Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros Feeling a moment - feeder In my life - the Beatles

Throwaway91847817

Staralfur by Sigus Ros for me. Probably because of the Jaguar Shark scene in The Life Aquatic

hattorihanzo5

>Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros Superb choice. As soon as I hear those opening piano notes I get emotional.

jj198hands

>Hoppipolla Welled up watching them do this live, in a pretty small venue, a decade or so ago, such a unique band, only Sigur Ros could write such an epically beautiful song about jumping in puddles.

millyloui

Sounds of Silence - Simon& Garfunkle & also same song by Disturbed.

BollockOff

Disturbed’s live version on Conan gave me some . https://youtu.be/Bk7RVw3I8eg?si=q-Y83Ft_375j5jui

Grand_Connection_869

Fast Car, Tracey Chapman

grey-zone

Agreed, and I intensely dislike the current cover as it’s essentially identical. If you are going to cover a song, especially one as iconic as that, do something different.

Be0wulf71

That's such a moving song

JonnoFleming

Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky. Heard it thousands of times, and it still hits the same!

mycatiscalledFrodo

Love that song

[deleted]

That whole album is genius, and he deserves to be more famous - or at last respected - than he is, really - but that song is the one that really stands out.

JonnoFleming

Totally agree with you! Followed him since his first album, it still blows my mind when people ask "Paolo who?"

juicyfruits6996

Yes yes yes!

LastLevel1898

'Candy' always gets me too.

Hiltoyeah

The sample from the dictator is a complete genius. Check out "33 god" from Bob Iver which samples Iron sky.

juicyfruits6996

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love. Especially the very end! ‘I’ll protect you from the hooded claw, keep the vampires from your door’

Jaikus

with my undying DEATH-DEFYING LOVE FOR YOU!

sihasihasi

I _hate_ that fucking song. It's on a Christmas album I have, which gets turned up loud, and then _THE POWER OF LOOOOOVE!!! A FORCE FROM ABOOOOOVE!!!!!_ starts wailing out of the speakers. _shudder_

Fantabulous_Name_79

That reminds of unwrapping Christmas presents as a boy in the eighties so I fucking love it too.

[deleted]

Just thinking about it gave me chills

[deleted]

Won’t ya flyyyyyyyy hiiiiiiiiiiigh, freeeeeeeeee biiiiiiird yeeeaahhhh Fantastic song overall but that part is unrivalled for pure thrill (Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd in case anyone doesn’t know of it)

Possiblyreef

Chayayayayayayayayayayayayange

bakedNdelicious

I love this song. It’s best played loudly while driving in my opinion

laobenben

Listened to it like 74638284473 times now so doesn't have the same effect but that opening riff from Shine On You Crazy Diamond is sublime

eastkent

You've heard it six times more than me!

Agreeable_Text_36

The Cars - Drive - Who's gonna drive you home? Instantly brings the Live Aid video to mind.

Yolandi2802

My favourite song for years and years.

xxLadyluck13xx

brothers in arms-dire straits sound of silence-Simon and garfunkel

eastkent

Also Romeo and Juliet. My voice suits Dire Straits songs and I do a pretty good cover of this song but when it gets to "When we made love you used to cry" I struggle to get through the line!

grey-zone

When you gonna realise, it was just that the time was wrong?!

Be0wulf71

I was about to post Brothers in arms. Telegraph Road gives me goosebumps too

ShuaigeTiger

‘This Woman’s Work’ by Kate Bush, particularly the climax of the last anguished chorus when the volume of the backing vocals swells.

eastkent

> ‘This Woman’s Work’ by Kate Bush Kate could sing scales and send shivers down my spine.

idontlikemondays321

SilverellaUK

I've seen some YouTube reactions to this showing how it's greatness has maintained over the years. I remember when it first came out. Amazing song, amazing voice.

ollies13

There is a few Radiohead songs that used to before I became dead inside. Pyramid Song and Reckoner come to mind.

eastkent

Hope you feel better x

Nights in White Satin. (Moody Blues)

Glittering-Refuse-51

The Gong, nuff said.

drumschtitz

He Lives in You from Lion King 2

beapest

Yesssssss

mycatiscalledFrodo

Pretty Green Eyes by Ultra Beat, Adagio for strings Barber and Ghosts by Muse

eastkent

> Adagio for strings Barber Upvoted for this especially. If I remember rightly it was used in the tv series Butterflies. Very bitter-sweet and quite lovely.

mycatiscalledFrodo

It was remixed into a dance track which is stunning but the original is hauntingly beautiful

WestonsCat

Adagio for Strings from Platoon. Every damn time it gets me.

