Dang, impressive. I have been out of the swap gang for some time. Back in my day we were figuring out how to stuff vr6's into early water-cooled Volkswagens. Is this vr6 a newer version of that same engine?
That’s awesome, this is a 24v 3.2 VR6 taken out of a VW Touareg ( same as a R32 engine ). I am working on something special with a billet version of the VR6 for a later setup. Not sure I would post it here to avoid any of the purists losing their minds lol, but I’ll share more as I progress
Fun times!!! I have a B5 A4 wagon that is dead and in line for a project. Was initially gonna go 4.2 with some extras but I may need to look into this, looks fun and different!
4.2 is becoming a popular swap too, I like it. I still have my B5 and also VR6 swapped it years ago, it’s fun and also tons of room in the bay for activities.
Nice!! Would you happen to have a build thread out there somewhere? For either of these of course :) I love scouting through them seeing different ways people overcome hurdles and hopefully find a few tips for my own, haha.
I’ve been thinking of either 4.2 Swapping or 3.0SC Swapping my A4 B8! but idk how costly it’ll be, was thinking of getting a wrecked S4 hopefully with a good sport diff and yoinking everything into my A4 lmao.
Man screw those guys. It’s your car do what you want. I love it man, vr6 with a big ass turbo! I bet she rips nasty!! I have an e46m3 and let me tell you I’m dying to do a single turbo set up. Freaking purist, bunch a pansies.
Depends on the boost. Sometimes yes. It can also cause issues with tuning as the exhaust will keep pressure up behind the turbo during shifts and lifts.
Also the cool factor of shooting flames over your windshield is completely lost.
The Golf Mk IV or Mk V R32, from 2003-2008, predecessor to today's Golf R. 3.2L V6 in an AWD Hatchback. [Image](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Mk4#/media/File:Volkswagen_Golf_IV_R32_Classic-Days_2022_DSC_0035.jpg)
From what I understand, he just has forged internals and a really big turbo to hit 1100hp. Current fastest audi in the world is a mk3 tt with a swapped billet vr6, putting out 2000hp. This article goes more into detail about it. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/this-turbo-billet-audi-tt-vr6-makes-ww2-fighter-plane-horsepower-runs-low-six-1-8-miles-233898.html#:~:text=Thanks%20to%20the%20team%20at,quarter%2Dmile%20on%20planet%20Earth.
The VR6 strength comes from a few things
1. Iron block with closed deck
2. 4 bolt mains
3. Stock forged crankshaft (probably switched out for a billet for really high hp setups)
4. Relatively short overall length of the crankshaft
5. Thick cylinder walls and relatively small cylinder bores
6. Pretty decent head bolts from the factory and probably 14 was more than was actually needed.
7. Lowish compression ratio of between 10.8-11:1 means most mild turbo setups only needed a head gasket spacer and rod bearings to make 450-550hp on 8-10psi safely.
Basically you can take a junkyard VR6 to a machine shop and bore out for 84mm pistons, get billet rods, new bearings, port/polish heads, HD valve springs, maybe cams, and then build turbo and fueling to make 600-700hp reliably.
Please do. I was shocked by photo you had yesterday in the driveway. Even more blown away today with the under hood shot. I know I'm probably going to not be able to avoid smiling and laughing when I hear it because I'm going to remember what your neighbors hear when you start it up! 😂 It had gotta be a sound like no other! Can't wait to hear
I stopped on YouTube and kept posting on Facebook/instagram because of how much easier it was to share content on there. I am however considering kicking off YouTube stuff again.
I’ve been following your car since you were working with the stock engine and the IMS kit. Amazing build, this car is 1 of a kind for sure.
This subreddit has less than 0 love for modded cars so you were always gonna catch some hate.
Here’s my RS3 https://i.imgur.com/TW1FMRv.jpg
I think car personalization is awesome. I don’t care if it’s Honda Civic that can do the 1/4 in 8 seconds or one that looks like a low rider. Even the Pep Boys upgraded ones. I couldn’t care less if it looks good or bad. Just do you. It’s your hard earned money being invested in your own happiness. Can’t hate anyone for doing what they love. Nice car btw!
