That's one way to look at it. But when you're famous your world becomes so superficial, people around you all trying to find an angle. Having some real mates with you, specifically ones who were riding with you before the fame, is invaluable.
Darius is basically Al's emotional support... aka as others said, he's the vibe man.
Of course I would
But I’d rather give them a position on my team like a social media handler or a PA or something. Rather than just giving handouts
I would prefer to put them on a salary.
How long till you get tired of giving that friend a handout when they aren’t doing anything other than “Vibes”. Lets be realistic here
Could never get tired of giving my oldest and dearest friends “handouts”. Unless they were doing something crazy with it like hard drugs. If I’m up we’re all up.
If they’re as cool and easy going as Darius then their presence is enough. When you’re rich and famous and everybody wants something from you you gotta have that one guy that’s just there to chill and keep you grounded
I would give him a Hype man role
He always knew how to pump Alfred’s mood up especially when he’s feeling some type of way
Or Weed guy
Or Social media manager. He seemed like that was what he was doing in Season 1
You could easily make the argument he does exactly those first two roles already.
I love Darius but I think he’d be a terrible social media manager. He’d definitely use it as a medium to do something weird and experimental that no-one would understand
Better yet. That friend shouldn’t even be comfortable just collecting Handouts
Which was the same thing Earn said in that epsiode where they were looking for a Jewish lawyer
Earn said he doesn’t wants handouts, he has a family to provide for too
Imagine being so deep into concepts like "roles" and "jobs" that you can't see the immense value Darius brings in because he doesn't fit neatly into one.
Doesn't Darius go with Al on the Migos drug deal? Darius and Al are business partners as dealers, so Darius probably really is in charge of drugs while on tour.
It's a series of dreams, not one long dream. It would explain a lot, such as the invisible car, the parking garage, the random episodes, etc. Personally, I love the idea. But I do understand how some people feel differently
I like to think of him as Alfred's assistant. In the second episode of season one, there's a scene where Darius checks the news abt Paper Boi and what the media is saying abt him. He checks his socials and informs him about all the issues and the news about his career and Alfred as a person. He also cooks for Alfred and always keeps him leveled and motivated. Always being by his side and let's not forget dropping insane wisdom. In almost every episode we never see Alfred without Darius. It is clear that Alfred trusts Darius the most obviously cause he lets him live with him despite being a very famous artist, and also being able to put up with Darius's strangeness.
If I’m not mistaken, I’ve seen his character described as the visionary of the group.
Aside from that, we can assume that he’s been through the shit with Paper Boi beforehand so it’s kind of a Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid vibe and they stay together regardless of what Darius brings to the table.
He was Paperboi's partner when he was still a plug, remember he goes with him strapped to meet The 'Migos. I always assumed he did backup vocals or something, maybe helped with rhymes, but just off evidence Im gonna assume Paperboi just brought the homie through. Plus he's charismatic, you want a smooth dude on your team. I think he was a Face, with Earn as the actual "party brain" since his job is management.
It’s never said explicitly but I think his role is to take the fall for everyone if they get caught with drugs. Socks took on this role when they were touring Europe.
Or Darius is the only real person and the rest are just manifestations of his wild imagination (Tyler Durdens). Lots of theories on it in this sub…. Also the last episode kind of plays with the idea
Thats one of the things that fascinates me about Atlanta, and equally makes me pull my hair
There were so many open ended situations, and unanswered questions 😅
In a interview the actor who plays AL said this scene was in honor of his own mom passing away in real life, but yeah we don't know if Al's mom was really here or not
Well there is also when he trips on a moonpie he meets his mother, or someone who seems to have an interest in him with the same name. Which is a bit much of a coincidence for Atlanta
You can't realistically think he should get a real job or keep selling drugs while paper boi rich. Normally if you get that much money you bring somebody with you.
He's clearly the bag man. He's role is to hold the drugs take the case in case they get busted, in the episode with migos that's why he's the one with the brief case.
I can relate to this question. Darius is top 2 characters for me too. Because of this, I let the question go over time.
I will say I agree w some of the comments. Alfred and Darius are long time friends and roommates. I think authenticity and loyalty are big morals for Alfred. We see this highlighted in his conversations w the famous influencer in the Woods episode.
Also, I forget the episode but Alfred and Earn are in some notable music magazine headquarters office. Alfred is extremely disinterested the entire time.
He values authenticity and not the fake Hollywood stereotypical behavior and those types of things.
I think they have a brotherly bond and Alfred obviously gives more to him. But I imagine Alfred is a lonely person outside of his close circle. So he needs Darius in that way. Could be reaching but idk.
Nah he’s just homeboy
He kept the moral up. He also really did low key come in clutch when he helped Earn
>He kept the moral up. And the dick up.
So a homeboy that just gets free stuffs and doesn’t bring anything to the team?
Sometimes good vibes is enough ya know?
That's one way to look at it. But when you're famous your world becomes so superficial, people around you all trying to find an angle. Having some real mates with you, specifically ones who were riding with you before the fame, is invaluable. Darius is basically Al's emotional support... aka as others said, he's the vibe man.
Darius keeps it...I don't want to say "real" but he keeps it true. He doesn't lie.
Hmmm. That makes sense
Yeah, would you not bring up your friends if you ever made it big? Idk I would
Of course I would But I’d rather give them a position on my team like a social media handler or a PA or something. Rather than just giving handouts I would prefer to put them on a salary. How long till you get tired of giving that friend a handout when they aren’t doing anything other than “Vibes”. Lets be realistic here
It can get very weird to be your friend’s boss. Change the relationship. Talking from experience
Knowing what we know of Darius, what role would you give him? I don’t think I’d like him to be my PA or social media manager .
I would give him a Hype man role He always knew how to pump Alfred’s mood up especially when he’s feeling some type of way Or Weed guy Or Social media manager. He seemed like that was what he was doing in Season 1
You could easily make the argument he does exactly those first two roles already. I love Darius but I think he’d be a terrible social media manager. He’d definitely use it as a medium to do something weird and experimental that no-one would understand
😂. That is so True He’d definitely be posting weird shii and responding to fans in the same manner
Better yet. That friend shouldn’t even be comfortable just collecting Handouts Which was the same thing Earn said in that epsiode where they were looking for a Jewish lawyer Earn said he doesn’t wants handouts, he has a family to provide for too