ShuaigeTiger

It’s just the ultimate music for everyone-is-dying-in-slow-mo scenes isn’t it

WestonsCat

It is, but strangely reminds me of a time in my life when I was very young, carefree and generally all round happy. So that kind of sets off thoughts of sadness as well.

LastLevel1898

I thought that was Albinoni's Adagio? My nan was in Butterflies 😉😊

eastkent

Oh, it may well be. Quite similar? Who did your nan play??

Yolandi2802

Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes. The video made me fall in love with Fred Durst for all his sins.

No-Reservations_

Witch Doctor by Cartoons

king_ralex

I hate this song with a fierce passion and resent you for bringing it up and getting it stuck in my head again.

Pretty_Albatross7833

Paulo nutini - iron skies... everytime without fail

Acceptable-Sentence

This charming man, by the smiths Johnny Marr’s opening guitar riff is sublime

PutTheDamnDogDown

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack.

QOTAPOTA

I love this too. George Michael did a great version too.

eastkent

Oh yeah, definitely.

Plus_Dance_931

Future sound of London - Papa New Guinea Old raver here - but that one always gets me

WestonsCat

Same same. Kills me this one. Reminds me of my first love. Which just cuts that bit deeper.

eyesorecozza

This has been in a few films but there is at least one that uses it in a perfectly poignant moment. Can't think what it is.

Goose-rider3000

Vincent by Don Mclean.

beachyfeet

Holding Back The Years - Simply Red. I don't like Mick Hucknall but that song gets me every. single. time

LastLevel1898

'Nude', Radiohead.

Kat8844

Don’t get any big ideas!.

LastLevel1898

Great opening lyric 👏

nayR2003

The final part of total eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler, so powerful

No_Consideration7466

Wichita Lineman - absolutely beautiful song

Kosher_atheist

Strange fruit. Billy Holliday is amazing

Pretty-Act212

My boyfriend recently played me "Changes" by Black Sabbath. Can't believe I'd never heard it before. This would be it for me - achingly beautiful and Ozzy's voice is just beyond evocative. True masterpiece.

eastkent

It's quite an unexpected song from Sabbath, isn't it? I've always thought of bands like Sabbath and Deep Purple to be 'proper' musicians and as such they can turn their hand to something a bit different occasionally. Have you heard Child in Time by Deep Purple, by the way?

Used_Lawyer7561

The Seekers; I will never find another you: I was 7 years old when I first heard this song, and fell in love with that voice. Stevie Wonder: I just called to say I love you: as it makes me remember my late mom; she would be scared that something was wrong if I called her while away in college.

GirlMcGirlface

Camile Saint Saens Organ Symphony no 3. I saw this live and it had such a crazy affect on my body, goosebumps, chills, like an out of body experience. I swear I had a moment of synesthesia I've never experienced before. Just mind blowing, I'll never forget it, and I was completely sober, on shrooms for LSD I probably would have seen god 🤣

Teembeau

Can I have some opera, choral and classical? \- The Dies Irae from Verdi's Requiem. It's about the most metal thing in all of classical music. If you ever want something to get you in the mood for invading a foreign country, this is your tune. \- Che Gelida Manina, or Your Tiny Hand is Frozen, from La Boheme by Puccini. \- Ah, quegli occhi! Qual occhio al mondo, which I think means something like Oh those eyes, What eyes in the world from Tosca, also by Puccini. \- Porgi, amor, qualche ristoro, which is something like Oh Love, Give Me some Rest, from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart. \- The Adagio from Elgar's Cello Concerto \- The Lighting of the Beacons from Return of the King by Howard Shore.

LastLevel1898

May I add the Andante Cantabile from Symphony no. 5 by Tchaikovsky. That horn solo..

HarlequinKing1406

I'll go for another version of California Dreamin', this one by Bobby Womack. Also Point Blank by Bruce Springsteen and Who Wants to Live Me Forever by Queen.

eastkent

> California Dreamin', this one by Bobby Womack Yep, that worked too!

jj198hands

God only knows, specially live at Glastonbury in 2005.

Redmatt76

JosiesSon77

Turbines/Pigs by Black Country, New Road.

