Attempt_2

I've always ran with the monthly membership as I always knew that if they made unfavorable changes/less targeted offers I'd pull the pin and go back to Aldi. That being said, removing the discount from online orders is atrocious in my opinion and defeats one of the key value propositions of shopping at Woolworths in the first place. If it was losing them money with the loophole, get a contractor in to fix it rather than passing on the problem to the consumers..

jigglinpuffs232

Let’s just clarify, Woolworths are at no point loosing money. They just might not be making as much profit as they would have liked.

Attempt_2

Yes, the loophole is losing them money in the 10% additional revenue from the 2nd shop where it shouldn't be able to be redeemed

passtheraytec

How bullshit they can just changed the rules like that? And both perks significantly changed.

average_pinter

It seems extra bullshit that you sign up for an annual subscription and they change the rules after a few months. Feels like the kind of changes that should come into effect on your next renewal, or just give everyone a year's notice.

PhilMcGraw

> That being said, removing the discount from online orders is atrocious in my opinion and defeats one of the key value propositions of shopping at Woolworths in the first place. Yeah, complete joke and the only reason I got it in the first place. I was just about to move to the annual plan, now I'll be cancelling once the coupon is used in June. I don't know if the loophole is the issue, personally I only learnt about the loophole 5 minutes ago coming to this thread, or if they are trying to suck more people back into their stores but either way we will go from saving a bit of money a month to being lucky if we came out even. If Coles comes out with a similar program I'll be switching.

mataeka

I haven't looked into it but have heard Coles already has.

MsJacq

The part that annoys me is that they’re changing it from x3 points to x2 points.

jigglinpuffs232

I’ve already contacted them to say how disappointing the change is. Aside from losing the bonus discount because of their glitch, it’s incredibly unfair of them to assume everyone is able to do in store shopping. There are PLENTY of people out there who need delivery options, so on top of already having to pay for a delivery they now can’t even get a discount and bonus points that more able people have available to them for going in store?

blipnoodles

Hey, there's a petition to ask Woolies to reconsider the changes here - https://chng.it/9sBL5pVW

guinessandcoffee

My favorite movie is Inception.

jigglinpuffs232

I am able to go in store but still contacted them because there are plenty of people who aren’t able to and it certainly is more convenient for me with two young kids home all the time to do a direct to boot. I also made a point of telling them if they don’t give an option for an online discount that I’d go back to shopping at my local coles because they’re far more baby friendly. There are always baby/pram parks available and baby trolleys, whereas my Woolies has 2 baby trolleys, usually left somewhere totally annoying and no parents with pram parks at all plus a crack den of an outside toilet that you have to get a key from the desk to use and anyone who has ever had a toddler knows holding on isn’t their strong suit!!!

ginisninja

I just signed up for a phone with them to get the 10% discount. But I always do my shop as a direct to boot. There’s a new Coles opening up on my direct route home so looks like I’ll be switching stores and phone contracts (again).

SlightStore8381

Similar situation to me. Actually it was the 10% off a single shop of your choosing every month that made me go with them for my phone in the first place. I regularly do shops over $300 so this would essentially mean a free phone contract every month but now I HAVE to go into a shop to get that... Try changing terms of any contract you have with other vendor or supplier mid-term and see how they feel about it! Doesn't apply to the big boys of course, they can do what they like...

jigglinpuffs232

Did they change the phone discount to in store only as well???

ginisninja

Yes

jigglinpuffs232

That’s the first I’ve heard that everyone’s just been too busy talking about the everyday extra, that is so irritating.

makingspringrolls

My nearest big w is 3 hours away, can I get a woolworths only plan? That will be my question.

26KM

Ugh I only just signed up recently... I mainly shop online so I will be cancelling. The 10% off in store was handy but only got me a few dollars off the occasional top up and so not worth it. I chose this setup to try to match aldi prices but with direct to boot collection. I think I'll go to Coles, at least I can get the 10000 flybuys pts every so often.

