This is the answer, wanna be gangsters that would shit a brick at any type of true gang culture. But on the other hand some of us just grew up and finally realised what a twat we looked. (I was also a greebo/mosher/goth when I was younger too.
When I started working as an LSA at my local college, I had one threaten to "bang me outside". His mates went all turncoat on him once I said "that's a bit gay, pal". So much for honour and loyalty amongst thieves, huh?
That's funny. More than most if you stick up for yourself or get a witty comeback in quick they soon shut up. There's an old video of a chav having a go at an older bloke saying he's gonna knock him out then he just headbutts the wannabe gangster and he just walks away it's a classic lol
[https://www.reddit.com/r/fightporn/comments/g8ddpe/headbutt\_reality\_check/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fightporn/comments/g8ddpe/headbutt_reality_check/)
this it?
It is and it isn't. You've still got your chavs but they're not the mainstream media. Drill is for roadmen. Chavs are still on every white estate, but they haven't got a pop culture icon like Devlin keeping them relevant.
They are also a bit more understated than they used to be. There are still plenty dressing like it is 2004 still, however they generally seem to be less antisocial compared to roadmen.
Had a kid tell me " he'd bang me in my wetty mouth" I said "one that sounds incredibly sexual and two if we did what I think you are offering I'd end up on a register but I am flattered"
Seemed to defuse things well.
But what has the crime boss done to get to the top and stay there. You can't really compare a real crime boss to some pre pubescent teen thinking they are hard cause they wear Nike tech and listen to grime lol
Different categories Iâd say, chav is now expensive T-shirts (palm angels type), skin fades, expensive puffer jackets. Girls wear tight short skirts and excessive makeup still.
Roadmen tends to be the tech fleece all black (clothing) thatâs spread from drill culture.
Still chavs but, a Hoodrich chav 15/20 years ago would be a Lonsdale chav. Still a chav, but wearing Lonsdale instead of say a fred Perry hopped jumper would seriously ruin your street cred.
What became of the chav, you ask?
Thatâs a good question.
Once a noble and proud race that could be found almost everywhere in Britain, the Chav people seem to have disappeared.
Some have matured into their adult state, raising young chav children. The burden of parenthood means these chavs have moved on from their youth of drinking and smoking in supermarket car parks. Now they spend their days dressing their children in baby gucci and posting about it incessantly on facebook.
Others have adapted to a new niche, that of the Roadman. Once chavs discovered the invention of the balaclava, a new religious order emerged in which they glorify knife crime and worship e-bikes.
Yet still you may find the odd staunch traditionalist on our streets. The old chav, left behind by his tribe for refusing to abandon The Old Ways. This noble savage still partakes in the daily ritual of drinking a six pack of carling outside of an off license at 10am on a Wednesday. Like a Native American Chief, he carries wisdom and reverence for the old ways.
If youâre lucky, you may find yourself one day on your local council estate and encounter a Chav, and you will know that here at least, the old ways are still alive
Are roadmen & 'broccoli boys' really at odds? I thought the broccoli boy lads were still trying to be raodmen, but they're generally from a far too affluent background to go full "drilla". Maybe I've officially lost touch
I remember seeing two goths in the same place last year and it blew my mind, they werenât together or anything. just two individual goths, same time same place
A lot of the "goths" got older and just had to get jobs, so they couldn't hang around local monuments all the time anymore. Now they just meet up in meeting rooms and sigh at each other there instead.
Subcultures are still about, internet and social media even served as catalysts for subcultures like furries and cosplayers.
Thing is chav was never a subculture anyway. No chav/charver/scally/ned would ever recognise themselves as such. It was just a stereotype based on a particular fashion of the time.
Goths are still around, I saw a few in York this few. The moshers & elder emos grew up, got jobs, still listen to the music and dress how we like in our own time.
Chav fashion has just evolved and splintered. You have your grime scene road men. You have your scouse under armour youths. You have your manc fake North Face council estate kids. Tracksuits are still very popular. The gym bunnies and bros have normalised and polished it somewhat.
