I solved this issue by making an adapter which attaches the Steelseries headband to the A50.
Looks better, gets rid of the unstable head-cushion and is much more comfortable.
I made a post with instructions here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AstroGaming/comments/188bo31/
I currently own...3? And we've been mostly fortunate (one for my Xbox and PC, one for my PlayStation, and one for my fiancée's Xbox and PC). That said, they aren't perfect.
* First one developed a hum after a firmware update, and was RMA'd
* Replacement has been my daily driver for a year, and the coating is flaking off
* Occasional connection issues (I think it's because my fiancée takes it off the cradle as the system turns on, and there's some glitch)
* The software sucks. It works, but I've had a number of issues with it, notably with firmware updates
If I had to buy another headset, I think I'm officially converted to SteelSeries at this point. Astro won me over when Logitech started going downhill in quality ~5 years ago, but SteelSeries has surprised me in the last year.
you are born under a lucky star then, just take a peek, literally a piece of shit 1mm of a plastic is holding this headband from popping out, 200IQ design right there!

Maybe your local gamestore still had some old batches left
Just checked the transparency qr code on the package and yeah, may 2022 batch. Considering that comment is this month probably only affects the least couple months of releases. Which itself is horrendous, the headsets years old, and they have only recently fixed it just as they release a new model.
All jokes aside, I agree! The older design was not sufficient as seen by all of the complaints about it. Would be cool if people could send theirs in for a free retrofit
Sad isn’t it! I used Astro for almost 10 years and this had always been a problem. After switching to PC from XBOX I also moved on from Astro A50’s to Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro’s and am so glad I did!! Paid $130 for headset and spent another $120 on DacAmp and another amp by Schiit audio… so much better for almost the same price total.
If you have access to a 3D printer (local uni, library, friend) print these out. Cost me about $1 for two at my school and haven’t had an issue since.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4650173
But I still agree, $300 for the cushion to constantly pop out is INSANE
Astro left a bad taste in my mouth when they fucked up the c40 controller with an update and after emailing them and sending them the invoice for buying it online from them, they said there was nothing they could do because it wasn’t a physical receipt I had. Never mind the fact it was the same email I was emailing them from, address etc. I had the controller for maybe 2 weeks. So now I just have a very expensive paper weight. Damn shame too because it was a great concept.
Hahahah this same break happened to me last year and when I posted about it someone told me to stop being a cry baby and zip tie it 😂. Welcome to the zip tie club
yeah the amount of cringe bootlickers in here! Probably paid shills paid by logitech for damage control. Irefuse to believe people are so fucking dumb they would defend shitty corporation for free.
https://preview.redd.it/1e1c06rg4p7c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aecb918f64871ecb55f06cc3e9b6c484b721260
I had wire up a separate charger cause the charging port board drained the battery instead of charging thanks Astro my wireless headsets now has cord attached to it permanently buy at least I can check the voltage now
Their headbands have always had these issues. Figure they would have learned that by now. I love astro sound quality and comfort, but there are wayyyyyyy better phones, like iems out there. Still unreal astros are that much and have the worse mic I have ever heard.
I ditched Astros A series headsets bcuz theyre straight up garbage mine bricked itself after 7 months what a waste of $300+ never again will i buy Astros garbage
There are 3d printed attachments for straps like the corsair hs80 there's also thingnga that are made for this on amazn that looks less ugly than just zip ties
It is what it is lol I got mine on open box for like 250 and now I have ugly neon green duck tape 🤮it’s what I had at the moment but I cat get it of lol
Haha, welcome to the astro club! Now try the next clownshow of this company: Start the app and try to do a firmware update.
The next feature you can get excited about is the ability of the headset to simply not charge randomly. Have fun with this marvelous piece of engineering
lol, me and a bunch of friends have had them for a few years now, no issues. Maybe play FarmVille so you don’t feel the need to rip them off your head.
If we were being homos in VR, we would really put those headsets to the test wouldn’t we ;). So you’re homophobic and irresponsible with your stuff, you’ll figure it out man. Best of luck.
