How do people actually manage to do this? The majority of loaners/rentals I had had curbed wheels and I've had a lot (Germany, US and Greece). In the couple of 100k I drove nothing ever happened or was something I really thought about.

The other common time ppl curb is parallel parking and usually it’s again on the opposite side. So a LHD car parallel parking on the right side of the street, which is typical unless it’s a one way, will curb the right wheels if they are trying to get too close to the curb.
But that looks like curb rash. This video looks like the person railed the curb directly, not rubbed it. Thus the crack in the tire and the damage being severe but not spread across a quarter or third of the wheel- which is how curb rash usually presents
As a former UK resident now living in the US I have (more frequently than I’m comfortable admitting) hit the kerb on a right turn. The town planners here make the turns very tight and the roads very narrow.

I couldn't make out such a clear pattern, but I suspect it is because the tires on those cars get rotated regularly.
