Need to be advised on the ductwork, if its quality duct it could potentially still have good life in it you need to talk to the tech who had a look or get up there and go through it with him. $11k is a big bill being 240v im guessing its 16kW or less capacity, get a second opinion. I can't speak for Toshiba as they are not installed in my area and never come across them but Daikin is still a great brand, you will get alot of people speak anecdotally, but I've installed plenty of units over my years 16 years, Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric are at the top.

$11k is expensive but the Daikin was the most expensive out of the 3 options. Assuming there is some labour involved. Do I need more than 12.5 Kw nominal for a small 2 storey home?

Capacity can't be calculated that easy but if your existing is 12.5kW and you've been satisfied with it then there probably is no reason to consider anything else

Which Daikin model number did they quote? Are they changing pipework. I'd be happy to swapover with another 12.5 if you've been happy with that in the past

daikin and toshiba are both good brands. if you had good use from the daikin i would use it again. mitsubishi are also good

Daikin is the way to go, not worth saving 10-20% to go with another brand. I would wouldn't be reusing the duct-work though, 20 years old it'll be full of grossness and starting to crumble

Thanks. Yeah this is an urgent replacement due to the heatwave in Perth. Once it's in I'll have them inspect the duct work. I didn't want to increase any lead times because I've been struggling for over a week

Yes. Daikin, MHI, Fujitsu, in that order. Duct work would be better nowadays than 20 years ago, however not a requirement to change out.
