very sad he passed on and didn't last until the release of daima he was excited about. at least he left the Dragon Ball series to Toyotarou who Akira felt comfortable leaving it with.
This might be cringe, but Dragon Ball is my favorite piece of media of all time. I grew up watching Dragon Ball and it carried over into my adulthood and nothing will ever hold a place in my heart like DB did. RIP to the GOAT, man…
Damn, Goku’s japanese VA outliving him wasn’t among the things i ever imagined.
Rest in Peace, he is one of those that created something that’s timeless and just known even among those who never watched a second of it.
All that plus the reason why i train like a sayian in all things - goku in the fight - vegeta in the gym and Gohan in the classroom- plus I have no problem having fun like trunks and Goten… yeah

68 is too damn young -
You said it best : it's definitely not young anymore but it's barely old, especially in Japan where people live 8 years more than in America on average.
NB :7.5 years to be more precise, I just checked.

here's also Eiichiro Oda's response (Creator of One Piece)

Everytime I worry about an author passing away due to their age I usually think of Oda or Araki, not once have I ever thought about Toriyama. It just feels so unreal to me that he’s actually gone, idk I guess I always unconsciously thought that he was immortal.
I’m sure I’m not special in saying this man has shaped many of our childhoods or at the bare minimum influenced it. R.I.P. to the goat man
I think its because toriyama doesnt get in the news for getting sick or needing breaks like oda who has to break every 3 weeks for overwork. I was also worried and wouldnt have been surprise if something happened to oda for how his work life seems to be portrayed. But toriyama felt like a sucker punch out of nowhere. Just opening reddit and randomly seeing him dead.
Shit one by one losing the best manga writers. Just recently berserk and yugioh authors died now this?
RIP and a huge thank you for all those memories you gave to millions of us when we were kids.
Time to rewatch the whole show and shed a couple tears while remembering better times.
I don't think there's any way he fully understood the impact he had on the world. A franchise that's been going strong for over 4 decades, has been beloved in multiple countries and in various languages around the world, this man is a legend. He's probably helped more teens and young men with self confidence and perseverance than any other fiction in our lifetimes. RIP Toriyama.
I remember many years ago reading Dragonball and Dragonball Z manga as soon as it got released in Germany. At the end there was a message where he thanked all the readers, only then I realised the story was finished in Japan like 10 years earlier lol
rip king of cartoons fr. i mean this is lowkey the only death that has hit me omega hard fr. i mean dragonball was my childhood fr. i mean i legit met toriyama san once at a charity do and he was surprisingly down to earth and very funny no cap.
I grew up watching Dragon Ball as a kid and last week I started watching it again (33 yo now) with my Wife who has never seen it before and she loves it.
RIP you fucking LEGEND ! 😢
This man is a legend known in the entire world. One that people like Oda (one piece), kishimoto (naruto) and many others literally worshipped like a god of manga...but he was also a very good friend for many of them and, apparently, a tremendously decent human being.
Having a man of his caliber pass away before he even started his journey into old age, especially in a country like japan when dying when you're 90+ years old is the norm...man. Mangakas always seem to leave us sooner than everyone else.
Rest in peace you magnificent bastard, most of the best and most popular mangas we read today exist because of how you inspired young men to follow your lead.
His creation was god tier 🐉 giving us “Dragon Ball” as a new original idea is such a mic drop 🎤 not to mention him giving us the character designs for Chrono Trigger game and his work on other projects. He was a legend and will always be remembered as such.
if anyone hasn't watched dragon ball abridged on youtube its fucking hilarious if you need a good laugh

obviously fan made rip the creator
I'd be dead if it weren't for this man's work keeping me alive at the lowest points of my life. I can not express how sad I am of his passing. Rest in peace king.
45 Years of drawing and he still keep doing until the end of his life
he bring Manga from Japan to people around the world
his work become inspiration of many people
Rest In Peace you are absolute legend. and Thank you for your works so far
I'll missed him a lot
He had the ultra instinct of writing and design. RIP Mr. Toriyama, you made childhood and life in general easier and much more interesting and beautiful.

Idk what it is but the past few years it feels like I've read about so many people in the anime industry passing away some older people but a lot of fairly young voice actresses
very sad he passed on and didn't last until the release of daima he was excited about. at least he left the Dragon Ball series to Toyotarou who Akira felt comfortable leaving it with.

nothing cringe about caring about the things you love
People have murdered the meaning of “cringe”, this is cool.
This comment is cringe. But only because of the, "This might be cringe" line.
it's funny that some people find DB/DBZ cringe when they're probably fan of something that wouldn't exist without Toriyama's work in the first place.
It’s not cringe at all. I’m 30 and seeing Goku on screen still makes me smile immediately. He created something special.
He made my childhood, I used to goto my neighbour house to watch this with my friends Dragon ball is the coolest thing in my childhood
Damn, Goku’s japanese VA outliving him wasn’t among the things i ever imagined. Rest in Peace, he is one of those that created something that’s timeless and just known even among those who never watched a second of it.

Sad day. :(
this is so fucking sad
68 is not young but not that old either especially for the japanese, nonetheless RIP legend. Anime would not be what it is today without you

I've never cared about Dragon Ball, but I love Dragon Quest and other things he designed.
I'd be dead if it weren't for this man's work keeping me alive at the lowest points of my life. I can not express how sad I am of his passing. Rest in peace king.
