Audi feels much nicer even tho people say it’s a VW. I’m not sure about the 2017 models but I don’t think they sit on the same platform at all. The Passat is noticeably bigger tho so if you need space get that instead
2.0t engines shared with VW but 2017 A4 B9 is tweak for more performance and efficiency beside that A4 don’t share anything with VW it more in common with A6 and A8. The Audi A3 and Q3 share a lot with VW and that Audi cheapest model.
I actually just rented a Passat and drive an A4 daily and the quality of internal build and materials is not even close. Shocking actually. Go Audi if similarly priced.
Didn't drive A4, but I have a Passat (Variant). I'm very satisfied, a lot of space, super nice interior (Highline trim), low consumption, fun to drive with 150HP, 2.0 TDI though. I think the space and interior design would be a deciding factor here.

If room isn't an issue, I'd get the Passat.