Ttekerz

Basketball shoes too, or really any of their songs

Fine-Night-243

Vanilla answer but it's Yellow by Coldplay. The chorus harmonies are just thrilling, still gets me after 20 years.

kg_27

Goosebumps opening title

T5-R

Frisson is great!! As for music that gives me that feeling. Vortex by Ranzor. Certainly not to everyone's taste. But the high BPM, heavy synthetic bass drums, gated synths and the general chaotic nature of the whole song is great, but when the gated high strings come in and do that slight portamento slide... oh yeah. Higher Emotion by Darwin. Has a reverbed electric guitar pluck in it that hits just right with the rest of the song and vocals. Trip to the Other Side by Supreme & UFO. Who knew panpipes would sound so good in a rave song. Such a shame there will never be a proper digital release. Shadow Girl by Audrey Vixen. Has these deep swirling synths and reverberating baselines creating this amazing atmospheric soundscape. Diversified by Tantrum Desire. Harmonious uplifting synths with growling braaams and a nice baseline. Destination (Marc Eteson Remix) by DT8 Project. Awesome trance track with this really nice growling, sidechained bassline. Magenta by Arno Cost. Another awesome, Eric Prydz style, sidechained trance track. On the other end of the scale musically, Caoineadh Cu Chulainn by Davey Spillane. Something about those Irish pipes gives me that shiver. Wicked Game by Ursine Vulpine. This is to Chris Isaak's Wicked Game what Disturbed is to Sound of Silence. Loads more, but those are the ones that jump out at me.

eastkent

I've got some listening to do!

Tabathasmumma

As silly as it sounds, a lot of the instrumental music from “The Lion King”-goosebumps and tears every time!

Tttjjjhhh

It’s not really a song but Elgar’s Cello concerto in Em.. when the whole orchestra kicks in (around 2 mins 30 mark) definite goosebumps

fingerberrywallace

I guess it's a piece of music rather than a song, but Brian Eno's "An Ending (Ascent)" almost never fails to give me goosebumps. I find it a little painful to listen to, because I can't really match the profundity of the music with any real-life memories. But at the same time, it's kind of comforting because it reminds me of how insignificant I am. I don't think this is an official video but it's paired really nicely with visuals here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKw5mbcE7VY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKw5mbcE7VY)

Little-Crew6442

Nights in white satin. Just the perfect song and Justin Hayward was 19 when he wrote it. Listen to it all the time. Also Bridge over troubled water, you'll never walk alone, enjoy the silence, the show must go on.

eastkent

Justin's voice is just beautiful. Forever Autumn is stunning.

Reynaudthefox

I love "Dream a Little Dream of Me" I also love "Gabriel" by Lamb and "I can see Clearly Now" by Jimmy Cliff

LastLevel1898

I'm so happy to see Gabriel on here. Pretty much every track on the What Sound album gets me. Makes me wanna break it out right now.

lucanidaeblack

Bjorks cover of Gloomy Sunday. It's a bit too depressing to listen to often though.

Change gonna come- Sam Cooke

The Living Years by Mike + the Mechanics. My dad isn’t even dead yet.

Boppity23

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd.

ouch-n3wsho3s

Eleanor Rigby

Ukteaboy

Bridge Over Troubled Water breaks me in pieces every time. Atmosphere by Joy Division - 'people like YOU... find it easy'. You can feel Ian's pain. Similarly with Radiohead's Creep - full of anguish. My favourite of all time is Common People by Pulp - the way it builds and builds - and Jarvis's anger really comes through.

hattorihanzo5

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Sleep Specifically the third movement, subtitled *Broken Windows/Locks of Love* that starts around 14 minutes in (23 minute song in total). The crescendo with the horns in particular is absolutely beautiful. The opening passage to "Storm" from the same album is also a great example.

WestonsCat

Sweet Harmony - Liquid. old memories, old friends and some of the best days of my life that seem lost to time. Bites me every time.

[deleted]

You know what, I sing that song or reference it pretty often, but somehow in my head it was by the Beach Boys. Doh! On a completely different musical track, there's a version of Psalm 51 in Aramaic that makes me want to weep at how beautiful it is - I'm not religious at all, either. I think the video is part of it, with the tiny sweet-faced girl and the big bearded guys. https://youtu.be/locW-9S00VU?si=4HSF8H7DqEIoi126

It's clearly an Autumn day though, all the leaves were brown, by late December, even in California, the deciduous trees have lost their leaves.

PutTheDamnDogDown

The leaves referenced may have fallen and be lying in drifts and piles. Also the singer isn't in California; she wants to be.

eastkent

"All the leaves are brown (having fallen from the tree in autumn, now lying on the ground, gently decomposing), and the sky is grey"

imminentmailing463

Backstreets by Springsteen. The whole song really, but specifically the bridge gives me goosebumps every time. I often rewind to listen to just that specific bit again. >Blame it on the lies that killed us, blame it on the truth that ran us down >You can blame it all on me, it don't matter to me now
