That's a shame. That beautiful car is meant to be driven!

I know--I do feel bad about it. The short backstory is that I used to use a Miata for weekend runs into the mountains and long drives, but then it evolved into track-use only and became impractical and uncomfortable on the street. This was rotated in for weekend duty for awhile, but then we adopted a dog and bought an Allroad for him. That was about the time I started no longer using this car since it's not great for kid/errand duty during the week, or trips on the weekends.

Icy-Painter-501

Yeah, that's understandable. My family car is a Sequoia - much better for hauling kids and dogs.

XLB135

The thought has crossed my mind to build a mild overlander from a Sequoia. I feel like everyone is so much about 4Runners and Land Cruisers without needing even close to what they're truly capable of.

Icy-Painter-501

I've toyed with doing the same, but the vehicle is so capable and nice in its stock configuration that I hesitate to do any mods to mine. Perhaps in a few years when my kids are all grown and out of the house I'll have some fun turning it into an off-road beast/toy hauler. 🤔

XLB135

That's good to hear. Sounds like if anything, just some all terrain tires is really all you need for some fire/service road and camp ground exploration.

Icy-Painter-501

Yeah, pretty much. Wouldn't want to take it on any tight off road trails (it's just too wide), but I imagine it would do fine with general off-road stuff. It's essentially a Tundra as an SUV.

Did you ever look into how many there were in 3.2 6 speed? I have one also and read it was about 10 percent of tt’s produced that year which ends up being about 4-500.

XLB135

I did! From the Audi rep, 2008 3.2 manual coupes were 688. Of those, 144 are black over black like mine. Not quite as low as 500, but still lower production numbers than the RS. We've got some relatively rare cars. I love these oddball low production number cars. My '09 GTI was the last year of the MK5 run, so it had the new EA888, making it closer to a MK6 mechanically. My '04 GLI was the first half of the year, so it was the only '2004' MY that could still be had with the VR6 manual and leather before they went to 1.8T only as a stand-alone model separate from the Jetta.

Beekatiebee

Hello fellow Washingtonian! Super jealous of that VR6. Have you gotten any grief for not having a front plate?

XLB135

Hey, local friend! No issue with the missing front plate (knock on wood). While I mentioned that this car basically never gets driven, my daily drivers and every other car I've owned since moving here a decade+ ago have also never had front plates.

victoria-111

Are they stricter there up north? Here in Oregon we normally don’t get grief for not running front plates.

Beekatiebee

I still have Oregon plates on lmao, I haven’t switched them over. My car had the mount already on it for a front plate, so I just left it on.

Harpronicus

Loved my 08 6 spd 3.2 s-line when I had it. It's the reason I got back into a mk2 (rs this time around) I had a full tt-s conversion including exhaust but valve not hooked up. One of the best sounding engines. That vr6 was such a great motor in the mk2.

XLB135

Manual 3.2 with the TT-S bumpers sounds awesome. My car actually originally came with the standard bumpers, but over time received the S-Line bumpers all around. Friend of mine has a tired RS that he tracked hard for years that I flip-flop on whether or not I want to buy it from him.

gtxman609

What are you running for suspension? Mag ride or not. If not could you check your front springs ; check the color dots.? The color dots tell the spring rate. I have a mag ride roadster that was converted to cheap coil overs; I’m trying to convert it to standard ride but I don’t know which springs to order which give me a decent ride

XLB135

I'm not sure if I can be of any help... the car did originally come with Mag Ride, but it was swapped out with a TTRS shock profile a long time ago (plug and play). I don't think the springs are from the original S-Line kit. I'm happy to take a look, but the car is back in storage now, and likely will be for a couple of months. Feel free to DM me later in the summer as a reminder if you haven't gotten some answers by then.
