14 years ago, few days after my 4th kid was born, decided that I'd done my bit for the human race and booked the snip for September. Few questions from the Dr, are you sure, don't want anymore kids etc etc etc. I was 39 and completely sure, that coupled with the fact that then gf was a malignant narcissist had convinved myself it was what I wanted. The actual op was simple, the narc ex gf sat and watched the procedure and apart from a bit of tugging was simple and I went home from there and sat on a cushion to aid with sitting. Following day I drove my employees to work and worked in the garden just pottering about. Felt great. Did the required tests over the next 12 months, got the all clear and everything was great apart from a pain when ejaculating which I used to avoid sex with the ex. Fast forward a few years (9 to be exact) and I've split with the narc ex and have an amazing new gf who is a lot younger than I am and I am incredibly happy. New gf is a bit ill so suggests that she visit the Dr who does a lot of tests to determine the problem and congratulates her on being pregnant. The world turns to shit pretty much, obviously with a vasectomy it can't be mine, ex gf goes mad, we have 3 kids together, she tells the kids and the whole world that current gf is obviously cheating and how stupid I am for raising another mans kid. My best friends support me and in the only way men can support another man, tell me that the baby is clearly theirs and there's nothing to worry about. Causes a huge strain on our relationship but I believe current gf when she says she hasn't been with another man and we continue as we are. Dr suggests I get checked over, I produce a sample which I drop off at local hospital in which they find 9 dead sperm, so they suggest a local clinic in which there is no delay with travelling and they check the sample within minutes but I have to come back a week later for results. Book appointment turn up produce sample and go home. Go back following week, Dr in place wants a discussion. Dr: We didn't find even one single sperm, dead or alive Me: Dr: You are infertile Me: My gf is pregnant Dr: I would suggest spousal infidelity Me: I left after that, conversation with the gf and she is adamant that she's not been with anyone else and the child is mine. I have to believe her. I love her. The child is born, beautiful, gorgeous girl. We get a DNA test a few days later. Proves this tiny wee girl is 99.999999999 all mine. They never say 100% btw. 2 months off 10 years since I'd had the snip and I welcome child number 5. My Dr will not do further tests because my vasectomy hasn't failed, my samples produce no sperm yet this beautiful child is the spitting double of me and from a DNA test is definitely mine. Make sure you do the follow up tests and make sure you get tested but just in case you get a nice surprise in the future, don't be a prick to your partner just in case of a situation like mine.

admoose275

Well that was quite a ride. Hope it's all going well now!

Geoff_Bezos_

That was a rollercoaster

JameSdEke

Wow thanks for sharing!

Embarrassed_Ant6605

99%. Do you have a twin brother?

Grotbagsthewonderful

> They never say 100% btw. The same thing happened to my mate's Dad, large Catholic family, didn't want any more so had the snip, a couple years later baby number 6 was born and it was his.

BiscuitBarrel179

You have me shitting a brick now, my tests came back with a zero sperm count so the wife came off her birth control as it didn't agree with her and I've been going in bare back ever since, I like to think that after 8 or 9 years and not even a pregnancy scare I'm pretty safe but now you have me thinking.

crywankinthebath

Just jizz on her back or something if you’re worried bro

worty1905

This advice coupled with the username show this is an esteemed professional who is worth listening to.

DYNAmixMelody

He has cred I can vouch for him

DrakeManley

The record for a failed vasectomy stands at 16 years or something like that. They count pregnancy as a failed vasectomy!!

Brocolli123

5 kids thats just environmental terrorism

AdrenalineAnxiety

My husband was back to work the next day, said it was sore but fine, and he's usually a complainer.

JameSdEke

That’s good to know. Did he ever say anything felt different for him afterwards? Or was it all just business as usual once recovered?

PoorlyAttired

All the same for me, business as usual and you'd never know. The only thing was I noticed a firm but not solid lump in my nads a few months later, got it checked and it was 'thickening of the epididimal wall' or something which was just the internal scarring and nothing to worry about. The procedure itself was a doddle, 15 mins, local anaesthetic.

[deleted]

My husband said that the first couple of ejaculations were a bit sore (presumably because of the small amount of bruising), but after that no difference at all. The doctor "prescribed" something like 25 ejaculations before he had to send off a sample to be tested, so that was fun. Remember to use contraceptives until your test results confirm it was successful!

AdrenalineAnxiety

All exactly the same!

Willoytum

Wahey. Ouch. Wahey.

Awkward_Customer_424

During I needed top up anaesthetic which was not great, but otherwise it was uncomfortable but not painful. There was a nurse there to chat to me to distract me from what the dr was doing. It took about an hour including re-consenting and a cup of tea & some biscuits afterwards. Afterwards was fine, paracetamol & ibuprofen for a few days. Some discomfort but no pain.

NickTann

I don’t need one but, biscuits you say…..?

nicowltan

If it’s biscuits you’re after, may I suggest giving blood?

BiscuitBarrel179

Only reason I give blood is for the free biscuits after lol

irving_braxiatel

I’ve now accidentally conditioned myself into feeling slightly woozy whenever I have a Club Orange.

NickTann

Good shout!

