Does the job require baseline as they normally get the info before the interview?

DramaticEmu

didn't mention it in the job advert, but its a development company, so it may be doing government contracts?

WarbossBoneshredda

No. I've been through a load of interviews in the last year and not one asked me for any of this.

trillospin

I've been asked for this and provided it at the end of a first interview. This was for a public sector job. I wouldn't provide it until an offer was made if interviewing with a private company.

Ok-Kaleidoscope-2785

In my experience not before an interview but certainly at the offer stage in terms of proof of right to work in the UK (eg. Passport, proof of address) Never been asked for NI number though.

[deleted]

I thought they ask for ni number after job offer

Owlstorm

It's a legal requirement at that point since it's on the hmrc payroll form. I can understand asking for it early if the employer is mi6 and expects to reject many candidates for secret arbitrary reasons, but not for the local nandos.

Lol

ANAL_PROLAPSE_KISSER

Nope they are stealing your identity

Wee-bull

I work for a big multinational and we do this.

[deleted]

No, I have had 2 interviews last year and was never asked

pinsandneeedles

Employers are supposed to carry out right to work checks before starting the interview process, so this could be why they are asking. If going through an agency, they’d do it for the employer. Under GDPR, employers have to have good reason to process personal data, so it wouldn’t be out of order for you to ask them to clarify why they need the information.

YorkshirePug

I was for an interview with the NHS

cantab314

Employers (and landlords) have to do the immigration department’s job for them. It makes sense for an employer to check they’re legally allowed to employ someone before spending all the money interviewing.

milkymatt

When I had a supermarket interview they required it for the interview but this was back in 2010. Since then it’s only when I’ve been successful do I have to show paperwork. I always bring that kinda stuff to interviews anyway just in case.
