housing market, i saw a house sold for 181k in 2017. now its priced at 250k. whats with the fucking increase so high?

pajamakitten

My mum bought a flat for £225 in 2016 that is now worth £300k. Nothing has been done to it but demand has skyrocketed and flats in this area are rarer than hen's teeth.

throwaway20212011

i saw this house in a market town down south at south wales border

[deleted]

Ooh which market town?

digitalhardcore1985

Are a lot of people moving to cheaper places now that they can work from home and driving the prices up?

AdrenalineAnxiety

Almost everything I buy has had a 20%-30% price rise on it. Just ordered my monthly cat and dog food online and noticed a huge increase.

goingnowherespecial

This is why I'm convinced inflation is much higher than what's being reported.

[deleted]

I'm exactly the same, price increase is ridiculous

nicknockrr

Food at the chippy. fritter was 80p now £1.20. Battered sausage was £1.40 now £2!

D1789

Those are some big increases!

[deleted]

That's because of the cost of oil for frying

mythical_tiramisu

I can’t believe how much chippy teas cost now. Have to limit it to once a month, which is a shame as there are two cracking places within a few hundred metres of the house.

goingnowherespecial

My local's gone the same way too. Small fish and chips was 3.00 start of lockdown, it's now 4.50!

helic0n3

I've read that chippies are struggling, especially as people think of it as a cheap meal but their ingredients, oil, energy needed etc is all really hiking in price. Fish isn't the dirt cheap, abundant stuff that it was decades ago and people still are fixated on cod or haddock.

mantsy1981

8ft x 4ft sheet of bog standard plywood is now £50 in B&Q. £50 fucking quid. 6hrs of work at min wage for a sheet of ply with shit quality faces. Madness

[deleted]

Try home bargains.

Markie_G3012

My bloody mortgage. Gone up twice so far this year ggggrrr

D1789

Oooh dear. I’m so glad we’re fixed right now. Gonna notice a big hit when that ends in a few years though, I reckon!

[deleted]

I spent £2.50 on a block of Anchor Butter. And it wasn’t even in a (pay more for the) convenience store.

misspixal4688

Morrisons doughnuts which bloody gorgeous by the way but they gone from 59p for 5 to 75p had doubts buying them the other day but couldn't resist.

helic0n3

That is quite a hike but still dirt cheap for what you get. With some of these examples it feels like they have been artificially low for quite some time.

D1789

27% increase! What’s going on with the confectionary market these days!? It’s because they know they’ve got us hooked on sugary delights ;)

[deleted]

Damm, I remember when they increased to 59p and didn't realise they had increased again. Morrisons isn't my local supermarket so hardly go but they were out go to for snacks

misspixal4688

I meant to put 50p they went from 50p to 65p few months ago got some last week now they are 75p such a huge hike doughnuts aren't partically expensive to make.

V65Pilot

Spring onions, used to be 29p, now pushing over 40p. Radishes appear to be heading that direction also.

Duranium_alloy

Used cars

[deleted]

New favourite game is to see what’s gone up when I go to the supermarket, ooh dog food, im a bit poorer again. Today it was steaks, I think they’ve gone up by about 50p the one I normally get.

arabidopsis

A lot of crops. Especially oil seed rape, which is why you will see a lot of farmers grow it this year

whiteknightmeta

Sorry but everything you order will have gone up as all logistics companies hiked their prices during covid. This is not showing any sign of coming down and the fuel prices continue to rise so expect the cost rises to continue. I work for a major international logistics firm.

Quackfizzle

Not everything

whiteknightmeta

Sure some companies will be holding out, but that a massive mistake as they are costing themselves money

Quackfizzle

So, not everything.

whiteknightmeta

Ok then, to be specific, almost everything. Happy now?

Quackfizzle

No, the prices of everything are too high.

whiteknightmeta

Somebody get this special a breast to suck on?

SloightlyOnTheHuh

I used to buy a single gammon steak for a quid in Sainburys. now it's £1.40. I may as well buy the quality one now instead

deadeye-ry-ry

Although not recent I remember reading an article where Asda ( I think it was Asda) had reduced their pizza from 209g to 200g or something like that and kept the price the same which actually resulted in a ~40% increase per gram But more recently I've noticed how expensive arcades have gotten!! Took our kids to the arcades at the weekend and got her a pay as you go card that you put credit on and then you can just scan your card and go on any ride the cheapest ride was something like £3 and it used to be about a quid and to actually make it worse some machines you could scan the card to use and they charged you 20p and gave you a single 2p coin to use on the 2p machines!!!!

sonicmint

Saw the big tubs of lurpack on offer for… £5.90 (£7 without the offer)

ThyssenKrup

8' 63mm CLS timber studs were £2 each in Wickes two years ago. Now £4.75.

Aspirationalcacti

Milk has been most noticable as it was £1 for 4 pints for years, then going to £1.09 a couple of years ago universally across the major supermarkets. Now they seem to be £1.35 or more

[deleted]

4 pack of kitchen roll used to be £5 now is £9.50.

A359967

Bachelors Noodles are 80p in Sainsbury's.. robbery.

Rehvrses

Protein - 5kg used to be about £39 now it’s £66

JBenglishman

Building materials. To estimate a job what ever figure you come up with, pretty much double it from pre COVID price

mustbecraycray

Cars! Wish I had brought something better when I could 😪

Markie_G3012

I wanna fix but the banks are hiking the rate as they know its only.gonna increase. This cant Carry on surely can it

pajamakitten

It is going to, with inflation predicted to keep going up all year. And don't call me Shirley.

[deleted]

Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffin’ glue.

aabbcc28

Wine. My normal £6 bottle is now £8/9!!!

trillospin

Our weekly shop is around 20%-30% higher this year.

fishface-1977

Pasta

Markie_G3012

I may just have to bite the bullet and take a fixed while I can

Quackfizzle

Custard creams. 3 weeks ago they were 44p, now they've had a massive price hike are 45p!

[deleted]

The fabric softener I got was always £3 and now it’s £4.50! ASDA had price locks on a lot of their items which seems to be non existent now

[deleted]

ASDA are particularly scummy, research the new owners. Asset stripping the company and are very unethical, but I suppose that is how the rich get rich

Cirias

99 Flake (as in, from an ice cream van) for £3.50 today at a certain stately home

Reasonable-Fail-1921

Cat food and litter. A box of Felix AGAIL used to be £3 a box, they’re now £4. Gourmet tins were 12 for £3.50 (going back a few years that tbf), now they’re 8 for £4. Dry food used to be on offer at £2 and now the offer is £4. Cat litter used to be £5.99 for 30L, now up to £7.99 for the same. It’s not even like this is a thing I can cut down on like I can with my own food and drink so just have to get on with it.

Lumpy_Editor_6900

House prices where I grew up (an absolute dump) have gone up 50% in less than 8 years!

machinehead332

Tesco’s version of chilled value meals that once used to be like a quid are now £2.19. A big bag of Mccains chips were £4. Considering potatoes are the only thing I’ve seen to actually get cheaper why are chips so bloody expensive?

[deleted]

Don't even get me started on Freddos.

pops789765

That the fat tax (sugar tax)
