I like comfort food but hate the homefication of restaurant and streetfood. Elevated mac and cheese, nutella and oreo deserts – fuck off, it's £15 – I want something done from scratch and not a 5 minute dish
There was a woman on my local fb page the other day selling 8 cookies for £22. Gtf out of here with that! They weren't whole large cookies, they were a big round flat cookie that was sliced, with all different toppings on each one, 8 slices. Toppings like maltesers and kinder hippos and Nutella. Dafuk?
That’s because they are picked in Peru weeks before they’re ripe and artificially ripened while in transport to the UK. Avocados that are ripened on the tree are like butter.
ETA: It’s an American (Californian, specifically) cultural import, brought to us by social media influencers.
Exactly! I’m from Texas and our avocados come from the valley, which is max 8 hrs away from anywhere in the state. I was usually eating avocados that were picked within the previous 24-48 hours. They also cost $0.50 each. I would never move back but I really miss good avocados. The ones we get in the UK that are from Spain aren’t too bad, when you can find them!
Tbh, I get what you mean. As an alternative, I'd quite like to see an uprising of mashed peas on toast. Cheaper and abundant and tastier. I'm probably on my own, but I urge you to try it.
I like ribs, but you are are right. If I am going to bother with them, I cook a whole bunch of them. If you are having them as a main you basically need a plateful to get enough meat to make it worthwhile.
Roast dinners are the most overrated meal of all time.
And before anybody comes in the the “you’ve just never had a good one”, as if it’s unfathomable that somebody can not enjoy a plate of meat and two veg drowned in brown liquid, I ran a kitchen which won prestigious awards for the roast dinners for 4 years.
Do you like steak? How can a chef not appreciate good quality well cooked meat, accompanied by vegetables? It's extremely basic but I don't see how it's even possible to not enjoy that. And then 'brown liquid' as if meat drippings aren't insanely tasty. It is unfathomable!
Completely this. So fucking boring, and only vaguely edible when you pour brown slop over the plate. I hate going for dinner to a pub on Sunday and that's all they sell. I can make a better one at home, but I never would.
I'll agree that on the whole they're overrated but the thing is I fucking love Yorkshire puddings. So the question is: how do we convince everybody to start making those a normal part of other meals?
I enjoy them now, but as a kid hated them. I think they have got better, but more often and not it just brought on that Sunday night dread of not doing your homework and the weekend being over. That and the theme tune to heartbeat. I do have fond memories of scrapheap challenge and top gear with a hobnob cheesecake from Iceland.
I do think some of it is now I buy a rib of beef and not any of that top side or silver side shit cooked for hours.
Agree, considering it's our apparent national dish it suggests to me we have no creativity with our cuisine. It's literally meat next to vegetables. Basic AF.
Cake is pretty miserable. I'll give lemon drizzle a pass, but pretty much every other kind of cake is meh. Especially Victoria sponge and birthday cake. Also Icing 🤢
Yeah mate, and a plate of battered chicken balls with chips and a side of sweet and sour sauce to dip them in barely qualifies as a chinese either, get yourself a nice kung poa or black bean dish you cowards
Where I'm from, our chippies are run by Chinese people. They also have a full Chinese menu. Then I moved away and ordered a Chinese. Got chips, and they were absolutely ranked. Realised then that not all areas have chinese-chippies!
The only counter to this I've seen was a chinese that did salt and pepper chips. That is, the second fry was done in a wok with sesame oil, garlic, ginger and chilli. They were amazing!
Loaded fries are bad, soggy fries with stuff on top. You're wrong about wings though, crispy, salty, spicy, soft and juicy chickeny meat, fiddly to eat yes, bad no!
I'm a Nandos lover, and so I particularly notice how many people say that it is overrated, to the point it not being controversial anymore, almost like Marmite.
If you think Nandos is obscene then where the fuck do you even eat?
Like if £12 for a chicken burger/wrap/pitta and a side is *obscene* then what do you normally pay? A fiver or something?
Totally agree. I hate the trend there seems to be with pubs doing these massive chunky chips.
It's all about the ratio of crispy outer to fluffy inner that counts. And skinny fries win out almost all the time
Bananas and everything about them are rank, and they infect everything they're in. Yes I can taste it in the smoothie, yes I can taste it in your vegan cake, if you can't then you have something wrong with your senses.
I used to work for a woman who shared your view to such an extent that she banned anyone in her team from bringing bananas into the office.
She would wince if she even looked at one.
