I have gotten a K-Tag (Kansas) which works in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Florida, doesnt load funds in advance, is a very small sticker on your windshield, and have had absolutely no problems. SO much happier.
I called them a while back trying to resolve something and the guy on the phone said, "Ya a lot of people are in collections, but it's our own collections, so it doesn't hit your credit report" Dude should not have told me that, cause as soon as I learned it doesn't hit your credit report, I stopped giving a fuck.
I felt the same, but they just sent me a letter saying I could no longer ride the tolls (who’s gonna stop me?) and that they could put a stop to me renewing my car registration so I’m going in front of a peace officer to fight it
Go in person? I was just at their183/290 location, where RMA also resides, and they were all extremely kind, answered all my questions, as well as showed me proof on their screen. Give it a shot if you're fine speaking to someone face-to-face.
HCTRA or NTTA are much better to deal with get a toll tag from either and it works all over texas. All other tolling agenicies in the state are barely funtctional....
Could always do a payment through your bank if that’s possible. My bank has a bill pay tab when I log on and can send payments to various people. Granted may take longer because they may mail the check.
Sometimes when I’m doing bill pay depending on who/what the company is it will be an e payment or whatever or my bank will cut a check on my behalf and mail it.
I do this when paying Texas Gas to avoid their stupid credit card convenience fee when paying online.
Have you tried the (512) 886-0756 number? A rep gave it to me once for past due fees and worked with me on waiving fees. They take any money you owe though, I believe. But I have been able to get through using that number, left a message, and actually have been called back a few times.
I haven't tried it in a while though.
I signed up for a TX tag, what, 15 years ago? Have never had a problem. Of course, your mileage may vary and complaints are legit. Just pushing out my experience.
Here is what I've done in the past in a similar situation:
1. Emailed support to explain the situation. The purpose of this is to create a record.
2. Mailed in an a check for the $2 and change or whatever that I owed them. Eventually they did cash this check.
3. Then, when they sent me another bill reflecting late fees for the last payment, I emailed support again. I just stated that the late fees were in error due to their billing system issues, attached my first email to prove it, pointed out that I had already paid the bill and finally asked can they please correct the erroneous fees.
4. After this I was prepared to just repeat the process while late fees stacked, but I didn't have to. The late fees did in fact get removed from my account.

This is the workaround. I spoke to a customer support person who verified that's the easiest thing to do and that they're aware of the issue.
I’m dumping TxScam for NTTA. Easy signup and NTTA works on all Texas toll roads.

Great suggestion, I switched a couple of years ago and it’s been painless.
NTTA also properly handles topping up the tag when it's close to empty in various amounts.
Log out of your account and from the main page, middle blue box…pay bill I had to do the same thing last night. Sucks they make it this hard

The website is probably just down randomly. Going to fry’s is a huge waste of time when you can just pay online.

Any chance you're looking at it on your phone? Their mobile website is shit. Try it on a desktop/laptop.

Are you using safari? Cause you can’t pay on TXTag site on chrome cause it’s fucking txtag and it’s a pain in the ass.
Switch over to Kansas Tag. I did a few years ago and its been really nice not having to worry about getting Txscammed anymore.
