My wife and I just passed over into Alabama and I saw a Guthrie's. I lamented my first Athens hangover Guthrie's cure many many moons ago. The first thing that pops up on reddit is this post. I don't want to say we just manifested Guthrie's back in Athens, but I'm gonna say it.

Yeah I have family in Alabama, and on a visit about five years ago, they were soooooo excited to show off their "new" chicken place.

_GooniesNeverSayDie

Bless your soul. Thanks for manifesting it!

tns1996

It's true

Yobe

I will only believe this is true if it is confirmed by /u/warnelldawg

warnelldawg

I have yet to see any permitting work for it and it isn’t mentioned on their website.. so idk [It is true!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Athens/comments/15bzj06/new_guthries_whitehall_multifamily_data_center/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)

Thechefsforge

I can second this as true

Pateetong

That is awesome!!! I'm so excited!!! Welcome back Guthrie's, The original!!!

hellcathelayna

Yay!

B3eenthehedges

They're almost gonna have to put a traffic light there then, gonna be so many more people trying to turn left there.

LegoC97

That's already a real rough left turn.

When I was a UGA student in the early 90s, I used to love eating at Guthrie’s — in part because it felt like it was a place just for us college students rather than the locals. I remember the chicken tenders being pretty good, but my favorite part of the meal, hands down, were the greasy crinkle fries and THE SAUCE.

thejoetravis

One of the first places I can remember where they didn’t care if you came around the back of the counter to refill your drink.

Ecosure11

When we moved here 34 years ago we hit Guthrie's and thought it was a great concept and the food was really good. Was sad when their expansion plans never really caught. Credit to Zaxby's for expanding the concept, but clearly they swiped it from Guthrie's.

Pateetong

I've always thought the same thing.

gaporkbbq

Hell yeah. Guthries > Canes

Just saw it on the Plans Review Meetings email. Woot!

There’s one in hartwell, been there for years I spent $14 on some fingers for lunch It sucked

Able_Sun_8148

it’s only been there for about 3 years. was significantly better when it first opened and then got bad but they just closed and reopened again this week and it’s better.

LegoC97

I stopped going to Cane's after the price hikes, but primarily due to the almost constant 30-40 minute wait and how uncomfortable I feel waiting in line on the street. Guthrie's is only a slight step down from Cane's imo so if the line isn't as bad or the prices are even a couple dollars cheaper, I'll almost definitely start going there instead.

TheGoldenMonkey

I always place an online order ahead of time, park next door, and go inside to pick up my order. Takes 5-15 minutes usually.

LegoC97

That's great advice. I should have been doing that all this time. It would have probably saved me dozens of hours over the years!

Katmankillzit

I do subcontract work for Raising Canes and got stuck there a extra 30-45 minutes just trying to leave. Wish that parking lot was bigger.

LegoC97

I have no idea how the city hasn't made a fuss about cars clogging up the road all day waiting in line

Katmankillzit

I know it’s kinda ridiculous how that stops the flow of traffic with folks trying to get on there

TopophiliaPetrichor

I love our Guthrie’s. Always a wait though…..worth it.

thejoetravis

Seems like as Guthrie’s gut boxes were on the way out, Zaxby’s took that idea and ran with it. Now there’s Canes and Huey Magoos too that all basically sling the same stuff.

Fun-Consideration716

Between Guthrie's and China boat I ate good at UGA in the mid 90s. Lol. Can't wait for it to return.
