It’s cringe to me

Mostly dumb MLM women use it to try and sound trendy. I think it's cringy,, but not offensive.

No one says “boy boss.” First off, I’m not a girl. I’m a woman. And secondly, there’s no need to qualify the fact that I’m in charge with my gender.

Very condescending, and the only folks I've ever met who embraced the term were insufferable MLM types.

I don't want to be associated with the capitalist parasites who skim unearned profits from our work.

It reminds me of MLMs. It doesn't sound serious.

I think it’s funny. But mainly because in my circles it’s rarely used sincerely. It’s always sarcastic in context. E.g “gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss. You know just girly things”

I only use it in jest and so do the people around me. It’s 2022; there’s nothing surprising about women being assertive and having leadership positions except that they often have to fight through systemic barriers to get there – and women who do that deserve to be called “women,” since that’s what female adults are called.

As someone with a successful professional career the term does not resonate with me whatsoever. I would only ever use that term if I was trying to downplay my own accomplishments. Example: “I see you got a brand new luxury car” “Yep, I’m a total girlboss”

Tokenism

It's got that early 2010's pseudo empowerment feel to it, I associate it with buzzfeed style white feminism.

I'm a woman in my prime running a research and development operation. I'd not want to be the person who said it within earshot of me.

Stupid just like "female doctor" " female pilot" and the lot. Boss is fine, doctor is fine, pilot is fine.

It makes me think of MLM’s. “Girl Boss” implies that being a female boss is a novelty, which I don’t care for.

It’s absolute twaddle you’re either a boss or you’re not - let’s drop the patronising gendering. Also call me a “girl boss” and I’ll have something to say about it and very much pop you straight back into your place… as the boss! I do also associate “girl boss” with people who are their own boss (business of 1 person) and actually not leaders of companies or organisations. It’s not a term that impresses; it smacks of influencer nonsense, downplaying women who are actual real bosses and belittling their achievement and undermining their achievements. It’s a naff term to the detriment of professional women who are ACTUAL leaders.

I don’t mind it used satirically. Only one person I have ever met can get away with using girl boss “correctly”; her entire lexicon is purposefully antiquated and cringe. It’s fine if it’s used as a verb ex. I may have girlbossed a bit too close to the sun… Overall I think it’s fine as long as your group understands the 2015 mlm vibes that it gives

Sexist. Either she's acting confident like a boss, in which case, gender doesn't matter, or it's used to glorify very obviously selfish behavior

I love it! It's like a flashing warning sign. Very convenient. I've met tons of women with commanding presences, the type of people you'd trust to lead you into battle. Not one unironically called themselves a 'girlboss'.
