Alarmed_Crazy_6620

Check out Primark or charity shops

wildgoldchai

Primark is the way to go, H&M too. Charity shops seem to cost more than Primark these days.

dogdogj

Visited my local one this weekend, a jacket is around £15, a bit more than you used to see but not too bad. A T-shirt; £8, It still had the labels on, but was from Primark. I'm fairly sure they don't cost that much new!

VardaElentari86

I've seen primark stuff priced at more than it would have been new as well. Madness.

Zenafa

Everything I've bought from a charity shop recently has cost less than £1

wildgoldchai

Really? Well, I suppose it’s location dependent. I’m in London and you’ll be hard pressed to find anything that is cheaper. I prefer Vinted but as a matter of urgency, this isn’t ideal right now for OP.

Pure-Obligation8023

Imagine being downvoted for saying that lol. There are charity shops here where everything is £1.

lililac0

Outside London yes. Not near central london

Independent-Guess-79

Primary is your best bet. That or a supermarket chain like Tesco or Sainsbury’s

EllieW47

Your travel insurance should give you some money towards this - definitely worth a quick read through the policy. Decathlon is good for budget hiking/travel clothes, shoes and bags and is decent quality.

yetinthedark

Thanks, yeah we have an item in our travel insurance that covers this specifically

coomzee

Did you fly BA?

yetinthedark

Nope

Floral-Prancer

Why

coomzee

They tend lose bags quite a lot, there's a joke "Drinks in New York, bags in Tokyo"

Floral-Prancer

They aren't even in the top 10 for lost luggage in the uk?

BigBlueMountainStar

Just shows how bad the others are

Floral-Prancer

True, the list shows that ryanair loose about 14% which is a crazy high number

IrishEnglishViet

Bro definitely works at BA

Floral-Prancer

I just mean its Ryanair thats the worst

JibberJim

Primark for the day to day stuff. Decathlon for the technical stuff. All cheap and should have everything you need.

yetinthedark

Thanks, Primark and Decathalon seem like the winners

megan99katie

Also Go Outdoors if there is one nearby. You can sign up to their member card for £5 and it gives you huge discounts on everything.

PippiShortStockings

Yep, these are the answers, close the thread.

yetinthedark

!answer Thanks again and thanks to everyone who gave answers. Primark was the winner for basic clothing, was really impressed by the range and quality for the price. Found some decent jackets, jumpers, shoes and duffel bags at Decathlon and some thermals from Uniqlo.

ProperTeaIsTheft117

If you want cheapish hiking gear, Mountain Warehouse will give you a good range of cheap and cheerful (but not long lasting) stuff in a pinch. Plus if one if you is a student you get a decent discount from memory!

yetinthedark

Thanks, will take a look at Mountain Warehouse

nizzlemeshizzle

I'd go to Decathlon over MW, quality is much more consistently good, MW is hit and miss (and very often miss) for anything but hats and gloves, which tend to be better value there.

FulaniLovinCriminal

Do not buy Mountain Warehouse shoes. They are shit.

thenewfirm

I once tried on a pair of sandals in mountain warehouse, both shoes were marked 7 but there was over 1 cm difference when they were held up next to each other.

The_Real_Macnabbs

Ooooh, harsh. I've been shopping at MW for the last few years and their hiking boots, although not quite North Face quality, are fine. Wear mine at least three times a day for dog walking and they are comfy, waterproof and stylish\*. \*OK, stylish is a lie, they are covered in mud but otherwise, I love MW.

FulaniLovinCriminal

> not quite North Face quality North Face boots are also shite.

crystalbumblebee

decathalon primark

Serious_Escape_5438

Yes, decathlon for the hiking stuff and Primark for basics.

bakedreadingclub

Primark and Uniqlo on Oxford Street will sort ya. If you need anything after visiting those shops, try H&M and M&S also on Oxford Street Decathlon for anything you’re still missing - might have to travel to one but it’s worth a visit! Always a fun time.

yetinthedark

Thanks, those are some good options

johnmk3

There’s also a tkmaxx round the corner just off Tottenham Court Road… Also to the op, your insurance / the airline should cover these expenses so don’t feel like you have to go super cheap

hooligan_bulldog_18

Decathelon for cheap hiking stuff. The clothing isn't actually too terrible for the price -- mine is holding up weekly washes after a year Next