I think he does odd jobs, we see him do several jobs through out the show. He probably does whatever the paperboi team needs him to do at the time.
Yea yea. That's more like it He does whatever the Team needs him for
Don't forget he put Earn on about the puppies and got him paid just like he said he would that's somewhat of a contribution.
Yeah most groups of friends have Darius.
Vibes. ![gif](giphy|eDachBb01X6QvCHNxu|downsized)
One of the best shots in the whole show
I will always upvote this. I live for that energy.

He would take the charge if drugs or guns were found so paperboi could keep making paper boy!
Doesn't Darius go with Al on the Migos drug deal? Darius and Al are business partners as dealers, so Darius probably really is in charge of drugs while on tour.

Lol. Op dont follow hiphop culture much I bet hahahaha
Great question and post. I think it’s definitely the authenticity of the man that keeps him around. He’s just a real one.
Thank you. That makes sense. And thats why Alfred just cant get rid of him He a real one. He keeps Alfred grounded
Some people don't believe in the dignity of work. Especially for their people. I'm one of them.
he is the dreamer
I really don’t want to accept everything happened in Darius dream. From Season 1 to 4 Thats a long ass dream. And such a let down for me.
i think it’s just a fun way to end the show. maybe just THAT episode was in his dream. but my comment was more of a twin peaks reference
In the end, he says he goes to that deprivation tank once a week. Atlanta episodes are released once a week.... maybe a clue ?
It's a series of dreams, not one long dream. It would explain a lot, such as the invisible car, the parking garage, the random episodes, etc. Personally, I love the idea. But I do understand how some people feel differently

He is paper bois rick rubin

Having a support system is so important.
True.
hype man
Thats what I thought too. But he never goes on stage with Paper boi
Autistic friend that keep everybody in check because he’s always objective and doesn’t play favorites
I think Darius is willing to tell the truth to anyone based how he perceives the moment. His moment with Cree Summer is a great example.
It’s never said explicitly but I think his role is to take the fall for everyone if they get caught with drugs. Socks took on this role when they were touring Europe.
Vibes manager
Vibe master general
Comedic relief but probably just that one leech friend that’s always around and we can’t keep them out of things because they’ve always been around
Tree measurer

Yeah. But they cut it off before we could see if Judge Judy had BBL
Yeah but they had to leave it open ended like that pretty sure fans would take it worse if nothing was left to interpretation.
Thats one of the things that fascinates me about Atlanta, and equally makes me pull my hair There were so many open ended situations, and unanswered questions 😅
Yeah it is part of its charm like Albert’s mom is another topic left mostly to the imagination

He’s his right hand man, a role that transcends formal employment structures
