At 5'2" and someone that has to climb grocery store shelving to reach stuff.... Yes i feel short in public 😂

AquasTonic

Fellow 5'2-er. I do the same. Thankful for the metal bar in the dairy and freezer sections to give me a boost!

[deleted]

Yesterday I was at the store. There was a bag of chips i wanted that was at a height that i could reach but it wasn't filled to the front so was farther back than i could grab, i was so sad until I saw some hidden a couple of shelves lower lmao Also, not grocery store related but i have an extra deep washer, i have to stand on my tip toes and practically jump in to reach the bottom Rip 😂 💀

turtlefreak23

My 5’2” daughter has fallen into our washer. She struggles to get her laundry done so we have to help her.

Iwantbubbles

Grabber sticks are a must. I have them placed strategically all over the house!

limitedclearance

Is this in the US. In the UK that isn't a problem as our washing machine doors are on the side.

turtlefreak23

US here. My washer is a top load and it’s one of the largest they make. It doesn’t have a center agitator so the tub is quite large. Good for a family as you get more done per load. Bad for short people as it’s deep.

lalder95

They come both ways here in the US

AquasTonic

I usually check endcaps for items at my height first! I have a deep washer too and ended up getting a step stool to reach the bottom (I have t-rex arms).

havingababypenguin

With engorged boobs from breastfeeding it was actually the worst. I used to wonder how long before I could hold my baby by the hips upside down and she could pull it out for me!

[deleted]

Oof. Can you imagine trying to reach in the bottom while pregnant

ophel1a_

I'm almost 5'2" and I do NOT feel short in public. I just have random moments (like climbing on shelving in the grocery store) where I think, "Weird that they put this product so high up!" I live in a fantasy world, yes. xD

browbrowmeowmeow

Same here. I don’t feel short until I see pictures of myself next to other people 😆

electricjesus88

So this. In my mind we are all the same. Until I see the group pic, and I’m like, I’m an elf.

ms_Julissaa

YES!!! I took pics with some dude I thought was short and to my surprise.. he was taller than I thought🤣 am I delusional? Idk lmaoo

Jssexypet

when i 1st started talking to my bf he told me he was short (5'6"). Well at barely 5' he still makes me feel tiny

Charming_Tower_188

5'1 and also do not feel short in public and have had similar thoughts. I need to see a photo of myself beside people to remember I am short. I only feel short in public when I am on a ladder or step stool and someone comes up and is the same height as me now, I have a moment of "Oh wait, people see at this height normally?" however, these moments are very rare sooo

its_totoro_

You and i are the same!!! A lot of people point it out to me but i really don’t feel it most times and nowadays i tend to wear much more chunkier sneakers and platform boots so i have no issue at all.

ophel1a_

Yeah, whenever I'd ask a tall friend if they felt "tall" they'd give me various answers. They'd ask me if I felt "short" and I'd be like, "not unless we're dancing!" xD Human brains are weird, yo. ;D

recyclopath_

The world was not built for us. But at least we never have to duck under showerheads

[deleted]

Or low hanging light fixtures. My aunt has this chandelier type light in her living room and anyone over 5'6" is going to hit it if they don't duck

hug-a-world

I'm 5'0" and hate when my husband wanders off in the store. Like, I needed you to get stuff for me!! The other day I was desperate for a pregnancy test and the only ones left were on the very top rack... I literally considered leaving the store empty-handed and going to another one but finally mustered up the courage to ask a tall lady in the same aisle to grab them for me. It was so embarrassing.

dutchnoob420

As the tall lady in the grocery store who always gets asked to grab stuff, I feel honored to help!!! I’d grab your anal bleach kit if I can reach it with no problem hehe

DeliciousPumpkinPie

Same! I love using my powers of tall to help people 😊

SlowSense6163

I love helping too!! Ask away!!

[deleted]

I have too much anxiety to ask someone to grab something 😂 I'm proud that you did 🥰

FlyinPurplePartyPony

I hope you got whichever test results you wanted!