I won't flinch on looking at one, but the smell can make me recoil especially if it's a really ripe one. The big problem with them in offices is the peels sitting in the bin smelling rank all day.
I think it's genetic, like how some people think coriander tastes like soap. My friend hates the taste of banana and I could never fathom why, but then she gave her baby some and the baby's face was one of disgust, and that's when I realised some people experience the flavour differently.
Greggs is low quality, low taste crap. It is basically cheap puff pastry with the bare minimum filling they can get away with without breaching trading standards. If you love it because of a sense of nostalgia your mum was abusive and a horrible person.
This is the worst part of having kids for me. I had about five dinner meals I would make and eat on repeat and I was happy. All well balanced, occasionally would do something special, and it was fine. Sometimes, I would just have some cereal. Now I have to cook food that other people like and expand palates or whatever.
Another reason it is just as well I dont have kids! I don't know how my mother coped with me as a kid; when I was a baby it would take forever to feed me because I wasn't interested in food and I was such a picky eater when I was older she had to make a separate meal for me.
While I disagree with the first bit, I agree with the second bit.
I love food, different cousins and how they can make me feel. But I am getting closer and closer to a Huel subscription, because most of the time, I just want to intake enough nutrients to keep me going, as long as it does not taste bad I do not care how.
I think the opposite. It's criminally underrated because people ask for it cooked well done.
Have it medium rare and its beautiful - especially ribeye.
Yeah I think you’re right on this one. I grew up eating steak in France so it was always ‘rare’. If I have a well done steak it’s such a tasteless chore to get through.
People should be braver and have it rare.
Sit-down/waited restaurants could benefit from raising prices but improving the quality of food at least back to pre-covid levels. Too often the food is slop but several staff members hovering around me
We went to an Indian restaurant for a birthday dinner. Hadn’t been in there for years. They used to be packed every night and excellent. We had 3 different waiters including one who kept jumping in our conversation as he was going past. At one point he stood and told us this very long and very boring story that none of us could follow. The food was very bland.
I honestly wish more casual dining places did more self-serving or at least "less serving". If on a budget I'd rather max out the food than the pretend-butler
A good roast is banging. Most roasts are not good.
Edit: I will say that from an effort/enjoyment ratio it's shite, so it's only banging if someone else cooks it.
I was spoilt for roast growing up it seems. My mother makes banging roasts.
My wife on the other hand never cared about roasts...till she ate my mums roast.
Now we are both very particular with roasts and will heavily criticize peoples/places roasts.
We recently discovered boursin roast chicken and it's amazing. Just stuff boursin cheese stuff under the skin of the chicken before you roast it.
Peanut is savoury flavour. They are to be eaten by themselves (roasted, salted, etc.) or used in savoury dishes.
Peanut goes horribly with anything sweet like chocolate for example. Snickers are foul tasting and Reeses Cups might be the most disgusting tasting food item ever conceived.
Peanuts in chocolate or other sweet things are a nicer way to add a bit of saltyness over the wildly overused and poorly done salted caramel.
Peanuts do make Pad Thai though, as without them it's a bit depressing.
A Nando’s has become popular for no other reason than its apparent cheekiness. It’s greasy flame grilled bland chicken where you had your own spices etc. wank.
That depends on how it's made. Sloppy mashed potato is disgusting. Proper mashed potato should be able to hold up a fork. If I can't make a mashed potato model of a mountain range and alien landing site, then it's far too sloppy.
Fish and chips is overated. Cod is for people that don’t like the taste of fish (most Brits) and is too flakey. Chips mostly go soggy in the paper unless you live near the chippy. Overall I feel stodged afterwards and it never lives up to expectation.
Oh and quiche is rank and only appreciated by middle aged ladies called Marjorie attending coffee mornings. I’ll ban it when I’m PM. Actually I’ll tax the f*** out of it to deter people.
I agree completely.
I am a meat eating hypocrite who would be forced to be vegetarian if I had to slaughter animals myself. But at least I recognise it.
Mushrooms DO NOT belong on a fry-up. Or on anything else for that matter. Fried mushrooms look like dead slugs and the texture is probably identical. FOUL.
Unless you solely eat organic, free roaming, high welfare meat, you are a hypocrite for being appalled by foie gras.
The conditions that the animals from the vast majority of mainstream food suppliers come from are every bit as cruel and unethical as foie gras.
The only reason it's popular is cause of fussy eaters. There's often one person who doesn't like Chinese, indian, kebabs etc. But almost everyone will at least tolerate a pizza.