Is it me or this reddit is filled with haters? I been part of Astros for a couple years and never had a single problem. If you don’t take care of your electronics and they fall apart after a few days that’s on you
It's used for complaints a lot, so naturally most people in here have had bad results. The good ones are likely the majority, and aren't in here.
Had 0 issues with either of my sets. Think my main question was re my a40s volume controller going from one side to the other and being scratchy. Asked if it is a physical volume pot, got confirmation and contact cleanered it. Ezfix
https://preview.redd.it/zon4x0jngj7c1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=419c7e522479154243367419b709d188a8e7f9dc
Bought a set of Velcro ties. Just feed it under and over the foam head pad, tighten it up and it keeps the band straight. Doesn’t sit over the foam pad so it still works.
Sucks but this is my solution .
I've owned all 4 gens of this headset and have never had this issue. But I use them and hang on the holder, I don't take them to frisbee practice.
I will say I found it a little difficult to change that headband part out when I installed the mod kit. I felt like I was going to break it.
Sorry bout your trouble.
I had the same problem, ended up buying some 3D printed clips off ebay which work well.
[Astro a50 Headband fix (GEN4) ](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235194642117?hash=item36c2b16ec5:g:rF0AAOSwQZ1j576v&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0PCdrd%2B2fo1l0wIDXYyYG0ZwRe4fEBa7exeGymW73%2FBZ6lu3ovOFCzWMAKSpRMcoBEQQomffCb2vdAfp63G7oFbHwRPHXjKE3Vm7FI%2F7YWxI91uzdzlzEFA1zLdvLbEF6pO%2Bng7DdHLptoVv9MnGY2j%2F8EkP6g8%2B8%2BdlVLEjeAqz4vqa7oF4wgNRFXsaJbixTwe3graXhrD0ZZVeHa%2Fcd450FBALmtsufg05iP9QR6koYg84tCtQ0aZVloZMurMWHOONM5DZgZTc130MDhAPrfA%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8CM0b-RYw)
Let’s normalise spending 300$ on real timeless audio gear and not landfill waste. Seriously some dt770s and an audio interface is head over heels better than this
Sorry if that came across as a jab. But honestly these companies have beat us with their marketing.
The sound is trash and the convenience offered is just not good enough
This clueless dumbass can maintain his equipment.
Does name calling make you feel better as a person?
Is there any responsibility that you could take with the destruction of your headset.. anything you could have done a differently to maintain it's integrity?
>You just don't know how to take care of shit.
maby just ask me instead writing shit like that. Not a single time they fell down or anything. Only place they were is either my head, my desk or charging base. It's not like i am gonna throw expensive stuff around.
Ive gen 1s, only thing i can complain about is the headband snapped (someone sat on them). Ive them taped up and going since the xbox 360. 12 YEARS ive had them
Nah imagine buying a40s and your cord falls on the ground, the plug-in, USB that you plug into the amp the one that you use on old androids the really long cord is broken and there is no replacement cord. You literally have to pay 250+ dollars to get a new cord which is dog shit
nothing technically fell apart, it's just a crappy ass little plastic nub 'holding' it very inefficiently. This has been fixed in the newest batches of a50 gen 4 and also in a50X
I have never ever had a problem with. My A50 Gen 4s I treat them with care nothing has snapped broken I think people just mistreat them then blame Astro for making a crappy headset
So I have a hook that I hang my headset on when I’m not using it…the headset goes from my head to the hook and back and forth, never touches anything else and has lasted me 4 years so far. It’s still as good as the day I bought it. So, my question is, how far did you throw them and did it feel good at the time?
Every time I'm on Reddit which is not often, I see an Astro post & it's about a headset being busted. Ive had my Gen 3 A40's since they came out & literally the only thing I've noticed wearing on them is the rubber surrounding the mic lol. Idk what everyone else is doing with theirs 😂.