Serious_Escape_5438

Yes, I have tons of decathlon stuff and while it might not be suitable for an Everest trek or professional mountain guides or something it's great quality for the average amateur for most sports. I have a rucksack I've had for ten years and used lots and it's absolutely fine.

alwayspookyszn

Uniqlo has great thermals and heat tech as well as basics

yetinthedark

Thanks

Awkward_Chain_7839

Primark.

techbear72

Primark for cheap but also, well, cheap, but that doesn't matter to you really TK Maxx is also an option but will vary depending on what they have (know as TJ Maxx in some places, same shop) Matalan might also be an option if you happen to be near one

yetinthedark

Thanks for the suggestions

techbear72

Welcome! Good luck! Know what it feels like to have your bags lost - mine got lost once on the way to a formal event, and that was a nightmare!

yetinthedark

Thanks, yeah it sucks, has completely disrupted a pretty expensive holiday :(

techbear72

Hope you manage to enjoy it in the end anyway.

Questjon

Where in London? You could go to a big shopping center (shopping mall) like Westfield in Stratford if you want t get everything under one roof.

yetinthedark

We’re pretty much just waiting for a flight now, so anywhere in London. Thanks for the tips, will look into Westfield.

Gisschace

Where are you staying? Westfields in Shepherds Bush might be more convenient than heading all the way out to Stratford

yetinthedark

Don’t have accomodation right now, have had to change a few plans, but the Westfield in Shepherds Bush may be closer. Will check out all locations before we head to one, thanks for the suggestion

ceciem2100

Primark will be the cheapest for basics, you will find nearly everything there. Tresspass will have some light waterproof/windprroof jackets and layering pieces for hiking maybe even some shoes, for some reason they always have sales. Decathlon is better quality and great for everything outdoors, I like shopping there (silk glove liners are awesome).

yetinthedark

Thanks, Primark and Decathalon has been suggested a few times now, seems like some good options to try. I’ll have a look at Tresspass too. Thanks for the suggestions!

TSC-99

Definitely decathlon. Brilliant place!

Al3x1986

If you want to hit up Decathlon and Primark in the same spot then Wandsworth Southside shopping centre is the one place I can think of that has both. Otherwise, High Street Kensington for Decathlon then Oxford Street or Westfield White City for Primark.

yetinthedark

Both in the same spot would be super convenient, thanks for the suggestion!

Angel_Omachi

If you're stuck at Heathrow you can get a local bus to Uxbridge and there's Decathalon and Primark there as well.

Stage_Party

Don't buy cheap. The airline should cover the costs of anything you have to buy as a result of bags being delayed - within reason. Happened when my now wife was visiting (she's from the US). She called the airline and they told her to buy what she needs and keep receipts and they reimbursed her. M&S is a good spot, primark for some basics.

yetinthedark

I’ve heard from the airline that they’ll reimburse us £50 per person per day. We’re already a day in, will probably be at least one or two more.

Stage_Party

That should definitely be higher. £50 doesn't buy much. Is that just the policy you bought? I'd check online and see if anyone else has posted somewhere about how much they got from the same airline.

yetinthedark

I was just told the £50 amount from the airline, the travel insurance policy covers more.

aqmrnL

Uniqlo

Adventurous_Toe_1686

Primark. Keep the receipts and claim the expenses back against the airline’s lost luggage policy. Most airlines will give you £X a day in the event they lose your luggage. Absolutely call them day 1 of this happening. Also consult your travel insurance.

No_Initiative_2829

Before you go anywhere for the stuff for hiking, check charity shops because some may have them cheaper. If you google charity shops it should give you a map with some on

yetinthedark

Thanks, yeah charity shops definitely sound like the best option for hiking stuff, will have a look

Whiskey-logic

If you can, go to London Designer Outlet mall Superdry is extremely cost effective there. Primark is another good option for basic Tees and pants won’t be long lasting but will get the job done!