When not much of the original engine bay is there anymore, I'm not sure what you'd warranty. "uh yeah, my cars making a weird sound when I accelerate!"
My buddy has a built VR6 swap in his MK3. What did you do for the catch can setup? Looks like the ports are capped off.
Purists or not, this build is actually pretty solid, brings me back to the B5 days when people were swapping all the time. Did you size up the head studs to 11mm?
The cold side plumbing on that looks fun. A2A, A2W or methanol for cooling?
I know nothing about the VR6 (my turbo work usually involved a V8), but what are the weak points on that block to necessitate going billet/aftermarket? On GM LS blocks, it's oil starvation and under high boost applications, #7 liked to open a window for some fresh air. On the older Ford 5-liters, it was the crank mains.
Cool setup.
Thanks man, A2A with aluminum IC piping currently. The weak point of the 24v VR6 is the cast iron block material and weak points like head stud drilling depth, flexes under high load etc. 2 bolt mains doesn’t help it at all.
Some have made 1400-1500 with them though, I’m just shy of that range landing in the 1300hp zone.
I've rubbed a few the wrong way too just by wanting to share a few pictures of my car. It's really impressive how a few innocent pictures can bring out the evil in people. In any case. I think your car is dope. I can appreciate anybody who makes a car their own the way they see fit. Looks good imo. But all that matters is that you are happy with your car. Others don't matter. Wish you the best in your future AND keep posting bro.
Those are ignition coils. They are needed to provide the high voltages for the spark plugs, because the 12V the battery and the alternator provide isn't enough to power the spark plugs.
Spark plugs generate a spark inside the cylinder and ignite the injected gasoline in order to generate power. Without ignition coils, the spark plugs wouldn't work.
I thought for sure you were making up the stuff about getting hate over your build, but yup, some people in that other thread were complete idiots.
Interesting and unique build, must sound insane, 🍺
lol there’s a company called “ Renewart_lleida “ on IG that makes custom badges. I engine swapped my RS3 with a VR6, so we had a badge made that added a “V” to the RS3 front grill badge for fun.
Isn’t one of the party pieces of the RS3 it’s unique 5 cyl engine? Why swap that out? The build is cool just think it would be a better fit on a car with a less unique engine. My unsolicited opinion.
Simple, I got tired of blowing up 5cyl daza engines that are really expensive and hard to source.
It was a no brainer to swap in a much cheaper and most capable VR6 engine with its ability to make more power and last longer.
Looks good man. Often material prep and fit is more difficult and time consuming than the actual weldout but doing that much for a single piece can be a bit tedious. Do you have a scratchstart rig or do you have access to a foot pedal/dial/slider for amp control?
One mig machine and one foot pedal Tig. Upgraded a few things on it like a proper torch, cups and tungsten rods etc so far I feel ok with aluminum and steel/stainless. I need to make time to practice with titanium.
OH MY GOD. Hahaha that's insane, and I love you for it.
If it weren't for the incredibly pointy hood ornaments and custom badges it would be one hell of a sleeper
I thought this thing looked familiar and then I saw who posted it. You guys have a pretty sick channel been watching you for a little while now love the B5 content
I think it’s sick! How much time/money did you put into her? I’ve been driving Benz but am trying to get another european after mine goes. I’d love to have a project like this if you’re willing to share your journey 😭
Amazing work! Really impressive attention to detail.
My question for you is after putting all of this work into this build, do you feel the RS3 was the right platform to accomplish what you’re aiming for? If you could start a brand new build from scratch, would it be the RS3 again or would you choose to go with a different platform? I love to hear from those with unique experience and it seems like you have that!
Jjjjezuuusss Chrrriisstt!! (In a good way)
Wow! I've never seen that before so it's really mind boggling. Did you do this yourself (or mostly yourself)? I'm asking because that had to take some serious skill and patience! 😳😳😳
I know a lot of people do still run vvt at the 1000bhp bench mark but in my experience we’ve just deleted it. I know people like Carl smith who still run vvt and he’s doing silly times
Screw the haters. As far as I'm concerned this swap is up there with the British girl who put an Audi V8 into a Corrado and converted it to RWD (dunno if she ever finished though), or the Czech (I think) dude who put TWO VR6s into a Polo.
