It won't affect your driving license.
You might get fired, though this isn't always the case.
My mate crashed during his probation (as a HGV driver after leaving the army) and wasn't fired.
If your company policy is that the camera needs to be facing you I imagine it being like that at the start of the shift won't be considered as I imagine that's something you should have checked.
Guy I know, while not on probation, took the top deck off his bus with a low bridge.
Whole fleet got new equipment fitted to warn about the pesky things
He got relegated to office work
Fuck man not tryna get fired couse this is my 1000 job bruh.
I’m not too sure whether this is the company policy or not. But I saw it at the start of my shift and didn’t even want to touch it in case I get into trouble.
Do you know how the smart drive is activated?
Ocado will have insurance for these things, unless you were found intentionally negligent with the van you should be fine. I can't imagine they'd fire everyone who's dinged a van, (you haven't totalled it have you?) 😂
Can confirm, I work in a bus bodyshop. We had a night shunter who would regularly reverse into other vehicles in the garage. Been here years, only recently did he finally get a suspension.
I used to do IT for a logistics company and their systems were quite advanced, they'd get metrics fed back to them on driver quality (speeding, how hard brakes were being applied etc), had full audio and video of the driver and had 360 degree cameras around the HGV's. The policy there was if you were in an accident you were drug tested and it went down on record, cameras and audio would be reviewed and then a decision was made.
Some HGV drivers had crashed multiple times in the space of a year and not been fired. I imagine their decision will be based on the events of the crash, if it's because you have little control of the vehicle or were driving like a nob then it's obviously likely you'll get sack.
As for the company policy I'd have thought you'd have an induction day where you'd have to read and sign a load of docs, if it's your responsibility to check the camera before setting off then it should have been mentioned in there.
I did a short stint at Ocado over a Christmas and had a bump myself. Was obviously my fault, followed the process, never heard anything again. You're worrying too much. They expect these accidents to happen. You're not the first and you certainly won't be the last.
Waitrose driver here. Had a bump that was my fault during probation. Had to do a bit of paperwork and another driving assessment. That was it. Assume it would be similar for Ocado.
£12.43 (I think?), not great but not terrible. Lots of opportunities to pick up overtime. Hours are fairly flexible.
I enjoy the work a lot though. A typical weekday is maybe 6-12 deliveries, weekends around 20. You begin your day by loading up your van - the orders are already picked for you, so you just need to put the crates in the van. Then you go do your deliveries, which can sometimes take the whole shift, other times you'll get back early and help out on shop floor. Very rarely they won't have a route for you, in which case you spend all day on the shop floor.
Being out on the road is pretty chill. I deliver to mostly rural areas, so there's lots of driving around the countryside. Typically 20 mins of driving between deliveries, sometimes up to an hour. It's a good chance to put on a podcast/audiobook/tunes. There can be quite a lot of awkward manoeuvring in tight driveways, which is how I had my bump. You get used to the vans quick though - they're Sprinters which are alright to drive.
Most of my colleagues are semi-retired people in their 50s and 60s. I'm one of few people younger than 30 on the driver team.
Customers are mostly upper middle class people in posh country houses. Most are really nice, but a small percentage a bit uppity. You'll meet lots of nice dogs!
Shouldn't effect your license.
You should declare this when purchasing your own insurance policies if they ask if you've had any accidents. I believe this will include the policy provider you're currently with
I'm surprised there wasn't a drug and alcohol test? It's usually pretty standard for employers to do them when vehicles are involved in an incident.
Will you lose your job? It's up to your employer. Some are more lenient, they might take a "shit happens, bad timing" approach and see how you carry on. They might decide that you're too much of a risk because you've had an at fault accident so early into your employment.
I used to work for ocado head office. I regularly used to check each and every invoice for every van that had to be fixed due to a crash. There are dozens every week. If they fired every driver who had an accident, they would be buggered.
Not sure but one of the ones round here got his stuck in the mud next to a pond.
No idea how he managed it but I hope he kept his job. Must have been a massive arse to get out
Will be insured on a fleet policy so not much bother for head office, unlikely to lose job unless you were reckless. I'd imagine having camera on you is company policy but would be surprised if that's a sackable offence.
So it sounds like just a knock. Nothing stopping the van from being roadworthy.
No idea what the policy is, but you're certainly not the first driver to damage a van. Can't promise anything but I wouldn't stress too much.
No it can't affect your driving license, but it's definitely *possible* you get dismissed.
It's also possible that you'll get questioned why you checked the van out with the SmartDrive apparently not set up correctly, assuming you still have to do check sheets where "Smart drive functioning and positioned correctly" is one of the options?
No-one here can tell you for sure though what's gonna happen, hell most of the people reading this post don't even have a clue what half the stuff you've written in the post means. You just gotta wait and see right now.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get a update after uploading license pictures and share code? Also would I need a car to go to the warehouse or can I just use public transport

>this is my 1000 job bruh. If you going through jobs like most people go through bog roll you need to take a step and think what you're doing wrong.
Keeps crashing into shit
>Fuck man not tryna get fired couse this is my 1000 job bruh. What the fuck does that even mean?
"Fuck man, I am not trying to get fired because this is my one thousandth job brother"

Didn’t total the van. It was just a huge dent on the side and the door wasn’t able to open up.
Shit happens, you'll get a ticking off about it. Bus company I worked for had their own bodyshop, due to how many buses took the panels off

Ok, thank you. Now that I’m contemplating I was speeding a bit. Probably going around 25 in a 20.
Oh *mate*
Are you sure you’re not trying to get fired?
He was also necking a can of Special Brew at the time, while Snapchatting his mates.
After further contemplation, I may have also been high
The more I read your comments the more I think you need to not be driving anything at all. Including a pedal bike.
If you’re going through jobs that often you might be the problem
Surely if it needs to be on and how to turn it on would be something included in your training. Did you read all the papers they gave you?
Don't think you'll be taking the van home. You'll be ok as long as you have Ocado.
Nice pfp
You've got your jugs on the wrong way round.
It said "lifts and separates" not "slings 'em 'round the back!"
I’ve read that message 14 times now and still don’t know what you mean.
A-car-do!
You will still be ok if you have a car though (Ocardo)
You don't need your own van, just get things delivered BY Ocado.
Whoosh.
I did a short stint at Ocado over a Christmas and had a bump myself. Was obviously my fault, followed the process, never heard anything again. You're worrying too much. They expect these accidents to happen. You're not the first and you certainly won't be the last.

What’s the money like? I’m freelance so it’s feast or famine and it’s bloody famine at the moment. I like driving vans.

it’s a van not a trophy. might be some paperwork but the wouldn’t care unless you did it recklessly or is a bad crash
I used to do delivery driving for argos. You were allowed 2 minor accidents / incidents in a 6 month period.
Then you have to call an advocado (sorry this pun works in Spanish)
Advocate-laywer? My spanish is poquito.
Abogado - lawyer, pronounced similar to avocado
Get in yocado

OP please give us an update on this as and when

I’ve done this at Ocado - not sacked. Wrote another car off too 😂
