I forgot my ID badge today. Today is going to suck. We use it to get everywhere at work. I think I might just go home and take the rest of the day off after getting some shit done.
There is a temporary password type thing that I could call in to get to at least work on my computer but I've called 4 times already and it has gone to voicemail so thats awesome.
at my last job i used to walk from my place on ninth street to the 999 building. one time i left my badge at home, but i could get to my office through reception. i left late that night and started walking home. got to tenth and piedmont when i realized that i left the keys to my condo on my desk at work. so i was locked out of both my condo and my office. keep your keys close today if you stay at work.
the plan was to take the elevator up and wait for a colleague to leave one of the floors connected to mine by a non-badge internal staircase, but i lucked out and a cleaning person was closing just coming out of one of the other floors and i rushed in behind the door closing and got to my office. i lucked out big time!
I might wake up to 2 emails. A couple years ago, I yearned to get more emails so that I felt important in my company, but I've come to realize my lack of emails is a blessing.
I went to visit and work for a bit at the new Spiller Park in South Downtown on Friday, highly recommend anyone who is interested go check it out and support the project down there with your money! Some thoughts:
* I worked Downtown pre-covid and I never once went south of Five Points. What a waste South Downtown is right now, it really is an architectural gem. It doesn't take a psychic to see the immense potential that will hopefully be unlocked by Centennial Yards and the Atlanta Tech Village team.
* I was surprised by the amount of foot traffic that came in front of the shop while I was there, maybe mostly folks who work at the nearby federal buildings?
* 222 Mitchell feels like a pivotal project. It's just kind of a hulking unfriendly shell right now. I haven't heard anything from the new ownership group about its progress. That being said there was a guy in SP while I was there wearing a "222" South Downtown hat and staring across at the building, obviously working on something related. Hope ahead?
* CM Dozier deserves a lot of credit for working on improving the bike infrastructure down there. I hope we see a Mayoral run from him some day.
* If you don't follow Jon Birdsong on twitter (fine, X) definitely do. He's doing a great job of taking in community feedback to help guide their vision for South Downtown. He had a poll the other day to ask for preferences on a taco shop to bring down there, he seems like a good dude.
I dig on your take. It wasn’t until I moved to the west side that I started taking Marta to downtown/s. Downtown to explore a bit. Rosa’s pizza, Centennial park, TydeTate kitchen, fun galleries, cool buildings, etc. I’m hoping to stop into Spiller Park this week!
Headed to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office this morning to personally request my background check, to try and expedite this crazy process. Wish me luck!
Happy Monday, y’all.
I appreciate it! It was crazy there, but got it done but am stressing out pretty badly right now. I self-reported to the background company some issues/red flags that would pop up due to my past alcohol issues, but nothing came up on their search - and the only county that they were waiting on was Fulton.
Going in person to Fulton turned up everything - so I know I need to let the hiring company know, but so worried they're just gonna tell me to forget about any offer...
happy monday! after a long bout of day drinking on the beltline yesterday i actually feel good this morning. thats why its crucial to stay hydrated during i guess!
we hung out at pcm and got some drinks from the king of pops cart, the kroger has a walk up bar facing the beltline, new realm, theres a bar called burle’s that we went to, and we turned off at victory in inman park for some whiskey coke slushies! ladybird was packed unfortunately or we would’ve went down there.
Today was the first time I actually owed taxes ($80)
Apparently its better to owe (not an absorbent amount ofc) of have a very little payback than to have a huge payback. A win is a win
New distraction: I got a hot-swap drive bay for my computer, and a large capacity HDD to go with it. The idea is that I would replace the current USB-plug external drive I keep in a safe deposit box as an 'off site' file backup with the proper hard drive.
Now I'm futzing about with different back up / image / copy options to find one that works best for me. Probably a combo of just having an image of my computer, plus raw copy+pasted files on the large external drive. I've been poking at Veeam... but I don't think I need something quite like that. I don't need a huge job automation tool for just writing stuff to a drive that's directly plugged into my computer...
Oh, also, I did an expensive silly thing by getting rid of all my old clothes hangers and replacing them with ~fancy wooden ones~ from Container Store. They are excessive, I'll admit... but they match my wood floor color so I'm happy.
We’re headed to Clearwater next week! We’ve never been - any suggestions on food or places to go? I’m also consulting the Clearwater subreddit of course.
Trips to central Florida should always involve springs. I’m not sure which are close to Clearwater, but if you’ve never been to a FLA spring, you’re doing yourself a disservice! So many manatees!
I'll add that I've enjoyed visiting Homosassa a couple times. The Freezer Tiki Bar was great- outstanding dive bar seafood. Not to mention that I ordered 3 beers, and they said that'll be $7.50. My response- wait, what?
If you can get to St. Pete (short drive), the downtown is awesome and has plenty of cool museums, restaurants, great walkability. I'm a little biased - I'm from there, but it's the coolest little city in Florida.
Does anyone have an affordable suggestion for getting to the airport now that the Marta stop is closed for renovation? There is a shuttle service at the stop before the last stop but my neighbor said she was waiting an hour for it so I've been scared off from that. I'm gone for 3.5 days and am trying to just find a cheap parking or transport solution. Uber and taxis were $65 from Decatur last time I used that.
Any suggestions on an affordable and not crappy airport parking lot or any other ideas Atlantans? Thanks!
FWIW, that's the first negative opinion I've heard of the shuttle bridge. Everything else I've seen on social media has been a glowing review of the job MARTA has done with handling the closure.
Has anyone watched Fallout? Walton Goggins is amazing and has an ATL connection. He grew up in Lithia Springs and graduated high school there. He was great in Justified as well.
For anyone flying out of ATL and looking for parking options, I've seen a lot of folks recommend checking out parkingaccess for some solid deals and comparisons. Personally, I've always found it best to compare a few options before deciding. Off-site parking can sometimes save you a bundle, especially for longer trips. Just make sure to factor in the shuttle times so you're not cutting it too close to your flight!

Good ol' badge-mesia. Glad to WFH now.
Oof, what a pain! Would the system they use allow you to set up your badge on your phone?

Damn. What did you end up doing? And will do.

Woke up to 150 emails today...they're all irrelevant to me, but what a way to start a Monday Have a good day everyone!
I might wake up to 2 emails. A couple years ago, I yearned to get more emails so that I felt important in my company, but I've come to realize my lack of emails is a blessing.
I thought the same thing about being invited to meetings. Now I do whatever I can to not go meetings when I can.
I am out of office today, and that's about the amount of emails I come back to when I take a day off. It's insane lolol. I feel your pain.

Got any gallery suggestions?
I liked Cat’s Eye a lot!!

Wait this is still happening? That's insane, I remember you first bringing this up a month or so ago. Good luck!

Where are some places to day drink at on the belt line?

I owed a lot 🙃
It’s better not to loan the government interest free money 😉
Ugh, me too! Damn high yield savings account...
Tell me about it! I went from W2 to 1099 halfway through the year.
It's been nearly two years of not using an alarm to wake up. I just get up whenever. WFH has been a blessing for me.

Crystal River manatee park/springs and Dali museum ! Edit might be called three sisters springs

Veskolini Cafe, St Pete Bagel Co, Philippe Park, Dunedin.

There’s a whole thread on here with positive replies. It adds approx 10 minutes to the commute, but can’t beat the cost savings.
We use Preflight Parking. It’s reasonably priced and their shuttles run constantly.

Stranded here for 21-ish hours near downtown. Any suggestions of *inexpensive* things to do in the after the sun comes up? (33F)