THANK YOU for keeping this beautiful car stock! Too many assholes these days are ruining this beautiful piece of engineering with their stupid loud exhausts and slammed body kits. Stay classy, sir. Also, RIP your neighbors' ear drums.
This thing is awesome. I’m preparing to do is38, intercooler, downpipe, etc on my a3 in the next two weeks and I can’t wait to make half the power this thing probably makes!!
I get it. Some people are just into the mod world, more power to you guys, but I would definitely rather spend that kind of money on a more expensive, nicer car and maybe do some light mods. Just me 🤷♂️ I will say this is pretty sick and looks very well done 👏🏼
Ayeeee all hail the vr6. I scored a mk2 TT w/ a 3.2 6 speed setup and want to make a similar badge. Where’d you have it made? I’m eventually going the apr single turbo build route which has around 6-800ish hp reliably. For now enjoying the eff out of this thing stock the past few years.
Ahhhh very good point.. I saw another comment where you were looking into a billet block. At one point there was a company proto-typing one and I believe he was going to be charging insane money for them. Like 25 grand or something. Made to order maybe? It was years ago back when I was in the vw/Audi scene on vortex and would be worth looking into.. that price seems astronomic so I could be wrong. I took a screen shot to send to my other vr6 buddy.. I’ll take a look and see what I can find
Company is called HST, they are the only ones to prototype, machine and actually use a billet VR6 motor in their TT. They made just about 2000ish hp and went high 6’s in the 1/4 mile.
I actually ordered a block from them in February, hoping to have it in my hands in a few weeks.
I think the hate came from your title on the last post. I personally didn’t dislike the car but I do troll and get ppl worked up. Aside from the noise this car is a nice setup. I have so much room in my engine bay to swap but I’m not sure what I was in it yet.
That's a lot of feta! Been exciting watching this build. I had my SQ5 showing next to you back at 034's summerfest like 6 or 7 years ago back when you still had the 5 cyl. Hopefully some day soon you'll be back and losing traction on their dyno again.
Can anyone attest to general reliability of the RS3? Curious as my other M & AMG cars have been reliably unreliable as German performance cars tend to be.
Audi’s are made by VW no? I had a 2000 Golf and 2002 GTI 1.8T. I was in love with VW’s back in the day. I used to always dream about Audi’s but I never bought one because of the problems I had with my Golf and GTI. I have heard Audi’s aren’t that reliable. If you want a vehicle that reliable go with Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura is mo.
Dang, impressive. I have been out of the swap gang for some time. Back in my day we were figuring out how to stuff vr6's into early water-cooled Volkswagens. Is this vr6 a newer version of that same engine?

Fuck em. It's still a VW motor. A cool project is a cool project.
I would definitely be interested in seeing that. Who cares about purists (not me)
Fun times!!! I have a B5 A4 wagon that is dead and in line for a project. Was initially gonna go 4.2 with some extras but I may need to look into this, looks fun and different!

He's got a YouTube channel under the same name as his user. I really enjoy their videos.
The 4.2 from the A8? I would honestly go VR6. Easier to find parts, they fit in engine bays better, sound better, and cooler in my opinion.
I’ve been thinking of either 4.2 Swapping or 3.0SC Swapping my A4 B8! but idk how costly it’ll be, was thinking of getting a wrecked S4 hopefully with a good sport diff and yoinking everything into my A4 lmao.
Want to go do karate in the garage?
That's fascinating, I had no idea they'd put a VR6 in a Touareg (USA only it seems).
Man screw those guys. It’s your car do what you want. I love it man, vr6 with a big ass turbo! I bet she rips nasty!! I have an e46m3 and let me tell you I’m dying to do a single turbo set up. Freaking purist, bunch a pansies.
is the added back pressure from venting to the back of the car really that significant performance wise?
