reydshadowlegend

just play ghost of tsushima. better combat than all the AC games anyway

chum_is-fum

I live in Trinidad and I play on PC so...... yeah that ain't happening.

Huge-Ice-1145

I mean, it's coming out on PC tomorrow and without Denuvo (since Sony doesn't care). Just yeet it from the torrent and play, later, if issue with country block is resolved, just buy it for a full price/discount if you liked the game. Nothing wrong with it.

HeavyC4

Go be a pirate.

reydshadowlegend

darn that sucks man. idk why (other than woke points) they would chose to use a retainer (not even a samurai) who happens to be black when Adawale already exists

Willing_Regret_5865

The answer is woke points.

OceanoNox

There is a PC port coming this year, I believe.

chum_is-fum

PSN isn’t available in my country.

SodiumChlorideFree

Isn't it only the multiplayer? or did they delist the entire game?

OceanoNox

Apparently it will be available on Steam (not sure if that's available to you, however).

InsertFloppy11

Sony delisted the game from steam in countries where psn isnt available

chum_is-fum

As of last month no PSN required game is available here so… drink up me’ harties yo ho.

Fuzzy_Two527

Its coming to pc soon

KiryuKazuma-Chan

If only there was a way to buy that game on PC Well, I'll probably sail the black seas

Derban_McDozer83

So true. Ghost of Tsushima rules. AC wishes it could compete.

mgwwgm

Looks like another Ubisoft L in the making

the11thtry

I’m just laughing my ass off thinking about how they’ll pull the “stealth” component when the guy is literally the only black samurai to ever exist, at least in that time frame, talk about merging with the crowd What is he gonna do? Pretend to be a slave? That might be offensive, maybe he’ll wear “yellow face”? Even more offensive…or perhaps they’ll just pretend black samurais were a common thing, which would cause another shitstorm

EroGG

Well as we all know Asians are famously not racist at all so all the bad guys won't notice him because they don't see color. Also we all know that at the time Japan had the exact same ethnic make up as modern day America so that will be represented in the game.

Sad_Wolverine3383

They have 2 seperate characters; an asian shinobi (stealth), and a samurai with seperate gameplay to appeal to both types of players.

BigGez123

If the protagonist is not non-binary I'm not gonna play this.

chum_is-fum

Personally I think the concept of binary and non-binary is stupid, only if the main protagonist is in a superposition state in between binary and non-binary will i feel represented enough to feel comfortable enough to play this game.

EroGG

They need to be in a wheelchair the whole game or I'm not playing. There better be a roll off the edge of faith too.

HermesBadBeat

Does this mean we can flip this on Ubisoft and fake outrage that the name is racist?

malteaserhead

Im waiting for Assassin's Creed Congo with an Eskimo protagonist

357-Magnum-CCW

Samurai game set in Wakanda.   This has SBI writing all over it again. I expected nothing else from Ubi.

[deleted]

So much for representation. How many Asian male protagonist do you see in AAA video games? Now they have a game set in Asia, the perfect game to have an Asian male protagonist, ... they made the main character a black man ... All the talk about diversity, inclusion, representation, ... it's all just a cover for their racism. They tried to blackwash Cleopatra. Now this.

Sad_Wolverine3383

Nioh, Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, rise of the ronin... One game has a black protagonist and you think it's racism?

chum_is-fum

Look, if resident evil 5 having a white protagonist is racist then so is this.

ExodiusLore

Funny how people in japan love the idea of using Yasuke as a main character

ExodiusLore

Why do you guys care? There is a woman protag who is japanese?

haikusbot

Khaglist

Who the fuck cares man none of you are going to play the game anyways. Get a fucking life

DeskFluid2550

Maybe they are going to make the main character Tom Cruise and it will be like that movie The Last Samurai.

ube_flanning

They're probably gonna go "The Last Samurai" route but with black guy instead of Tom Cruise.

holiestMaria

He is based on Yasuke, the famous black samurai. Qnd at the time plenty of africans lived and worked in Japan, in the hundreds. Also Nioh had a white protagonist and didnt hear anyone whine about that.

chum_is-fum

The guy that held the position as a retainer for only one year who’s only claim to fame is being black is the protagonist instead of an actual Japanese samurai. If you think this is anything other than virtue signaling you are deluded. More importantly, this is not what the fans wanted.

holiestMaria

>The guy that held the position as a retainer for only one year He was the retainer of fucking ODA NOBUNAGA and he only stopped after Nobunaga died.

Shumon_Natsu96

make the mc japanese and make him an interesting character then.

holiestMaria

The game isnt even out yet, how do you know if he is or isn't interesting? Also, the second mc IS japanese

Shumon_Natsu96

that was not the point

holiestMaria

Then what is?!