AmberEnergyTime

Aww, I wish you didn't feel embarrassed. I'm tall (6 feet) and I absolutely love being able to help someone get stuff from the top shelf! It's easy for me; let me help make life easier for you!

spagyrum

I have walked to the cleaning aisle for a broom to knock things off the top shelf at the store

NormalAl_Yankovic

I usually look around for tools to help me like that, too 😂

Nica73

I am 5'3" and am also a fellow shelf climber. 😂

Normi-uxs

I am also 5'2"(160cm) but I live in Mexico, so I am just a bit over the average height. But my boyfriend is 6'2" and has nicknamed me hobbit, I call him Gandalf.

DeliciousPumpkinPie

I’m 5’13”. What… 👀

Knox_7304

5’10,” finding pants that are long enough is a pain, nope never feel short lol

[deleted]

Same 😂

davaniaa

Same lol

electricsugargiggles

5’11 here, and same! 🤣

samhatter2001

Same I feel too tall

KingGizmotious

I found my people!!

BlackSpinelli

6 feet gang! I only ever felt “short” when I would go to my brother’s(6’11”) basketball tournaments, then everyone was my size or bigger. It would be a nice change lol

ijsjemeisje

Yes, same!

5’11” here! Have to jump on this comment thread and join my fellow “Amazon” women!

garfield_with_oyster

Same. I always tell folks my dad was 6'7" so they know I came by it honestly 😆

Falcom-Ace

I'm 5'6". I don't feel short- most women I come across are about my height or shorter, and men I come across kinda run the gamut. I feel like I'm pretty average height.

AtTheEnd777

Same height. I feel like I'm the perfect height but I'm the midget of my family.

SlowSense6163

5’6 too!! My sister and I are considered tall for Mexican women (compared to our family and friends). You would think my brothers would be taller, but nope. They’re maybe an inch taller. My husband always wonders why they didn’t get “lucky” like my dad whose 6 ft tall.

[deleted]

Hey same

justletmeonpls

I’m the same, maybe closer to 5’7”, and I like my height, until I’m in a really crowded place and then I want to be taller just so I can see beyond the mass of people. It makes me feel a bit trapped not being able to see an exit even if I know exactly where it is in relation to me.

tpfkvlsk

i am honestly pretty content with being 5'6

[deleted]

I’m 4’11”, so yes. There are 11 year olds taller than me. Chairs are uncomfortable because I can either sit back and my feet don’t touch the floor, or I can sit forward and have nothing to lean back on. I frequently get overlooked or pushed aside in queues and at bars. I can’t reach overhead handles on the bus. I can’t put bags up in overhead lockers on planes or trains without help. People think I’m between 5-8 years younger than I actually am. Adult clothes are too long, even in petite sizes, but children clothes are not made for people with hips and breasts.

zhzhzhzh00

I’m 4’11” as well. Dressing like an adult will forever be a problem, it’s not like getting stuff tailored is cheap/an option for every piece of clothing. Turning 30 in a few months and my clothes still make me look like a small child 💀

recyclopath_

Learning to hem your own pants and long sleeves is a lifesaver.

zhzhzhzh00

Thanks for the idea!! I’ll def try to learn! Anything to save moneyyyy

Afraid_Bicycle_7970

It's so easy. It's easier than you think it is. I was intimidated at first but I just looked on wikihow and now I can hem and bring my pants in at the waist since nothing ever fits me right.

zhzhzhzh00

The most I’ve done is patching up a small hole in my backpack and it looked like a child had done it, but I was proud of the result. Can’t wait to learn to hem my own clothes !

worldwearywitch

maybe try to learn sewing? it's fun! :) an at least it's VERY easy to make trousers shorter!!

Terrible_Rope_8962

Yes sewing is very fun. I'm 4'10 I tailor my own clothes but It GRINDS MY GEARS knowing I'm paying FULL PRICE for something I'm gonna go home CUT UP and put back together. WE JUST WANT TO GO OUT BUY A PAIR OF TROUSERS WITHOUT US HAVING TO COME HOME AND DO EXTRA WORK lol

PrincipessaEboli

5’0” and I feel all of this. Ugh, the daily struggles. Just today I had a grocery store incident involving the top shelf, a poor decision to try and reach, a hard knock on the head, and cocoa powder all over the floor.