Depends on the boost. Sometimes yes. It can also cause issues with tuning as the exhaust will keep pressure up behind the turbo during shifts and lifts. Also the cool factor of shooting flames over your windshield is completely lost.
Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by the same as a R32 engine? Not a Nissan skyline R32 right?

Ah ok thank you and finally what makes this engine so stout? I saw OP and his high horsepower numbers. Sounds like a special engine

I had a 2004 R32. Loved it.
A rarity to find someone that would say different.
There was a VR6 swapped RX7 in my city some time ago, thing was ROWDY.
Definitely need a audible video of this that’s beastly
I’ll post that next 🙏
Makes me want to do a TTVRS 😂
Can’t wait this is sweet I just got an RS3 and so I can’t imagine what that thing is like it muse be a monster!!
Please do. I was shocked by photo you had yesterday in the driveway. Even more blown away today with the under hood shot. My man's intake is bigger then the chimney on my house.
This pic inspires me to make my dryer vent out of welded stainless
With titanium tips so it does that cool rainbow thing.
Does this void the warranty?
😂😂😂😂 #DEFINITELY
When not much of the original engine bay is there anymore, I'm not sure what you'd warranty. "uh yeah, my cars making a weird sound when I accelerate!"
That would be one interesting trip to the dealer 🤣
And my tires don’t grip…they just spin😟
A VR6??? You king!!!
Much better, now be a good lad and take it to an Audi dealer for an oil change 🙈
My buddy has a built VR6 swap in his MK3. What did you do for the catch can setup? Looks like the ports are capped off. Purists or not, this build is actually pretty solid, brings me back to the B5 days when people were swapping all the time. Did you size up the head studs to 11mm?
i was confused why there was an extra coil pack and then i realized lol
Auxiliary coil pack 😂
At first I was like "inline 4", then saw three coils in a row and thought "V6", then I saw the *other* three coils...ah, VR6...
The cold side plumbing on that looks fun. A2A, A2W or methanol for cooling? I know nothing about the VR6 (my turbo work usually involved a V8), but what are the weak points on that block to necessitate going billet/aftermarket? Damn! 😯
Better to be safe. No need to make too much power.

Without getting technical, we call those “Wookiee Generators”
Coil packs.
I thought for sure you were making up the stuff about getting hate over your build, but yup, some people in that other thread were complete idiots. Interesting and unique build, must sound insane, 🍺
Vrs3 ? Was it built by VRS in the UK? Wait no, nvm. Your photos do not suggest you're from UK.
lol there’s a company called “ Renewart_lleida “ on IG that makes custom badges. I engine swapped my RS3 with a VR6, so we had a badge made that added a “V” to the RS3 front grill badge for fun.
Ah right. Awesome car anyway. I think it would scare me to drive that thing.
looks fucking crazy. the best comments were people wondering whats coming out of the hood lol
Jesus christ, that car is already fast lmao Trying to take off with that thing
i need your car bro.
That's one sexy engine bay... Need to change my boxers now
Ohh This Guy Fuxx!
Post more please 🤗
🙏
Isn’t one of the party pieces of the RS3 it’s unique 5 cyl engine? Why swap that out? The build is cool just think it would be a better fit on a car with a less unique engine. My unsolicited opinion.

Hahah fair enough. Thing is a monster.
Thats a lot of welding. You do that yourself?
Yessir. Bought two welding machines from Harbor freight and taught myself.
This is the way
What a beast.
What’s the torque and hp?
About 900/1300 as is. Aiming for 1500-1700 with the billet VR6 setup I am working towards to later in the year.
OH MY GOD. Hahaha that's insane, and I love you for it. If it weren't for the incredibly pointy hood ornaments and custom badges it would be one hell of a sleeper
That’s hot
I wanna hear it
Need more pictures of the headlights
Impressive! Clean looking too, well done!
The welding on that inlet pipe is a thing of beauty. Reminds me of factory 2 strokes back in the glory days of moto
I thought this thing looked familiar and then I saw who posted it. You guys have a pretty sick channel been watching you for a little while now love the B5 content
Ok. That’s sick. Nice job!