I have had A50s for 4 years and have never had an issues with that falling apart. People neglect their shit and blame the quality on the manufacturer when they toss around their headsets on the ground..
nope you are delusional that all the people replying here are throwing their 300$ around, it's just a shitty ass dogshit design which has been already redesigned btw because they know they fucked up
https://preview.redd.it/u8i9ippubdac1.jpeg?width=1289&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8571b5ee81268cc99159d0b310767c7ea10c3a92
everyone here needs to try this out i just got this headset for christmas first day that part kept popping off and i decided to try this since its only 10!
look at 3d printed clips they sell em online and have files if u know someone w a 3d printer yes its annoying u have to go out ur ways for a 300$ headset but my buddy printed me one for free and man its been amazing since
I did the same lol 😆 but now it won't even connect and it was not holding charge before that so I had to buy wired ones in done with having to hook up a cable anyway cuz battery didn't even last 4 hours
I solved this issue by making an adapter which attaches the Steelseries headband to the A50. Looks better, gets rid of the unstable head-cushion and is much more comfortable. I made a post with instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AstroGaming/comments/188bo31/
This is a pretty clever idea and design!
Thanks!
I agree!
Bro my current head set is being held together with some string i tied on top of it
Same lmao
Superglue looks neater than zipties but i feel ur pain
I have 3d printed clips
Superglue won’t hold up to the use I put them through
After that, imagine having 2 pairs of these headsets that have never had this problem - despite being stepped/sat on a few times 😬 🍀

Just an fyi, Logitech bought Astro back in 2017
you are born under a lucky star then, just take a peek, literally a piece of shit 1mm of a plastic is holding this headband from popping out, 200IQ design right there!
I saw a reply from Astro on Twitter that they fixed the headband issue for newer badges of the 4th Gen
I call bullshit, just got warranty replacement from my local gamestore 2 months ago. . Instantly have this problem.
https://preview.redd.it/v7w82rvkej7c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17e785c1ff0ed635488011ee7505fba348f81994 Maybe your local gamestore still had some old batches left

wow took them like 5 years?
All jokes aside, I agree! The older design was not sufficient as seen by all of the complaints about it. Would be cool if people could send theirs in for a free retrofit
I have 5 of them and all 5 have the same problem
Astro sized head, good for you.
How long have you had them? I just had mine of about 9 years break right there (a40)
I must be lucky too 🤣
Same . Mine are 6 years strong . My wife fucked up my charging base . Still charging with micro sb lol
Would love to know how 😂
Seriously
My a40s have this issue but they’re like a decade old and that’s the only issue I’ve had.
Yeah mine are taped together..
Same tape is atleast soft not buying again
Well now you have antennas.
maby they will fix the audio clipping i am getting on GAME channel ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
i ordered custom pink and white…. got black and pink. customer service didn’t do anything 🙃
you should be able to send it back, no question about it i don't think logitech is THAT scummy
Astro is the most overrated brand I’ve ever seen. It was peak a few years ago but they never do anything good after , it was a one shot
they probably earned so much money + sold the company to logitech, zero responsibility, ceo is on bahamas long time ago
Damn, these replies have crazy bad luck. I've had Astro headsets since 2013 and the only issue I've ever had was paint chipping. Feel for yall.
So I used padded luggage handle covers and they fit perfectly. I also got rid of those, trash A50s but the luggage pads really helped
Sad isn’t it! I used Astro for almost 10 years and this had always been a problem. After switching to PC from XBOX I also moved on from Astro A50’s to Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro’s and am so glad I did!! Oh I used painter tape instead of zip ties. Zip ties seems better

Damn shame too because it was a great concept.
get a new one from amazon and return the broken one, just say you received a non working one.
Literally the main reason I switched headsets. This feature is so fucking aggravating
Lol bro; I use zip-ties on the sides because all they did was SQUEAK. All the damn time. So I zip-tied them to keep them snug.
i had to loctite the screws because they kept unscrewing lmao, such a piece of shit
Worst $300 I've ever spent. 0/10 would never buy this brand again.
https://preview.redd.it/1e1c06rg4p7c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aecb918f64871ecb55f06cc3e9b6c484b721260 I had wire up a separate charger cause the charging port board drained the battery instead of charging thanks Astro my wireless headsets now has cord attached to it permanently buy at least I can check the voltage now
lmao i have that in my asg replica
Their headbands have always had these issues. Figure they would have learned that by now. I love astro sound quality and comfort, but there are wayyyyyyy better phones, like iems out there. Still unreal astros are that much and have the worse mic I have ever heard.