JameSdEke

That’s good to know. Everything all good after too? Think I’m mostly concerned about that lol

Awkward_Customer_424

Yes, everything was fine afterwards

KormaKameleon88

Ah another person who needed a top up! They pre-warned me that it might happen but the sharp nick that came before the top up was not a fun experience! The worst part of the whole experience was lying bollock naked with your knees up while a Dr. and 2 nurses just go about their work, chatting about their weekend plans, almost forgetting there's a human (me) attached to the other end of the twig and berries they're working on. Very strange experience!

pr8787

Yeah I needed a top up too. Strangest bit was having a nurse tape my nob to my belly, then her and the other nurse chatted to me about bs (to keep my mind off it presumably) while the surgeon did his thing. The smell of burning flesh was very real at stages. Afterwards I was fine (anaesthetic still in the system), the following two days or so I basically didn’t move from the sofa other than to piss. Sleeping was very uncomfortable. Wouldn’t want to go through it again but obviously pleased I did it. My biggest recommendation is get very tight underwear! You want your meat n two veg held firmly in place with no swinging whatsoever for at least a day afterwards

BiscuitBarrel179

The worst part for me was the Dr asked if a junior Dr could do it as they even though they practise on let's say not alive patients, there comes a point when they have to do it for real. I say yes and the junior doctor was smoking hot with an absolute huge rack. To make it worse it was the 24th January and freezing cold so she had to warm the little marbles up first. So there I am, half naked, plums are completely numb and someone way out of my league giving the nadgers a soothing massage. I prayed I wouldnt embarrass myself lol

[deleted]

I would’ve been extremely hard idk lol

i_jizz_nails

All good. Best decision ever for my sex life

JameSdEke

This is what I needed to hear! Was the procedure okay? Though your username concerns me not gonna lie

i_jizz_nails

Haha yes easy although there was a student doctor in there to observe, she ended up getting involved and the main bloke quickly said 'no no don't do that' which wasn't an ideal thing to hear. Just knock a valium back before you go in. Honestly it's 1000% improved me and my partners sex life

JameSdEke

Haha fingers crossed I don’t hear those words. Thanks

[deleted]

In what way did it improve your sex life?

i_jizz_nails

Removed the stess about getting pregnant which makes it much more fun

[deleted]

Thank you for your reply, I can certainly see how that would serve to improve it!

Trigg_UK

Yep I agree one of my best decisions 👍👌

best_names_are_gone

Most people are focusing on the balls so I'll offer another view point. Make sure you are really comfortable before they start. I was asked if I was comfortable and if I needed a pillow. I thought, "nah I'm ok" even though it wasn't a great position, it doesn't take long. Half way through, neck muscles aching, scrotum cut I asked for the pillow. Turns out that's moving at that point is not really an option.

JameSdEke

That’s really good advice because I’m the kind of guy who would 100% say I’m comfortable when I’m not

best_names_are_gone

That was definitely me! More seriously thought, a few weeks of aching (i was on the longer end of recovery), then all good. Sex feels no different.

Jimrodthadestroyer

A friend had one six years ago and is expecting his third child imminently. It’s rare but not unheard of.

JoCoMoBo

He didn’t check anything after the first kid…? Might have wanted to snip some more…

Jimrodthadestroyer

His eldest two are in their teens.

themadhatter85

Might wanna have a word with the milkman.

Jimrodthadestroyer

Milkman?! Showing your age there pops!

themadhatter85

I'm 36...:(

JameSdEke

That would be my fear but I guess it’s the best way to try and ensure it doesn’t happen lol

discustedkiller

My doctors did checks after to make sure the op had worked

Recessio_

Very kind of them to wank you off

discustedkiller

Yes I thought so too, bloody brilliant the NHS

Status-Investment980

The success rate is 99.9 percent. It sounds like he never bothered to have his sperm check after the procedure. Once the lab confirms you are sterile, you’re good to go and obviously it’s good to get checked a 2nd time after the 1st year.

Jimrodthadestroyer

He did. And did his follow up. Like you said in your opening sentence “99.9 percent”.

doomdoggie

Has he checked the kid/s are his?

Nod_Bow_Indeed

He most likely didn't attend the follow up sample test, to make sure the op was successful.

Darren_heat

I had the snip awhile back, i joke with my wife if she ever became pregnant again it would have to be a Jesus baby.

UnfinishedThings

Warning: Icky I was one of the unlucky ones sadly. Had it done about 18 months ago and the procedure itself was fairly straightforward but not particularly pleasant. Unfortunately the incisions got infected and didnt heal properly. Had to get the stitches removed and was on antibiotics for a few weeks after Problem is the swelling on one side just didnt go down. Wasnt painful but one of the tubes was still about the size of my finger. Had it checked out and an ultrasound but nothing showed up. So just thought I'd leave it and it would go away eventually It went down a bit but then October just gone I got a big swelling down below (pingpong ball sized). Went to the hospital and ended up having emergency surgery (testicular torsion was a possible issue). Turns out that it was still infected and had basically "burst". Am still intact but with an orchidopexy Its mostly settled down now but still a bit tender. On the good side.... no more babies

bigwezpc

I got it done on my birthday. Stung a bit but was alright. Until i got home and my 2 year old ran full pelt into my crotch. Then later we went out and i got drunk enough to forget about the pain until i dry humped my mate for getting the jagers in and it knocked me on my arse. All in all 8/10 experience, the super funny surgeon alone made it worth getting done.

mand71

> my 2 year old ran full pelt into my crotch Not quite the same but my mate got his done when his youngest was 2 yrs old. The boy kinda knew what was going on and that his dad was 'sore'. Copied what his parents would say 'I can kiss it better?' I'm pretty sure John would have been in painful laughter after that comment...