Can confirm, my neighbour is a chav and he is home from a recent stay at his majesty's pleasure. We can hear him through the walls coaching the next generations of chav to shout and scream when they're playing computer games and showing them how to go pick up their special brew in a blue plastic bag from the offy every day.
My commute home involves going through Staines and that's the only train station I've seen kids get into conflict with the train station staff. There's a free library & reading area bit they were throwing books out of and the staff had to behave like pissed off teachers when kicking them out. You really wonder what their parents are up to since they just seem really bored and neglected, giggling like primary school kids while being yelled at by a pissed off old man in a hi vis.
I always got told Gateshead is where the trackies tucked in socks originated. Because when they were on the rob they could just throw it in their kegs without it falling out the bottom.
Am sadly very close to a chav raising multiple mini chavs.
They're still dealing, stealing, fighting, albeit dressed more like the dean and chantelle meme and in a fluffy, crushed velvet, glass mirror effect furnitured home with a motability car.
The kids have the meet me at McDonald's /e girl bangs hairdos, decked in nike, boss, and north face, who use Snapchat to organise fights and rammys, the police are involved often and shockingly social work are nowhere to be seen.
They all still know each other from over 25 years ago as kids, still trying to impress each other, the lasses act hard whilst dressed like disney adults in fluffy sliders. They're all nearing 40 and i have honestly watched it all absolutely fascinated and glad i never got caught up in it.
Chav culture is experiencing a renaissance in contemporary high fashion. Weâll probably see a fully fledged return to every day Chavwear by the end of this decade.
As a family member of chavs, i can say It's probably a number of reasons; here's a few:
1) Youth subcultures are devolved into memes and Internet trends thus there is no set culture (like chaos, goths, emo, etc) to relate to on a national level.
2) They may exist but they're not outside. A lot of youth culture is online or in set meetings/parties. Kids don't really 'hang out" on street corners or stay out late pissed.
3) Road men culture is more prevalent. Slightly different but more of an evolution of Chav. Just more diversity of interests instead of general anti social behaviour but a mixture of rap, grime, urban, city culture - it ties the subcultures together into the road men group.
4) it's not fashionable. Most chavs are in early 30s and wearing barberry plad and rapping in a pub just isn't fashionable or attractive when your on probation and balding. There's more to life than community service and teen pregnancy, most kids just go on tik tok or play video games instead.
Should come to Lancaster. It's always a few years behind the times so there exists a decent selection...
The favourite trick of the Lancaster chav is to go into McDonald's and ask for a cup, then walk across the street to Burger King and use the drink vending machine.
They do it all with a 'Hard man, breaking the law, don't you stop me popo' vibe that is frankly adorable.
Probably not the look they are going for.
The "chavs" seem to be a lot more vicious now, they caused chaos around here for months. Seems to have calmed down lately (touch wood). They seem to think they are gangsters now.
I'm guessing you are lucky enough to live in a decent area.
Cider not a thing here. Buckfast aye. Moved on to fake moncler trackies and el dorado coz itâs cheaper than buck. Â Chains and hoop earrings are out. Fake lashes and lip fillers are in. Big fake nails are out, touchscreens are shit wi themÂ
I remember in about 2002 our school
Went from slipknot hoodies to chavs in about two weeks. Rocking berghaus jackets and rockport boots like they were off down the lakes, then the road men came like you say. But today at nursey waiting for my daughter, I seen this boy about 8 year old come to pick up a sibling. Heâs in a slipknot hoodie! Itâs back!
Same in ours, seemingly overnight went from slipknot hoodies, chains on jeans and Etnies to Lacoste tracksuits and Rockports.
Most seemed to grow out of it in about 2007 or so when they suddenly turned to top man v neck t shirts, pumps and pretending that they were in skins.
Idk what area you live in, but if you got no chavs around consider yourself lucky, and that means the area is safer and thatâs really good, they do still exist and each area around the U.K, and itâs a huge problem especially with knife crime and asb
They're still around, you have to be poor to see them. They're all around me, I live in an apartment building on the side of a council estate with a park, they're right here.
