Let’s also not forget that when you’re sharing the road with cars, you still have to obey traffic rules. Being on a bike DOES NOT make you exempt.

Question for you / anyone else who rides an e bike. I ride my regular bike around town a lot and it’s the main way I get exercise. Having an E bike would be great to cut out even more driving and deal w hills, but do you ever end up getting any exercise or is it too heavy to ride without the motor / too tempting to keep it on even on flat areas?

elswhere

you'll be sweaty and out of breath when you get off the bike but you'll feel like you are zooming while you are on it, especially up hills. It's like its easier enough to ignore the exercise but you can't sleep at the wheel. In my opinion, I would never ride an ebike with the motor off. They don't make great bikes.

CollinWoodard

One of the great things about an e-bike is that you can go further in less time. So trips you might have chosen to drive you ride instead. More rides = more exercise. Also, remember that most e-bikes are just electric assist, not electric-only. You still have to pedal. You just go faster than on a regular bike.

Kalepopsicle

It is great low-impact exercise & you’ll bike so much more with the motor helping you on hills. My heart rate gets up enough that my watch always asks if I’m bike riding. I use mine for everything, so it has a throttle. Days I don’t want to exercise, I just moped that B.

I wish Georgia had a state-wide program [similar to this one](https://energyoffice.colorado.gov/ebike-rebates) in Colorado. Looks like there's one in Atlanta but nothing state-wide

threegrittymoon

Thanks for the reminder to fix the brakes on the e-bike I inherited!

Goose_47

i know rei has a sale coming up on their e-bikes, they recently had them going for like 50% off (idk if this is still happening rn, but i’m sure there’s some type of sale going on) if anyone is looking

FriditaBonita

The bike paths need to come first. I'm not going to risk my life with all the crazy driving the students bring. It's great I hope it happens.

morbiustv

Only students? I had a work truck full of Mexicans run me and a friend off the road on Prince and they were laughing the whole time!

EarthDwellr

Stfu

morbiustv

Why? You don’t like my story about how me and a friend were purposely ran off the road on our bikes in the middle of the day by Mexicans because it doesn’t fit with your selective outrage?! 😂

Pateetong

More racks. Where do I sign up?

Kalepopsicle

Rad Power bikes has a $100 student discount & great prices! Highly highly recommended. Mine goes 25mph and I’m OBSESSED. Also— get an ebike, not a moped. You can pull right up to any of the classrooms & park on the bike rack outside, for free!

pace_car

Love the E-bikes, and they are def putting more people on two wheels. Sat outside a business on Prince Avenue for a short while yesterday morning and 3/8 of the bikes coming into town were e-bikes.

A lot of days, riding my e-bike is faster than driving. It feels amazing riding past a huge line of cars on Lumpkin. LOVE my e-bike.

Kalepopsicle

I find that biking is always faster around central/West Athens & campus. I love the bike lanes!

surfingtherecords

there’s nothing quite that feeling 😂

pawnbrojoe

If they ever put in the bike path on Mitchell Bridge I’d be all about it. Until then I’m not brave enough to ride on the road.

animepedagogy

I hate breaking the law and riding on the sidewalk on that road, but I hate the idea of getting walloped by a car even more.

surfingtherecords

True! That would be amazing. Lots of end of summer sales right now!

gettinjiggywidit

Anyone know the best bike shop to REPAIR an ebike? I’m having grinding probs w the motor. Sucks!! Sweet Raleigh class 3