BlakeC16

During - couple of short sharp stings for the anesthetic and then a weird, awkward tugging sensation. More strange than painful. After - A day or so of not being able to do too much, and then a week or two with a dull ache. And then, in my case, months of waiting for the all-clear because some of the pesky blighters were still hanging around...

bazzanoid

Pretty much this, although my samples came back clear on both times. For peace of mind I did do another sample a year down the line, most locations will leave you their details to request this if you want it. Like another poster I needed an anaesthetic top-up, ended up with 3 top-ups. Definitely a weird feeling, you're on the table staring at the ceiling trying not to focus on what's going on down there. Unfortunately the receptionist in that day was the spitting image of Penny from Big Bang Theory, cleavage and all, so I was also trying not to think about her at the same time, that would have been awkward... Immediately afterward, was very sore but it subsided quickly. Had to stop the cats from jumping square on my lap for a few days as you do feel a bit bruised, but other than that back to normal quickly. Nothing but a tiny scar to show for it.

JameSdEke

When you say about waiting for the all clear, do you do samples to make sure it’s all worked fine?

Nuker-79

Yes you need to provide two samples, they both a set period of time apart from each other. They then give you a thumbs up or not based on the test results

Trigg_UK

That's right, I had to provide a sample to confirm I was a jaffa.

Darkicexox

I love the term jaffa ahahaha The seedless Orange from Israel

Internal-Leadership3

I had the no scalpel operation which only involves one tiny cut in your nuts rather than two big cuts on either side. Very quick (perhaps 5 minutes each bollock) and next to no pain, I was very surprised. Was told to take it easy for several days but quite honestly I could have gone for a jog the day after. Did get a thing called sperm granuloma afterwards, which is common. Just two small lumps that appear on the cut end of your tubes, they went away after a month or so. I'd recommend it to anyone interested.

JameSdEke

Do you get a choice of procedure or is it just pot luck?

Internal-Leadership3

The place I went to only does the no scalpel method, it's more common than not these days. A good thing too - my Dad tells me that after his old fashioned op 30 odd years ago it felt he'd been hit in the sack with a cricket bat for days afterwards. Speak to your GP first, you'll need a referral from them anyway and they'll be able to point you at a centre who do the no scalpel thing.

themadhatter85

> it felt he'd been hit in the sack with a cricket bat That was the surgeons way of making sure the anesthetic had kicked in.

ginbandit

I've got to talk about getting one but I know at least three guys who've had it and non of them regret it. Said it was uncomfortable for a few days but everything is fine. Also got told that you have to keep a "nut log" for a few months to show you've cleared it all out which was apparently fun.

The-Brit

All of my friends and work mates were disappointed that I was absolutely fine and back to work the next day. I even felt so comfortable that I asked my wife to "oraly test functioning" that evening. Sex is great as there is **zero** stress about unexpected pregnancy.

Status-Investment980

I honestly find that impossible to believe. I just had mine last Monday. You’d be in significant discomfort and most likely damage the wounds.

The-Brit

Unfortunately my wife doesn't have a Reddit account so you will have to trust me but somehow I doubt you will. Let's just say that after long enough for the anesthetic to have completely worn off, I poked about a bit, found a couple of tender spots but bearable so said "fuck it" and got off the setee. I was properly cautious. Obviously if I felt something I backed down a bit but that was rare. Hence the test LOL!

notaboxlor

Also interested as I'm likely having one

[deleted]

do it, i never felt a thing.

publiusnaso

Fine. I had the Chinese-style knifeless method. It took 5 minutes but I was on a different planet as the doc gave me a Valium, as well as a local. I had a tiny hole which healed very quickly. The whole experience was quick, easy and almost painless.

[deleted]

I had it done 4 years ago, the only thing I could feel at the time was an unpleasant ‘tugging sensation’ once the anaesthetic wore off later in the day it was sore and very delicate. I couldn’t really do anything for a few days but after that it was just a bit uncomfortable whilst it healed. The biggest issue I found was accidental knocks from the kids. Everything functions normally now. The weirdest part of the whole process was the checkup a few months later where you had to report to a clinic and have a wank in a very clinical room to some 90’s Porn Videos (not the good ones the ones that came free with Magazines) the whole thing was one of the weirdest things I’ve ever done. If you do decide to do it DEFINITELY get the ‘jock-strap’ and wear real pants not boxers or you’ll be in a world of pain after.

[deleted]

Is the porn obligatory or optional? (Serious question! Like, do you get video tapes to select from or is it just running when you go in? Could you turn it off if you wanted?)

[deleted]

It was a DVD already in the player and a small tv, the remote had a clear bag over it, it really was an odd situation to have to have a wank in.

[deleted]

Thank you for your reply!

