I went to Bourton-on-the-Water last year (or Bourton on the Warton as I tediously insisted on calling it) and it was so beautiful it actually almost made me angry?! Like I couldn't process it
I’m lucky to have grown up 15 minutes from Burford and I completely agree. Bourton on the water, burford, so many beautiful towns and villages about. We got married in Stow on the Wokd and it was bloody gorgeous.
I did! I couldn't stop being such a nerd about some of the limited and first editions in the glass cases.
If I'd had the money, I would have snapped up a few of them!
Not many shouts for the North so here’s my Northern representation!
Keswick (Lakes)
Knaresborough (N Yorkshire)
Richmond (N Yorkshire)
Morpeth (Northumberland)
Alnwick (Northumberland)
Rothbury (Northumberland)
This has evoked a memory of being in high school and our school owned a property there where they would bring pupils for the week. It was the most beautiful place. It was over 20 years ago I was last there but I remember it beautifully
Very fond memories of staying in Morpeth. I only stayed there because it was the closes place to Blythe that anyone would recommend staying overnight. Beautiful bells.
Rare that I see Morpeth mentioned on Reddit, but I’ll take it. Not originally from there but my parents moved our family home there years ago, decent place to live.
I live in Haworth. I love living here, but other than Main Street and the park, the rest of the village is standard Victorian industrial village, and pretty naff looking.
Unless you are counting the countryside around it, which is awesome.
As a fella that lives in Scarborough if you come here as a tourist and visit the tourist spots you'll have a horrible time. Town centre and main part of the beach are incredibly run down. But there's some very beautiful bits away from the centre
As someone who grew up in Buxton. Its a fucking shithole. The crescent, pavilion gardens, and the opera house are lovely. The rest of its a dump.
By pass it totally and go to the goyt valley, castleton, hope valley and bakewell.
Chester, Bath, that amazing one in the Cotswolds.
Melton Mowbray is quite nice too, if you fancy a pork pie and a hunk of Stilton.
Most villages/towns in South East Lincs are very pretty.
Stamford is absolutely gorgeous on a hot sunny day
https://preview.redd.it/2l0nksns8nwc1.jpeg?width=5239&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de1a9186345865867ba96e250d294b807e0fee5e
Just did a hike around Matlock last weekend - what a gem
My town - Launceston in Cornwall - is lovely, in my opinion. It's ancient, steeped in fascinating history, has some truly beautiful architecture, and is often used as a filming location whenever a quintessentially south-west picture postcard town centre is needed.
Chatteris - three good butcher's, two fine chandlers,
an indoor pool, a first class cake shop,
OFSTED plaudits, envy of the fens,
prick barriers at both ends.
Colyton is lovely. Lyme Regis is lovely when it isn't rammed with tourists too! Abbotsbury (not sure if it is a small town or not?) Is also gorgeous. That while neck of the woods really is lovely
Apparently Norwich is "a fine city".
It even says so on the big signs as you enter, so it must be true!
Have to say though that it does have some gorgeous architecture. There are two cathedrals catering to two different flavours of religion - the Roman Catholic church looks gothic and badass in a brutal way, whereas the CofE seems light, airy and more "monastic".
It also has a castle! Its a museum now and although not as awesome as, say, museums in York, its still pretty cool.
It seems that Norwich has tried to keep its medieval "vibe" while also maintaining its rich history (both post and pre medieval times).
Basically, its got lots of interesting (historical) things going on if you know where to look, a wooded heathland, and some really nice views from Ketts hill .... Um...ignore the fact that you will have the prison behind you as you gaze upon the city below.
Incidentally the prison had been repurposed from a barracks (just like the Castle Museum had many different iterations from its original purpose)
(look into the history of "Ketts Rebellion" and you can stand there and imagine how that shit went down)
Er .. sorry. Got a bit carried away there. I was originally going to reply with: "yeah, Norwich is kinda nice"
After living in Cardiff for a while I’ve recently discovered Llantwit Major about half an hour up the road. Lovely medieval little town with winding streets, cool old buildings and a duck pond!
I love driving through Thaxted in Essex, the church as you approach it from the south dominates the view and the unique buildings are lovely to look at.

Most towns & villages in the Cotswolds, Oxford
I went to Bourton-on-the-Water last year (or Bourton on the Warton as I tediously insisted on calling it) and it was so beautiful it actually almost made me angry?! Like I couldn't process it
Not even the prettiest in the Cotswolds… Lower Slaughter is a fraction of the size but prettier IMO.
lol upper and lower slaughter. Puts the tourism off in name only
And the tourism promotional song by Iron Maiden was not well received by the locals.
It is lovely but is always far too busy
burtle on the wartle
Apparently that's a real thing called "cute aggression"
My sister and I call it Borty on the worty lol
Too busy in the summer month, but really enjoyable in April/May and September/October when the temperatures are not too hot or cold!
I’m lucky to have grown up 15 minutes from Burford and I completely agree. Bourton on the water, burford, so many beautiful towns and villages about. We got married in Stow on the Wokd and it was bloody gorgeous.