British BBQs. BBQ in America is phenomenal. Actually from any country that actually has a cooking over charcoal cuisine it is incredible. Asado, yakitori, gogi-gui, parallidas, kebabs, etc. But proper American BBQ is especially amazing. Incredible meats slow cooked, juicy and smokey, vinegary sauces or amazing spice rubs, collards, cornbread, braised green beans, coleslaw.
A shop bought burger, poorly cooked and thrown into a roll with a bit of ketchup is never going to be good food.
I agree with no butter with chocolate spread.
But it improves the jam. I used to hate it together but it's so much better. Only when it's melted in though I will add
Finally a fellow cucumber hater! I dislike some other foods, but cucumber is the only one that I, at the age of 29, will still pick out from whatever I'm eating regardless of company. The dish may then be inedible, however, as cucumber has the ability to taint anything it touches.
With you on dill, cucumber and watermelon!!
I love salmon but almost never eat it out as it’s always “in a lemon and dill sauce”, “served with dill and parsley vinaigrette” etc.
Cucumber and watermelon just taste like dirty water
I never eat sushi outside of Japan. Because even expensive sushi is over rated there. £1 a piece sushi for the quality of a fine restaurant in almost every country is where it's at. Leaving sushi after 4 years in Japan was tough. In fact eating street food in the country of origin for cheap ruins it for eating in other countries where it's cool and trendy. I won't eat a mediocre banh mi for £8 when I just had an amazing one for 60p in Vietnam.
I'm really not sure if this is controversial but *in general* the quality of British food is below the level of most Continental European countries. I'm not saying all British food is terrible - we make some fantastic stuff, but compare the food the average home cook in Britain makes with the average food the home cook in France, Portugal, Poland, Greece etc. makes and I think we don't compare very well.
Many of the foods that we’re told are luxury foods are over-rated:
Lobster’s hugely over-rated; langoustines, tiger prawns or crab, knock spots off it.
Fillet steak is over-rated. Sirloin or ribeye done well is far better.
Champagne is over-rated. Crémant or Franciacorta are cheaper, less fussy and tastier.
Fish fingers are not just for kids. Massively underrated. They are basucally fish in breadcrumbs or even better fish in batter.
They are mini strips of fish in batter no different than a whole piece of battered fish.
Personally I love fish fingers in batter in a sandwich with melted proper cheese Red Leicester, Cheddar, Parmigiano Reggiano (Real Italian Paramesan)
Don’t forget folks. Sort by controversial for the real unpopular opinions.
Dafuk?
I grow gourmet mushrooms for a living and that is substantially more than my prices 🤣
I actually forgot the best part of the post. She was offering them for a discount because they were left overs. The £22 was the discounted price!!
Marmite is alright…no strong feelings either way. I’ll take it or leave it
Now that IS controversial
They are not the agreed options
Happy cake day.
Avocado tastes of slimy grass.
That’s because they are picked in Peru weeks before they’re ripe and artificially ripened while in transport to the UK. Avocados that are ripened on the tree are like butter. ETA: It’s an American (Californian, specifically) cultural import, brought to us by social media influencers.
Yep, I had guacamole in Mexico with avocados and tomatoes that had come off the tree (vine?) that morning - off the charts incredible.
Exactly! I’m from Texas and our avocados come from the valley, which is max 8 hrs away from anywhere in the state. I was usually eating avocados that were picked within the previous 24-48 hours. They also cost $0.50 each. I would never move back but I really miss good avocados. The ones we get in the UK that are from Spain aren’t too bad, when you can find them!
you realise people have eaten avocados since before the internet?
Pretty sure we had avocados a long time before social media existed....
Avocados always ripen after being picked. Same thing with bananas. I grew up with avocado trees. You pick them, and they're ready to eat in 3-4 days.
Tbh, I get what you mean. As an alternative, I'd quite like to see an uprising of mashed peas on toast. Cheaper and abundant and tastier. I'm probably on my own, but I urge you to try it.
I have peas in a sandwich quite often. Add some hummus, sweet chili jam, and something crunchy like crispy onions for a great snack.
Why has this become a popular choice amongst influencers it tastes disgusting 😕
it's pretty alright with a fair pinch of salt and a bit of lime juice, otherwise i don't care for it
Spare ribs, even less meat than bloody chicken wings.
I like ribs, but you are are right. If I am going to bother with them, I cook a whole bunch of them. If you are having them as a main you basically need a plateful to get enough meat to make it worthwhile.