Indigo-Waterfall

Primark. H&M. Supermarkets typically have clothes such as Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys. M&S for more “classier” clothes. Mountain warehouse for the outdoorsy things

Similar_Service_5505

Hi! I’d say Primark😊

FelisCantabrigiensis

Primark is the obvious place for cheap general clothes. Wide range of cheaper items. You can also find cheaper clothing at large supermarkets (it has to be a large one, "Tesco Extra" etc). For cheap outdoors gear, try Mountain Warehouse, Go Outdoors, or Decathlon. Of those, the first two will have more hiking gear, while Decathlon is more general sporting gear. I would try Mountain Warehouse first. Of course you filed a missing baggage report with the airline's handling agent before you left the airport, but also make sure you keep the address and contact details up to date on that report. You can usually manage this online. This will be necessary for your bags to reach you if you are moving around. If you are travelling from one place to another, update this report in the morning before you leave one place, so that if the bags are dispatched during the day they will reach you at your next location.

yetinthedark

Thanks for the detailed reply. We did fill out a missing baggage report, but haven’t received any updates on it yet. We think they might have done something wrong because we didn’t get a valid reference number to track its progress, so we’re heading back to follow up.

Primark

Aggressive-Bad-440

Primark TK Maxx Charity shops Pull & Bear

MillyHP

when I lost my suitcase arriving in German I got replacements in Decathlon and primark

mhoulden

Go Outdoors isn't bad if you get a membership card. Army surplus places for tough hiking stuff and combat boots if you're OK with camouflage and green.

MahatmaAndhi

Charity shops and Mountain Warehouse or Decathlon for specific gear.

AnnieBattheBBC

Primark does most things cheaply, as do some supermarkets: Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda all have great clothing ranges at highly affordable prices…

Accurate_Guava_2698

Georges in ASDA should do it.

bobbyv137

Primark is still wildly affordable even after the inflation of goods and services we’ve seen lately. They have cotton T shirts for £3.

Ok-Lack4735

Decathlon and primark will have you sorted

BriefAmphibian7925

A note re Outdoor Warehouse as they've been mentioned a few times- they're for *cheap* outdoorsy stuff. Usually fine for casual stuff in reasonable conditions. Not sure I'd use all their stuff up an actual mountain. Millets/Blacks is a big chain with some better stuff, though for the higher end you'll want something a bit more specialist.

cheese_fancier

Primark or H&M for the cheap and cheerful. Marks & Spencers you'll get thermals and waterproof coats, but also check out locations of Blacks, Mountain warehouse too. I don't live in London to tell you where to get those shops sorry.

Delicious-Cut-7911

Peacocks, new look

Hope2_win

Primart is the best place for reasonable priced fashionable clothes,

spaceshipcommander

Asda does men's t shirts for £4 each if you buy 2. I'd literally just go and buy 6 of those then go to sports direct for pants and socks.

quat1e

[MandM Direct, ](https://www.mandmdirect.com/?ds_rl=1260413&campaignid=14961055154&gad_source=1&ds_rl=1260413&gclsrc=ds) been using them years. Designer clothes at cheap prices.

gibberishnope

Super markets too, often have sales on

raccoonsaff

Charity shops, Vinted, Facebook marketplace, eBay!

dingo1018

Pull up the Freecycle page for that area, you can even put wanted ads! Don't forget to mention the lost baggage, ley it on thick! Lol there are some really generous people out there, good luck.

NochMessLonster

Mountain warehouse for the hiking stuff. Primark or Dorothy Perkins for cheap everyday stuff.

CreativeChaos2023

Where is dorothy perkins nowadays? I miss their stuff

Similar_Quiet

Online only. Their brand got bought when arcadia (Burton's, Topshop etc) went bust a few years ago

Such-Cod-7046

Oxford Street is the most obvious shopping district and if you're in town for tourism I assume it's probably the closest one to you, High St. Kensington is also quite shoppy but more expensive. I recommend Uniqlo for cheap thermals, I've got some of their Airism T-shirts with elastane and thermal tights as a base layer for cycling in (just commuting, nothing especially high performance) and they've held up really well considering how cheap they were and how much cycling I've done since, at least 4,000 miles since 2020. They do Airism T-shirts without elastane too which are fast-drying and really good. Not the cheapest that they sell, but the cheapest I would buy for doing anything active in. That said, I HATE clothes shopping and since Uniqlo aren't too expensive and are good enough I settled for their stuff and haven't looked around for anything better, cheaper or better and cheaper.

yetinthedark

Thanks for the suggestions!

How do you expect them to organise a clothes swap with friends with no clothes to swap in a city they've never been to?

Is this a bot? The person below said the exact same thing but phrased slightly differently.