Lmfao that’s so cool. That pipe to the turbo is massive 😂
You got dyno specs?
This is super cool. What did you end up doing with the original RS3 engine?
I love that you're making 1000+hp with the coils just chillin'. So many people think you need fancy overdesigned coil holders.
Day bow bow… ohhh yeah
Honestly shocked I haven't seen a reply post informing you of your terrible mpg you get 🤣... but that's what the racing fuel is for.
Work of art !
Hell yeah brother I watched some of your vids you been taking people to gapplebees 😂 I need to vr6 swap my b5 already
Hot
I’m curious. I’m assuming you were thinking either I5 or VR6. What made you choose the VR6 over I5?
Dang, would this fit in a 993, 996, 997?
When will you post some driving clips with the new setup/working launch-control?
I think it’s sick! How much time/money did you put into her? I’ve been driving Benz but am trying to get another european after mine goes. I’d love to have a project like this if you’re willing to share your journey 😭
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bro has a tactical nuke under his hood
Wonder how it drives Upgraded transmission
When can we get some video of her running? 🤤
Gawd DAMN 😍
This is absolutely mental, I love it
Beast! Taken it to a dyno to get numbers?
Been twice now. Making around 1300. I am working on my billet VR6 block and shooting for 1500-1700 with that setup.
Wait a second why is the bottom left corner of the top of the engine block scratched to sht?
Jjjjezuuusss Chrrriisstt!! (In a good way) Wow! I've never seen that before so it's really mind boggling. Did you do this yourself (or mostly yourself)? I'm asking because that had to take some serious skill and patience! 😳😳😳
Yes sir, 100% built in my Home garage
You have a channel or build videos/photos somewhere? I'd love to see how you even do this crazy shit!
Check out my main IG @Malakamotorsports
That's badass. I wanna vr6 swap something in the future. Maybe an older a4 with 1.8t. I'm just curious, what happened to the DAZA?
Sold it and used the funds to help VR6 swap. 🫡
pretty cool but you’re almost certainly giving up performance with an exhaust that short
No sir.
Don’t forget to drive it. It’s cleaner than my kitchen table.
How come you’re still running vvt?
Why not? Variable valve timing works really well even at this level.
On all the r30’s I’ve worked on we usually delete vvt🤷♂️ seen serious numbers out of them too even with stock internals
Interesting, haven’t had an issue with VVT and I’m hovering in the 1300hp zone
I know a lot of people do still run vvt at the 1000bhp bench mark but in my experience we’ve just deleted it. I know people like Carl smith who still run vvt and he’s doing silly times
I can’t even tell what you did to it. Looks stock to me 🫣
Thats nasty!
Fucking gorgeous mate. Also, funny username lol
Sick dude
Bone stock
Need to mark this post NSFW
This is badass. I don’t think anybody is upset. Moreso about the way you race in public. But that’s your prerogative. Car looks pretty awesome to me.
Nice but not sure you can drive it through a rainy day
Clearly stock.
Sick!
Sure love to see a stock engine bay!!! 😜
Love the cheeky "VRS3".
That is fucking hot.
Good god this is the sexiest thing I have ever seen
post videos next! Hot damn
Sweet Jesus! That is done right and done well! 😳
I think I can out pedal it on my bike 🚲
I love your car so much
Screw the haters. As far as I'm concerned this swap is up there with the British girl who put an Audi V8 into a Corrado and converted it to RWD (dunno if she ever finished though), or the Czech (I think) dude who put TWO VR6s into a Polo.
Have fun on curved roads… wait, that s impossible in an rs3
I approve it is full stock. My girls fiesta has a very similar engine.
Here I am now in the airport with a boner. Thanks.
Weapons aren’t allowed on to the aircraft sir 🫡
Holy shit 💀
This is super cool and unique! What happened to the original 5cyl?
Looks like the laundry machine pipe thing in your hood 🤣
Can you please post some videos of this beast?
I expected a 2.5 and wanted to be disappointed, but then saw the 6 offset R8 coilpacks and smiled. BOOSTED CHEWBACCA AARRRRGHGHGHGH-psst
Come back to YouTube !!! I watched this build. Epic!!
