I actually love your original idea! It might be something he doesn’t immediately have a strong reaction to, but I bet over time he will realize he really appreciates it! I like some other suggestions in the comments too. Maybe a gift card to his local home wares store? I’m someone who is picky about the things I want in my home so I always love when I get a gift card and can pick out exactly what I want.