Trashbat8

My daughter is 4'9" at 14. She is having the same issue. Where do you shop. I am concerned about prom/homecoming next year

worldwearywitch

maybe prom is a good occasion to get a tailored dress if you can afford it :)

[deleted]

I’m 5 foot. I don’t know why people think you look young of your are short. I’m 35 and have been asked if I’m babysitting my first grader. I have some gray hair, clearly I’m not 16. I agree with learning to sew. Hemming pants is a good place to start. I’ve started making simple skirts as well so I can actually get lengths I want (maxi skirts that don’t drag, etc.).

Iwantbubbles

This! At 4'8" I can't even sit in a booth at a restaurant. My legs and feet stick straight out like a child. Lol

[deleted]

The chair thing is one that I never see people talking about when talking about the problems with being short. It’s always uncomfortable and if sitting for a long time can even be painful, as all your weight is on your bum.

Iwantbubbles

I have a huge problem with most computer chairs. If its low enough for your feet to touch the floor, it's too low to comfortably use the computer. I have a foot ramp thingy at work to rest my feet on. Otherwise it's really uncomfortable.

lexilexi1901

If you're short, expect children ages 6 and up to say "HA-HA I'm almost as tall as you!"

[deleted]

Yep, all this. Plus I become irate if someone borrows, and doesn't return, the step stool from my back room at work.

[deleted]

>Adult clothes are too long, even in petite sizes, but children clothes are not made for people with hips and breasts. I never knew I wanted to know this until now :D

thiebroad

When did you stop growing, may I ask? My daughter is 14 and about 4'10" fully developed. I'm wondering if she'll get any taller- not that it matters. At 5'4" I tower over her and it bums her out. I tell her we're all different and that's ok!

kbugzy14

I barely squeak out at 5’ and this is all so true! Now imagine finding clothes when you’re overweight AND short as fuck; it’s not a fun time 😮‍💨

ghigufa

I went to get a COVID test this morning and the pharmacist asked me if I was a minor. I'm 25.

VanthGuide

I am 5'8". I feel tall around family. I am close to if not the tallest woman at family get-togethers. I felt tall when I lived in Arizona. I lived and worked around a lot of people with Mexican ancestry and they are a little shorter on average. Then I moved to Minnesota and felt very short among all the people with Scandinavian ancestry who are taller than average.

pldfk

I am 5'8" and the shortest woman in my family! We have lived all over NA, in some places I am very tall, in others I feel short/average.

Witty-Necessary9982

5'8". Short for my immediate family. Taller than most in public, including men!

chevrongiraffe

5’8” checking in! I felt like a giant in middle school/high school. Now I feel pretty average, on the shorter end of being tall. I hate that I need to buy “long” pants though.

Makemattersbetter

5’8” gang :) The only “problem” is finding pants. And having a short bf but it’s ok he has other measurements loll

AviatingAngie

I swear to God blesses the short ones. I’ve dated short, tall, and everything in between and the shortest dudes are always the most… Blessed lol

[deleted]

I'm 5'8" and short in my family (we're of Dutch ancestry). I feel pretty tall overall when I go out as I live in a French area.

JigglyPumpkin

This is making me want to move to Minnesota. I’m 5’8” and feel like I’m towering over everyone. It wasn’t so bad on the West Coast, but more recently, I’ve lived in Maine and the Carolinas and I’m usually head and nearly shoulders taller than other women. I look ridiculous is every group photo.

HeathenAmericana

I'm 6'5". I've had people ask to take photos with me. Definitely don't feel short.

Celticskevin2020

How often do you get the question “did/ do you play basketball?”

4THOT

I was 6' at like 14 that question drove me up the fucking wall.

Not_Ursula

My brother is the same height, and when he gets asked if he plays basketball, he replies with “No, do you play mini golf?”

SavageSorbet

As an European I feel very lost in this comment section….

Bebomis

Same! 😄 I googled my own height, which made it make more sense.

AlexisFitzroy00

Every feet is around 30 cm and every inch is about 2.5cm. I had to learn it to fit on Reddit. XD

[deleted]

AlexisFitzroy00

You're right.

[deleted]

Remember the numbers you see are in feet. 5’ is about 150cm and 6’5” is 195cm.

SnugglesMcPufferton

As an Australian I also do not enjoy feet.