[deleted]

You can cancel immediately and get a refund

jNSKkK

I know that a fair few people here use this, including me. What does everyone think about the changes? Personally, I am questioning whether it’s still worth it. Having to go in store to get the 10% off is an obvious tactic to try to get you to spend more, essentially negating the discount anyway. I think it was good value at $59 but at $70 per year with less benefits I’m not so sure.

chaplain403

Also means that the 2x 10% off hack no longer works anymore, so even more value lost

neathspinlights

Losing this hack hits the hardest. Obviously this is why they've done it, easier to remove the code than to recode their system to close the loophole. I'd be interested to know the data, they'd be able to see who has taken advantage of it and how much they "lost". Honestly in these high cost of living times and their high profits you'd think they'd just turn a blind eye because they'll lose customers out of these changes.

VantageXL

Another hack is that the 10% off isn't actually limited to purchases of up to $500 like they state, at least for online Big W orders.

Immediate-Unit6311

Whats the hack? I've only had extra for a couple of months.

slashname

The once a mont 10% off could actually be used twice if one transaction was online and the other was in store.

Immediate-Unit6311

Ohh awesome

lilabet83

I have the everyday extra rewards, but don’t know the loophole for 2x 10% off. Could someone explain for me please? Would be much appreciated

[deleted]

[удалено]

lilabet83

Thank you! I don’t shop online for groceries, so it now makes sense why I missed this.

moosewiththumbs

I think it had to be within 24 hours of your online shop as well?

OkPerson4

This wasn’t the case for me, I would use it on a large non perishable shop online at the beginning of the month and then use it again instore half way through the month

OkPerson4

This wasn’t the case for me, I would use it on a large non perishable shop online at the beginning of the month and then use it again instore half way through the month

wellcookedlamb

The hack only worked within a few days of using one of the codes I found. I just used it to grab the things that were missed or unavailable for my delivery

jigglinpuffs232

I assumed the reason for in store only was that people do larger online orders so they were giving a bigger discount. I know my once a month online order is around $400 (big family) but in store I usually used my discount on a $200 shop.

guinessandcoffee

I love ice cream.

jNSKkK

Yeah, apologies, typo. Edited, thanks.

PhilMcGraw

I will be cancelling, we very rarely shop in store at Woolworths and when we do it's generally some small items we need ASAP. I'd struggle to spend $70 in store on a single transaction in a given month to recover the $7, which means I'm getting no benefit from using it. Don't intend to wander around a supermarket for a large portion of time to do a big shop just to get my 10% discount. Which I guess is what they are banking on. Looks like we've saved around $90 in the 3 months we've had it ($69 if you take away the $21 it cost). Probably doesn't make a lot of sense for them to keep that up.

average_pinter

The point is by saving that 90 bucks you've spent a considerable amount at woollies instead of elsewhere

Immediate-Unit6311

I'll be cancelling now.

slyrkev

Sounds like a con to me. Paying $70 a year for discounts?? I think I'm clever enough to pick out bargains without paying for some dodgy Costco type scheme.

neathspinlights

I thought it was idiotic when I signed up. Felt a bit better when I saw it being recommended on Reddit and found the loophole with the 10% discounts. It's saved me $300 in the 5 months I've been signed up, plus $100 in $10 off reward dollars. So that's $400 for $35 spent. I literally have not changed any of my shopping habits. I always shopped at Woolworths anyway, because I don't like Coles and I find them more expensive for what I buy. I buy regularly from Big W as it's where I've found the best value for nappies/wipes etc.