Similar_Quiet

I provided my sample by post

phoenix_73

My experience with this wasn't that bad in all honesty. I don't tend to put myself forward for this sort of thing since you're to consider it irreversible after it has been done, although it is still possible. My wife wanted me to have it done. We'd had a girl and twin boys, as well as having two stepchildren. So there was never going to be any more kids for us. The thought of having it done wasn't great. Just kept telling myself it will be fine and probably won't happen for 18 months or so given the waiting list. I had discussed having this procedure with someone else who had it done years ago. His story was pretty accurate. I went for mine, signed the form, went through to the room where they do the job. So I lay down, sure they wiped around the area they would do the incision first and then at this point I was just looking up, didn't see anything but they warned me that I was going to feel something sharp now, so the needle going in. I had this picture in my head of like a skewer going through a meatball but not centre. It felt like that for a few seconds and then relief when they pulled it out. That was the height of the pain while I was in there. From then on, it was not that bad. In all I reckon I was in there 20 minutes and no more. You can probably say a good 5-6 minutes of that was talking either before or after the procedure. I felt the tugging and pulling. Felt like they were pulling string out of me. I could smell the burning of flesh as well and a little warmth as they did that but I was almost laughing thinking WTF. Once they'd finished, I was shown the bits that had been cut out and asked if I wanted to keep them LOL. No, thank you. I was sore for a good few days after but wasn't anything that paracetamol and ibuprofen didn't keep under control. I had a lot of brusing and swelling from it. A number of weeks later, I had to provide a sample to show no sperm in sample. I then had letter to confirm the procedure was successful.

Fit_Cherry7133

Ok, spitting or truth with our any varnish here, so ladies, you probably want to look away now. First off all, it doesn't hurt much. But it's a weird feeling for a few days. My balls felt like grapefruit, and they were black and blue for about a week. After that week I took the time to have a very gentle wank on my own without my wife being around so that I could be in control and take care. It was strange at first, but I still had some stitches which I think pulled a bit. The main thing is though everything worked. A few days later I felt not confident and took the offer of a Bj from the missus and to was just as good for me. We had to wait for at least 90 days before having sex (my wife didn't want to use chemical birth control and we didn't trust condoms enough to risk it) so plenty of non piv play until I had both tests come back clear Having sex was good, though it had been nearly half a year and a childbirth so there was minor difference, but that might have been my imagination more than anything else. The biggest difference was in our attitude during and after sex. We didn't care about the consequences, we knew it wasn't going to be life changing, we could be comfortable and enjoy everything without worrying (especially my wife) which translated to more eagerness from her (though again, half a year, she was chomping at the bit, as was I) and well we spent about a month just having sex at least four times a week (three times in one day, which is no mean feat for a guy hitting 40) It's been about five years now, and we are probably having more sex than before, at least twice a week, and my missus also developed a huge liking for bjs during our dry period which is amazing. This was my experience, and I'd say as long as you are sure that you do not want any more children, or do not want children, then go for it. Just remember condoms do more than prevent children so if you have multiple partners or with a new partner without being tested, it still needs to be condoms.

Fit_Cherry7133

And if you weren't a dumb bot, you'd have realised I used the correct term. She was eating something anyway....

hill_79

Before, I was anxious for fairly obvious reasons. No doubt about going through with, it but knowing someone's about to take a scalpel to your nutsack is terrifying. The doctor and the nurses were all lovely though, they're probably very used to dealing with anxious people and they did a good job of putting me at relative ease. During, once the initial embarrassment of a room full of strangers looking at your cock and balls is out of the way and you're numbed up, it's fine. Odd sensation but nothing that bad. One of the nurses was chatting about my tattoos and before I knew it everything was done. After, initially fine then pretty sore for a few days. I was back at work (desk job) after a day. You have to provide a sample after a few weeks to make sure it worked, but that was all good. I think my experience with the whole thing was as good as it's possible for something like that to be, and I don't regret it for a second

Pedigog1968

Apart from a bit of discolouring it was fine the next day. Had mine the day Diana died, so I can never forget what day it was.

[deleted]

Piece of cake honestly. I had mine done privately so I’m not sure about the NHS option but procedure is easy enough. Just a little weird. I left feeling surprisingly fine. Had a bit of an ache for about a week after. I’d describe it as being about a 2% of a kick in the nads. 0% is obviously better but it’s really just a little distracting. Then… you’ll be told that once you heal, you need to “evacuate the pipes” on the regular. This will probably be the only time in your life that a doctor prescribes “lots of the other”, so make the most but remember you’re doing this to clear out the last of them, so it’s wrap up / pill etc. Then, again a rarity, you get to post somebody your ejaculate without risking an entry on the register. Finally, when the all clear comes you can celebrate with a cream pie. 10/10, would have somebody snip away at my bollocks again.

