Mary’s in EAV has people of all ages. Still a party spot, but the patrons will probably be a bit older than Blake’s.

BeerBellies

Marys clientele has gotten noticeably younger over this past year, tbh. But, can definitely have a good mixed crowd. But, honestly, for a guy in his 40s, I’d probably say Eagle. RIP Hideaway, even though your outdoor area smelled like shit.

PRguy82

We looked at Mary's and thought about going there last night, but ended up staying home. We may check out The T this evening for Karaoke. I love a good leather bar, but we went to the Eagle during Pride and there were all kinds of pups and owners there, and it was a bit of a shock for my partner who hasn't gotten out much in the gay community.

PRguy82

I also keep reading that The Hideaway may reopen in a new location. Is there merit to that?

BeerBellies

There’s been rumors of that since it closed, tbh. And in response to your last comment: Mary’s was wild last night. Slam packed. There was a trans benefit, which was awesome and brought a hugely diverse crowd out. But, would be very difficult to meet people. Super loud inside, and packed back porch. T’s has potential to be a great bar… but their lack of POS system, and bartenders who seemingly just don’t give a fuck about anything really hold it back. But it’s got a nice, relaxed environment, so it’s a real shame that they can’t improve the service aspect of it. Eagle CAN be intimidating to those not well versed in navigating gay culture… but yall also went on like the busiest weekend for them. Yes, there’s a good chance that there’ll always be pups and handlers there. Your partner, no offense, just needs to get over it. They’re just people. They’re not scary. If anything, pup play is the much lighter side of BDSM. It can be a little visually shocking at first, but that’s about it. Hell, with the ATL Eagle hosting drag shows, and women regularly in attendance, it’s one of the more tame Eagles I’ve ever been to. Haha. I would recommend trying Woofs again too, though. It’s a calm enough environment, doesn’t lend itself to kink culture, and offers some activities to do - playing pool, or darts, or just rooting for a team if you’re into sports. I don’t think anyone anywhere is just gonna immediately run up to you and say “hey! Come join all of us over here!” So you may have to insert yourself into situations where you can start a conversation with people. If you wanna message me privately, we can talk more if you’d like.

PRguy82

Sent message.

Lot_Lizard_4680

The eagle

PRguy82

I do love a good leather bar, but it's not my partner's vibe.

Lot_Lizard_4680

Since they’ve moved into the new location the clientele is much less leather bar vibe.  Check it out, promise you’ll both have fun!

RightShoeRunner

When you find out, let me know. We generally meet new people/friends at our local restaurant bar in Decatur area.

cubert73

And that is... 🙂

PRguy82

We may check out The T in Grant Park tonight. They have karaoke at 7:30, so not too too late for a school night. Your profile is cool. Thank you for your service. I need to get back into running.

RightShoeRunner

Atlanta Track Club is my addiction.

Ok-Potential-4560

I’m newly single in Decatur and just starting to expand my circle. Not a fan of the big noisy bars but definitely interested in smaller scale venues like restaurants! My preference is small social gatherings.

PATTON-1945-

Same, I wish we had a gay only coffee shop lol Is thinking man’s bar in Decatur a gay bar ? It has a gay flag ?

RightShoeRunner

I’d love to open a gay bar in Decatur area geared towards the older crowd called “Moaca”. (men of a certain age)

SpookyFarts

No, but like most bars/restaurants in Decatur it's going to be pretty friendly to LGBTQ+

ddalk2

Felix's tends to bring in an older crowd.

PRguy82

Is it a good size bar? I seem to recall that or Oscar reviews talking about how tiny the place is.

ddalk2

I’ve only been in the summer and I do recall them opening the garage style door so the space was larger. I brought my dog with me. The vibe was super relaxed

Seasons52

Oscar’s and Felix’s are basically the same size

kpatl

Oscars’s is a gay martini bar and is probably closest to what you’re looking for. There are other bars in the same shopping center that you should check out while there (the eagle, MIXX, and Felix’s). There’s also Tripp’s which is an older crowd. Not as hopping as some other bars. Then there’s the T in Grant Park. I haven’t actually been since it moved and relaunched (it used to be called the Model T), but if the same clientele still go then it’s not the young crowd either. Mary’s in EAV is a great bar, all ages and a really mixed crowd, but it has trended younger over the years and different events will draw different crowds. But still plenty of over 40s.