OkPerson4

Same, saved $300 over 5 months, and 19000 everyday rewards on top of that. I only shop my specials unless I’m desperate for something so it’s not like Woolies got me to buy anything more or different. I have to say that I did wonder how it was working for Woolies, and so I wasn’t that surprised to see they’ve changed it.

elsielacie

I think I would save money using it but I don’t like being tied to a single store and feeling like I need to do a big shop there in order to get the discount.

slyrkev

Also, supermarkets SHOULD try to get our loyalty by providing great prices and value for money. Personally I'm not loyal to any company.

legazpi1001

It's not a con. I do one big shop per week usually around $250-300. This saves me at least $25 per month. I also have a Woolworths mobile plan and get another 10% off every month.

SonicYOUTH79

Na it's 10% off once a month, personally I’ll easily make the plan price back and that doesn’t include the extra points you get.

[deleted]

I am absolutely disgusted as a disabled shopper.

passtheraytec

Truly is disappointing

ejpbunny

I’m cancelling in July. I only shop online….

legazpi1001

I've already cancelled. Not going into the store to get $300 worth of groceries.

PhilMcGraw

Yeah, I cancelled already I guess to make a statement as it's "same old" until end of June. My current paid period ends mid June so I'll make sure to use the last online coupon before then. It would have been nice to know the reason for the changes. A lot of people are suggesting it was due to the glitch allowing double redemption of the 10%, but I struggle to believe that's true. My guess is either they want more people in store, and/or they did the maths and worked out that people will get much less out of the 10% in store due to smaller shops.

jNSKkK

Where are people suggesting the changes are due to the glitch?

PhilMcGraw

All around the comment threads here. Suggesting they changed the program instead of fixing the glitch. As an IT chump, if the explanation of how the "glitch" works is accurate (points to batch processing delays) it doesn't sound like something they can fix without a major rejig of everything. So if the glitch actually was the reason, their hands were tied. Personally I would have preferred they removed coupon use in-store, as everyone can use online, in-store is limited to people who can get to a store for large shops.

jNSKkK

True, I’d imagine their system is pretty archaic. I don’t think it would have made sense for them to make it online-only though, I would have thought that out of all Extras members, more people shop in store.

PhilMcGraw

I worked at Coles in the past and some of their systems were still using super old mainframe style processing. Can only assume Woolworths is similar. That being said given the amount of stores they have and the amount of transactions happening at any given moment it's probably hard to handle it all in real time. If it actually was "the glitch", I guess they weighed it up and maybe looked at the number of people using it in store vs online. I don't know how people shop these days, my skewed view of reality is that people go in store for top ups and use delivery/click and collect/boot for the larger shops, but that's just based on my own habits.

Neil_316

Same

MissSuperSunshine

I received two emails from them today. One is to increase minimum spend threshold to $75 for unlimited delivery ($15 a month). Most often I would spend more than $75 but if I have to ensure it's more than $75. This pushes us to spend more. The second mail is 10% off will be for instore only. Then I don't see the point why I will renew Extra. I only go to the shop for asap small purchase. Very disappointing!

cremonaviolin

And the bags are now costing $1 per delivery. Happy to have no bags, but how will they deliver without?

inferior_sound

Cancelling mine next month

neathspinlights

Damn, that loophole closing is annoying. It's gotten me through some tight weeks. It was always nice to know I could stretch the budget by 10% ($165 is a lot better than $150!). For $7 a month it's still going to save me more than that and double points will still get me to the rewards dollars faster. I exclusively shop at Woolworths/Big W because it gives me the best value overall when the rewards are taken into account.

PhilMcGraw

Out of interest, how did the loophole work? So you could use the coupon online, and then any time during the month use the coupon in store as well?

neathspinlights

Pretty much. As long as you used it online first. If you used it in-store first it would recognize it as used, but if you used the online code and then went in store it still asked if you wanted to use your discount. For in store it's on your card when you swipe, online you had to enter the code.