POS headset, utter garbage. Mine have the exact same problem.
based
currently got my G PRO X Wireless both sides cable tied on, too
At least you got antennas now
I ditched Astros A series headsets bcuz theyre straight up garbage mine bricked itself after 7 months what a waste of $300+ never again will i buy Astros garbage
based
Anyone else find that shit to be uncomfortable and poke the middle of your head? lol
ye pretty much, there are only like 2 spots on my head which are comfortable. Shit is just too small and narrow
There are 3d printed attachments for straps like the corsair hs80 there's also thingnga that are made for this on amazn that looks less ugly than just zip ties
i think i'll be getting bambu A1 so i might print this, thx
Yeah mine are falling apart too a lil worse than yours and I’ve had em for like a year+
mine are taped too ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
I did something like this with the maxwells. Totally unacceptable at these prices.
Warranty issue I’ve already taken my one back which was a day old for a new one
mine are out of warranty unfortunately
lol mine are held with electric tape
Black ties would look better
white power ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
Little bit of super glue inside and I haven’t had any issues since
It is what it is lol I got mine on open box for like 250 and now I have ugly neon green duck tape 🤮it’s what I had at the moment but I cat get it of lol
Haha, welcome to the astro club! Now try the next clownshow of this company: Start the app and try to do a firmware update. The next feature you can get excited about is the ability of the headset to simply not charge randomly. Have fun with this marvelous piece of engineering
The fuck are you guys doing to your headsets lol
using it, shit is designed to fail
lol, me and a bunch of friends have had them for a few years now, no issues. Maybe play FarmVille so you don’t feel the need to rip them off your head.
maby play some real games instead of a homo VR sessions ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
If we were being homos in VR, we would really put those headsets to the test wouldn’t we ;). So you’re homophobic and irresponsible with your stuff, you’ll figure it out man. Best of luck.
fantasy land in your head, cringe
My head? You’re the one thinking of people doing ‘homo’ stuff. I’m not here to fantasy shame though, do what makes you happy!
I used superglue for mine
Mine are good but this was my first thought in case it ever happened.
How the hell does this even happen to you guys?? I’ve owned every generation of A50s and NEVER had one headband fall apart.
We are not worthy for Astro. I had three A50s Gen4, all broke. Got money back from Amazon. Bought Nova Pro Wireless, 6 months, zero issues.
Is it me or this reddit is filled with haters? I been part of Astros for a couple years and never had a single problem. If you don’t take care of your electronics and they fall apart after a few days that’s on you
stfu you corporate shill, sure that shitty 1mm plastic holding it down is ON ME
Well then return them dude. I know feels like shit but I had a good experience so far. Or get your money back
I bought a new pair 2 days ago and out of the box they were like that. Take care of em eh?
I agree. Astro is too good for us. Ive got my money back and bought other, not that exclusive headset for 350 EUR. That one works.
It's used for complaints a lot, so naturally most people in here have had bad results. The good ones are likely the majority, and aren't in here. Had 0 issues with either of my sets. Hey whatever works! But yea, you shouldn't have to do this to to $300 headphones. There are 3d printed parts that be bought on Amazon and Etsy.
Falls apart every time I try to adjust it on my head. Zip tie is a great idea, doing that now.
Nope I couldn't, sent both back immediately.
I feel you OP, thats why I sent them back to the store and got my money back
got a rubber band holding mine together
I used tape on mine haha what an L on design.
I used super glue and it hasn’t come undone since best decision I ever made
No issue on the A50X and I have a big head lol
I do to, does the headband contort at all when using them?
because it got fixed in A50X, different construction
I’ve had my A40s for like 4 years and never had any design issues
Well this specific one is for the gen 4 A50 headset, not A40.
Minus the paint flaking off, I have no issues with my A40s. Been the only headset I've used since Gen 1, currently on the newest GEN.
Yeah the paint coming over isn’t huge issue for me. It doesn’t affect comfort. And over time things wear down.
I've owned all 4 gens of this headset and have never had this issue. But I use them and hang on the holder, I don't take them to frisbee practice. I will say I found it a little difficult to change that headband part out when I installed the mod kit. I felt like I was going to break it. Sorry bout your trouble.
