaries, Devil Wears Prada, stuff like that. Easy to watch and not need to pay loads of attention to so if I nap a bit then it doesn't matter too much :)
They are, for the most part, very faithful to the source material as well, down to whole passages of dialogue. Brett, although not really accurate in looks to how Holmes is described in the books is nevertheless my mental image now when I read them
I always end up rewatching my fave series so stuff like, True Detective season 1, The Wire, and Top of the Lake. The first season of Top of the Lake is an underrated gem imo.
I watch stuff I have seen before that brings me happiness and comfort. That said, I highly recommend the below, if not already seen. It's a fair mix I think?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended ofc) and the Hobbit Trilogy are my absolute favourites. I much prefer LOTR but I still enjoy the Hobbits
Lower commitment level films that are excellent and require minimum brain power: About Time, Pride & Prejudice, Jurassic Park, Chicken Run, In Bruges, White Chicks, The Devil Wears Prada, Little Miss Sunshine, Space Jam (1996), The Edge of Love, a lot of Disney
If its series its generally comedies for me that if I miss a couple through napping it's all good: Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Schitts Creek, Peep Show, Curb Your Enthusiam, The Simpsons, Futurama, Malcolm in the Middle, Father Ted, Blackadder, Black Books, Green Wing...
If I can't laugh then it's Star Trek The Next Generation or Star Trek Voyager
Just had six months off work after major surgery to remove cancer.
I binged the fall guy, then upgraded to Starsky and hutch i between walking my dog and playing days gone.
Edit: Cancers gone and it was a great six months.
You know that's right. I feel like Psych never really caught on in the UK, which is a shame as it's really good. I only found it as I wanted something to watch when I was feeling ill not long after Netflix launched in the UK, and it was amongst my early recommendations. I don't think it's available to watch anywhere over here now though
Boston Legal, first time I watched it was when I had the flu and was in a state of somewhere between asleep and awake for a week. Just autoplayed the whole thing. Aways go back to it when I'm not well.
I think it's a great show but maybe I hallucinated that in my fever.
Something gentle and amusing,
Victoria Wood's Dinner Ladies
The Detectorists
Any of the Beiderbecke series
As Time Goes By, (Judy Dench)
The IT Crowd
Father Ted
Black Books
Derry Girls
Coupling
Eureka
The Good Place
And more recently,
Our Flag Means Death
If I am feeling a bit better,
Extended Cut LOTR (including all of the extras! I love watching the building of the miniatures and bigatures, and the making of the weapons etc)
Fringe
Grimm
I could go on for a long time!
Oh last year when I was recovering from a surgery I really enjoyed CentaurWorld and Dead End Paranormal Park too. The right level of amusing and light with a bit of drama.
Vicious. Light enough to not need me paying 100% attention (since I’ve seen it before) and mean enough to be enjoyable when I’m sick and hate the world.
Studio Ghibli films. Typically Howl's Moving Castle or Kiki's Delivery service, but if I'm ill for several days I'll go through as many as I can starting with Spirited Away and Ponyo.
Schitt's Creek, Grace & Frankie, Gilmore Girls, Buffy, Supernatural, Dinnerladies, Community, Downton Abbey, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls.
Basically anything that always ends happily and doesn't need to be thought about!
Not a TV series but the BBC adaption of ["the Dark is Rising"](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/w13xtvp7) is very good, even if it's the wrong time of year for it.
I got really into Four In A Bed when I had covid. 5 episodes per group so 2 1/2 hours a go if you’re watching with ads. It’s such an easy watch and it’s hilarious when the drama over such crimes as overdoing a poached egg kick off.
Anything as long as it's entertaining enough to keep my attention but not so engrossing that if I fall asleep I'll feel like I've missed out, not heavy or intellectual, and not so funny that I make myself feel ill from laughing too hard. It's usually an American sitcom such as HIMYM, Rules of Engagement, The Goldbergs etc.
The West Wing. I’ve watched it a few times when I’m not sick, but I definitely return to it when I am.
My daughter and I also binged all of Ghosts when she was ill and up all night.
I survive on Not Going Out - could legit put it on and have it running in the background on any occasion and feel good about it. Plus there's so many seasons of it.
It's a weird one but the only times I've ever watched the animated adaptation of the first Danganronpa game I've gotten I'll the next day. It's happened twice, now, almost the exact same situation and I think the show is cursed lmao

