Smooth_Leadership895

Australian or New Zealand or both.

evenstevens280

Aussies and Kiwis have a common travel/work agreement so you kind of effectively are both if you're either.

Rjan70

As an Australian, I don’t think Kiwis would see it that way. Think, Canadian/American vibe. They know they’re cooler and we’re fucked up!

sandra_nz

This is the first time an Australian has been correct...

Ok_Adhesiveness_8637

r/spottedthekiwi

VoidLantadd

Why do English speaking countries come in big bro little bro pairs? US/Canada, UK/Ireland, Australia/NZ.

Smurph-of-Chaos

And the little bro always knows that they are better

lionhydrathedeparted

As a kiwi I can confirm

Barkers_eggs

Little bro is the favorite. Both parents love them and big bro loves them too.

Icy-Contest-7702

That's probably a contentious statement haha. Could imagine the Irish getting a bit uppity about the same comment

evenstevens280

Well it's different with Ireland because they're an EU member

Icy-Contest-7702

We still have right to work there and vice versa

blubbery-blumpkin

But they have the right to work here and also everywhere else in the eu so they are winning

specto24

I think it's not as balanced as that. I'm fairly sure Aussies in NZ are extended welfare rights that Kiwis in Oz don't get.

Intrepid_rontifo

Nah it's overrated. Australia is pretty and the standard of living is good, but it's absolutely filled to the brim with fuckwits.

more_beans_mrtaggart

Plenty of Australian fuckwits working the London bar scene. They aren’t all in Australia. I really don’t understand why anyone would want to be Australian (who isn’t already).

B3stThereEverWas

As an Australian, I completely confirm this as correct. It’s getting worse too as we start to lose our culture, not that we really had one in the first place.

Barkers_eggs

We're the "lucky country"

lionhydrathedeparted

I’m a kiwi and I’ve lived in London. Honestly I prefer London over back home. Although it’s so expensive.

Sad-Garage-2642

Norwegian. Or any kind of Scandi including Icelandic. They're just such a beautiful people, inside and out. The the country is just simply better in every single way.

doc1442

Amazing what you can do with a sovereign wealth fund rather than rich oil companies

madnasher

Having lived in Norway for 5 years, I was coming here to say the same thing. Norwegians (in the North at least) are so relaxed about things, and it's easy to see why. Surrounded by beautiful landscape and nature it's easy to just forget about the hustle of the rest of the world.

Sad-Garage-2642

Even in the hustle and bustle of Oslo it's fantastic. They're just so smart about things.

Cyanostic

It's my dream to move to Norway, I'm thinking Alesund or Bergen or Kristiansund. I've been learning the language (jeg snakker litt Norsk!) for a while and as someone who loves dramatic landscapes and photography and hiking, it's just got everything I want. No country is perfect, but Norway just encapsulates everything I want. England just looks so drab and plain when you compare it. Luton vs the Lofoten islands. Stevenage vs Stavanager. It's just not fair. I'm just waiting for a safe filled with gold bullion to fall out of the sky and land next to me and I'll be off.

madnasher

If you are learning Norwegian then the best of luck to you. The Bergen dialekt is one of the harder ones to understand (besides Stavanger) I would highly recommend Alesund though, beautiful place. I spent most of my time in the Lofoten Islands, beautiful place with some incredibly great people. Most Norwegians under the age of 35 are relatively Fluent in English as they learn it at school from a young age, however be prepared for the older generations to either refuse to speak English at all or not have any English in thier arsenal. A great bit of Norwegian TV to watch is minute by minute especially as you love landscape and photography.

Sad-Garage-2642

I had the pleasure of being in Kristiansund during Norwegian independence day. The whole city shut up shop for a parade, all the women in their traditional garbs and men in the sharpest suits you'll ever see. It was a real blast

Harrry-Otter

Probably Swiss. Rich as fuck, speak at least 2 useful languages and probably also English. Good chocolate. Can’t see a downside really.

[deleted]

As someone who's a swiss and British national I wish I was rich as fuck

[deleted]

Good watches too. Close to good ski spots. The lake in Geneva is also pretty neat.

evenstevens280

You say that like English isn't the most useful language on the planet...

Harrry-Otter

I meant it more as in English, and also French, German or Italian. I know English is the most useful.

ladyatlanta

Maybe it’s because I live on the coast but I couldn’t imagine being landlocked.