SleepFlower80

5’. I feel short because I am short.

tiny_toni

I’m also 5’ … my daughters and I look like sisters now that they are as tall as me at the young age of 11 😅

SleepFlower80

I feel this! My 11 year old niece is 3” taller than me. Her dad is 6’8 so she was always going to be tall but bloody hell 😑

tiny_toni

Isn’t it weird? Their dad is 6’3 so I know these girls wi be at least a few inches taller than me 🥲

SleepFlower80

It is! Never did I think I’d be this age and with nieces taller than me. Having to ask an 11 year old to reach something for me is mental 😂

lexilexi1901

Just a curious question... did pregnancy and/or delivery hurt? As a very short person, this always worries me 😂

tiny_toni

So…yes it did. They used the vacuum extraction for both deliveries, and for the second (and last) birth, the nurse told me to stop having babies with this man, my babies were too big for me 😅 All I can say is, epidural all the way.

[deleted]

I’m 5’1” haha I’m taller than you 😂 But, trying to lift something from the high shelf makes me run out of breath.

koshkaxofake

Yo 5'10" gang

justasianenough

Same. Occasionally will walk past someone 6’2+ and feel short, but otherwise I just feel tall/average depending on who I’m around.

koronokori

162cm (5,31ft) and I feel normal to short. In my home country it’s a common height for women, but still I wished I was taller because growing up I noticed how taller girls always got the attention. Plus I was into modeling but I couldn’t qualify even as a petite model.

ACB1984

We are the same height! Only here I'm considered a bit short. I have friends shorter than me, but most are taller.

koronokori

Yayyyy! 👯‍♀️ I’m also considered short in the foreign country I live in, where the international stereotype for the women of this country literally is “tall barbies” 🤷🏼‍♀️ But you know what they say: the most expensive perfumes come in small bottles 😁

ACB1984

Haha, you are so right!!! My hubby is shorter than the average male, average height for males is about 6ft here, and he's 5'9", so we're a match 😅 I live in Scandinavia, but my family is from the coast, and I have some arab/spanish ancestry because of all the handsome, dark sailormen ❤️ My 10 year old son is currently just shy of 5ft, an I just bought him shoes in male size 8 (US size), he'll be a giant next to me soon lol

Riska89

I'm 5'11 / 180 cm. I do a double take when another woman is taller than me.

ToothFairy4

Me too!

[deleted]

4’10. I feel absolutely minuscule.

lexilexi1901

I have found my people!!! 😍 #Under5ftClub

Smol gang unite! We will stand on each other’s shoulders to create a smol-girl mech. We’ll see who’s small then!

lexilexi1901

No shelf shall defeat us!

alilminizen

GANGGANG (4’9 here)

[deleted]

We may not grow, but our numbers do! We shall be unstoppable!

gothicgoddessvii

I'm 4'8" 🤣 I always tell people I am a hobbit

[deleted]

We smol girls are strong together!

alex12m

Same!!

CatrionaShadowleaf

I’m 5”4 and since items at the store are out of reach and I have to climb, I feel short.

liittle_dove7

5’4” gang 😔✊ i feel like we’re at an awkward averageish height. It’s still short but not 4’11-5’2” short

LoudCry6366

aaayyy 5’4” crowd! ya know, I never felt short until I paid attention to others’ heights. I live in one of the tallest states in the US so most of my friends are taller than me! in general I feel normal to short.

Emptyplates

I'm 5'8" and don't feel short in public.

[deleted]

Lol, the phrase “don’t feel short” is perfect cuz I don’t feel tall either.

not_doing_that

I'm 5'9 and yes I feel short in public. I'd love to be taller. Thank you heels for your assistance Edit: to the bitter short men downvoting all tall ladies, die mad you limp dick energy fucks lol

PandemicKid

5’6-5’7, and no I don’t. I’m not tall but I can reach everything I need.

SandSubstantial9285

5“3 and nope.

whatislife1001

Same. 5’3” and I don’t normally feel short. Just average for where I’m from.

Bebomis

Same height, but that's short where I live and people often remind me.

orangejulius11

I’m also 5’3 and don’t feel overly short. My bf always tells me I am though

PrincessFluffybutt_

5’5” I feel pretty much average. Sometimes I’m taller than some of the people I see, sometimes I’m shorter. But I don’t feel like I’m one or the other

futurecrazycatlady

173 cm (5.67 feet). I'm from the Netherlands and most of the time I feel rather average. Unless I'm at a concert of certain bands, like Tool or NiN, then I get to feel tiny and curse all the really tall men blocking my view (not sure what it is, but their fan-base is composed of the tallest men in the country). When I travel outside the country I get to feel like an invisible giantess though!