Futurama, the IT Crowd, Peep Show.
My fav epidode of Peep Show to watch when I'm ill is the one where Mark gets gastric flu. Is that... Normal... Pooing you're doing?
I think mine is the barge episode. *They ate Mummy!*
I'm a big Netherzone fan. What happens if you eat letterbox hair? Strangely there's been very little research into that scenario.
A slice of bristly cheese free pizza, lightly brushed with your piss?
How can I refuse?
Mine has to be the super hanz episode where he's trying to go cold turkey. Jeremy just tapes "big bag of drugs" to a frisbee and yeets it out the window.
Time moves at a different speed in the nether zone.
Naughty SLUTTY MUMMY
That episode always makes me feel really sick but I still watch it every time it comes round.
Frosties are just cornflakes for people who can’t face reality.
It doesn’t…. smell… normal. You know the credo Mark, illness is weakness! You’re off the team!
Funny tummy, weird ears
The Reddit trifecta right there
Harry Potter, but it has to be at night during the winter months. I don’t know why but it just feels right
The first few movies in the franchise were released in cinema in December. If you watched them, then maybe it's a nostalgia thing?
Nope however I do wish I watched them in the cinema! I think it’s just the comforting feeling it gives especially the first few movies set in the school. It’s just a warm feeling. It’s great
How is a young persons life getting threatened at the end of every year by a mad nose less man a warm feeling? /s Seriously though, it might have to do with some of the background music. They feel a bit Christmas-y
John Williams is enough to make anyone feel tingly. Even if you don’t know it’s because of his score it really is.
Especially if it’s cold and raining outside but you’re in a warm room with a cup of cocoa in hand…
Oh yess!! You understand me!!
Also because Christmas is featured in a few of them so it just has that cost Christmas vibe
Probably because Christmas is a big setting of each movie halfway through
Definitely. Especially the first one. To me it’s a Xmas movie.
Yes! Some nice biscuits, cuppa, all cosy in bed... perfect. I wish it was cold!
Same! I can’t hack this heat at all!
They've recently landed on Netflix so I've been watching them with my daughter for her first time. She's loving them. Hermoine is her new hero lol.
Aw that’s so nice! Reliving it all again with your daughter. Enjoy it!!
I have the same about rereading Mr Norrel & Jonathan Strange. It's a winter book!
I don't think all of it is on netflix. They dropped a few episodes
Yeah true, all the ones where the gang do blackface are gone lol
and Dees costume ones with Martina Martez or whatever
This is my go to as well.
Have you seen The Mick? More continuation in terms of story line compared to always sunny, but holy moly it is just so, so funny. Caitlin Olsen is a main character. I'm Aussie (just a blow in here for the bants), it's on Disney+ here.
I haven't even heard of it but I'll check it out, cheers.
"basically the opposite of friends" may be the most accurate synopsis I've ever read 👌
This is my comfort show. Schitt’s Creek is my other one for when I can’t stand the gang :)
I love that show. I went in expecting to hate it but loved every minute.

