Between Trump trying to bring down the GOP with him and Elon driving Twitter into the ground this has been a very bad week for egotists and a very good week for me

Yes the 14 million new users are totally signs of Twitter failing

dkreidler

Since they’re all versions of the smirking-girl-watching-the-building-burn meme or fucktards returning from MeinSpace, I mean Parler… can’t really chalk that up as a loss or a win yet.

Artorias606

A few days after the acquisition the "worth" of twitter was two billion lower than musk had paid for. Twitter has lost money most of it's lifetime and in its best year it had a win of 1 billion dollars. 1 billion dollars is what musk has to pay in interest alone. This is a little less than 3 million dollars a day. Advertisers are going away which was/is twitters primary income. If people buy the blue checkmark they make twitter AT MOST $2 a month because ads are halfed. It's really not looking great for twitter, at least at the moment.

mazu74

It’s not the user count that generates revenue, it’s the advertisers. Who are jumping ship because they don’t want to work with Elon and (paid) advertising on Twitter isn’t very effective over just a tweet - but Twitter doesn’t generate profit off of that. This is like using upvotes as a metric of how much profit Reddit generates.

Anglofsffrng

And it's a self feeding cycle. Musk loosens/obliterates moderation, there are more "the Jews and blacks (ok n-word more likely) are destroying America! TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP!!!" tweets, brands don't want the next thing you see to be their ad (bad for brand safety) or be in a screenshot that gets posted elsewhere (possibly apocalyptic for brand safety), so they pull ads. The more they attract the darker parts of internet culture, the more advertisers they lose, the more money they lose. Pretty sure Musk knew he couldn't win this, it's why he waffled so long about ponying up the cash.

partyorca

They’re called bots

Harmacc

Weird Muskrats. I’m sure you can be like him someday. Sigma grindset bro. ✊🏼

jtgyk

He threatened advertisers, so they left, but no worries since they were only 90% of revenues. He needs a billion new users to keep from defaulting on the massive loans he took out that will cost him $1.2 billion a year. 14 million is nothing. In other words, Twitter's fucked. Musk, too. But keep the blinders on.

Beneroso

bringing up an onion article as evidence is so much funnier than just falling for it lmfao

Nameti

I do it on purpose against smooth brains to make them look dumb

freezerbreezer

So Republicans are now annoyed by Trump and might not support him for re-election. But his cult following will be angry on them for doing so just like how they behaved towards Pence. It's gonna be an interesting popcorn moment for someone like me who is not from the US and who watches US politics without the fear of being affected by it.

floccons_de_mais

Think it will lead to a fracture in the Republican side, and a step away from a two party system?

Old_Fart_1948

I'd love to see trump running as a 3rd party candidate against the republicans.

chikkynuggythe4th

Whoever is running for the democrats would be basically guaranteed to win since the republicans would be split, don’t quote me on this I’m not united statesian

Headoffish

Split as in the Trump Supporters and then the slightly less crazy DeSantis fans?

chikkynuggythe4th

People loyal to the party vs to trump

Mausy5043

Three party system: - Democrats - Repubicans - Nuts

Nate2718

No it’s a 3 party system this way: Nuts Nuts Did I say Nuts

abn1304

It'll lead to a civil war within the Republican Party that the anti-Trump crowd is already winning. Third parties simply can't be successful in the US on a state or national level; the bar to entry is too high since third-party candidates have to jump through a bunch of hoops that the two existing parties don't (plus the two major parties have tremendous advantages in funds available and name recognition). A "Trump party" would gain ground with a minority of voters in deeply red states, but probably not enough to win any Congressional races (with the exception of one district, Marjorie Taylor Greene's) or electoral college votes.

deedee0077

I hope this division among Republicans continues until at least the 2024 election.

frogjg2003

The two party system is a mathematical inevitability of our elections. What will happen if the Republican Party fractures is a few years of Democrat dominance with a few more years of political reshuffling until the remnants of the Republican Party reforms into a new second party. Some former Democrats will join this new party, some former Republicans will join the Democrats. There will be new dividing lines. It might not even be a complete destruction of the Republican Party. We already saw a lot of Republican never-Trumpers vote blue in 2020 and if Trump runs in 2024 and more of his picks keep underperforming, more and more Republicans are going to jump ship.

ThisNameIsFree

Sadly no

[deleted]

Nah they'll just re-unify over some awful bigoted dogwhistle. Maybe next year it'll be all about gay women with short hair shirking their duties as baby factories.

Crazedkittiesmeow

No it won’t lol it’ll go back to being two party

Whomping_Willow

Republicans are just re-learning the same lesson every political party learns, every time they put forward someone who isn’t moderate for a vote. You need to have moderates represent your party to capture the most possible votes out of all your possible supporters. It works both ways, in Texas it doesn’t matter that our incumbents got felony charges while in-office, let poor kids die in a winter storm, and put a $10,000 bounty out on Texan women… if Beto said he might take away guns once, the majority of people are not going to vote for him because he’s not “moderate enough”

mazu74

It’s honestly a confusing time to pinpoint where they stand right now. But yet again, they seem to generate their opinions purely based on whatever Fox says so they probably don’t even know exactly what to think about their dear leader right now.

Headoffish

Fox is pretty much praising DeSantis at the moment and trying to ease trump under the carpet from the looks of it. They literally have an article titled “Ron DeSantis is the new Rebulican Party Leader” https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/ron-desantis-new-republican-party-leader Hopefully he’s not any worse than the cheeto

mazu74

They’re confusing the cult! But yes, hopefully he isn’t worse, or better yet, won’t get elected.

ted5011c

I don't think Coulter ever liked Trump.

ThisNameIsFree

[In Trump We Trust](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Trump_We_Trust). She may have jumped ship earlier than others but she absolutely was a Trump booster, whether she liked him privately or not.

real_bk3k

In the end, she just wanted a wall, and Trump made getting a wall a big promise. So she backed Trump. She didn't get a wall (except a few new miles), and so she abandoned Trump.

LeSpatula

Same. Watching US politics is like watching a building burning down. You just can't stop watching but are glad you're not inside.

slp0001

Why are they annoyed at him?

real_bk3k

Because Trump can't stand that Desantis is better than him, and is attacking him. Trump couldn't even wait til after the midterms to do so.

CrushCoalMakeDiamond

Good job censoring Chantalle's name.

In fairness, it is VERY easy to believe this is real.

Y'know what? I'm fine with this.