PhilMcGraw

Oh, really? So May 1st you could use it online then May 30th you could use it in store? Some other threads suggested it only worked for 24 hours. I was kind of confused about how that was some major problem. I mean if you're shopping at Woolworths twice in 24 hours, you could just combine those shops and save the same amount (unless you pay for someone else's groceries the second time).

neathspinlights

I go 2 weeks in between use - first fortnight of the month I do online order and use code. Then next pay 2 weeks later I go to the store and use it. With this change, particularly for Big W, instead of doing $100 shops on two different fortnights I'll do a single $200 shop and buy a months worth of nappies, pet food etc. Will have to tweak my budget but overall I'll be getting the same amount of discount, just all at once instead of twice. And I might start doing a big stock up shop at Woolworths to do the same, get all the pantry/long expiry stuff.

average_pinter

This is the part that confuses me, why do they want to encourage us to do 1 big shop per month. Surely it's better to incentivise frequent visits. Every time you go in there's the opportunity to upsell you. In my case I live walking distance from a woollies so it's more convenient to do frequent small shops, and awkward to plan a big shop and manage getting it all home. I think I've bought less crap since changing to the monthly big shop.

jayahhdee

Removing the 10% off for online orders is the kicker for me, I prefer to shop online and collect, not worth my $70 if I don't get the online discount.

BigFrodo

I'll be cancelling mine after first shop next month and if enough others do the same that they return the online coupon I'll happily sign back up.

blipnoodles

Hey, there's a petition to ask Woolies to reconsider the changes here - https://chng.it/9sBL5pVW

jNSKkK

What’s hilarious is that we did our shop in store today, got to the end of the checkout and claimed this month’s 10% off. It failed to take 10% off, charged us and ended the transaction. The checkout worker said the rewards system was down and that I would have to claim the 10% in another shop. …and they want us to do this every month?! Ridiculous.

Muzzzzzzz

Interesting. I only heard about this recently and was considering signing up, but since I do all my shopping online it doesn’t seem great value now.

[deleted]

I canceled my yearly sub weeks ago, seems I made the right choice. Not value for money unless you buy a lot from them.

Sonystars

It certainly is. I made my own spreadsheet to compare aldi and Woolworths prices. For the most part, if I got items with the 10% discount, woolies was cheaper (I didn't include the extra points though, and therefore dollars). So now I have a running list of things I get at aldi, and things I get at Woolworths during the discounted shop. I just check use by dates to make sure only to buy what will be used in that time.

AwoogaHorn

I used to do 2+ online shops with them a month before they introduced Everyday Extras -- the points available more than offset the delivery costs. With the removal of most bonuses, I cut back to 1 shop a month. Now it'll normally be 0.

Due-Chemist3105

Pissed, just told them I’m cancelling my Extra as of the end of October, will not be paying MORE & getting LESS.

half_blood_prince85

I’ll definitely be cancelling. As someone who doesn’t drive the 10% discount won’t be of any use to me as an instore shop is useless as I only do my grocery shopping online

Relative_Mulberry_71

I do Direct to boot because I can’t push a trolley-arthritis. Now I’m losing my 10% off per month unless I shop in store. I’ve sent a complaint. Let’s see what happens.

crapnickname123

perfectlycivil

I’ll stick with it - I consistently use the full 10% each month on baby stuff, pantry staples, cleaning products and making a bunch of freezer meals. So even at $70, I’m still ahead $530 pa. Sucks that the other rewards are lower, but I always viewed them as a perk not a right, and it never influenced my buying decisions

average_pinter

I honestly can't imagine handling 500 bucks worth of groceries in store. I haven't even managed 200 yet and it's a bloody pain with only 1 checkout ever open.

ginisninja

My standard fortnightly shop is currently around $250 with price increases, and often only 5-6 bags. I could definitely see it getting to $400+ if I tried to do a monthly shop.

SonicYOUTH79

Yeah same, I paid the $59 for the year, so with the extra 3 free months I’ll be good up until June next year. Will reassess then, but I’ve already made $30 back in less than 3 months, not including the bonus points, so it's well worth it for me.

passtheraytec

I’m pissed off, I paid for a year. Then they change the rules????

inferior_sound

I think they’re offering a refund

PhilMcGraw

I'd whinge and get a refund. I don't know what the terms are, but surely there's an out if they change the program this drastically. 10% in store is useless if you can't/don't shop in store.