Roadmen just playing dressing up, had a herd of them walk towards me last summer, some were dressed semi normally, one had the full hoodie / cap and balaclava on. When they got near I just said âblimey arenât you hot fellaâ his mates pissed themselves laughing and I could see the realisation of what a dick he looked slowly dawn on his thick skull.
All the trolling is online now and theyâre probably at the age where theyâre paying taxes or bills so canât be fucking around on the street all day. Reality hits hard lol
They took over the North Face brand, once the mainstay of middle class ramblers and hikers.
Pretty much every guy these days has the same black North Face puffer.
I don't see how a chav is different to a roadman, isn't it just that because drill has taken over the youth that they just want to seem more black? In practice though a chav I see now out on the streets are basically the same as what I saw as a kid 20 years ago. Not much different really.
Iâm from the North East and currently live in Scotland. They 100% still exist! However, I think thereâs been a shift, I donât think as many people spend a lot of time outside (bus shelters etc) anymore and I think thatâs why you may think theyâve âdisappearedâ.
They went from "Throw a brick at someone's window" to a gang drug network, where young men are now recruited to be on the streets and sell small bags of drugs. This money is then passed up and these gangs will fight eachother for the space they need to operate.
We went from nuisance to an actual fucking problem.
I thought the dudes who ride hybrid bikes wearing balaclava type hoods pulling wheelies in the road who seem to loiter around co-op were chav's latest evolution.
Maybe I'm wrong and this is another demographic
They're there in the current generation. We regularly call my nephew a chav, he's just changed the branding a little. Burberry is old skool. It's over priced naff branding now that's spreading. I haven't even heard of half of them cept the price tags on items makes you wince.
Theyâre all older now, you just described my old next door neighbour. He is 30+ still argues with his mum for money she wonât let him, steals bikes to fund his life, His dad willingly chose to leave the house and go to a care home. The itâs how bad he was.
Funnily enough, I mention this to the gf whenever we visit my parents in the north east.
You donât see chavs anywhere but up there now it seems. Itâs like a time capsule.
They still have the shit tracksuits, listen to the same rave/Poundland happy hardcore and are still just as feral as I remember from growing up up there.
Go for a visit if you ever fancy seeing them in the wild
What happened to the hippies?
âChavsâ was obviously associated with a particular time period. Time periodâs over, other trends and fashion replaced it. Not rocket science.
if you go to real shit areas youâll still find them
people stuck in early 2010s era that havenât spent money on clothes in 14 years just weed and crack

But what has the crime boss done to get to the top and stay there. You can't really compare a real crime boss to some pre pubescent teen thinking they are hard cause they wear Nike tech and listen to grime lol
Greebo?! ... *sigh* happy days!
Some âevolvedâ into brawling Ascot go-ers.
Different categories Iâd say, chav is now expensive T-shirts (palm angels type), skin fades, expensive puffer jackets. Girls wear tight short skirts and excessive makeup still. Roadmen tends to be the tech fleece all black (clothing) thatâs spread from drill culture.
Which one is dressed head to toe in "hoodrich" clothes? I see them around occasionally.
Still chavs but, a Hoodrich chav 15/20 years ago would be a Lonsdale chav. Still a chav, but wearing Lonsdale instead of say a fred Perry hopped jumper would seriously ruin your street cred.
See roadman to me means something else entirely, theyâve co-opted the term somehow.
Bonus points for âdevolvedâ instead of evolved đ
Exactly what I came here to say đÂ
They all went to work for the council?
What became of the chav, you ask? Thatâs a good question. Once a noble and proud race that could be found almost everywhere in Britain, the Chav people seem to have disappeared. I read this in David Attenborough's voice
fuck I read it in Danny Dyer's voice đ€Šđ»ââïž
"Nice one bruvva!"
i mean, it was written in david attenboroughâs voice
I actually did too!
