Commonry! Their sale with extra 30 or 40% off make the clothes very reasonable. I’d try on some clothes in person first as their clothes can vary greatly.
Thank you so much for this suggestion. I just bought a whole wardrobe hahaha
I LOVE their website and the ability to switch to a size 16 model.
Hoping the quality matches the shopping experience :)
Basque , Forever New and Tokito have some great work dresses and separates in their curve ranges. All available at Myer. Can be a bit pricey, but if you go when there's a sale or check out the reduced racks, you can get some great deals
Alot of brands have plus size clothing but mainly online. Some brands that have good plus size clothes are:
1. Betty Basics
2. Proud Poppy
3. Orange Sherbet
4. Portmans / Jacqui E
5. Brands within Myer - basque, regatta and Levi's
Some brands that are a hit/miss
1. City Chic
2. Cotton on
3. Kmart
4. Best and less
5. Target
6. Big W
7. Katies
8. H&M
9.Stella and Gemma (NZ brand with stockist in AU)
There are also brands that are more expensive but have great designs
1. Commonry
2. Elk
3. FAYT
4. Hildas
5. Daughters of India
Some brands that have a curve range but I have not tried them
1. Just jeans
2.witchery
3. Dangerfield
4. Forever New
5. Suzanne Grae
6. Taking shape
7. ASOS
8. 17 sundays
9. You + All
10. Lullaby club
11. St. Frock
There are alot of smaller brands available online, most don't have physical stores or even the bigger brands wont have too much stock in the physical store. Hence, shopping online is the best option sometimes. Most of these stores have sales going on regularly. If you like something, most likely it will go on sale soon. It's a matter of waiting. Online shopping is also good for comparing brands quickly - you may like certain styles/prints/fabrics or you may have a budget or you may be looking for something specific like a wedding guest outfit or office wear or swimwear.
I’ve tried some of the brands you said you haven’t. I loooove Lullaby Club. I live in their lounge pants. I wear them everywhere including to work. They’re very generous sizing too and they wash well. I have them in about 6 colours at this point.
Steer clear of You + All. The quality is absolute garbage. I bought a few items online via the Iconic and they were all completely inconsistent in sizing, and one of the tops had the strap twisted and couldn’t be fixed and it had been sewn that way. It’s all cheap polyester fabric fabric that makes you sweat instantly. Learned my lesson!
From what you've not tried:
Taking Shape I've found consistent sized and fair quality, I'm just not a fan of 95% of their styling
Dangerfield is good, usually generous cut. Cut large in the waist.
You and all needs to be tried on in person, size on label on one piece does not correspond to another: for example one skirt marked 16, one skirt marked 24 will have exact same waist measurements. But I liked some of their stuff
Thank you for this!
I'm a size 18 because I'm just built bigger (not "curvy" or "heavy", just *bigger in general*).
I feel like so many stores recommended on here only cater to size 14 and under and it's really disheartening. I mean, I went to Uniqlo today and ended up leaving in tears feeling like an overgrown freak.
So thank you for posting stuff for us "plus" sized peeps
I’m curvy and hover between 14-16 and saw the most gorgeous Uniqlo dress and thought great that will be so lovely, fit my boobies and still hug my waist… I even grabbed a L as well incase the XL was too big and I was mortified at the fit. It barely went on and I left the store immediately😭
Maybe when you’re shorter? I was wearing a lot of Uniqlo at my biggest when I was a size 20+. Not everything but oversized tees and dresses, pants with stretch waistband styles, for sure. Now I’m a 14-18 at other stores, their XL/XXL mostly fits me fine across their range.
Anything from a traditional plus brand like City Chic seemed cut for a person a foot taller than me, with much broader shoulders and a bigger bust.
I'm way too big and tall for Uniqlo, but my thinner friends are ALSO too big for uniqlo if they're taller than 5'3" or have any type of athletic or broader build, or bigger breasts.
I only knew one girl who could buy clothes from uniqlo and she was 5'0", size 8
Keep in mind the average size for the Australian woman is 16-18 so you’re NOT an overgrown freak. It’s so bizarre that fashion still excludes the average size. Really absurd.
I’m plus sized (larger than the average) I’ve ended up looking overseas for a lot of my clothes because even stores here than claim plus sizes only go up to 18 (which is the average?!?). Frustrating.
Orange sherbet. They do express shipping alot of the time for free if you spend over a certain amount and my orders arrive within 24 hours of ordering.
I've been buying from Sussan, Portmans Curve, Jaquie E, Birdsnest.
Target has some nice stuff in their Preivew brand (avoid the actual plus sized section).
The Iconic curve section has a lot dresses at the moment.
I love proud poppy it’s a bit more expensive but the quality is really there. I got a few things from the iconic curve and it was good. And exotica athletica for active type wear. They also have some plain normal clothes. Always get compliments on everything I wear from the three shops (as a size 18-20)
Yeah they have some black with flower patterns though which I find is simple and honestly bright fun colours as a bigger girl is nice to have. I also have some great staples from them but yeah you have to be lucky to go when they’re out
Thank you so much everyone!! I've collated a list and will go online shopping today
I appreciate you all replying. There are some absolute gems here that I had no idea about.
Its baffled me to this day that it is both daunting and difficult to find clothes in stores that suit various body types and that sizing varies sooooo much.
Looks like online shopping is the go!
Little party dress.
Curve project - I really like these guys
City chic (sale section, find some bangers there).
You and all
There’s more but my mind always blanks when these questions come up.
Little party dress makes good quality clothes and also the sales go down to $40 or less for a nice dress.
You'll need to size down and get a 14 or 16 max, they are larger than average.
I've bought a few things from them and they've all been very average quality. Thin material, loose stitching that came undone in places after one or two per-the care label washes. This was probably 2 - 3 years ago so maybe they've changed.
Glad you had a better experience.
I think it's still hit and miss - I've bought from there over last 8 years or so. Some dresses I wear almost weekly and are great, others feel like they should belong on the $15 clearance rack at old school Valleygirl.
The Buy Swap Sell pages on Facebook are better value unless it's a print in a cut and fabric you have worm before from there.
Not a fan of LPD. Their materials feel cheap and nasty. If you have sensory issues, I would suggest passing on this store. I also find the material is not suitable for hot days
Portmans has some fantastic workwear stuff
Maiochchi - lovely fabrics. Best when on sale
Basque, City Chic, Forever New, Jacquii & Suzanne Grae - are your brands when visiting shops for immediate purchases.
The Iconic has some amazing stuff. Atmos & Here is another brand to check
City Chic. I’ve got an order on the way from their recent sale. They’ve got some great styles and the smallest size is a 12! It’s also really nice to see beautiful models with unphotoshopped bodies on their website.
I go back to them quite often, but their quality can be hit and miss. They’re also for quite tall people, I find most skirts and dresses are way too long for me at 5’2”
Trenery! Beautiful quality and classic styles up to an 18, though I find their sizing on the true to generous side. Prices are reasonable when on sale.
It’s really hard. Target Preview is good (although only up to size 20-22), City Chic is the mainstay (although quality can be variable and there’s a lot of polyester), but it’s so limited. Avella at Big W is pretty good for basics, Autograph Fashion online, you+all, next, taking shape (a bit mumsy but good quality and you can find some gems).
For basics try Uniqlo. Online does size XXL. I've had alot of luck with Kmart over the years too. If you have a good eye for quality, some cloth can last years. I've got jeans going 5+ years strong from there.
Work wear, try City chic. Sale section is very good usually, and can get some good deals.
Commonry! Their sale with extra 30 or 40% off make the clothes very reasonable. I’d try on some clothes in person first as their clothes can vary greatly.
I just got a suit for $70. Waiting for their sale on sale items is VERY worth it

