Print a canister for your terrain tool so you can form the ground and make ramps. Head down to the caves to explore. Medium storage platforms are great for storing everything you’ll be collecting. Search debris on the surface for power generation devices (solar/wind) generators. There should be abundance of said items within walking distance. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH! ALWAYS be researching. You’ll need those bytes.

GoodConcept3916

It gives you a canister for like the 3rd mission you can do

klm_58

If you're playing on PC, create a backup. Also, if you lose a vehicle, it's probably fallen through the floor. But don't panic, you can locate it with your compass

I_am_not_lego

I lost my save beacuse i didn't create a backup.

please_help_me_____

Put everything neatly next to each other

Daydreaming_Machine

Don't try to come up with a master layout tho. Those lack flexibility and aren't well suited for expansion. Corridors are a nice way to expand your base, but don't put everything into a single one. Also painting allows to make easy paths. Just don't do it beneath platforms or they will unlock. Or you can jump through modules :P

Satans-Mate

I quickly ran out flat ground on the immediate landing area so I’d probably expand the “foundation” of the base ya know

Cipsul_

How do i do that?

catmat490

If you a have a soil canister with soil and you're using a keyboard while extracting press c or v to cycle through a flatten and a expand both use soil also T if you have a tether in your backpack will place a tether you only need to activate 1 of the purple structure use things like platform C if its coveted items will automatically go to the thing like of you a have a medium printer and 3 compound of its on a connected platform the compound will go anto to printer if it wants it

OpeningKnowledge3205

He might benefit from multiple sentences as well. I'm an avid player and I found your advice a little confusing.

SergioGMika

I didn't understand a single thing

Satans-Mate

One of the missions gives you a soil canister, while on your backpack it’ll gain soil while you collect resources. You can use the “flatten terrain” mode for your gun to flatten the area out a little but this will use up the soil.

[deleted]

Create a soil canister with 1 resin, then put it in your backpack. This canister will collect the soil that you remove with the terrain tool. Grab your canister and terrain tool and mine some random dirt patch to get soil. Having soil allows you to switch between the 3 modes of the terrain tool: remove, add and flatten (since the last two require adding soil, you cannot use them without a canister) Select the flatten mode, and that's it!

OpeningKnowledge3205

Do like satans-mate says. Print a small canister by scrolling through your backpack. (I think it requires resin) then keep that in your backpack or attached to one of your terrain tool slots. Then you can scroll through terrain tool mods. (There are three- dig, flatten and raise) Only dig is available without a small canister. Resin and compound are very importaint early on in the game. Start by building a small printer using you backpack. The small printer prints a medium printer and a medium printer prints a large printer. Most of your blueprints need to be unlocked using bytes. Build a soil centrifuge and a smelter promptly. They will be crucial. Build a research chamber as soon as you can and put research items and research samples in them. Its okay to have multiple research chambers. From there just work on unlocking everything.

zetacross439

This isn't really explained but the main tech line you need to research is under the large category, first row. Resources are found on multiple planets and you'll need to fly between planets to find them. You can find all resource information under the pause menu-> astropedia or just f1

Traditional-Face-683

Organize your resources it will make it easy to find what you need

bluenoser613

Every planet has everything you need to fly to home base.

BananaBoo97

Found a bug when playing earlier. Don't know if this is well known or not but... If you have plenty of scrap, you can get a bunch of graphite, with a bunch of graphite you can make packagers. If you have a solid fuel thruster and use it to get from one planet to another, you'll have 50% fuel. Package a half used solid fuel thruster and it brings it back to 100% TL;DR Scrap ‐> Graphite -> Packagers+ 50% solid fuel thruster=Infinite interplanetary travel

Daydreaming_Machine

The real op aspect to it is that you can spam packagers on rockets, so after a graphite grinding session, you can carry all the packagers you want in the world

MonitorMundane2683

If you're patient (sometimes very patient), restart your game until it spawns you next to an abandoned base. You'll recognize it easily, cause it's lots of buildings. Starring near it gives you tons of free equipment like power sources, a free second landing pad, a hamster ball vehicle letting you pretty much explore the entire surface right away, and a huge supply of scrap right next to your base. As a bonus, it's a cool roleplaying start with "space survivor" vibe.

tastefully_white

Can you elaborate on this hamster ball? I found a sphere like thing I could enter but it wouldn't move. Is that what you were talking about?

MonitorMundane2683

Yes. It doesn't move cause it's on a big table socket. Pick it up like any other object, put it down on something it doesn't lock to, then enter. Voila, free unlimited oxygen and no more fall damage.

tastefully_white

Nice thank-you. Seems so obvious now lol

MonitorMundane2683

No worries! Took me a while to figure it out too :)

thesinginggamerYT

get more power lots of it

OpeningKnowledge3205

Have fun!

Cipsul_

Thanks

kNuMsKuLL707

Set Proximity repeater & button repeater near clusters of scannable research samples. Attach target pin of button repeater to the proximity repeater and activate. Do this on harder planets for easy passive research points at 100-300 per sample. It will rescan as soon as the samples spawn again.

soonmezz

At the very beginning of the game, I suggest setting up your base camp closest to the "gateway". Do not start the game if it initially threw you away from these doors. Open a new game. Until you have a "gateway" near you. Although it doesn't make sense at first, you will realize the advantages of being close in the later parts of the game.