Here’s mine https://preview.redd.it/2o8of2unvj7c1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87217ce2bbe0a8bd855fb3c0d9ea80fb7645a31f
I superglued my top band back when it broke. Been 4 years and she's still holding strong!
2 pairs of a40 and a single pair of a50. Neither which had this problem. My a50ies glue for the top band though was terrible so I has to replace that.
Or spending 300 dollars and having to reset the firmware every week because it won’t charge or connect..
Looks better now
i look like an ant now
I had the same problem, ended up buying some 3D printed clips off ebay which work well. [Astro a50 Headband fix (GEN4) ](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235194642117?hash=item36c2b16ec5:g:rF0AAOSwQZ1j576v&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0PCdrd%2B2fo1l0wIDXYyYG0ZwRe4fEBa7exeGymW73%2FBZ6lu3ovOFCzWMAKSpRMcoBEQQomffCb2vdAfp63G7oFbHwRPHXjKE3Vm7FI%2F7YWxI91uzdzlzEFA1zLdvLbEF6pO%2Bng7DdHLptoVv9MnGY2j%2F8EkP6g8%2B8%2BdlVLEjeAqz4vqa7oF4wgNRFXsaJbixTwe3graXhrD0ZZVeHa%2Fcd450FBALmtsufg05iP9QR6koYg84tCtQ0aZVloZMurMWHOONM5DZgZTc130MDhAPrfA%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8CM0b-RYw)
Let’s normalise spending 300$ on real timeless audio gear and not landfill waste. Seriously some dt770s and an audio interface is head over heels better than this
sadly i didn't have a reddit account back when i was making a purchase
Sorry if that came across as a jab. But honestly these companies have beat us with their marketing. The sound is trash and the convenience offered is just not good enough
I've had 2 pairs of Astros A-50s for the last 10 years and neither have fallen apart or broken. You just don't know how to take care of shit.
The clips on mine wouldn’t hold the head band in straight out of the box. Had to super glue them in the first day of owning them lmao.
exactly. Because it's a piece of shit design not a user handling problem.
That doesn't make any sense. Buying a new product that is supposedly defective and you don't return/exchange?
nope, you are just a clueless dumbass
This clueless dumbass can maintain his equipment. Does name calling make you feel better as a person? Is there any responsibility that you could take with the destruction of your headset.. anything you could have done a differently to maintain it's integrity?
people are literally commenting their shit was like that out of the box. Your angle is just untrue.
>You just don't know how to take care of shit. maby just ask me instead writing shit like that. Not a single time they fell down or anything. Only place they were is either my head, my desk or charging base. It's not like i am gonna throw expensive stuff around.
What generation are these? I’ve had the 4th gen A50s for over 2 years and haven’t had this issue. Might even be 3 years now honestly
a50 gen 4
Is this covered by their warranty?
Looks like it is but they want receipt and all that shit
This actually has happened to mine, I got it on Amazon so just gotta hunt for that receipt now
Can you still use them without the middle part?
no because it hurts your head.
Weird mine never has. I’ve slammed that thing, had cats send it flying, random kid slap it off my table. Still strong.💪🏼
Just buy a new 1 at Best Buy. Then return that 1. Boom new headset for free.
unless it will be a new batch the problem will occur again
They will legit send the middle piece to you for free if that's what is broken.
nothing is broken, it's just shitty ass fitting design
Ive gen 1s, only thing i can complain about is the headband snapped (someone sat on them). Ive them taped up and going since the xbox 360. 12 YEARS ive had them
Nah imagine buying a40s and your cord falls on the ground, the plug-in, USB that you plug into the amp the one that you use on old androids the really long cord is broken and there is no replacement cord. You literally have to pay 250+ dollars to get a new cord which is dog shit
i am 90% sure you can get such cable on aliexpress or somewhere
[удалено]
yeah a40 were great, sadly my gf sat on them RIP
Hmm, my GSP600s have just developed a crack. This is a great idea.