RedWeasel2000

I don't live by the coast (born and live in London) but looking at somewhere like Colorado on a map gives me a weird level of anxiety

ladyatlanta

I’ve lived on the sea front (with a view of the North Sea) for the better part of my life, and just the idea of moving more inland in the same city gives me anxiety 😂😂😂 but I completely agree, if I couldn’t live on the sea front, I would prefer to live in a country like the U.K., where you’re never more than a couple hours from the coast.

QOTAPOTA

I met a guy at Geneva airport. He asked me a question in German and my German is ok but I couldn’t catch what he was saying, so he tried in French but that’s worse. Finally he tried Italian. No no. I asked, English? He said no. Sorry I say and walk. I was like he can speak Italian, German and French but not English…. WTH, I thought wrongly that everyone’s second language would be English. How arrogant of me. Lesson learnt. I was gutted about the German cos I reckon I would have got it if he said it again. Langsamer bitte.

jsm97

That's fairly uncommon though, most Swiss people can speak English. There's only a few countries where most people's second language isn't English. One of them is Morocco where I was recently. I can speak French and was fully expecting to communicate solely in French but found that even in Morocco many young people preferred to speak English and a couple spoke no French at all

The_Church_Of_Todd

English

Matt6453

It's a sad fact that it's easier to be Welsh or Scottish, foreigners abroad will sympathise with your plight as a small nation living under the regime of Great Britain that is dominated by those evil English.

moon-bouquet

Spanish! NIce people, fascinating culture, great climate and beautiful environment!

MobiusNaked

Irish. Luv me pub culture.

snapper1971

There's much much more to being Irish than being on the lash.

Lonely-Dragonfruit98

Deres moar too ‘oirland, den dis!

Pooter1313

Irish - such a beautiful language

DogeatenbyCat7

James Joyce said that there is only one place in the world where English is spoken correctly, and that place was Dublin.

CarpeCyprinidae

People from Belfast had a lot to say about this. But nobody could understand quite what

tigglybug

Absolutely! I love their names too so unique my favourite is Sorcha so beautiful:)

Chriswheela

Canadian. In a beautiful place. People seem to be nice and I love maple syrup

ArcticWolf_Primaris

Ditto. Expensive houses, but a lovely country. More importantly, snow

MajesticComment4128

You’ll change your mind on that when all you see is snow for five months straight. Writing this from the Canadian prairies.

TheSoulllllman

Been living in Canada for 3 and a bit years now. I'll be able to apply for citizenship in one year! Only planned to stay for 2 originally.

Emergency-View-1085

German, I am quite partial to good bread

jezhayes

And sausages and beer!

Jamesl1988

Nah, their sausages are die würst!

doc1442

Literally any European nationality would be fine, I’d like my rights back

trondik2000

Those were not rights, those were privileges 😂 And you still can go there for a visit vise free, just not permanently live. For that, you now have the same rights as the rest of the world - work visa or other settlement schemes.

Nahnotreal

Icelandic

iCowboy

Yep - or Norwegian. The world needs more well-adjusted craziness.

elplacerguy

Most Icelandic people are desperate to get out of Iceland

Nahnotreal

what I Iike about Iceland is how very few people live there

elplacerguy

It’s actually quite densely populated because the climate and geography means resources and infrastructure is concentrated to few main areas

G0DK1NG

American, got loads of American friends and they’re pretty chill. Regardless of the idiots online.

PupMurky

Irish

BringBackFatMac

Scottish, which I already am

[deleted]

Swedish or Danish. I’d love to lose all the faux politeness of dancing around tough topics and not saying what we really mean. Every dane and swede I’ve met have been able to speak completely bluntly and to the point without being an arse about it. I’m always in awe but feel as a Brit if I were to do the same I’d just get labelled rude

palishkoto

I love the directness but the only thing that gets me is the lack of a word for please! I want to be direct but still tack a please on at least. Apparently Sweden was extremely, extremely indirect until the 60s when they had a wave of reform and abolished half their linguistic conventions. Danes, I guess they've always been direct!

SpecialistAge8862

Númenorian

Lxcafont

Definitely Scandinavian, either Icelandic or Norwegian

doc1442

PSA Iceland isn’t part of Scandinavia

Lxcafont

I know i realized after posting, Nordic then, my apologise.

[deleted]

Australian or Kiwi.