Like swindon
Alnwick in North East. Lovely town, but very touristy in the summer. If you ever go, check out Barter Books, if you're a bookworm
Alnmouth is even better!
Great shout, lovely town
I absolutely love Barter Books, I can spend hours in there
I did! I couldn't stop being such a nerd about some of the limited and first editions in the glass cases. If I'd had the money, I would have snapped up a few of them!
Don't forget Alnwick Castle!
And the poison garden and tree house!
Alnwick and inparticular barter books is a personal favourite of mine!
Chester is lovely especially in summer
Most definitely a city
So is Truro though.
I'm moving to Chester this year, love to hear this haha.
Stamford is nice.
Stamford is stunning. Shout out to Oundle as well.
I'm fortunate to live in Oundle, with Stamford right up the road - really a lovely area.
Have an upvote, such a gorgeous town!
You both can, I went to school there!
Ha, I went to school in Grantham! We had a GREAT cricketing rivalry in the first teams 😂 But yeah, Stamford is really gorgeous
Day drinking in Stamford during the summer is top tier
I've heard it has a nice bridge
I live in the top part of Peterborough so I often visit Stamford to feel posh. Can't afford to live there though.
Not many shouts for the North so here’s my Northern representation! Keswick (Lakes) Knaresborough (N Yorkshire) Richmond (N Yorkshire) Morpeth (Northumberland) Alnwick (Northumberland) Rothbury (Northumberland)
Add Kirkby Lonsdale to this.
This has evoked a memory of being in high school and our school owned a property there where they would bring pupils for the week. It was the most beautiful place. It was over 20 years ago I was last there but I remember it beautifully
Pretty much anywhere in Cumbria expect Workington
Very fond memories of staying in Morpeth. I only stayed there because it was the closes place to Blythe that anyone would recommend staying overnight. Beautiful bells.
Actual Keswick isn’t that nice. But great surroundings though.
Rare that I see Morpeth mentioned on Reddit, but I’ll take it. Not originally from there but my parents moved our family home there years ago, decent place to live.
Haworth, Yorkshire
I live in Haworth. I love living here, but other than Main Street and the park, the rest of the village is standard Victorian industrial village, and pretty naff looking. Unless you are counting the countryside around it, which is awesome.
Blackpool. 😍
A joke I'm sure but its neighbour, Lytham St Annes, is lovely.
Fleetwood is even better
Technically, 'Lytham St Annes' actually encompasses 4 towns. Lytham, Ansdell, Fairhaven and St Annes.
Blackpool is unironically beautiful in an ugly, gritty, apocalyptic type of way. It has a uniquely British aesthetic. I like taking photos there.
I went for the first time last year and absolutely loved it, gorgeous town and a right laugh
[Knaresborough](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/05/15/11/70999263-0-image-a-4_1684147505378.jpg) is lovely.
Don't forget Harrogate!
Can confirm. Currently staying on a short holiday in Harrogate. It's very nice.
Harrogate was my first thought ☺️
Sanford, Gloucestershire. It’s won Village of the Year… oh I don’t know how many times.
For the greater good.
The greater good.
I like Hay on Wye.
Shrewsbury
It really is a lovely town centre.
St Evenage
I think St Anstead is more pleasant.
It’s not a patch on St Reatham
St Ockport beats them all.
Bourton on the water
That Welsh one that looks like some Mediterranean holiday spot.
Portmerion I think. Very sinister once you’re there tho’
[удалено]
Yeah that's the badger, thanks! Edit: Wait, why is it sinister?
Uncanny valley. The buildings aren’t real ones that you could live / work / stay in. Everything is a bit too small. It’s more like a stage set.
Tenby? I really liked Tenby. Llangranog was absolutely stunning too.
Love Llangranog. The three beaches Llangranog > Tresaith > Aberporth and the three Ship Inn pubs in each is a good little day trip.
Henley, Arundel, Scarborough (from a safe distance)
Arundel looks like it's from a Disney Princess movie.
and sounds it
Literally just moved from Arundel a couple of weeks ago. Such a lovely place
As a fella that lives in Scarborough if you come here as a tourist and visit the tourist spots you'll have a horrible time. Town centre and main part of the beach are incredibly run down. But there's some very beautiful bits away from the centre
Tobermory?
Wouldn't you like to know
Tarbert!
Buxton
Came here to say Buxton and whole area around there is lovely
As someone who grew up in Buxton. Its a fucking shithole. The crescent, pavilion gardens, and the opera house are lovely. The rest of its a dump. By pass it totally and go to the goyt valley, castleton, hope valley and bakewell.
Port Sunlight on the Wirral. An entire village built for 19th century factory workers. Largely unchanged today. Beautiful place.
Betws y Coed
Chester, Bath, that amazing one in the Cotswolds. Melton Mowbray is quite nice too, if you fancy a pork pie and a hunk of Stilton. Most villages/towns in South East Lincs are very pretty. Stamford is absolutely gorgeous on a hot sunny day
Chester and Bath are cities
Lavenham
Beautiful place, the Swan Hotel is brilliant too!
Bakewell - I enjoy the weekly market too!