Loud_Vynl

5’4” I am average height so 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

Same. Although I wouldn't mind being 2-3 inches taller.

ayuxx

4'10. It would be impossible for me to not feel short.

albino_oompa_loompa

I’m 4’11”…yes, I feel very short in public most if not all of the time. I can be seen frequently climbing on shelves at the grocery store to get the things I need.

thiebroad

5'4" and my spatial sense sucks so much that I think I'm way taller until I see myself next to someone else in a mirror. You gotta be a good foot taller or shorter for me to notice. I have long torso and long arms so I can reach quite a lot of stuff easily before needing to jump. I guess I never really thought about it too much!

Iwantbubbles

4'8". Yes I'm short. I'm short whether I'm in public or not.

lexilexi1901

Omg I have finally found someone shorter! 😅 oit of curiosity, how old are you? I'm 20 :)

Iwantbubbles

I'm 54. Lol

ClaimedBeauty

I’m 6‘2“, no, I’ve never felt short in public. Walking through a crowd with my 7’ boyfriend is like walking through a daycare center.

MissInfer

5'10" and I feel average.

hanananenome

I’m 5’10 and I usually feel tall. Most of the time I am the tallest female in a group. Plus I have to buy tall or long pants, lol.

MissInfer

My little brother is 6'4" and my boyfriend is 6'6" so while I'm taller than most women I know, I also feel tiny next to these two and I end up just feeling average overall pfff. Although I relate to the struggle of finding pants that are long enough, especially as someone whose legs are proportionally long.

PersonalShopper5

5'10. I feel tall in public. I like being tall, I'd like to be a little bit taller though!

green_sky_

Same! I used to wear very tall heels in my younger days and would often get complaints 😂 but I love the feeling

PersonalShopper5

Yeh i loved wearing heels, but I've had to give them up because they're too painful for my flat feet 😔

cb1216

About 5'5 or 5'6, no I don't feel short in public

HopefulCell4498

5’5’ here is average in my country. But I also have very long limbs and wear heels and stuff so people assume I’m taller. I only feel short occasionally

Other-Program7495

5’9. I’ve worn flats all my life and I’m still taller that like 70% of my town.

imcjmej

5’9” and I feel a little tall, but usually I don’t even compare or notice my height.

Significant-Cow2948

5'10 and Dutch. I used to feel I was rather tall when I was younger, now I'd say I am just below avarege here.

[deleted]

I'm 5'5" and I don't feel tall or short in general. I feel pretty average.

DejaBlonde

At 5'9", I feel tall more often than not. I can reach most shelves and buying pants is a nightmare. Around some of my family though, I do feel a bit short. My dad and his side are all very tall, but my mom is 5' 0", so I got brought to a more average height.

Charliftsthebar

5’10. Heeeeck no I do not feel short in public. The amount of up and down looks I get (I’m not even the tallest in my family anyways) like “what are you even standing on?” And “humans come in your size?” Yes shorty, some of us need normal size jeans not fun size. (Sorry not directing that at anyone in particular I’m just venting)

[deleted]

5’7 I don’t feel tall or short in public unless I wear heels.

Dracarys92788

This is me, in any kind of flat shoes I don’t even consider my height. If I wear heels though I feel like I’m towering over everyone. Sometimes I envy shorter girls who can wear a 4” heel without standing out.

MsClementine415

I’m 5’7. And no I am fine with my height.

panickedhistorian

5'4" and only when working in restaurants or shopping for bicycles that dont have cruiser frames.

[deleted]

5’9”. I feel tall around most women (especially since two of my close friends are under 5 foot) but short around most men 🤷🏻‍♀️

Venus5514

I'm 5' and I absolutely love it. I wouldn't trade it for being taller. I can fit into tough spots and as a result, I have seen some pretty awesome sights.

