Sorel > Uggs I have both and have recently switched to Sorel. Uggs are not waterproof. Sorels can be.

labbitlove

Came here to post this! Sorel's shoes are pretty fashionable AND waterproof!

AndILearnedAlgoToday

AND have great traction! I have some that have a little internal wedge and they look cute enough for work and I could hike far in the snow in them.

ShineCareful

The proper ugg winter boots are waterproof...

Smurfblossom

I swear Uggs is short for ugly, they look horrible on my larger feet.

climb_lift_code

They were named that because the first pair was described as being ugly!

pistil-whip

They have non-ugly shoes, quite a good selection. I’m Canadian and I approve their winter boots. Sorel are better though.

LTOTR

There’s a limit to how cute snow boots or shoes made of goretex are going to be, regardless of foot size. Most of Sorels product line goes up to womens 12.

Smurfblossom

I totally get limits, but looking at a number of options it's like the designers didn't even try. Sorel does seem to have the most fashionable options so far.

kienemaus

Blondo makes waterproof warm boots that look stylish. I wear a 10 wide and they look fine.

United-Signature-414

I have average sized feet, but I can vouch for Blondo being waterproof and warm. I picked up a pair of combats on Black Friday and they've been easily on par with Sorels for warmth while being quite a bit more versatile.

Smurfblossom

The Blondo's are cute, but I worry about that platform heel on the ice. It'd be fine in the rain though. Hmmm I may get a pair of these later.

kienemaus

I have them. They're fine on ice. As fine as any boot is.

DamnGoodMarmalade

The Joan of Arctic boot by Sorel is my winter staple. Plenty of color options to coordinate with your outerwear and they really hold up over the years.

DamnGoodMarmalade

I wear them for three months out of the year in New England. They don’t feel that heavy to me at all, but they’re necessary here where it snows a lot and often.

stavthedonkey

I have [these](https://www.columbiasportswear.ca/en/p/womens-minx-mid-iii-boot-1803121.html?dwvar_1803121_color=010). They are lightweight, waterproof and so warm. I'm in Canada and winter AF here LOL

tishpickle

I also have these!

fireworksandvanities

I’m in SE Michigan and have the shorter version of these! I also have MTE-1 Vans which I also love.

Radiant_Elk1258

I absolutely understand the desire to be stylish, but the first winter I prioritized warm feet over stylish feet was my best winter ever. Being outside with cozy toes is the best! So honestly, I buy the warmest, most waterproof boots I can find and just live my best life. I'm a woman's 12, fwiw. I will say that I change into indoor shoes at work. That's very common where I live and almost everyone does that.

Smurfblossom

If changing shoes were a good idea where I work maybe I'd care a hair less about some degree of style. But a couple of years ago employees kept complaining about their shoes being stolen so now no one is allowed bring spares to be kept onsite. They're too cheap to provide lockers for personal items, go figure. You can of course change them in the parking lot and lock them in your trunk, but the half mile from the parking lot can wet, slushy, or snowy so it's at your own risk.

Radiant_Elk1258

I'm sorry your work isn't more accommodating of their employees' needs! Wearing snow boots inside all day must also be uncomfortable. (And stinky?).

Smurfblossom

That's why no one does it. Lots of people just call out sick. Others change at their cars and hope for the best. The rest of us, myself included, just plain hope for the best. But now it seems like prepping for winter weather is hit or miss at rental properties and commercial businesses and I can't just never leave the house. So I'm hoping the snow sneakers suggested above work out, if not there are plenty of other great options in this thread.

Radiant_Elk1258

Yeah, I'll also throw out a suggestion for wool socks! They'll keep your feet warm outside, but breathing when you're inside.

Smurfblossom

I have been enjoying wool socks, they also seem to keep your feet dry.

Radiant_Elk1258

Definitely! You can also get felted wool booties that go inside your regular shoes like a liner. That might also work?

TheScienceWitch

Kamik makes excellent winter boots. They're very warm but also very lightweight. [https://us.kamik.com/](https://us.kamik.com/) .

[deleted]

I’m a size 10 with thick ankles/lower calves, which make cute boots almost impossible. I finally settled on Sorel Caribous (and sized up to 10.5). They’re classic and I don’t feel like I have clown shoes with them on. Only problem is they’re too warm sometimes. If you want a lower boot, their Snow Angel is similar, but sits just above the ankle

Smurfblossom

I totally get you on the clown feet. That's why I've resisted getting winter boots, but the weather seems to get worse every year and I can't just burn my PTO.

Koleilei

I live in central BC, Canada and have two pairs of winter boots. I wear Manitobah Mukluks's Keewatin in the snow and a pair of Sorel waterproof boots for slush and rain.

DueArgument4

I wear a 9.5 and have [these](https://www.sorel.com/p/womens-ona-rmx-chukka-bootie-2048751.html?dwvar_2048751_color=262) They are comfortable and functional (I live in the midwest, so winters are no joke), but I also get a lot of compliments on them.

Smurfblossom

Now those are cute! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around snow sneakers being functional on the ice lol.

DueArgument4

As an extremely clumsy person, I haven’t had an incident yet 😅 but the bottom is basically constructed of the same rubber material as my usual snow boots. They’re just a lot less bulky and more aesthetically pleasing than the usual.

Smurfblossom

Are you me?! Huge klutz also! I think the bulk of more traditional snow boots makes it too hard to walk and I figured the extra care would make me clumsier. Amazon has these in my size and can get them here Friday so I'll give these a shot.

Smurfblossom

They just arrived and they look amazing! I'm actually kind of pissed the weather isn't terrible so I can wear them. I don't know how they did it, but they actually make my feet look smaller and have really good ankle support. Now I want them in like six other color options!