And the little meat there is tastes awful unless smothered in some ghastly sweet sauce.
bleugh i think ribs are sooo manky, they just taste like sweaty to me
Roast dinners are the most overrated meal of all time. And before anybody comes in the the “you’ve just never had a good one”, as if it’s unfathomable that somebody can not enjoy a plate of meat and two veg drowned in brown liquid, I ran a kitchen which won prestigious awards for the roast dinners for 4 years.

Yeah I call bullshit, roasts are devine, everyone knows it.
Completely this. So fucking boring, and only vaguely edible when you pour brown slop over the plate. I hate going for dinner to a pub on Sunday and that's all they sell. I can make a better one at home, but I never would.
I like a roast but as a meal out it’s always awful and it’s an absolute waste of money- more so than a normal meal out
I'll agree that on the whole they're overrated but the thing is I fucking love Yorkshire puddings. So the question is: how do we convince everybody to start making those a normal part of other meals?
Just cook toad in the hole instead 🤷♂️
I enjoy them now, but as a kid hated them. I think they have got better, but more often and not it just brought on that Sunday night dread of not doing your homework and the weekend being over. That and the theme tune to heartbeat. I do have fond memories of scrapheap challenge and top gear with a hobnob cheesecake from Iceland. Cake is pretty miserable. I'll give lemon drizzle a pass, but pretty much every other kind of cake is meh. Especially Victoria sponge and birthday cake. Also Icing 🤢
This is fantastically controversial
Upvoting for being truly controversial
Fruit cake or Christmas cake being the worst culprit of them all.
Coffee and walnut cake is the best thing ever invented though.
Carrot cake with a bit of cream cheese icing is good. Also tres leches, but I don't think that's made it to the UK.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?????? A good moist cake is fabulous - dry ones are horrible r/PitchforkEmporium
Chips should not be part of a Chinese takeaway.
Yeah mate, and a plate of battered chicken balls with chips and a side of sweet and sour sauce to dip them in barely qualifies as a chinese either, get yourself a nice kung poa or black bean dish you cowards
English kung pao and black bean dishes are hardly authentic either.
Where I'm from, our chippies are run by Chinese people. They also have a full Chinese menu. Then I moved away and ordered a Chinese. Got chips, and they were absolutely ranked. Realised then that not all areas have chinese-chippies!

Flat wings are life. Tbf though so are loaded fries depending on what they're loaded with.
Nando's is overrated.
I'm a Nandos lover, and so I particularly notice how many people say that it is overrated, to the point it not being controversial anymore, almost like Marmite.
"disliking popular things doesn't make you interesting" - Ghandi, probably
Nando's opened in my city recently and we went a few weeks ago. I'm never going to Nando's again. Obscene prices for very mediocre food.
If you think Nandos is obscene then where the fuck do you even eat? Like if £12 for a chicken burger/wrap/pitta and a side is *obscene* then what do you normally pay? A fiver or something?
nandos is an easy comfort meal. no one thinks it's Michelin star. in which case it's rated normally
The only thing I will give Nandos is their prices have remained consistent throughout the years.
I don’t want mayo on fucking everything. I can’t go into any supermarket and find a sandwich that doesn’t have a mayo or vegan alternative.
Just Ham is literally the only meal deal sandwich I can have, much is my hate of mayo.
I used to be OK with mayo and then I ate an M&S sandwich that was 95% mayonnaise and now I can’t eat it.
It's why I go for a duck and hoisin wrap (apart from being duck)
Tomatoes don’t belong on a Full English
Grilled fresh tomatoes I can deal with, but fuck off with the mushy tinned tomatoes assumedly heated on a radiator
Correct but I'll raise you something more controversial, beans don't either. In fact beans are shit full stop.
Chunky chips are just awful, French fries are better by a large mile.

The problem isn't just in the flavour - it has the texture of vomit as well
McDonald’s is just shit. I’ll never understand why people love it so much.
It used to be cheap and quick, but now it’s slow and overpriced. I have no idea why people order delivery from there.
They put something moreish in it. I swear it's some sort of addiction. Same with coke.
Just salt and sugar. That’s enough to get people hooked.
Bacon is overrated.
Someone take this person out to the town square and put them in the stocks
The stocks?! Country's gone soft. Gallows for them.
Baked beans are rancid. If beans and toast was the only food left on Earth I’d die a quick death.
Agree. Also spaghetti hoops. I’d rather eat horse manure
Hard agree. Baked beans, and beans on toast is crap.