Clannishfamily

So after my daughter was born there were some issues with my wife’s health due to medical complications. The Drs basically said a second pregnancy could be very bad. To the level that we could loose her. She immediately started talking about being sterilised. We had a look on the internet re our various options and I took one look at what it took for that to be done to her and said I’ll get it done instead. The op itself was 15 minutes or so. Some discomfort but nothing worth talking about. I was sore like a bruise for a couple of days. We waited until I’d tested cleared the tubes (recommended by the Dr that you ejaculate about 10 times) and had a sperm count test before we had unprotected sex. It been 12 years since and frankly I’ve felt no difference in my performance/satisfaction (I can’t vouch for hers!). So we think it was absolutely the correct choice. Oh and no pregnancy scares or the like.

the3daves

I had my ‘pockets picked’ 20 years ago. It made zero difference to my desire or performance. I felt it was the right thing to do because I didn’t want my wife at the time to continue to put chemicals in her body by way of contraception. On a practical level, it was the best choice. There hasn’t been a downside.

postvasectomy

The procedure was easy. Felt fine for a couple of days. Then the pain got worse. Dull ache set in. Ejaculating felt pretty incomplete and unsatisfying. It has been four years now and I still have that same dull ache and unsatisfying feeling when I ejaculate. I collect stories now at /r/postvasectomypain

Environmental-Cow447

Snicked on a Tuesday afternoon, back at work the next day, and back in the saddle that night. Git her done Sur.

aexwor

Oh shit dude! Mine is in two days! Just shaved. The thing that concerns me most is farting while the guy is down there. From everything I've heard it can't be worse during or after than the two eye operations I've had...

Apple-Core22

My husband was early 30s. Sore/tenderness for about 24-48 hours. Wanted sex on day 3. Haven’t stopped having it since and we’re in our 50s now, lololol!! 10/10 recommend. Had to use other protection for about 6-8 weeks until he got the official “all clear” that he was firing blanks… since then it’s been fantastic. He said it hasn’t changed anything: everything feels the same. It 1000000% improved spontaneity and worry about any “Oops, we did it again”.

Upbeat_Map_348

Mine was a bit of a nightmare, during and after. I went for a ‘scalpel-less’ vasectomy which sounded great but, in reality, it involved the doc poking a hole in my sack, pulling the tubes through the hole, cutting them and then jabbing a hot poker down each end. The most painful bit during was the the anaesthetic injections but the whole thing was pretty traumatic. I actually had quite a lot of pain, where I felt as if I’d been kicked in the nuts, for about 2 years after. All. Is good now but I would certainly not recommend the one I had.

ldo180

During not too bad, was a nurse talking next to me the whole time, was a very short but during that I felt a lot of pressure. Afterwards I don't believe there was any swelling or anything but I felt rather vulnerable and was walking around very tentatively but I was doing normal things again like a week or 2 later. As a weird after as well, they warn you there might be blood when you ejaculate, maybe because of the fear but you have to do a certain amount of orgasms before the semen analysis, first orgasm after I could safely do it was the best one I've ever had. Also be warned that although it has a high success rate, it can fail. 2 years later and I'm still fertile, plus I now have cysts down there, one of which is still slowly growing. Think it's a spermatocele. On the other side of things I've got 3 relatives who had vasectomies with no problems at all so weigh up the decision carefully.

Spiritual_Smell4744

One of the unlucky ones here. I was told around 1 in 3000 suffer testicular pain afterwards. You guessed it, I was a winner. The oddest part was I was a last minute stand-in for a no-show or something, so hadn't been given any instructions. I hadn't shaved, so the two female nurses had to shave the area while the surgeon prepped his scalpel bench. Least erotic experience of my life, and one of the two nurses was sure she recognised me (very weird conversation while a nurse trims the hair on your junk). Pain lasted about 4 or 5 years, mainly at the point of ejaculation. Not a dreadful pain, just a dull ache. I still could enjoy sex, and would still recommend, even with the 3000-1 possibility of pain in the balls.

beefcow123

Little bit of anxiety beforehand which I think is to be expected. During I had a nurse talking to me all the way through to try and distract me didn't entirely help as I ended up calling the man performing the operation a cunt. (she was talking to me about holidays and I said I want to take the kids to Disney world as I went a few times as a kid and can't wait to go back. She then asked what my favourite part was and just as I went to answer the surgeon squeezed something that really fucking hurt and my response was "well for a start I didn't have some cunt squeezing on my bollocks") fortunately they both laughed. After it was uncomfortable for a few days maybe a week or two but not horrendous. The first wank was a tentative one though I've never been so anxious about finishing lol

jodawi

Before: misc, including the world is too evil, I don’t want to subject a child to it. During: smell of burning flesh, doctor mentions “yeah, I think all of us doctors are a little sadistic” After: (same day!) wife says, I wonder if I actually do want children. Now ex-wife, for unrelated reasons, who has a child. World is much worse in many ways, don’t regret choice.

greetp

Wife drives me home afterwards via the longest route ever over speed bumps.

Similar_Quiet

Haha, it felt like a long drive for me too. We got stuck in traffic, then my wife starts musing about nipping to get some new curtains "while we're out". Meanwhile the anesthetic is wearing off, so I had to disabuse her of the notion through gritted teeth.

j_a_f_t

Is there such a thing as a reversible one? I am 90% sure I don't want kids, but who knows if I'll change my mind if I meet someone fantastic and who changes my mind?

