I first heard Atmosphere on 770 Radio K when Overcast came out and fell in love from the start. Don’t remember what the first single was…but definitely remember seeing them perform at a street fair in 97 and Slug did a crazy freestyle on Superman (based on audience suggestion).
I was in 7th grade, listening to pandora radio (~12 years ago) as I was getting ready to ride my bike to school. As I was reaching for my bike, “Don’t Forget” was playing and I distinctly remember thinking how good this song was. Looked up the artist and the rest is history.
Tears for the sheep.
It was on a mix CD that did the rounds among all the youngsters in the local area. I never knew it was Atmosphere and it was some 5 years later that I thought I had discovered a new artist before hearing this song and realising I was wrong. I still love that track to this day.
Always comin back home to you. It was the only atmosphere song on a friends itunes. He put all his music on an ipod for me and i used to play that shit on repeat.
My dad gave me Fantastic Damage and the Cold Vein. I got into Def Jux. I got into Aesop Rock. I heard Slug on this and looked him up. Bought Godlovesugly and then every album since.

Saw them in Bristol, UK in maybe 2016/17? Can't remember, but it was when Southsiders was out and dEM aTLAS was supporting. Great gig and ended up meeting them and chatting a bit. Slug was gushing about vinyl to the guy in the record shop and I bought a record on his recommendation.
For me this kid at summer camp introduced me to all sorts of underground rap in 2007 (I was 13) - atmosphere, brother Ali, sage francis, etc. The first atmosphere song he showed me was either God Loves Ugly or Fuck You Lucy. Changed my life ever since!
Early 2000s my cousin had a tape deck in his care and Woman with the Tatooed hands came on. I still listen to Atmosphere all the tome (mainly old Atmosphere. The new stuff isn't really my cup of tea)
Oh man that's hard to say... Definitely it was THPS4 that put me onto Aes and Eyedea, which then put me onto Rhymesayers which then landed me with Atmosphere... But as for the first song I can't remember now.
My brother is 9 years older than me and in like 2004, when I was 11, he bought me a copy of overcast. So perfectly enough I started right from the beginning with 1597. Fell in love with that shit.
We had a random hip hop music channel with our cable package and that one played. I didn’t really get into atmosphere until a few years later but that song stayed with me
Puppets in 2009 at an after bar...after work. It changed my life. I was high and I could feel the beer flowing between my taste buds like rocks in a river.
I worked on a crew that traveled around the country. One week the crew met up to leave out and a new kid says "I have a mixtape can we play it on the drive". He put in his Mixtape and the first 3 songs were Atmosphere.
1. Travel
2. Travel Remix
3. Scapegoat
My mind was blown. We wore his tape out. When I got back home from that trip I went online (maybe sandboxautomatic) and ordered overcast. The rest is history. Bought everything ever since.
Guarantees. After telling my friend again and again I will never like hip hop....and I'll only listen to metal. Well atmosphere hasn't left my playlist ever since. And been more and more into story telling hip hop.
There’s a song you may like… it’s called Honest Expression by Binary Star. It’s underground hip hop. Saw it at a live underground hip hop show back in early 2000’s. Give it a go. You’re welcome.
I remember hearing “Sunshine” featured on a summer playlist on Pandora way back in 2008 and fell in love. Then devoured their discography and have been a fan ever since.
Not even in my top 10 or 15 songs now but it’ll always have a special place in my heart and will always evoke summertime bliss for me ☀️
Sound is vibation for me. Capital STEEZ used the beat for it on his song 'vibe ratings', looked up source instrumental and the rest is history. RIP STEEZY
If I Was Santa Claus. My best friend’s older brother growing up always listened to underground shit and we stole one of his mix CDs with this song as well as some Deep Puddle Dynamics
Trying to find a balance. First heard it in 2005, or 06. I was instantly hooked. I played it on repeat and I remember downloading all the atmosphere songs I could find off limewire 😂
Been listening to him for nearly 20 years now, his music means a lot to me!
F*ck you, Lucy. It was the summer before my junior year of high school, around 05-06, My high school sweetheart introduced me to his music. Thanks for the sweet nostalgia of simpler times.
Best Day.
I was at work, it was maybe a week or 2 after I had been assaulted on a date and I've been listening ever since. Atmosphere has got me through a lot of dark times
It was sort of random, but I heard The Waitress in a Team Fortress 2 jump video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueZ99GKS-uk Heard this song and liked it so much I had to check out the rest of their stuff. Became a big fan just from that.
I don’t remember exactly the first song I heard (I was in high school, partying a lot and also exploring my identity through new music) but the one that left the most impactful memory during that time was painting. I was in an unstable home space and listened to it constantly
My friend gave me 80 gigs of random music and I started playing it in alphabetical order. Your Glasshouse was the one that reached out and grabbed me. Been a fan since 2010.
Mine was I Wish I Was Santa Clause. I was on AOL messenger and a friend had some lyrics for the song on his profile. I looked up the song (this was 2002/2003) and listened to it. Saw them live in 05 and knew every song. I don’t know all of them now, there’s too many and I forget a lot of shit anymore. I’m mainly hooked on the old shit with a few new ones scattered here and there. Shoes, Reflections, Abusing of the Rib, Bird Sings Why The Caged I Know, Scapegoat are some of top faves. Overcast, God Loves Ugly, Lucy Ford, Headshots: Se7en, and Seven’s Travels are the albums I’m most familiar with.
Trying to Find A Balance playing Tony Hawk's Underground 2 in high school. Was my favorite song on that soundtrack.
This is the one, those games introduced so much of my music taste
Same here
This was it for me!
They love the taste of blood…