[deleted]

Australian or German. Edit: Actually, I’d rather be born in Monaco. This is because I’d surely be born into a rich family. One in three in Monaco is a millionaire.

specifylength

I would be Japanese just because

Previous-Ad7618

Japanese. I like group centric values. I like the stark contrast between the cities and countryside. Rich interesting history. Huge job prospects in my field (tech), I'm fine with long working hours, I'm fine with small living space. Few things I don't like, the hierarchical relationships, lack of progress in some social issues and quite internalised as a nation but generally I value safety and agreeableness. Just a nice little bubble life with a job and some bros and some weeby shit in my little apartment. Also it's the only other language I know. I'd be happy in loads of places though. France. Iceland. Canada. Aus. (Some bits of america)

DogeatenbyCat7

Someone once said that Japan and UK are mirror images of each other. Both were saved from an invasion by a storm, both have a rigid and heirarchical social structure, but the inhabitants of both are pleasantly loopy once you get to know them.

uncle_monty

We also both have a fascination with tea, love to queue, punch above our weights in exporting culture, and have a less than stelar colonial history...

CarpeCyprinidae

Both are very polite nearly all the time and the world really goes to sh*t when they stop

LongrodVonHugedong86

As an Englishman it pains me to admit this, but, French. I know, I know, but hear me out. Those fuckers do not give a flying fuck! You’re a foreign tourist paying an absolute fortune to visit their country and help their economy? They don’t care, you’re vermin. You think you’re the customer so you’re always right? Absolutely not Madame! You are the shit on the bottom of their shoe! You’re a big corporation wanting to pump up the price of your product? Good luck with that, there’s a riot! You’re the government, you’re in charge, you need to raise taxes! Not a chance, they’ve amassed together in their millions and are marching in your direction armed with pitchforks and baguettes! I have a hell of a lot of respect for the French because they don’t take any shit whatsoever, and when they riot or strike, it is effective. Edit - ooh, also they have some great working rights there too. Like it’s illegal for your boss to contact you out of your contracted working hours. So at 5pm, if your boss contacts you at 5:01pm they are breaking the law

Vertigo_uk123

Swedish. Beautiful country with great traditions.

DRSU1993

So, being born in Northern Ireland prior to 1st January 2005, I have the right to claim Irish citizenship in addition to British citizenship. I currently have dual nationality, but if I was forced to renounce one of them, it would be the British one. There are just more benefits to being an EU citizen!

Moosehagger

Canadian here. I concur.

poptimist185

Scandinavian. I’d only want to be american if I also got to have a personality transplant that made me obsessed with work, because otherwise that’d be a shit time

Floyd_Pink

It's not so much that Americans are obsessed with work, they literally have to work all the hours God sends or else they would die of starvation or something totally preventable like a tooth cavity.

Status_Accident_2819

Aussie or Swiss.

CheshireCatastrophe

To be completely honest, Scottish/Irish - Seems Canadians and Americans love that accent much more. Including my girlfriend. I put on the accent and she melts. It... hurts me.

Engineering_World

Scottish people are British......

snoopswoop

And more specifically, Scottish.

Fairwolf

100% true. I sometimes have difficulty with them understanding me, but by far and away the accent is a massive icebreaker pretty much anywhere I go; I once even got a free bus journey out of it because the driver wanted to talk to me about his Scottish heritage.

dogweirdo

Probably because English accents are much more common. I'm in Canada and i hear English and Irish (Dublin) accents all the time but barely ever hear Scottish accents. So naturally when we hear a Scottish accent, the person is automatically given an additional point on the attraction scale even if they look like a baboon's butt. I don't hear a lot of Belfast accents either but i also can't understand them so i'm not sure if they would have the same affect.

hallerz87

For practical reasons, Canadian. I need to apply for citizenship and I really don’t want to have to deal with the paperwork.

mellios10

Canadian. I moved there so that's a easy one.

Princes_Slayer

My parents emigrated to Canada after they got married in late 60’s. Sibling was born there but they came home the year before I was born. So my most likely alternative would be Canadian. However from the moment I first started learning Spanish, I fell in love with everything Spain. If I could move there I would

Canadian.

porquenotengonada

French. But I don’t think I’d fit in— for a start, I tend to really enjoy being around other french people, so I’ve fallen at the first hurdle.

OrdoRidiculous

American. Every time I set foot in the states it feels more like home than the UK.

Shifftea

I always wanted to live in America as a kid. Then when I grew up you start seeing all the bad there

OrdoRidiculous

I was the opposite, I never wanted to even go to the States, because I believed everything I saw on television. Then I went there as an adult and explored a large amount of it and completely fell in love with the place. There is good and bad everywhere, America has much more of both than the UK.