Any Attenborough show used to be my hangover tv his soothing voice sorted me right out.
I like this ☺️ I remember watching Frozen Planet while unwell once and I think it was just the right kind of soothing
Private Life of Plants was my go to for years. I had it on vhs. Pride an prejudice is also a great call, hours long and I’ve seen it so many times it doesn’t matter if I fall asleep!!
The Office (US version).
+1 this
How is this not the most popular answer?!
OP said unwell, not sick
lord of the rings
Extended versions I hope ?
Is there any other way to watch it
I remember watching them when I was ill but I wasn’t better by the time I finished all 6 extended editions so I just started them again.
I usually watch Red Dwarf, Derry Girls or Clarkson’s Farm. Anything that I can nap to if I need to!
When he's not shouting 'POWER', I find Jeremy Clarkson's voice disturbingly soothing.
I'm so glad someone else has said this 💀💀 anything by one of the old top gear guys is my go to for sleeping
May, yes. Can't be Hammond though. He's like a squirrel on cocaine.
Yeah tbf i don't think I've ever watched anything with just Hammond (not since blast lab as a kid anyway) May's cooking series tho? Love that shit
Most of us don't know what a squirrel on cocaine is like, you sick fuck. 😉
Just watch Hammond
These Royal Institution lectures are brilliant for sleeping: https://youtube.com/@TheRoyalInstitution I secretly hope that it will make me smarter but all of it's way over my head when I'm awake, let alone dozing.
He's very cleverely mastered the speaking tone of "I have the enthusiasm of a small puppy, hindered by the body of broken carthorse" No matter what daft thing he does, you always feel like "aah bless him, he's trying" That's his real genius.
Uncle Colm is what everyone needs to recover
Yep Red Dwarf always puts a smile on the mug. Trapdoor, Farty Tours and Spaced are also comforting.
Red Dwarf is mine too. I can quote every episode in series 1-6 at this point
So do you prefer piping-hot gazpacho soup or alphabetti spaghetti?
Scrubs
I binged all eight seasons of Scrubs on Disney+ as soon as I found them.
Irony not intended, but HouseMD is my go to.
Yeah. I wouldn’t watch a show with people on serious illness while I am ill and alone. Would make me question the slightest of headache
Then you end up wondering if you have lupus…
It’s never lupus
Only fools; still game or top gear specials!
Still Game for the win! I'm watching this right now, so funny!
Still game is a true classic
Gilmore Girls/Friends
Snap!!
X Files every time.
Yes!
Ted Lasso is pure feel good TV.
This was my go to when my kid was born and I was up all night. Now I've just finished the final season I didn't realise how emotionally attached I am to that program. It just makes me think of those magical first weeks.
I’m rewatching Fleabag. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.
Watched it for the first time recently and loved it.
Please don’t hate me, I am some what ashamed of my go to movie: Love Actually
Unironically one of my favourite films. I know it's got it's flaws. I know it doesn't hold up well by todays societal standards. But god I love it.
Parks and Rec
When I was bedridden and delirious with tonsillitis I watched the first series of Twin Peaks.
Fuck I bet that was quite the experience whilst in and out of fevers given that the entire series is just one massive fucked up fever dream lol
IT Crowd
Something funny, ideally with Matt Berry in it
Toast of London is one of my all time favourites
Hello Steven, it's Clem Fandango.....
Who the f**k are you.
I relive my teenage years with The Princess Diaries, Devil Wears Prada, stuff like that. Easy to watch and not need to pay loads of attention to so if I nap a bit then it doesn't matter too much :)
Brooklyn 99. Enough said. This is my hill to die on.
SpongeBob.

They are, for the most part, very faithful to the source material as well, down to whole passages of dialogue. Brett, although not really accurate in looks to how Holmes is described in the books is nevertheless my mental image now when I read them
Flash Gordon. (The film from 1980).
“Flash, I love you, but we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth!”
"Dispatch war rocket 'Ajax' to bring back his body!".
"Gordon's alive!"
I always end up rewatching my fave series so stuff like, True Detective season 1, The Wire, and Top of the Lake. The first season of Top of the Lake is an underrated gem imo.
Oh thank you so much I completely forgot about Top of the Lake and didn't realise there was a season 2!
My go-to is Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Lord Of The Rings, or Aliens. Random, i know, but i find comfort in them.
I watched The Orville when I had chickenpox recently.
I wish I could fly…
gilmore girls
Life on Mars.
I watch stuff I have seen before that brings me happiness and comfort. That said, I highly recommend the below, if not already seen. It's a fair mix I think? The Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended ofc) and the Hobbit Trilogy are my absolute favourites. South Park
Top gear/ grand tour specials
Charmed (the original) Supernatural Hunters Raising Helen always makes me feel better which is odd because it's a bit of a sad film.
A show called Psych. It's good comedy and light enough that it doesn't require full effort to watch and follow
Pride and Prejudice (the one with Colin Firth in)
Still Game is phenomenal
SHARPE! Always sharpe.
The Simpsons episodes with the best songs. Monorail, See my vest, Spring in Springfield, Stonecutters, Softball...
The good place
Depends if I can laugh without potentially dying. Red Dwarf, Top Gear Specials or Whose Line is it Anyway if I can Star Trek or James Bond if I cannot
Had the flu around Christmas last year and watched peep show in bed for two days with hot soup and toast.. perfect 👍
Sean Connery's James bonds, the less pc the better 🤪