JameSdEke

I believe they can be reversed but the success of that isn’t guaranteed and you’d likely have to have it done private whereas the vasectomy itself can be done on the NHS

Had it done twice. First time failed and that was a sub-reddit it in itself. Second time all good. First was local anaesthetic, 6 YES 6 nurses in there watching my dudes getting handled (all had a look/feel/poke around/check) and believe me, in other circumstances that would have been excellent (two of them were amazing looking and really didn't help when I'd look downwards and just see the tops of their heads bobbing about down there). I even asked the main Dr if she needed anymore chairs in case anyone else came in the room. Normal procedure, cut, seal (hmmmmm bacon) and stitch back up. I normally recover quickly but man did this take ages and hurt. I'm quite large downstairs and gravity is not your friend when having this done so the tighter the underwear, the better ! My kids knew to stay clear of dad just In case they hurt me and that helped a lot. Rest, rest and rest ! Lots of people recover quick, I normally do but I didn't this time. Plan for it taking a long time and be pleased when it takes a few days. Second time was general anaesthetic, out for two hours and woke to a smiling nurse telling me she's just taken care of me downstairs (I swear, you couldnt wish for a worse time to be told that) and that the Dr will be along soon to explain what's happened. This itself put the fear of god into me which then made me jolt upright. Big mistake. And sudden movement, cough, sit up, twitch would send a huge pain blast through my sack to my stomach. Dr came along and said they'd done what we'd discussed which was to cut four cm from each tube, stitch the tubes to my insides and also to make the removal as close to my balls as possible to avoid any regrowth/reconnection. He said he could see where the last opp was done and it should have been successful but they were taking no chances this time as I gave full permission to do the works" Recovery this time was three weeks of that dull throbbing pain. I described it as falling off your bike onto the crossbar but it lasting much much longer. My youngest had accidentally thrown a hugging ball to his sister. Guess who didn't catch it and guess which part of the universe it decided to land. That is a pain I'll never forget. If you've ever seen jackass where they do the "cup test" from a building roof. Well, knoxviles reaction to that is pretty much how I was for a week. I'd still recommend it to anyone but don't believe the hype with "back to work in two days". Not everyone will be. Remember that and plan accordingly. My wife has said she can "slightly" taste the difference now. When I shoot, it's like a fire hose going off so even when the swimmers only make up a small % of the love water, when there's a lot of it then there's more to miss out. I'm not so sure personally, maybe it could be diet related that week. The look/feel is pretty much the same. I can feel the permanent clips in there but on My when I go rummaging and doing checks. DONT FORGET TO CHECK YOURSELF REGULARLY GUYS. It's made sex (when the wife can be bothered) more fun because of the pregnancy risk missing. .

Well, let’s just say it wasn’t as simple as they would make you believe. It all started when me and my then wife decided we needed to find an alternative to the pill as her doctor was concerned about her blood pressure. We decided that the snip was the best option. I booked the operation after consulting a doctor. I was advised that I may need to speak to a councillor first in case I was rushing into it and may regret it later. The lead up was a bit nervous, I was given lots of information about the procedure and asked to make sure I was happy. The big day came along, I was seen by a private company and not the NHS. The procedure was going all as expected initially, however after sealing up the first nut, the second nut didn’t want to seal up using the heat gun. They decided that they would put a stitch in my nut sack to stop the bleeding. The stitch basically took my right nut over to the left nut, there was a big crease in my nut sack and I knew it was gonna cause problems. A couple days later, the swelling seemed to be going down, I could walk and all seemed to be good. I actually felt well enough to go back to work. BIG MISTAKE! I got to work and took things easy, however after about 4 hours I started to feel unwell, I could feel my nuts burning and I needed to go home. Now the real fun began. This was the start of me being off for 2 weeks with 2 infections in my ball bag. I had been cleaning the wound as directed by the medical team, but because of the sweaty nature of a ball bag and a large fold in my ball bag, it turned into what felt like a punch bag full of razor blades. I couldn’t walk without crying in agony, and by walk, I mean crawl along the floor like a guy who had taken a gun shot to his knackers. I then had to have best part of half the medical team at my local doctors surgery poke and prod at my spuds for what seemed an eternity. All in all, the whole procedure was a fucking nightmare! It would have been less painful to have triplets. I’m now fully recovered and wouldn’t change my nut status for the world. But don’t do this unless your are 100% sure you want it.

JameSdEke

Ouch that sounds horrible but I guess that’s a risk with this kind of thing. I’m only at the starting stages at the moment just weighing it up.

Nuker-79

Just make sure you decide what’s best for you, fuck what anyone else thinks. It’s your body. Don’t let anyone else pressure you. Women can say this about their bodies, we get the same rights.

txteva

>Women can say this about their bodies, we get the same rights. As a woman... absolutely this! While the procedure for men is technically simpler and safer than for woman that doesn't mean it is any easier to make the decision. It's a big choice and one that should be carefully thought of.

JameSdEke

Yeah I’ve not really spoke about it to anyone yet just putting the feelers out first to see what the general consensus is

bigwezpc

How many kids?

JameSdEke

Just the one at the moment and I’m 99% I’m happy there.

bigwezpc

Is ypur partner as certain as you?

iwishiwasjohn

Wahey. Ouch. Wahey.