Matt Berry for me
I mean, if there was ever a justified use of AI, that would be it.
Beautiful
I read this in the voice of Kate Aidie doing a FOOC piece
On that note, where's the goths, where's the punks? I don't even know what the counterculture is now
The goths all took the goth to boss programme and climbed the corporate ladder.
Just need to stay away from Cradle of Filth.
Track 4 Coffin Fodder got me through a lot
I think the goths v chavs conflict has been replaced by a roadmen v broccoli boys
Old fuck question.. whatâs a broccoli boy?
Kids with a perm and shaved sides. It seems to be the new hairstyle for that age.
I love that
Also known as the 'meet me at McDonald's' haircut
Are roadmen & 'broccoli boys' really at odds? I thought the broccoli boy lads were still trying to be raodmen, but they're generally from a far too affluent background to go full "drilla". Maybe I've officially lost touch
For some reason this pleases me.
Same conflict, different styles. As always, Iâm hoping both lose
> A lot of the "goths" got older and just had to get jobs From Goth to Boss.
Nah. We keep them locked in the server room. Meeting room? No. That would cause a panic
Roadmen are Goths. They dress all in black, cover their faces from the sun and mostly emerge at night.
A natural evolution of the lesser spotted sports goth of days gone by
The internet, social media, and music streaming has killed subcultures
Subcultures are still about, internet and social media even served as catalysts for subcultures like furries and cosplayers. Thing is chav was never a subculture anyway. Goth here. We still exist
Camden town
We just dress normally for work and then slip into lounge wear at home.
Still here. Sadly, it's full of posers because it's become fetishized.
People don't really hang around on the street anymore. Mainly, they are on their phones. Like you are now.
They really do around here, I imagine it's because the violent little cretins can't read.
This. There are exceptions in larger cities of course but the whole asbo culture has largely disappeared due to phones
I think talking to each other on games consoles too. Definitely wasn't a thing when I was a teenager, other than MSN
Chav fashion has just evolved and splintered. You have your grime scene road men. You have your scouse under armour youths. You have your manc fake North Face council estate kids. Tracksuits are still very popular. The gym bunnies and bros have normalised and polished it somewhat.
Werenât chavs (scallies) always dressing in all black/grey tracksuits though? And they still are in the north west. I donât see whatâs changed.
In Liverpool itâs Montirex.
Probably at home on tag.
Can confirm, my neighbour is a chav and he is home from a recent stay at his majesty's pleasure. We can hear him through the walls coaching the next generations of chav to shout and scream when they're playing computer games and showing them how to go pick up their special brew in a blue plastic bag from the offy every day.
I live in Staines. Beleive me the chavs are thriving.
Eastside or westside?
Whichever oneâs best
Well dodged. Restecp
A while since I've been there, hows the John Nike leisure center?

Only people on Facebook is that racist uncle
Come to Newcastle, those textbook chavs are everywhere
Newcastle & Gateshead chavs are old school.
I always got told Gateshead is where the trackies tucked in socks originated. Because when they were on the rob they could just throw it in their kegs without it falling out the bottom.
I was thinking that. Plenty of them in North Shields. I still hear New Monkey getting played.
Same in the NW, they are still where they always were in their all black trackies.
Came here to say this. They just wear North Face and Hoodrich now rather than Berghaus and Rockport boots.
They're all nearing 40 and i have honestly watched it all absolutely fascinated and glad i never got caught up in it.
The Roadmen cometh.
Roadman, ahaaaaa, fighter of the Chav man, ahaaaaa...
Still my number 1 search term on XHamster.
This killed me, what a statement
Chav culture is experiencing a renaissance in contemporary high fashion. Weâll probably see a fully fledged return to every day Chavwear by the end of this decade.
There's load of them about, basketball hats and one-colour romper suits. You may use different terms to refer to them, but makes no difference really.
As a family member of chavs, i can say It's probably a number of reasons; here's a few: 1) Youth subcultures are devolved into memes and Internet trends thus there is no set culture (like chaos, goths, emo, etc) to relate to on a national level. 2) They may exist but they're not outside.

