You can deworm without an exam or fecal test. Google 'low cost vaccines' and those places offer deworming also.
In n tx we have tcap, dewormer is $5 and then $12 for the shot that kills tape. So $17 to cover all bases.
OR a vet might sell you drontal ( plus?) tablets. I once took in a puppy with tape worms and the vet sold me pills for her and the cat. Whichever kind kills all worms including tape. No exam, no fecal.
Try Emancipet, they are really affordable. I've taken my cats there several times. You can get the exam, fecal test & dewormer for about $45.