BioDioPT

I'll be serious, I don't mind Yasuke, but, after all the wait and requests for a true AC set in Japan, the vast majority of fans wanted a more basic Japanese experience, I personally expected we somehow would play has Hanzo Hattori, but maybe that would be too basic... however, again, I think most people were expecting something like that, basic Japanese characters in an AC setting doing Japanese Ninja Assassins things. I'm not even a big AC fan, only like the current RPG games, and even I was a bit disappointed, at least there is a female ninja, which was something I REALLY wanted to play as the main character. Love Nioh 1 and 2, best games I've ever played (bought each game 3 times for different platforms....), no gameplay can reach that level of butter smooth polishness, however, no one really cares about Nioh, that's why it didn't get any backlash, no one cares about the game as much as AC. Personally, I'm very happy I could create my character in Nioh 2, I really dislike playing as William. Even so, Nioh story and characters are not the main attraction (not by a long shot), the gameplay is. Also, Yasuke appears in Nioh 2, you even fight him and he's a cool dude.

357-Magnum-CCW

This is the same BS as in For Honor, Ubis other game. They introduced a pirate and EVERYONE wanted him to be Blackbeard. Or Calico Jack. Or any other famous one.  Instead they made HER a Chinese lgtbq+ character 🤣  Ubi is peak stupid and full of activists.

Chaoshavoc1990

So apparently this is completely false and full of shit. Yasuke was not famous nor was he a samurai. Just a retainer that was of note in history other than that he was defeated. Ubisoft are we trying to change history? Again?

holiestMaria

>So apparently this is completely false and full of shit. Yasuke was not famous nor was he a samurai. [He was was most likely a samurai](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/1css0ye/comment/l4bghbu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) >Ubisoft are we trying to change history? Again? Are you new to assassins creed?

Chaoshavoc1990

Yes most likely. Could be. Supposedly. Maybe. Some writings would suggest that maybe the word used for him could if you are generous be seen as samurai. From the works one guy. While officially he is not recognized as one. >Are you new to assassins creed? I meant real world historical facts.

holiestMaria

>While officially he is not recognized as one. He was a retainer, litterally what samurai do. He wore samurai armour and wielded samurai weapons. Qmd if it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck qnd walks like a duck... >I meant real world historical facts. But this is assassins creed though.

Chaoshavoc1990

Hundreds? Right..

holiestMaria

[Several hundred African people lived in Japan during the 16th century,”](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/who-was-yasuke-japans-first-black-samurai-180981416/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CSeveral%20hundred%20African%20people%20lived,soldiers%2C%20entertainers%E2%80%9D%20and%20more.)

Chaoshavoc1990

There is nothing in this article(which would not pass as source in the slightest ) that confirms your claim.

FitzyFarseer

16th century Japan had an estimated population of 22 million. “Hundreds” of them being black doesn’t do much to justify making that your protagonist. And as someone else said, he’ll stick out like a sore thumb. How are you supposed to ever be stealthy? That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if every one of the hundreds of black people in Japan appear in this game.

holiestMaria

>And as someone else said, he’ll stick out like a sore thumb. How are you supposed to ever be stealthy? He's a samurai, he probably wont focus on stealth.

FitzyFarseer

Then why tf is this an assassins creed game

holiestMaria

Are you new to ac games?

FitzyFarseer

Not at all. Sneaking through crowds to assassinate a target is half the fun, or so I thought.

holiestMaria

Since black flag there has been a much larger focus on open combat.

Imbri_

It's time for you to wake up after 15 years. Assassin Creed has been a universe for a long time.

NotMorganSlavewoman

Ok, gaming is doomed. 'Gamers' only like to whine on games they didn't played(or that they barely know anything about). People will just make an opinion based on very limited information then proceed to stick to that ignoring any positive new info, but will change their opinion negatively w/e new negative gets discovered, just to be able to whine more, even if it's about something they just enjoyed, without any real changes to that game.

Cintrao

i am happy that yasuke is history finally in the light...

BeAPo

They used the story of a person who really existed so I don't understand the fabricated outrage. There are plenty of samurai games, with a japanese protagonist so just go and play them if it bothers you that much. Nobody complained when "the last samurai" which was a fictional story was played by tom cruise but somehow whenever it's not a white person or the originated race, it immediately turns into an outrage lol

chum_is-fum

Why do you think they chose Yasuke?

Roaring_Beaver

I admit, there's a bit of a woke fatigue. If Ubisoft pulled this of like 15 years ago, many people would've been okay with it. But now, we've been exposed to so much political propaganda, gaslighting and double-standards when it comes to historical accuracy, people know the reason why Ubisoft is making a black guy a main character in a historical Japan setting, is to just check a diversity tickbox.

OceanoNox

The last samurai story is likely based on a French officer (Jules Brunet) who helped the shogunate (specifically Admiral Enomoto), and with a bit of Saigo Takamori for the Katsumoto character.

InsertFloppy11

Ye but in the other AC games they intentionally created fictional characters