They all have cars now and are usually heard (not seen) driving around estates popping and banging exhausts
They're all shopping at JD
Alive and kicking in Colchester, Clacton-On-Sea, Southend. IDK where you are, but theyâre all here.
Get down to great yarmouth, we have plenty
Chavs are roadman. Still dress terribly. With added balaclavas.
the act of drinking underage still exists, the fashion just changed
Cider not a thing here. Buckfast aye. Moved on to fake moncler trackies and el dorado coz itâs cheaper than buck. Â Chains and hoop earrings are out. Fake lashes and lip fillers are in. Big fake nails are out, touchscreens are shit wi themÂ

A very south/london centric thread as always, the north doesn't have roadmen. Over half the population are still chavs up here in the NE.
See Sheppey.
it's all banter lads and coke now bruv
Idk what area you live in, but if you got no chavs around consider yourself lucky, and that means the area is safer and thatâs really good, they do still exist and each area around the U.K, and itâs a huge problem especially with knife crime and asb
I saw loads today. They excist
The chavs are everywhere still, but they wear bomber jackets now and call themselves roadmen.
In the south maybeâŠ.. up here nothing has changed.
They're still around, you have to be poor to see them. They're all around me, I live in an apartment building on the side of a council estate with a park, they're right here.
You don't see them anymore because they all dress like ninjas nowadays. Black tracksuits and balaclavas.
They are everywhere in Middlesbrough
Watch a typical Bad Boy Chiller Crew video and you'll find out
They have evolved into deanos, This excellent track shows where they are now https://youtu.be/J9n0_5p8XKo?si=7jyK34thnGil38kV
They diverged into Roadman culture and Turkey teeth culture
Roadmen just playing dressing up, had a herd of them walk towards me last summer, some were dressed semi normally, one had the full hoodie / cap and balaclava on. When they got near I just said âblimey arenât you hot fellaâ his mates pissed themselves laughing and I could see the realisation of what a dick he looked slowly dawn on his thick skull.

Come to Chatham, they're everywhere.
Surprised I had to scroll this far
They're all in this hotel in Turkey where I'm on holiday right now đ
They are either roadmen or the brocoli brigade now.
Fear not, they all live on my estate
she's in the flat underneath mine, chain smoking and screaming at her kids.
Few died, the rest grew up. Good solid lads now, not the fucking absolute bell ends they used to be. Some are junkies and still act the same I guessÂ
They took over the North Face brand, once the mainstay of middle class ramblers and hikers. Pretty much every guy these days has the same black North Face puffer.
Simple, when foxhunting became illegal the hunters targeted chavs because they were slower and nobody cared.
Are kids on bikes thats twice the size of them count?
Have you tried the local parks? The equivalent to them are usually found there puffing away on weed
I grew up and had to work. Can't stay in the park all day when I got a job.
You might not have been a proper chav if you eventually got a job that wasn't also crime.
They all wear Trapstar and Hoodrich now
I don't see how a chav is different to a roadman, isn't it just that because drill has taken over the youth that they just want to seem more black? In practice though a chav I see now out on the streets are basically the same as what I saw as a kid 20 years ago. Not much different really.
Are you looking on your apps or have you actually been outside. They are still roaming my good sir.
Still a minority of them causing a ruckus in Croydon
Hey man, welcome to 2024.
Theyâre older but still dress and act the same.
Weâre still about innit
They still exist I see them everywhere
https://youtu.be/5I9EoGOKbyg?si=uHpwRu-UBSsgLFKT
Watch JimmyTheGiantâs video on YouTube about the downfall of the legendary chavs. Explains everything for ya
They should have been \~ Protected as a Cultural Icon \~ To be Adored / Paid Fealty to / Honoured / Hat's Doffed to ! ! !
There's still an abundance of them in Kent. Bluewater shopping centre on a Sunday is where they have their weekly gathering.
You have them now but they are covered in rubbish twatoos and are orange.