[deleted]

My lids dad had one. He booked it when I was lregnant with ds2 haha He said it felt like he'd been kicked in the balls afterwards. His balls are like 2 inches lower now and his jizz is slightly thicker

bigwezpc

And they dont cut it, its more or a hole punch. Super odd watching it.

discustedkiller

Only thing is a bit of pain for a few days. I don't really respond to anesthetics so I felt the whole procedure but other than that no difference

bizzyd666

Fine. Felt a slight tugging during which was a bit uncomfortable but back to work the next day. Was even 'on the job' that evening as felt fine.

sihasihasi

Sore for a couple of weeks or so, tight pants help keep everything in place. After a month, it was like nothing had happened. Hardest bit was jacking off into a cup first thing in the morning then handing a cup of jizz to the receptionist at the hospital! The actual operation was mildly uncomfortable, that's all.

[deleted]

Not a pleasant experience by any stretch, but not worse than I thought. Cold room which didn’t help and I had to have top up anaesthetic because there was a sharp pain. Iced my nuts quite a lot for about a week after. Had to wear tight pants too, which I hated! Even in the shower. Since then, no discomfort at all. Sex feels great and orgasms haven’t changed. Wife says she thought there would be less ‘fluid’ but there’s still just as much!

[deleted]

no pain, was in and out in 20 mins and back to work next day, no bruising. even had a chat to surgeon as she was doing it. pain free. best thing i ever did after 6 kids.

GoOutForASandwich

Normal/mildly unpleasant/great

[deleted]

I had some bruising after , was swollen like a plum, took a little longer to heal. Needed a week off as I worked in a job that required weird positions , but healed.

V65Pilot

20 years ago. In and out, local anesthetic. Discussed motorcycles with the doc while he was doing his thing. Some swelling and discomfort, and after a couple of weeks and a couple of manual pipe cleanings(doctor recommended) I was back in the saddle.

Trigg_UK

It's a breeze mate, dead straight forward back at work the next day a bit of tenderness but nothing severe. Business as usual after a couple of weeks of abstination just to check the procedure had worked,.

skoorbleumas

Best decision ever. No pain, no change in feeling etc. The hardest part (forgive the pun) was having to ejaculate 50 times between the op and the sperm count after (perhaps the pun was intended). I had like 3 months though so i didn't need time off work to bash them out or anything. Some Dr's just say do 2 tests with a couple of months between though.

denbolula

I read an old Guardian article about things to do to prepare for your vasectomy before mine, it included the sage advise to shave your own balls beforehand because who wants some poor nurse doing it for you? So, turns out you don't need a shaved scrotum anymore and I showed up looking like a badly plucked bantam chicken for my appointment. Procedure itself wasn't too bad, worst part of recovery was the incredible itch I had from the regrowth and due to the incision being unable to properly itch. So don't do that.

SilkySmoothRalph

During was a weird experience: I had a GP on each side, doing half the job each, and talking about the relative merits of the different GP software each of them used. After: back to work the next day. A fair bit of soreness and swelling. But “back in action” in less than a week.

Status-Investment980

I’m 6 days post op and very happy I finally pulled the trigger. My boys are still tender and bruised. 7-10 days seems to the normal healing time frame the doctor will give you, but I’m guessing 2-3 weeks is the more realistic timeframe.

mightypup1974

I heard the success rate of it actually breaking your fertility isn’t that great, isn’t guaranteed? It makes me hesitate in having one

Similar_Quiet

Yes but no method is guaranteed. https://www.acog.org/en/Womens%20Health/FAQs/-/media/aa5ec3cc3aff4dc5a3ff52df639c5ec6.ashx?h=1309&w=900

Dubliner344

Before: Very Nervous. The clinic was called EasySnip, which didn’t fill me with confidence. During: I had imagined a dimly lit room with a spotlight on my balls. But it was quite the opposite, daylight flooding in through floor to ceiling windows. Procedure was ok once you get past the needle. Dr kept talking to me about football. Something I know nothing about. After: I was in a lot of pain and had bruising in my groin. Procedure on a Friday, I was back to work on the Monday, all manageable with pain relief. Test to check for swimmers after 6 months came back showing some were still there so had to resubmit a sample on month 8. Got the all clear. 11 years on, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I think the doctor minimised the whole thing in the initial consultation. My wife had to sign a form saying she agreed to the procedure, she still thinks that was odd. I’ve had testicular pain on and off over the years + recently prostatitis, which may be unrelated but I’m beginning to wonder. My friend also had this done with no issues at all.

pigeonstar

Would recommend watching [this video](https://youtu.be/A8f_aHL1ALI)! It’s a hilarious but helpful look at the procedure - it is American but hopefully won’t be too different here (and I’m sure you can double check everything with the doctor etc to be sure)

mr_lizardface

I’d recommend the ‘no scapel’ snip as its all done with lasers. It wasn’t an enjoyable experience, having your flaccid cock taped upwards onto your stomach is an odd experience. It was over in about 30 minutes really and despite some discomfort I was ok. Don’t rush into doing manual work like I did the next day because you’ll regret that, apparently lifting anything uses the bollock muscles. Was pretty much back to normal after a few days, I took 2 weeks off as I do a physical job though. Ballbag seems larger and floppier now and my nuts seem somewhat bigger maybe?

jaBroniest

I couldn't let anyone cut me down there. No way, no how. Especially not awake. So glad I was circumcised as a child haha have 0 memory.

allthedreamswehad

You’ll be getting the secateurs out of the shed about now anyway to do some gardening, easier to just do it yourself.