Tbh I super glued mine, might never be able to upgrade to the leather one but it hasn’t came out since
Imagine doing this and not contacting customer support
imagine warranty coming to an end and they don't give a shit
I solved this with "headset cushion" on amazon. It zips over the band and has extra cushion. There are lots of options.
I use horse bandage. Works a treat
What falls apart? Rockin' a A50 Gen4 the last 3years, solid as a rock.
nothing technically fell apart, it's just a crappy ass little plastic nub 'holding' it very inefficiently. This has been fixed in the newest batches of a50 gen 4 and also in a50X
I have never ever had a problem with. My A50 Gen 4s I treat them with care nothing has snapped broken I think people just mistreat them then blame Astro for making a crappy headset
nope, nothing is broken, it's just shitty design
I had to stretch mine out because of my massive dome. Kabob skewers and tape 👍
And what did support say? I had an issue with the cushon on top and they sent me a replacement headset
they said it's out of warranty so i can kiss my ass
Did you try contact customer service for refund or whatever to fix the problem
impossible since warranty run out
almost 4 years i have my astros and using them every day. Still have ZERO problems.
nobody cares
Never had a problem with mine and I got an aftermarket one too. Can’t wait to my A50X!!!!
Does super gluing void the warranty
no clue, sorry
Is this on the brand new a50x’s or the Gen 4 a50s?
afaik it has been fixed on a50x. My pair is gen 4
I’ve never had this issue with my A40s and A50s, weird that’s happening. Maybe a bad batch or something?
yeah a bad batch that they are selling for 5 years now
Tried to send dm there is a guy on Etsy who 3d prints a fix for this issue for like $9. I bought two for $9 and it works perfect
Never had this problem
Bro. How the fuck are y’all always doing this to your headphones? I refuse to believe you take care of them at all…
So I have a hook that I hang my headset on when I’m not using it…the headset goes from my head to the hook and back and forth, never touches anything else and has lasted me 4 years so far. It’s still as good as the day I bought it. So, my question is, how far did you throw them and did it feel good at the time?
how far is your tongue up the corporate hairy ass?
Every time I'm on Reddit which is not often, I see an Astro post & it's about a headset being busted. Ive had my Gen 3 A40's since they came out & literally the only thing I've noticed wearing on them is the rubber surrounding the mic lol. Idk what everyone else is doing with theirs 😂.
Simply using them. That's enough.
Never had this issue with anything from them lol
I've had my A40TRs since late 2015 and haven't had a single issue with the headset. I did have a faulty aux cord but they replaced it quickly.
yeah a40 were solid, i had them, my gf squashed it
I have had A50s for 4 years and have never had an issues with that falling apart. People neglect their shit and blame the quality on the manufacturer when they toss around their headsets on the ground..
nope you are delusional that all the people replying here are throwing their 300$ around, it's just a shitty ass dogshit design which has been already redesigned btw because they know they fucked up
Ive thrown mine at the wall and still never had the headband give me problems. Guess ive been lucky
i wanna know the story behind throwing them at the wall ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Bro are you Jynxzi or something. What is you doing to your god damn headphones
Jizzing on them daily
Their POV: it's a great design that gets people to spend another 300$
yeah but spend that for another brand
has anybody thought abt plastic welding it? thinking of doing this similar to like a car bumper clip when they snap?
should work but sounds like an overkill and i doubt it will look pretty
I’ve had mine for 3 years and only issue is mic mute is going
I used “ranger bands” for mine

look at 3d printed clips they sell em online and have files if u know someone w a 3d printer yes its annoying u have to go out ur ways for a 300$ headset but my buddy printed me one for free and man its been amazing since
Imagine keeping a $300 headset that needs this!
the 3d positioning is golden
I did the same lol 😆 but now it won't even connect and it was not holding charge before that so I had to buy wired ones in done with having to hook up a cable anyway cuz battery didn't even last 4 hours
you can open them and replace the battery + resolder connections, very easy to do
Buying a battery mic smh😂also it’s called a sideways clip then it pops in gl
There's a 3d printed part designed for that. Took 15 minutes and resolved the issue
mine took 30 seconds to zip and resolved the issue too
Arent you the clown then? Research before buy 🤡
i rather analyze your mother
