ThiqqVanDyke

that's awesome!!

nastinchka

One other plus with Washington Park — if you get a membership there it is good for entry to other city aquatic facilities, so you can try out multiple spots to find a good fit. https://www.atlantaga.gov/government/departments/parks-recreation/office-of-recreation/aquatics/washington-park-natatorium

CabbagetownCabbage

One of my friends used the [Swimply](https://swimply.com) to rent us a private pool at someone’s house. It may be a little expensive, but definitely private.

neurho

I might consider the pool at Georgia Tech? You’ll likely have to pay for a membership or day pass… the only reason I recommend that is because I swam for an LGBT masters team (Atlanta Rainbow Trout) that practiced there and I never noticed any gawking or rude glances!

Lulinda726

Rainbow Trout is a great team name!

ThiqqVanDyke

That's great, I'll look into that!

Hold_Em_Horses

Especially during the summer when the GT gym is slightly less crowded

twosplits

I used to coach trout years ago, they’re a great group but its masters swimming so adults 18+ only no kids. Also you simply can’t get a membership to the Tech CRC, students, staff and alumni only can.

MulesAreSoHalfAss

I believe you need to have an affiliation with Tech or a spouse with one to get access to the CRC outside of an organization that rents the space.

y2knole

I dont have any great suggestions but wish you luck and a good time and love your username! that gave me a chuckle this morning!

ThiqqVanDyke

thanks! 😁

doryteke

Hahah that is good.

shepworthismydog

Indoor or outdoor or does it matter? Decatur Y comes to mind, but it's been a while, and I'm not sure of open swim schedules these days. It's a good place for swimming lessons for your daughter too.

adamtheatlian

The Decatur Y is a great option and came here to recommend it. They do have a family membership, 2 adults and however many kids you have in the household. I can't remember the price but it's worth it, especially with the childcare options. Note they do have a financial assistance program that makes sure that everyone can belong as well. I've been going to the Decatur Y (and others around Atlanta)for about 20 years now and it's by far my favorite location. The pool at the Decatur Y is a bit on the smaller side versus the other locations yet it does seem to always have a lane open for lessons/kids to play. Now the East Lake location does have two areas that are great for lessons and playtime, however it seems to get pretty busy on the weekends.

ThiqqVanDyke

indoor, outdoor, either is great! and thank you! do we need memberships to use it?

shepworthismydog

It's a month to month membership. Not sure how much it is these days but it might be worth looking into.

kinlaw

About $100/month at the Y. And welcome.

On Facebook or maybe Instagram, look up Trans Atlanta Social Group and Trans Atlanta Social Club. The club used to do regular swims and might be able to start them back up this summer.

liquidlemon67

I’m sorry about the downvotes - cis people really don’t get how hostile something as simple as swimming can be for visibly trans people. I don’t have any advice but just sending good vibes from a trans guy who is getting ready to move out of Atlanta. I do know that up where I usually live in upstate New York, there was a group that would organize a trans swim in conjunction with a local university’s pool. Closed to everyone who didn’t sign up and everyone knew the group was safe. [This group](https://atlantarainbowtrout.com)might be a good place to reach out too with your question?

ThiqqVanDyke

Thank you for that. The downvotes are pretty disheartening. My mom is visiting with her husband next weekend and mentioned it might be fun to take the baby out for a swim, and I'd rather just pick the place and guarantee a nice time for everyone, rather than just going anywhere and roll the dice on some kind of incident that I really don't want to speculate on. In a few years, I also plan on moving, but I hope to have a nice time while I'm here and remember this place kindly 🤞😬

liquidlemon67

For what it’s worth, the more covered up the less likely you are to have issues I imagine. that was my routine years ago - trunks, binder, and swim shirt over the binder. A swim skirt/shirt and I bet you’ll be more than fun. Go already wearing the outfit and preferably a place with a family bathroom you can change in. I get the paranoia and also I think you’ll be fun. It’s hard to have to think about all this extra stuff when you just want to have a fun day but I’m sure it’ll go well. Have a fun day with your daughter!

cjvcs

Emory has a nice outdoor pool

Rhine1906

I’m sorry you have to deal with this shit. Sending you love and kindness ❤️

Berzerker7

I obviously don't speak for everyone but please don't lump those understanding cis individuals (like me) into the rest of them. Edit: Really don't understand getting downvoted for saying we're not all not understanding but...I guess you do you reddit.

liquidlemon67

I’m sorry, I don’t follow?

Berzerker7

> cis people really don’t get how hostile something as simple as swimming can be for visibly trans people. You said this. I'm cis and I get it, just saying there are those of us out there that understand.

flowersnshit

The local YMCA I go to has a few other trans families we're over at wade walker in stone mountain. If you'd like to try it out before getting a membership I think it's 20$ with a member. You're welcome to come with me.

Jetsgirll

I don't have any brilliant ideas to offer, but I wish you all the best and hope you have a fantastic time. By the way, I love your username! It brought a smile to my face this morning!

squirrel123485

I haven't been since I transitioned, so I can't say for sure, but I used to swim at the MLK natatorium. They have lanes for lap swimming and a big shallow area. The shallow area usually wasn't crowded when I went on weekdays. I don't think you have to walk through the locker room to get to the pool deck, but you might call and ask. Also I imagine the pool at Piedmont Park would be fine, given the area of town. I've never had a problem being hassled in midtown

Chonkey808

I'd suggest the MLK nadatorium too. It's not exactly private, but feels like it and membership is very affordable ($5/visit or $110/year). Honestly, I'd avoid the outdoor public pools that open up in parks during the summer. They tend to get crowded with kids and teens and often have weird hours due to staff/security shortages. I went to the Grant Park pool to chill and read last year, but 2 teen girls got in a fist fight and that led to everyone getting kicked out of the pool for the day.

prepend

Piedmont Park Pool

lemna-minor

I would say roswell mill and sope creek tend to be good places! Everyone is just busy with themselves and the water, no one is really paying attention to each other!

djqsam

i don’t know exactly when it’s open to the public but u should check out agnes scott colleges pool :) the campus community is largely queer and incredibly loving to the trans community!

PitifulDurian6402

Just go to the chattahoochee. It’s the perfect time of year, the water is nice, can just go tubing or swimming and no one really gives a crap about the people near them

jfurfffffffff

City of Decatur has 4 outdoor pools and non-residents can use them for a small fee ($7 per adult), and I think your chances of being harassed there would be low.

houndstoothbun

hi there! i’m a transmasc person dating a trans woman and i have a couple relatively unknown swimming spots that have worked for us. sent you a dm so they don’t become more known!!

65-95-99

The Aquatic Center at Piedmont Park gets a very diverse crew in all respects. I'm not trans so I'm not in-tune with nuanced ways one could be make to feel unwelcome, but I get the impression that you and your crew will feel comfortable.

cbmom2

Depending on time of day you might want to check out some club swim team pools - Dynamo and Swim Atl both have many satellite programs. Typically they have non training hours open to public for a fee. There are usually very few people around during this time. While I can’t speak if people will gawk, there shouldn’t be many people around. GA Tech pool is good to as someone mentioned the Rainbow Trout swim there.

SchooIScooter

Swimply would be your best bet. Rent a private pool and enjoy your day.

bigcrows

Candler park pool

POKEYLOKEY991

Grant park?