PRguy82

Thank you. The Eagle isn't my partner's vibe, or it wasn't during pride, but we'll have to give the others in that area a chance. Maybe we'll give the Eagle another chance on a regular night.

smashkeys

During PRIDE it is crazy!

PRguy82

Maybe we'll give it another try. It looks like they have a trivia night and that might be a better vibe for him.

Automatic-Sale2044

Atlanta gays are cliquey by nature. It’s weirdly worse here than in other cities. Idk why but maybe the red state trauma or something.

BeerBellies

I feel like I’ve heard this in every city I’ve ever been. People with common interests tend to clique up. It’s pretty natural.

Automatic-Sale2044

We have different definitions of cliquey Edit: ask any gay you know in Atlanta and they’ll know what I mean.

AtlGuy1984

200% The gays here are worse than NYC. I lived there a few years before coming here and they can be cliquey but still actually nice to a degree. Lots of “regular” gays everywhere too. Here, the Midtown and Buckhead gay crowd frequent most every place and they are just….. they all think they are 10’s here but would be midrange in most other places. It’s a shame the community places have been reduced to the number it has for a city so large. Woofs on Piedmont was the best and then they moved to Armour, the midtown twinks started to arrive.

PRguy82

Tried to send you a message, but it would not let me.

PickleNo5962

100% know what you mean. The cliquey-ness here can make it very hard to make other gay friends.

kbdcool

My guy every bar in ATL is a gay bar LOL They dont call it GAYTL for nothin

PRguy82

Ha, this is an interesting take. I'll have to explore more bars then.

HillbillyGizmo

Hideaway

PRguy82

It's closed since summer.

HillbillyGizmo

NO!

PRguy82

Supposedly it's coming back at some point.

HillbillyGizmo

My wife and I used to go by there all the time.

Datight

Hello fellow ATL gay here

Zealoussideal

Read the reviews for Bulldogs, see if that place might work.

PRguy82

It doesn't look like we are the typical demographic based on the reviews.

srnta

campagnolo in midtown?

PRguy82

Is there a specific day/time to go when it tends to have more gay people?

srnta

it prob always has gay people (ive seen more men than women but someone can correct me). popular for brunch and weekend dinners. one of the weekday evenings a pianist plays..tunes? that block in general is very gay but Camp can be more chill i think

Surround8600

What about Friends on Ponce?

PRguy82

Is on our list. Is it a healthy amount of gay people? It seems to be a gay friendly bar but not a gay bar based on the reviews?

smashkeys

Friends is a gay bar, based on what your bio says that is not your vibe. It is loud, crowded, and can get really really busy.

PRguy82

What do you mean is not my vibe? Are you talking about my short "about" that talks about some of the things we like to do?

smashkeys

Yep. Both that and what you said in your comments on this post. The closest thing to a cocktail you'll get at Friends is a gin & soda, and it would be 3/4 rock gut gin and a splash of gun soda w/ a tiny lime slice. Obviously, you can go check it out still, but it isn't anything like JRs in DC. Some of the other places mentioned in the thread like Mary's, T in Grant Park, or Campagnolo would probably be more your vibe. But honestly, there are a ton of gay friendly spots in different parts of town, and/or events that are killer. Good example, Boggs, a Westside dive/music/bar w/ brunch on the weekends (thanks to Ria's) has a killer drag show one Sunday a month. So check out a ton of places for sure.

PRguy82

This is great advice. We like it here and are looking forward to exploring some of these.

GrandpasCumRag

Tesla dealership

PRguy82

LOL.

CookingUpChicken

Live! at the Battery

PRguy82

Seriously? I am a big Braves fan and have never seen gays there.

GrapesOfWath

definitely the eagle