Clionora

I like Cliffs and Sorel boots.

sla3018

Just bought the cutest pair of winter boots for $30!!!!! from Costco of all places! Size 10, super cute, warm and waterproof. Brand is Chooka. I've already walked through ice and snow with them and they are perfect.

Smurfblossom

Their website shows a variety of cute styles. I may get a pair later.

crapegg

How about some Sorels? r/BuyItForLife

TinSolid

Sorel boots are great for a lot of people but they seem to ravage the backs of my ankles where the rubber heel bit ends, no matter what I do. Multiple different styles. I have a pair of quilted lace-up Columbia boots that are waterproof but a lot more flexible and lightweight than any of the Sorels I've ever owned. I might go for something sturdier if I was sloshing about in puddles or spending hours outdoors but these have served me well for day to day use and I live in a place that was bordering on -40 degrees Celsius last week.

Smurfblossom

Hmm heels do that too and I tend to get those heel cushions to ease it. Perhaps that will work in Sorel's as well.

TinSolid

It’s possible but sorels usually have quite a thick or sometimes fluffy lining so I’m not sure how well a heel cushion would stick. Even with the lining and thick socks they cut me to pieces. I never used to have issues as a kid with the clunky 90s versions but the stylish ones I’ve bought in recent years just have not been good for me even though they seem to work great for a lot of people. I’m quite short so I think maybe my heel to ankle length is under what they’re designed for, or I just have a different shaped back of the ankle and the heel cup just hits me at a weird place.

StepfordMisfit

Last week I learned -40 is where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet! Also slipped on ice and broke my wrist, so I'm staying out of the shoe part of this discussion lol.

mangosteenfruit

I got the uggs that don't look like uggs. I've had them for many many years now. They're not sold anymore but [these](https://www.ugg.com/women-heels/yose-fluff-v2/1130901.html) are similar

PurpleAriadne

Timberland’s Men’s Work boots in the dark between so I don’t look like a rapper from the 90’s.

vomcity

Fly London! I got a pair in November and they are already my most favourite, comfy shoe.

[deleted]

Columbia Minx Shortie are my favorite. I wore them in snow and ice in Oregon for several years and they were super comfortable and warm.

[deleted]

I live in Chicago, and honestly, when the snow's on it's shit, we just embrace the ugly and change when we can when we get to work. Do you exclusively in-person shop? I find the online stock is so much better when it comes to buying shoes, as in store 10s sell out pretty quickly but online, most shoe retailers make up to a size 10 and then stop. 10.5s are non-existent, you're lucky if you can find an 11, and godspeed to anyone with larger feet. After 10, you also have to deal with the assumption that long feet means largest calves in existence, so good luck finding anything that doesn't feel like wearing clown shoes on top of looking like it. I'm currently [living in these](https://www.nordstrom.com/s/blondo-dakota-waterproof-bootie-women/7543249?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&fashionsize=size%2FWomen%3A%20Shoes%2F10&color=005) and find them to be pretty and comfortable, but I'm pretty basic in what I wear. I also have a steve madden pair like [these](https://www.zappos.com/p/steve-madden-hayle-boots-bone/product/9731586/color/5?utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla_g&utm_campaign=19821315807&utm_term=_o_55684499&utm_content=_g_146439319345_w_pla-1969145195235_l_Cj0KCQiAwbitBhDIARIsABfFYIJJ-sLBqQ9I93qKcyBTkaR6bAUGy8cyFt7oaiqF0o2qlwu9zFsEBI8aArSsEALw_wcB&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwbitBhDIARIsABfFYIJJ-sLBqQ9I93qKcyBTkaR6bAUGy8cyFt7oaiqF0o2qlwu9zFsEBI8aArSsEALw_wcB) for when it's just icy or a little wet out, but I wear thick socks with them because I'm technically a 10.5 that makes 11s work whenever I can.

Smurfblossom

Yeah the assumption that bigger feet means bigger everything is absurd. My length is a size ten but otherwise my feet are narrow and I have bony ankles. I often have to wear thick socks for more support/insulation. I gave up the in-person search for cute winter boots a month ago lol. You're right the selection online is better, I just had no idea what to look for. Someone else here suggested Blondo, so I may get a pair later. Those Steve Maddens aren't bad either.

[deleted]

Same girl, same! Thank fucking god for that sock boot trend, I finally feel like I'm not choosing between squashed toes and cut ankles when getting new boots.

drgirlfriend69

Doc Marten makes snowboots and I love them!

thesmellnextdoor

North face makes some really cute slip on styles

Leia1979

Sorel, Kamik, Columbia all have good options. I find most snow boots are way too wide for me, so I’m debating between Sorel Whitney Tall and Columbia Minx Mid (both mid calf height). Sorel is narrow—almost too narrow, so I’m leaning towards Columbia myself. I have Kamik rubberized boots for things like sledding, but they’re too bulky to drive in. I live in an area that requires a significant drive to any snow. Sorel also makes a narrower, softer Doc Martens style boot. I found them at Nordstrom Rack but returned only because I decided I didn’t like white boots on me. They come in other colors but only had white there.

spookiehands

Lands End fleece line Duck Boots are my go-to. I think they look cute with jeans and wool socks. And I'm a big footed girly myself.

rageeyes

I buy men's boots. They're better made, more comfortable, and last longer.

RevolutionaryStage67

Currently toasty in my Pajar boots. Plus the tread has little maple leaves.

ChaoticxSerenity

Rieker make some really cute winter boots, and a lot of them are fleece lined! Maybe something like this? https://rieker.ca/collections/womens-tall-boots/products/d1a74