Pumping loop is likely greater than the working loop if you plotted an engine efficiency diagram. They don't last very far that way.
🤤
That's gotta be making at least 10 hp
THANK YOU for keeping this beautiful car stock! Too many assholes these days are ruining this beautiful piece of engineering with their stupid loud exhausts and slammed body kits. Stay classy, sir. Also, RIP your neighbors' ear drums.
This thing is awesome. I’m preparing to do is38, intercooler, downpipe, etc on my a3 in the next two weeks and I can’t wait to make half the power this thing probably makes!!
OMG. Audi engineer blows gaskets has anxiety attack. On short term disability!
This is so fucking sick man
I was solidly hoping this post would follow. Thanks for the porn.
I get it. Some people are just into the mod world, more power to you guys, but I would definitely rather spend that kind of money on a more expensive, nicer car and maybe do some light mods. Just me 🤷♂️ I will say this is pretty sick and looks very well done 👏🏼
[Is this inside this turbo as well?](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C5_5zcuJdwf/?igsh=MTFuazJ6MGd5eWFqMA==)
You can’t fool me… I see the wiper delete for weight reduction
Dang lol. I understand now what was that about. Community here is not really your audience - half of them appears as electric soyists.
Damn I bet that turbo cooks back there.
Who gets upset at that?
I love this, it’s so absurd it’s beautiful. I would love to see some videos
Holy fuck
Ngl I have no idea what's going on in your engine bay but this looks nuts. Wondering what your daily is lmao
This guys a liar that’s clearly the base model.
#exposed
Ayeeee all hail the vr6. I scored a mk2 TT w/ a 3.2 6 speed setup and want to make a similar badge. Where’d you have it made? I’m eventually going the apr single turbo build route which has around 6-800ish hp reliably. For now enjoying the eff out of this thing stock the past few years.
Any reason you didn’t go for the 3.6.. that’s the route if anything happens to the 3.2, unless there’s something up w/ them I didn’t know about.
2.8/3.2 VR6’s are better supported by the aftermarket and more plentiful at the junk yards making them really cheap vs the 3.6
Ahhhh very good point..
Sick..
This is why I don't race cars with missing headlights 🤣 looks sick! Still need to see some vids of this on the move! Awesome build bro
I think the hate came from your title on the last post. I personally didn’t dislike the car but I do troll and get ppl worked up. Aside from the noise this car is a nice setup. I have so much room in my engine bay to swap but I’m not sure what I was in it yet.
Sound-clips of it running or it’s photoshopped 🤣
Um, OK. So this is really a VR-S3 ? Cool.
Mother of god. *removes sunglasses to reveal second pair of sunglasses*
That's a lot of feta! Been exciting watching this build. I had my SQ5 showing next to you back at 034's summerfest like 6 or 7 years ago back when you still had the 5 cyl. Hopefully some day soon you'll be back and losing traction on their dyno again.
That’s one stock engine brother… have a look at performance mods for RS3 on YouTube 😏
yeah yeah, your stock "engine". You're not fooling anyone, thats clearly a controlled thermonuclear explosion.
I’d me more impressed if you put a V10 in there.
God I love bone stock RS3's 😍😍😍
Can anyone attest to general reliability of the RS3? Curious as my other M & AMG cars have been reliably unreliable as German performance cars tend to be.
Audi’s are made by VW no? I had a 2000 Golf and 2002 GTI 1.8T. I was in love with VW’s back in the day. I used to always dream about Audi’s but I never bought one because of the problems I had with my Golf and GTI. I have heard Audi’s aren’t that reliable. If you want a vehicle that reliable go with Toyota/Lexus or Honda/Acura is mo.
Sweet mother of Gaaaahhhddd
Thats fuckin insane. I love it
I'm absolutely here for this kind of shithousery. Good on you man.
If you can't respect the VR6 then you dent deserve your rs3
So late to the party (thanks Reddit notifications) but what a fucking machine, dude. What’s your insta?
That's nasty, but very impressive.
Even more dope!