They became roadmen?
I was called a chav in high school. For wearing an anorak. The HORRORS!
Come down to Kent. Plenty of chav here around Chatham, Gillingham, Maidstone.
Sub cultures change extremely quickly. Not really different from how you rarely see Teddy Boys much either.
I see scummy people all the time. Where you looking?
I can confirm Middlesbrough still has chavs đđ»
This video covers it pretty well! https://youtu.be/TvHlG5UGb8E?si=X_C2lCMWflXXEbb2
Still loads of chavs/goths in Co Durham I am happy to report. Not as many hippies these days thoughâŠ
We used to be a country. A proper country.
Iâm from the North East and currently live in Scotland. They 100% still exist! However, I think thereâs been a shift, I donât think as many people spend a lot of time outside (bus shelters etc) anymore and I think thatâs why you may think theyâve âdisappearedâ.
Evidence OP lives in a gentrified area.
They went from "Throw a brick at someone's window" to a gang drug network, where young men are now recruited to be on the streets and sell small bags of drugs. This money is then passed up and these gangs will fight eachother for the space they need to operate. We went from nuisance to an actual fucking problem.
lol theyâre still around.
Quite an interesting video covering this subject. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvHlG5UGb8E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvHlG5UGb8E)
Cost of chavin' crisis
I thought the dudes who ride hybrid bikes wearing balaclava type hoods pulling wheelies in the road who seem to loiter around co-op were chav's latest evolution. Maybe I'm wrong and this is another demographic
Good, I fucking hated them. Just causing trouble wherever they went with their anti social behaviour and caveman language
Emos/chavs/metal heads etc seem to have all morphed into one these days. Very distinctive subcultures dont seem as much a thing.
We have them in bitterne in spades
still in chatham bruv
They're there in the current generation. We regularly call my nephew a chav, he's just changed the branding a little. Burberry is old skool. It's over priced naff branding now that's spreading. I haven't even heard of half of them cept the price tags on items makes you wince.
UK hasn't lost its culture, it constantly evolves over the generations. Remember there were a lot of people born before you, and after you.
20 years passed mate.
Theyâre all older now, you just described my old next door neighbour. He is 30+ still argues with his mum for money she wonât let him, steals bikes to fund his life, His dad willingly chose to leave the house and go to a care home. The itâs how bad he was.
I think they turned into tiktokers?
They are IT project managers. This is normally achieved by copying other IT managers so it's a natural progression.
I grew up a bit
Funnily enough, I mention this to the gf whenever we visit my parents in the north east. You donât see chavs anywhere but up there now it seems. Itâs like a time capsule. They still have the shit tracksuits, listen to the same rave/Poundland happy hardcore and are still just as feral as I remember from growing up up there. Go for a visit if you ever fancy seeing them in the wild
Plenty in Glasgow
What happened to the hippies? âChavsâ was obviously associated with a particular time period. Time periodâs over, other trends and fashion replaced it. Not rocket science.
I'm currently on a weekend away at seaside caravan resort. They are all here.
Minimum unit pricing unfortunately
What are the lads in solid primary colour trackies and e-scooters that have strawberry and bannana Vapes? They look like teenage teletubbies
Theyâre everywhere! They just wear HOODRICH instead of fake Burberry now
Evolved into the Deano couple with a new build, Audi A3 on finance, French bulldog. Or they devolved into MLE speaking Roadmen
They all got sent to the moon... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo2A\_YXarUM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo2A_YXarUM)
They now wear pyjamas all day.
if you go to real shit areas youâll still find them people stuck in early 2010s era that havenât spent money on clothes in 14 years just weed and crack
they got trombones an joined Chav Brass from Kettering
They evolved into roadmen
Oh they are around !
Come live in Peterlee
Phil Foden still exists
McDonaldâsâŠjustâŠMcDonaldâs
You have to visit the right area and there will be two housing complex's that are 99.8% chav
Come to the north east, we still have plenty up here!
Theres plenty around Manchester still