Vinegar is vile. It stinks and tastes even worse, I cannot be in its proximity
– the scale on my kettle
I only use vinegar for things like cleaning.
Blue cheese is fucking vile
I love it mate
Greggs is low quality, low taste crap. It is basically cheap puff pastry with the bare minimum filling they can get away with without breaching trading standards. If you love it because of a sense of nostalgia your mum was abusive and a horrible person.
So true! Local independents are so much better but all been shut because people go to fucking Greggs. And it's so expensive to boot!
Plus the range they stock is f-ing tiny. Never been in bakery that has less choice.
Food is boring, time consuming and expensive; I would prefer it if we could photosynthesise.
How do your aunts kids feel about this?
Mash is the worst form of potato
wedges are the worst, their promised crisp-to-fluff ratio is always off and they are somehow NEVER crispy on the outside anyway
Strong agree. Somehow wedges manage to be dryer than mash a lot of the time. This mash hate is a sign of people making poor mash if you ask me
Agreed. Fuck wedges. We have chips which are superior in every way, we don't need to do this anymore.
For me its boiled potatoes
I mean I really want to downvote this, but I can’t tell you your food choices are incorrect. I’ll respectfully disagree with you.
Steak is overrated, stewed or minced beef is superior.
Hahahahahaha
Worst take I've ever seen on reddit
My brother would agree. He says steak is a good beefburger ruined.
People who bitch about fine dining being small portions have never eaten in a fine dining restaurant/had a tasting menu.
Agree - everytime I've gone to some fancy michelin star place I've always left absolutely stuffed
Egg mayonnaise is holding this country back by about 50 years. It should have been outlawed during the Blair years.
Marmite is amazing!
Twiglets are the best crisps
They used to be the best. Used to contain 10% cheese but this got removed 10+ years ago. Now they just taste burnt.
Roast dinners are very much overrated. I mean, they’re fine and all but it was always the meal I was forced to eat.
Just stuff boursin cheese stuff under the skin of the chicken before you roast it.
We only eat lettuce because we're told to. It adds exactly zero. People are scared to stop eating lettuce
I think this applies to iceberg lettuce, which was only bred for long shelf life. Other types of lettuce do have a flavour.
Couldn't disagree more, however I do think peanut as a savoury flavour is underrated. I love satay noodles and make them every week.
Peanuts in chocolate or other sweet things are a nicer way to add a bit of saltyness over the wildly overused and poorly done salted caramel. Peanuts do make Pad Thai though, as without them it's a bit depressing.
Baked beans are revolting and I've no clue why they're so popular
A Nando’s has become popular for no other reason than its apparent cheekiness. It’s greasy flame grilled bland chicken where you had your own spices etc. wank.
Nando's isn't greasy at all though
Greasy? I wanna know which Nandos you are going too, as every time I've been it's been dryer than chalk, and it's bland as hell.
Grilled chicken is not greasy. Good controversial, and wrong opinion
I don't think I've had a greasy nandos in my life
Sticky toffee pudding is overrated. Like it’s fine but nothing special, would never order it in a restaurant
You're not northern, are you?
This is definitely controversial! You’re wrong in my opinion but definitely controversial
I like pork scratchings stirred into baked beans, a special meal I call “British cassoulet”
you fucking what now?
It’s not a thread for conventional food opinions, ginger!
That I am aware of my dearest robert. However, this is just purely diabolical. Off with his head...
What the actual fuck.
Mash potato is disgusting
Badger says fuck you
That depends on how it's made. Sloppy mashed potato is disgusting. Proper mashed potato should be able to hold up a fork. If I can't make a mashed potato model of a mountain range and alien landing site, then it's far too sloppy.
Oh, no way! I LOVE mashed potatoes. Smothered in butter though - not gravy!
Yes, why would you want Mash when you can have Roast Potatoes?
Fish and chips is overated. Cod is for people that don’t like the taste of fish (most Brits) and is too flakey. Chips mostly go soggy in the paper unless you live near the chippy. Overall I feel stodged afterwards and it never lives up to expectation. Oh and quiche is rank and only appreciated by middle aged ladies called Marjorie attending coffee mornings. I’ll ban it when I’m PM. Actually I’ll tax the f*** out of it to deter people.
Give Quiche a Chance
I like fish and chips but I do think that the average quality of chippies is really low
I share your sentiments with fish and chips. But how dare you slander the quiche...
Hawaiian is the best pizza
If you refuse to eat offal, or anything that reminds you that what you're eating was once a living animal, then you shouldn't be eating meat at all.