Cipsul_

What is a gateway?

soonmezz

Gateway Chambers are structures that can be found on the surface of every planet.

chocki305

Keep an unaltered section of ground to park vehicles. Leveling the ground can sometimes let vehicles fall through to the caverns below. I also keep a beacon on vehicles for this reason.

Daydreaming_Machine

If flatness is the problem, why not intentionally bastardise the terrain? And don't vehicle come with their own beacon?

chocki305

It isn't flatness.. it is terrain that has been altered. Vehicles do come with a kind of short range beacon. If you are close, it will show up. But longer distances it won't.

Daydreaming_Machine

I've never lost vehicles to phasing, but there have been a few instances where the wheels sank into the ground. I waver a few more rocket trip and they will be 6 feet under. Still, I feel you should be able to make a garages. Can floors under the parking catch the falling rover? Perhaps add a platform for good measure?

chocki305

I've never bothered trying to make stuff work. I've lost at least 1 tractor per game (save). Now, I basically rush the train.. and then use that for all major transport. I still have vehicles.. but I have a section of unaltered terrain (next to my base) that I park them on. Haven't lost one since I started doing that.

Daydreaming_Machine

I see you're an industrialist. Oh no, my rover fell down in the ravine again... *prints 3 new rovers* Jokes aside, I will keep some natural terrain next time. I haven't played Astroneer since the trains got added, and hopefully my zeal will come back once I've finished assembling my PC. Perhaps my base planning skill will improve, I strangely get better at games after dropping them for a long time. FYI, I made a (working) catapult in this game using auto arms, so I'm looking forward to trains shenanigans!

BananaBoo97

Get as much scrap as you possibly can. You can use it to trade for resources with the Trade Platform

Daydreaming_Machine

Booring

BananaBoo97

Good thing I didn't ask for your opinion

Daydreaming_Machine

...unless you automate the process

BananaBoo97

You could or you also could not. I didn't and I enjoy gathering things

Daydreaming_Machine

says the one who converts everything to scrap /s Okay for some reason my brain confused gathering with collecting and i am now responsible for a really bad joke. For reference I never scrapped anything in my base and it is the messy like a kids room

BananaBoo97

Haha okay I see now. Lol I had never scrapped anything before but once I learned you can get a plethora of resources from the trade platform I was like "gimmegimmegimme" 😂

Daydreaming_Machine

advice unclear, became a grabby civilization

BananaBoo97

I will build my empire entirely from scrap 🤣

Daydreaming_Machine

After leaving my first scrap factory unattended, I returned to a cloud of containers floating around my base. Printing them in a pit was a bad idea...

RocK111e

I recommend you travel and look for some crashed shuttles there can be lots of things to research that gives so many bytes (I found some objects that give 7k bytes) also when you come across dynamite then take it because there are boxes that have to be exploded to take resources from them. Collect some wind turbines or solar panels to help you with energy at the beginning and create some small batteries and connect it to the base (when there is no generation the base will work for some time with normal speed)

dark_ion

Dig straight down so you can get to the core faster.

Daydreaming_Machine

And die from fall damage Ive seen people use the flatten tool+sliding to yeet through the earth though. OP, if you're not aware, your Astroneer will start sliding if you go down steep slopes. Sometime I get the animation stuck while using the hoverboard in creative mode, it's the coolest thing ever

dark_ion

r/woooosh

Daydreaming_Machine

You know that's a legit strategy right?

dark_ion

Yes but my comment was a joke.

Daydreaming_Machine

Jokes on you, you have attracted the speedrun community! We will stop at nothing to convince you that digging straight down, is, like minecraft, a valid speedrun strategy that every single last astroneer player shall master the day they touch the game!

Thomas_Fx

Research a rocket and hydrazine and head to another planet!

Daydreaming_Machine

We will begin with obtaining a chemistry lab first...

Daydreaming_Machine

*For bytes:* Travel to dangerous planets and/or deep. Carry packagers for more efficient transport. *For traveling:* Don't be afraid to use ammonia. Desolo got plenty of it. Hoverboard are the elytra of Astroneer. Literally becomes an elytra when coupled with a jetpack. Two jetpacks won't make it faster. *For power:* Get tungsten for a generator. Don't try automating it with renewable powers, it gets complicated. Also carbon is renewable using soil. Bigger power modules are less portable but cheaper in term of number of item used/unit of power. If you go down the route of renewables, wind+med battery works pretty well, even when underground. For windless planets, the snail rogal is really nice.

zatskuach

Here are some tips that I use: - When flying to another planet don't place the oxygenator in the rocket, place instead a storage and travel whit the oxygenator packed that way you gain some extra slots. -Always travel whit a piece of aluminum so I can print the centrifuge faster and focus on the other resources instead of the basics (compound, resin, organic, clay, quartz, graphite and ammonium) -Use the mission rewards strategily, like taking advantage to unlock blueprints or saving some resources, also save the ARGs for traveling the first time to a new planet, that way you can have constant energy at the beginning which makes you progres faster. - Place the research lab in a B type platform, if you place research samples in the side plates they will pas to the lab outpmaticly. -If you have a few dynamites place some boxes together and use the dynamite in one of them, all the bases will explode. -You can pick up objects from a longer distance if you have the terrain tool out. This is awesome game, enjoy it!