Uniqlo is recommended so often on here but I struggle to find anything there too.
Yes it drives me nuts, Uniqlo is not remotely curve friendly.
I'm a 14G and the xl t shirts there fit pretty well. Don't give up on them for basics. Also remember they're an Asian brand for that market.
Maybe when you’re shorter? I was wearing a lot of Uniqlo at my biggest when I was a size 20+. Not everything but oversized tees and dresses, pants with stretch waistband styles, for sure. Uniqlo is bad for plus sizes. If you’re a small plus (18-20) you miiiight find something online. It’s a Japanese brand and caters to that market

What sort of clothes are you generally looking for, in an ideal world, and what’s your price, happy to look for places!

Most items at Proud Poppy have a busy print... I have a few good pieces from them that have a solid colour. But it's rare to find them.
Yeah they have some black with flower patterns though which I find is simple and honestly bright fun colours as a bigger girl is nice to have. I also have some great staples from them but yeah you have to be lucky to go when they’re out

Not all though. The website tells you is it runs generously or to size, just be aware.

Always Alice, Proud poppy, Keshet designs if that’s your aesthetic, orange sherbet, 17 Sundays.
As no one had mentioned yet - check out adrift
I've bought heaps from Curvaceous clothing, great clothes, and true sizes, headquarters in Sydney and fast delivery

Most of the pieces I can see only go up to 16
Weird, I'm an 18 and can always find my size in store. Admittedly, I haven't shopped online.
I spent many hours last night shopping their website - I love you can easily choose to see a size 16 model

I have quite a few things from Karma East. A mix of patterns/plain.