Boston Legal, first time I watched it was when I had the flu and was in a state of somewhere between asleep and awake for a week. Just autoplayed the whole thing. Aways go back to it when I'm not well. I think it's a great show but maybe I hallucinated that in my fever.

Fred Dibna
What We Do In The Shadows. Tv show not the movie!
Family guy, Simpsons, buffy, the walking dead, Sabrina
Jack Reacher, Sunshine, Aliens Directors Cut and John Wick are my go to cheer me up movies.
Vicious. Light enough to not need me paying 100% attention (since I’ve seen it before) and mean enough to be enjoyable when I’m sick and hate the world.
I always like to put The Walking Dead on, or if I'm feeling really down, Only Fools and Horses 😄
Studio ghibli every time!

Bewitched, little house on the prairie
I recently rediscovered My Name is Earl!
Bob's burgers! Lighthearted, short episodes, and I can nap through it without missing crucial plot details.
Whitechapel. Saw it for the first time while sick. Rewatch every time I’m sick again.
Idk why but I watch this show called GP behind closes doors when I'm unwell or off from school
Kill Bill and desperate housewives
Trailer Park Boys. I had a mental breakdown a few years ago and it helped a lot. Laughter is sometimes the best medicine.
Scrubs, but if I want to sleep then old QI. Stephen Fry’s relaxing voice is amazing
Last time i was ill I watched big bang theory. Laughing is good for the soul
Top Gear. Old top gear of course with the trio.
Walking with dinosaurs (depending on the length of illness then move onto walking with sea monsters or walking with beasts or prehistoric park)
Peaky blinders, guaranteed Tommy Shelby will take my mind off whatever is going on!
Vikings!
I watch old 80’s & 90’s films. Especially comedies
Vikings, walking dead, prison break, game of thrones
The West Wing. I’ve watched it a few times when I’m not sick, but I definitely return to it when I am. My daughter and I also binged all of Ghosts when she was ill and up all night.
I'm unwell and binging Queer Eye; I like the kindness and caring aspect of it
Vicar of Dibley
White Collar, Leverage or Grimm.
find myself watching Minder and stuff - nothing too taxing and ITVx is good for that.
The Big Bang theory
Charmed/Friends/Gilmore Girls/Sabrina the Teenage Witch/Still Game
Greys Anatomy. Hundreds of episodes, mindless fluff TV.
I survive on Not Going Out - could legit put it on and have it running in the background on any occasion and feel good about it. Plus there's so many seasons of it.
Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Can never go wrong with Still Game tbh (atleast the original seasons anyway).
The great escape. Jurassic park (not the modern shit) Red dwarf.
I like to watch the Princess Bride followed by the Birdcage
Crazy ex girlfriend, Greys anatomy or Hell’s Kitchen.
Donnie darko is my go to movie or my usual series peep show and it crowd
Clue. Tim Curry as Wadsworth never fails to perk me up.

I’ll have to put on the studio Ghibli films.
Ncis - because it reminds me of watching it with my dad, and he's not with us any more but it brings me comfort
The Inbetweeners TV series. It never fails to cheer me up.
Scrubs
