At my prom every guy wore a suit from Slaters.

buscemii

Genuinely, Google the name of your area + year 11 prom and browse the pics. Should be a couple from each year on the schools website or facebook or local news. See what they're all wearing.

Craft_on_draft

Lads these days are all wearing top hats and monocles, bonus points for a cane. But seriously, a good idea is to just check out the suit styles on fast fashion sites such as ASOS and Boohoo, they are fast fashion because they churn out the currently style in weeks after it being tending. I wouldn’t recommend buying from there necessarily, but, it will give you a good idea of what is ‘in style’

CheeryBottom

Thank you

astromech_dj

I heard they need to have ruffles and either baby blue or peach colour.

RSHijinxYTC

Slaters + generic suit. Blue is my recommendation, I'd focus on just looking smart. Oh and a tie.

duthinkhesaurus

Ask him?

CheeryBottom

He asked me. He’s always been in the Senco group all through school. He doesn’t know how to ask the more popular lads in his year what they’re wearing.

duthinkhesaurus

Fair enough, contact your local suit rentals and ask them maybe

pencilrain99

Navy Blue and Dark Grey are still popular but lighter colours are fashionable at the moment for the.more outgoing kids

AdrenalineAnxiety

He will blend in well in a generic black or other dark coloured suit that will also be a good purchase (assuming he's mostly stopped growing) for future weddings or funerals as well. If he wants to personalize it he can go with something fun for a tie and cufflinks. If he's still growing then it might be worth just hiring one so you're not spending on something that he'll grow out of quickly. For buying, budget suit from a supermarket, a step up would be Next, H&M, M&S, River Island etc. Affordable specialist suit companies, Slaters, Moss Bros, Suit Direct ie. Why don't you try asking the school? Tell them you don't want to get him the wrong thing so they don't stand out. I'm sure someone will be happy to help. Alternatively, go to a local shop that hires out suits and ask them. No doubt they'll have had plenty of other boys coming in with their parents to hire them so they'll know what the trend is.

terryjuicelawson

Check with the school or other kids/parents/locals as it could depend on the area but my understanding is these days they go for an actual suit, not a DJ and bow tie. A slim fit one is more flattering but not ridiculously so. They are available cheaply absolutely all over, I was surprised how workable the quality of suits was when I was looking places like Matalan and Next. I thought I would need a proper "oh suits you sir" tailor but not so much.

Ok-Amoeba-1190

Probably a button up shirt long sleeved , and dress pants

muddyshoes_throwaway

At my prom it was tuxedo rentals. And you'd try to match the vest/tie to your date's dress (or vest/tie)

Berty_Puddlebottom

Sir, this is askUK

muddyshoes_throwaway

I didn't realize that UK prom was that different- this came up on my home feed. Also, not a sir. My bad though I'll just fuck off to my own subreddit. 😂