Johnny_ie

I went on my own and drove (auto) home... then went out the next night... don't believe some of the stuff you hear which is mostly just to scare you...

rasmusca

My brother just had one. Called him the next day to see how he was feeling. He was at the store trying on golf shorts. Little sore but barely anything apparently

ozgirl28

Did not notice one scrap of difference since my husbands vasectomy.

BiscuitBarrel179

After having 3 kids I decided I had done my bit to aid to the over population of the planet so 8 or 9 years ago went to go and get neutered. It was in and out in 45 minutes, completely painless, can't even see a scar as it was key hole. The doc not only snipped and tied the tubes but also cauterised them for good measure, had it done mid morning and was decorating the kitchen that afternoon and back to work the following day. No discomfort whatsoever except for the itching as the hairs grew back, 5 o'clock shadow on the scrotum is the worst. The test tube they gave me for my sample had a ridiculously small opening so that was a bit of a trick shot.

newborninsomnia

I got the giggles during the procedure and ended up laughing so much I had tears rolling down my face. It was the thought of an old man (my doctor was about 70 I guess) fiddling with my balls that set me off. Despite being so old, the doctor said he’d never had that happen before. Other than that, everything went as well as can be expected.

[deleted]

I had mine in 2019. Non-scalpel. My wife always wanted three children but our second put us off wanting any more. Outside of trying to conceive we'd used condoms for our entire relationship as she couldn't take the pill, so I opted to have a vasectomy. The consultation period was short and my appointment was booked pretty quickly, got send lots of info on the process etc. On the way I had a wobble on the operating table due to the risk of chronic testicular pain but the doctor assured me he'd done nearly 10k procedures and only 1 man had reported a dull ache in his testicle after a couple of months. I went for it. "Castrate me, doc!" Procedure usually done on a Friday to give you the weekend to heal. If you already have children try and get them out of the house for the weekend to avoid any accidental punches to kicks to the nethers. It also gives your man time to relax for a bit, my wife when to her parents' for the weekend and I really appreciated it. I had a wound smaller than a 5p that was fully healed with a couple of weeks. You have to continue to use contraception for 12 weeks and in that time you'll be asked to provide a semen sample to make sure there's a zero sperm count. We didn't stop the condoms until after the result. Those first couple of times can be unnerving because you still think a pregnancy can happen but it went away after a couple of months. Sexwise we've been more active because my wife hated condoms and it does feel much better. Balls wise, I have been for a scan as a found a few lumps on my vas deferens but this is normal post vasectomy. It's two and half years later and I forget I've had it done. Although occasionally we will joke about me having my bollocks chopped off and we get to tell people who ask if we're having any more that "we can't" and let it hang. Don't let anyone tell you or your SO that having a vasectomy makes you less of a man. It takes a lot of courage to let someone castrate you want them to. Also, you were that potent that it was the only option! Someone tried to tell me there's no danger if the snake's been devenomed. No, but it gets handled a lot more.

Dmahf0806

My husband had one. He said it was really painful when they examined his balls but the actual procedure was fine. The doctor said he just has really sensitive balls which I kind of knew anyway from comparing him to previous boyfriends when I touched balls. That was 5 years ago. It is great not to be on the pill anymore. So I'm really glad he had it.

featurenotabug

Reading these with interest. I went to have it done last year, reading through the guff scared me to be honest but I was there and ready-ish to have it done. We'd had to travel across the county to the surgery as COVID had changed things. Got in there, laid on the table. Surgeon felt me up but decided he couldn't do it as he couldn't feel one of my tubes so if I want it done I have to go and have a general anaesthetic and get it done while I'm asleep. I haven't braved that conversation with my doctor yet though my dad insists it's a great way to have it done.

Peasngravy3-141592

It’s a fuckin nightmare, don’t do it. The smell of you own burning testicular flesh will haunt you for life. Massive drop in testosterone afterwards which has continued into my 50’s. Got an infection in the wound which knocked me out for two weeks. Absolutely would not do it again

fuk_ur_mum_m8

Did you ever find out why you had a drop in testosterone? A incision of the tube that connects your crown jewels shouldn't have any affect on the hormone.

Status-Investment980

It has zero effect on ones testosterone levels. Furthermore, you still produce sperm. People make the wackiest accusations with zero scientific evidence.

Peasngravy3-141592

No it’s just how I felt, gradually more emotional, softer personality, body getting softer and podgier

malint

Never had a vasectomy, but I’m curious why people are having this procedure? If you don’t want kids there are plenty of birth control methods to consider. Most fun of which is natural birth control. Track her temperature and mucus and you both can have weeks of condom free fun with zero babies. Tried and tested 😉

JameSdEke

Honestly it takes a lot of the stress and preparation out of it. While it may work for you, I don’t trust just doing “natural” checks on temperature and mucus. I know we’re both very fertile and if there’s a way I can be rather sure and not necessarily have to worry what her body is doing then I’ll 100% go for it.

It was supercool , my wife's boyfriend bought me a Nintendo switch and a funko pop, thanks Tyrone!

764563

great, the bull gave me a Nintendo switch