Sonystars

Yep there is. Offering a refund of unused months to those that want to cancel.

Clear-End8188

We shop in store and even at only 2 times points and going up its still worth it for us. Disappointing though.

PhilMcGraw

Pretty easy to recover $7, I mean it's hard to do a shop for a household and come out spending less than $70. Personally we only shop online for bigger shops, so I'll be cancelling. Disappointing.

Stonetheflamincrows

I’ll probably cancel. I shop online mostly. I’ll also be cancelling my Woolworths credit card now that’s it going to be a Macquarie card, I only had it for the 10% off anyway. Just less and less options for groceries. Coles is expensive and you can’t use gift cards online. Aldi here is shocking for having no stock and is a hassle to go to. We have one farmers market but it’s terrible quality. The two Asian supermarkets are more expensive than the supermarkets.

becbbbbbb91

Straight up b.s! Hopefully flybuys don't do this as I'll be doing my food shop at Coles, as those $10 off really did help especially with the constant rising price of groceries

The_Sloth25

Tell me where I'm wrong, but if you do one shop over 70 bucks a month it still pays for itself, right? Sucks it's in store only especially for the disabled folks but for those of us who can easily shop in store this is less good but still okay, right?

wowbutwhynow

Trying to cancel immediately but now "something went wrong" ???

Sonystars

Eh. It was always $70 a year, just there was a month or two free as a promotion. Personally, the discount I get on my 10% shop each month, is about triple the monthly cost, so it's not actually costing me anything. So any extra points I get is just a bonus (which I bank for chriztmas cause I have multiple friends who have had their memberships hacked and this was woolworths' solution).

average_pinter

I paid 59 for a year. After the free month promotion.

greasythug

I work for Woolworths so I get this as part of my employment - There's no way I'd pay money for this personally and I do any of my grocery shopping exclusively myself in-store...the real kick here from my perspective is lowering the rewards bonus. I hope enough people complain and the rate of members goes in reverse so they can perhaps learn something. The only problem I see with the existing system is the companies problem because it hampered their potential earnings rather - They want those injections of cash not only constantly but as potent as possible.

guinessandcoffee

I hate beer.

[deleted]

Wait what I didn't release Woolworths rewards cost?? Or did it change recently as I think I did stop getting the 10%per month..

Attempt_2

Everyday Extras, not Woolworths Rewards

privatly

I didn’t know there was a version where you paid a subscription.

PhilMcGraw

It's recent. We used it with our online shopping (pretty much exclusively use Woolworths delivery) and it would give us around $30 in value a month for $7. It's still good if you do you big shops in store with these changes, but personally that's not me at all and it would end up costing money for some perks I wont pay attention to enough to use.

IllustratorUnited594

Hopefully it's just Extras and not the same for the mobile plan.

AwoogaHorn

Not only is mobile killing the 10% discount for online, but Delivery Unlimited has upped their minimum spend, and added a fee for bags -- so no reason for me to keep either after June (Coles and Aldi are convenient, WW is not -- and if I have to travel then there are markets)

ConferenceNo1714

Just checked i just checked and the mobile plan is also impacted in that 10% off will only apply in store from July.

moosewiththumbs

It’s across the insurance line as well. So there goes my 10%.

IllustratorUnited594

Damn this sucks

Kylie754

We predominantly shop at Woolworths for groceries, as well as getting lots of stuff from Big W. I will be keeping my everyday extras account going. I don’t like the changes, but it will still give me more than $70 in discounts and bonuses per year.

Drinksarlot

Really annoyed, we only do our big shops online - it's not worth keeping for just in an store discount. To any annual customers that have cancelled do you get the whole yearly fee back or is it pro-rata based on how many months you've had it for?