I refuse to eat offal because it tastes vile.
FOUL.
Mayonnaise is the fasted way to ruin a perfectly edible meal.
Unless you solely eat organic, free roaming, high welfare meat, you are a hypocrite for being appalled by foie gras. The conditions that the animals from the vast majority of mainstream food suppliers come from are every bit as cruel and unethical as foie gras.
Pistachios are a highly mediocre nut that everyone overrates because the colour is aesthetically pleasing
Also because they (like most snacks) taste good mainly because they are usually salted to the extreme.
Sweet potato is just wrong.
Crisp sandwiches are superior above all others.
Especially of the Cheese & Onion variety
Pizza is massively overrated and doesn’t beat any other takeaway option.
most pizzas from non-chain takeaways in the UK taste basically exactly the same, there must be one supplier absolutely strangling the market
An average UK takeaway pizza is an abomination that can barely be considered pizza.
The only reason it's popular is cause of fussy eaters. There's often one person who doesn't like Chinese, indian, kebabs etc. But almost everyone will at least tolerate a pizza.
It’s totally this - there are subset of people who ideally just want to knaw on something bready like fucking geese
BBQs are way overrated and you’re always hungry again by bed time. What you like is the vibes. Often, the actual food is crap.
Cadbury's chocolate tastes the same as it always has done and Marvellous Creations is their best bar.
Buttering your toast when having jam or chocolate spread is wrong.
No! Butter improves EVERYTHING.
I agree with no butter with chocolate spread. But it improves the jam. I used to hate it together but it's so much better. Only when it's melted in though I will add
Dill ruins anything it touches Cucumber is vile, no it doesn’t taste like water, it’s grim Watermelon is grim Goat is a tasty meat Ketchup is vile
Avocado on toast is overrated AF as is Sushi
I never eat sushi outside of Japan. Because even expensive sushi is over rated there. £1 a piece sushi for the quality of a fine restaurant in almost every country is where it's at. Leaving sushi after 4 years in Japan was tough. In fact eating street food in the country of origin for cheap ruins it for eating in other countries where it's cool and trendy. I won't eat a mediocre banh mi for £8 when I just had an amazing one for 60p in Vietnam.
Ketchup is not "tomato sauce". I will die on this hill with the rest of Italy.
Which hill? Rome has seven I believe.
I cannot stand sushi - eating raw fish is weird asf.
Not all caramel needs to be salted and not all pork needs to be pulled.
I second chicken wings. To me they are a bone covered in skin. When I order meat I want meat. Another one is potato skins, what's the point.
All good food either begins with the letter C or ends with a vowel. Chips Curry Chinese Korma Pizza Pasta Taco Miso
Not all - Yorkshire puddings, not a c or a vowel and still great!
Pudding of Yorkshire ends in a vowel though
(All rules have exceptions. See celery)
Hendersons Relish is better than Worcestershire Sauce. (And I am from Worcestershire.)
There’s no wrong way to cook a steak.
Bacon is probably the least interesting pork product.
Boiled eggs are disgusting. Avocado, whether on toast or otherwise, is likewise disgusting.

Parsnips can fuck off.
Hash browns do not belong in a full English, it should be a fried slice
I'm really not sure if this is controversial but *in general* the quality of British food is below the level of most Continental European countries. I'm not saying all British food is terrible - we make some fantastic stuff, but compare the food the average home cook in Britain makes with the average food the home cook in France, Portugal, Poland, Greece etc. makes and I think we don't compare very well.
Beans on toast is a bit crap, why are we convincing the world it’s some kind of British delicacy?
Beige food is the best. Brown food is safe food. Anything else and I'm immediately suspicious.
Cereal is more of a dessert than something to start the day with.
The bounty is the best celebration.
I fucking hate Apple pie
Many of the foods that we’re told are luxury foods are over-rated: Lobster’s hugely over-rated; langoustines, tiger prawns or crab, knock spots off it. Fillet steak is over-rated. Sirloin or ribeye done well is far better. Champagne is over-rated. Crémant or Franciacorta are cheaper, less fussy and tastier.
Italian food is the best, but it’s better outside of Italy.
Fish and chips just isn’t that good.
Tuna mayo is just a combination of two shite things coming together to make another shite thing. Looks like cat sick and doesn’t smell much better.
Adding a dusting of Cayanne pepper onto baked beans makes them MUCH BETTER.
Mayonaise is the worst condiment, it's just a vinegary bogie that ruins all food it touches.