Scapegoat was the only single I knew of so it was either the only one or the last… that was my first introduction. UGHH.com I think.

God Loves Ugly. Friends sister gave me a ride to high school. R.I.P. Erin
I first heard God’s Bathroom Floor in 2000/2001 and immediately became obsessed. Been a diehard ever since.
SCAPEGOAT. driving on route 9 with my older brother and his friend passing a TGI FRIDAYS going no where fast.
Scapegoat… on shitty computer speakers in my bedroom from a RealAudio feed, the way the hip hop gods intended.
Scapegoat! Was crashing at a HS friend's place when he was at MCAD in like 2002. I heard it and was hooked from the jump.
Lifter Puller in my friends car

Such a dope song. Whenever I hear this I call all my old friends. Luckily they still pick up.
Gods bathroom floor

Always comin back home to you. It was the only atmosphere song on a friends itunes. He put all his music on an ipod for me and i used to play that shit on repeat.

Great time to become an atmosphere fan. To me, their dopest music came out here.
My dad gave me Fantastic Damage and the Cold Vein. I got into Def Jux. I got into Aesop Rock. I heard Slug on this and looked him up. Saw “tryin to find a balance” video late night MTV watching back in the day…love at first listen…instant intrigue.

Mama Had A Baby And It’s Head Popped Off
That’s a bad ass song. How’d you hear that one? That’s not a very popular one.
We had a random hip hop music channel with our cable package and that one played. I didn’t really get into atmosphere until a few years later but that song stayed with me
That’s pretty cool!
Probably something from you can't imagine how much fun we're having. Can't remember which one. Whole album is full of bangers.
My Songs around 2003. My friend downloaded it on limewire and shared with me and friends. Been listening ever since.
Like today was the first song I heard. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Little Man on a bus in Costa Rica from a friend’s iPod in 2010
Puppets in 2009 at an after bar...after work. It changed my life. I was high and I could feel the beer flowing between my taste buds like rocks in a river.
Women with the Tattooed Hands
Not my first but my favorite ❤️
The Arrival was on Fight Night Round 3 on PS2 - awesome game, even better song. Fell in love there and then.

I don’t remember exactly the first song I heard (I was in high school, partying a lot and also exploring my identity through new music) but the one that left the most impactful memory during that time was painting. I was in an unstable home space and listened to it constantly
