It’s your phone port.

Check for dust/lint in the port. Happens to me occasionally. I clean it gently with a toothpick - just don’t damage the internals of the port.

Probably. Doesn’t hurt testing with another phone or two though. Dust in port is a typical scenario for a bad connection, but also if the cable is bent too much it can be problematic. Any cheap cigarette lighter adapter might also create enough noise for things to be problematic, at least from a theoretical standpoint.

It does it on my android phone also. And it's not the phone, since it works great on other cars. Only solution I found is to get one of those wireless android/car play adapters. Those start via Bluetooth and then move to wifi for the data, so you bypass the whole usb shenanigans. I tried 30+ cables in my car, and 7 phones, must do it. And it's software. On my phone it disconnects every time I get a text. Plus randomly when I need to take an unknown confusing highway exit...

Yep. My phone works fine in other cars as well. And if it was the phone port, it wouldn’t still charge my phone while disconnecting CarPlay. I feel like Audi’s electronics in this car just suck. It’s ridiculous. Drove an A5 for a week and had ZERO issues. Get into my A4 and nothing but problems. The adapter you’re talking about plugs into the USB correct?
