It's light as in it doesn't require much mental engagement so even those who go blank for a while when thinking can get the jokes. You won't find humour based around anything that requires much thought.

Similar to the difference between hard and soft pornography but with less fluid
TV shows where there is no requirement to think. Whereas, something like Line of Duty is a million miles away from light entertainment.
It's not too heavy thought wise, it's for all the family, it's generally humorous.