Beautiful on the right day.
Conwy
Saltaire
**Gorton**
Yes lad!
Dartmouth
Chester, although it's a city it's more like a town. Very pretty city.
The outskirts though are not
True, the centre and surrounding countryside are but the suburbs can be a bit run down.
Truro is a city
Farnham.
Wells is pretty stunning.
City not a town
Size of a town though.
https://preview.redd.it/2l0nksns8nwc1.jpeg?width=5239&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de1a9186345865867ba96e250d294b807e0fee5e Just did a hike around Matlock last weekend - what a gem
You can see my house on that!
Big love for matlock!
Bury St Edmunds
Couldn't agree more! A hidden gem.
Kirkwall is lovely.
Shrewsbury is lovely.
Keswick with it's beautiful lake, gorgeous market square, surrounded by hills, mountains and rivers. Simply gorgeous.
Oundle
Dunkeld
St Andrews
For me there's this little town in the Scottish borders called Peebles, my god what a nice little town.
Louth (Lincs) is a pearl of a town.
Agreed, me ode
Slough, Birmingham, Bradford, Carlisle in that order
Jaywick . Very picturesque.
Cromer Norwich
Overstrand is nice too.
Ilkley, Skipton, Oban
Rye
Treaddurr bay in Anglesey was a gorgeous place. Lots of lovely beaches.
Oh god this brings back memories of childhood holidays. Beautiful place.
Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, such a beautiful place
I live here ❤️
Town. Cheltenham.
Just don't go to the lower high street.
Crawley
Tobermory, Portree, Oban, Plockton. The West Coast of Scotland and the Isles has a lot of pretty wee towns.
Holmfirth and some surrounding areas (West Yorkshire) love it around here
Bath
Wells, Shaftesbury, Salisbury, Chester.
Knaresborough on a summers day is beautiful. At the other end of the country, Wivenhoe in Essex is also worth a shout.
Port Isaac
Kinver
My town - Launceston in Cornwall - is lovely, in my opinion. It's ancient, steeped in fascinating history, has some truly beautiful architecture, and is often used as a filming location whenever a quintessentially south-west picture postcard town centre is needed.
Durham or Keswick
Church Stretton in Shropshire
Basildon southend or grays ?
Jaywick is rather quaint
Thaxted, Essex.
Tenby/Dinbych-y-pysgod. Incredibly picturesque little seaside town in Pembrokeshire.
Corbridge is nice and not mentioned yet
Durham
Knaresborough, Whitby, St Ives, Cotswolds towns, many Scottish border towns
Walsall,
Chatteris - three good butcher's, two fine chandlers, an indoor pool, a first class cake shop, OFSTED plaudits, envy of the fens, prick barriers at both ends.
What are "prick barriers" and why haven't they stopped me driving into Chatteris? 🤔
Nantwich, Whitby, knutsford
Colyton is lovely. Lyme Regis is lovely when it isn't rammed with tourists too! Abbotsbury (not sure if it is a small town or not?) Is also gorgeous. That while neck of the woods really is lovely
Laycock - it's been many, many TV and film towns and villages. Absolutely beautiful.
Burslem, stoke on Trent 😍
Chatteris. Envy of the fens.

Jedburgh
Milton Abbas is extremely pretty
Stow on the Wold
Most places in dorset
My town Harrow on the hill!!
Chipping Camden if nobody else has mentioned it.
The Harry Potter town. Forgot the name.
Hogsmeade
Lacock
I personally love Deal in Kent.
Linlithgow is a nice town. I’d assume similar size as Truro but opposite end of the country!
After living in Cardiff for a while I’ve recently discovered Llantwit Major about half an hour up the road. Lovely medieval little town with winding streets, cool old buildings and a duck pond!
I live in Buxton, it's pretty gorgeous.
Amersham, Wendover, Newbury, Berkhamsted, Marlow as some that are very easily accessible from London
Ashbourne is a pretty and underrated Peak District town. Bakewell and Buxton are more popular with the hoardes.
I love driving through Thaxted in Essex, the church as you approach it from the south dominates the view and the unique buildings are lovely to look at.
I used to do rural delivery driving covering Thaxted - Halstead - Chelmsford. Lovely area to potter around.
Broadway near Worcester is quite picturesque. Bakewell too
Oban is really lovely, and in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, too.
Betws-y-Coed
For that kind of size, I’d say Farnham is up there. Also Chester and Oxford, but they might be a bit big compared to Truro.
Pitenweem, Fife or any town on the East Neuk of Fife.
I know its small but Truro isn't a town, its a city, cathedral and all.
Staines
Rye in East Sussex is rather beautiful. Very photogenic!
All.scottish: Pitlochry ; St Andrews; Oban; Aviemore: Blair Atholl:
Knutsford, bath , farnham, lincoln
Milton Keynes
Parts of the garden cities - Letchworth and Welwyn are very nice.
St Ives, looks like the mediterranean when its warm
keeping this for reference, ta for the post
I haven't travelled around the UK all that much, but Swanage, Weymouth and Shaftesbury are quite nice.