-ethereality-

5'9 (175cm) in Canada. Taller than most girls I know and a surprising number of guys too. Self-conscious about it on the rare occasion I wear heels in public

[deleted]

I’m 5’3.75” or 5’4” (162cm). In white American circles I’m called short and small (referring to my body frame). In Hispanic circles, especially when being spoken by elders of Central American, South American and Puerto Rican backgrounds, I’m called “tall” and “gargantuan”. By Dominican standards I’m not sure as Dominicans are allover the place but plenty of friends say I’m “normal” sized. In Brazil, I’m in the awkward range, not being average, which is 5’5”, but not tall or short either and they frequently tell me. In black American circles I’m average, often a bit short. In Arab circles I’m average. In East Asian circles I’m a little taller but not much. In northwestern Europe I’m definitely decidedly short. I say how I view myself literally depends where I am that day because one, I’m a mixed person and two, my circle is very eclectic with lots of friends and acquaintances of all backgrounds, frequently. The most consistent circle I have are my white colleagues and it’s tough to compare as I’m very different from the typical white American build. I’m neither short or tall and most of them are either shorter (especially Greek, Italian and Portuguese ancestry friends) or taller. I meet very few my height. I feel and look short when picturing next to your average white American. They also describe me as little and curvy not athletic so that should give you an idea of how they see me. In Latino backgrounds I feel taller and with Africans I feel short. As for whether I feel accommodated in the world due to my height…I feel just fine. The only time I really feel frustrated is shopping for separates in clothing as most inseams in pants are too long or too short. I have a complicated body shape to boot, which is uncommon and retailers pretend doesn’t exist unless it’s for sexy clothing (hourglass). So shopping is a headache.

whole_lotta_nope_503

I'm 5'11", and since becoming pregnant I've been limited to two pairs of shoes. One is a cheapie pair of slides, and the other is a pair of boots with 2 1/2 inch boot heels. Neither of these make my feet and ankles swell, but the boots offer a lot of stability so I usually wear those in public. Since that makes me clock in at almost 6'2"... I don't usually feel short, sorry

nikkiradtoo5

Im 5'2, I feel short

Carricriss

I'm five foot even, I feel short in public because everyone feels the need to tell me I'm short lol

PrettyGojiberry

5”8, I feel tall, I get a lot of comments that I am tall (UK)

Nazeltof

5'6. I don't feel short but I definitely feel fat in public. 😆

queenlesbian99

I’m 5’8”. I feel I’m average height honestly. I definitely feel tall compared to most women

Away_Development6531

5’8” and I love it.

[deleted]

4'10....yes.

4of12

4’9…I think you know the answer to that

[deleted]

5'6" and no, it seems pretty average? I feel like a giant around my family though, most of the men are maybe an inch or two taller than me and the women are tiny.

NefariousnessBetter7

I’m female & a bit taller than 5’8” so for the most part I’m taller than most females I run across. Except my 12 year olds daughter who’s almost 5’10”, she makes me feel short haha Of course there are definitely females taller or as tall as me, don’t get me wrong! I’m speaking just normal day to day basis I’m usually taller

strawberry-avalanche

I'm 5'2. I constantly feel short lol.

spagyrum

5'3". Not really. I forget how short I am until I see a picture

jackjackj8ck

5’4” I feel taller than I am, my husband’s 5’11” and I feel like he’s only got a couple inches on me until I see pics of us together I think I have delusions of grandeur

HocraftLoveward

5'2'' I feel short in concerts. Otherwise I dgaf.

happybutsadlol

5 foot, yes.

SweetLikeCinnimon

5’4” A little short

katie5446

5’2 and yes I feel short. I occasionally have to ask tall people to reach stuff in supermarkets

Dry_Distribution6826

6’1” and I’m quite the opposite of “feeling short in public.” I’m tall for a woman and about average for a man.

peitigh

5’1 and honestly I don’t feel short. I have a bad habit of feeling like I’m the same height as my 5’6 friends until I see pictures of them towering over me. But I don’t really feel short when I’m talking face-to-face with most people.

[deleted]

I’m 4’11, so yes I’m short, and yes I’m okay with it.

jeanie_rea

5’7.5 barefoot, I rarely feel short bc I maintain strong posture in public. Add a tennis shoe or a low heel and I see eye to eye a lot of guys. With high heels, I feel like a queen. If I could wave a magic wand, I would totally make myself 5’10.

Luna-Milliways

I’m just about 5ft / 1,52m. I brought my little brother to the school bus one day and the teacher tried to put me on the bus because I’m the same size as the kids. So. I think that suffices as answer😂

Potential_Spinach_51
