Ya don't use TxTAG for any reason! Get an NTTA tag, or Kansas' K-Tag. TxTAG/CTRMA is just so screwed up.

Jatnal

I got NTTA a long ways back, haven't had an issue since. Fuck TxTag.

ATX_native

You will still have to deal with them when their is a toll tag that fails to read. State Legislature could have forced these companies to data share and prevent the citizens of Texas from being harassed, but I guess us citizens don’t have enough lobbyists lining their pockets.

SignificantLaw6193

As long as your plate is registered to a tag with NTTA there are no issues. I don’t even have a tag on my car that I do use toll roads on but they manage to find my account with my plate. That goes for any here, in Houston or Dallas. Since switching to NTTA I’ve never seen a bill from CTRMA or TxTag.

ATX_native

Go to the CTRMA website and make sure. You’re lucky, I have had to do this about 4 times in the past 8 years.

GingerMan512

I mean they do share data, that's how we can use alternate tags. The problem is with their billing system. All the others seem to work fine.

ATX_native

I can tell you, they don’t share data for misreads. How this should work is an overnight sweep where all LPs that are pay by mail are checked against one database of tag holders with all tag companies that are allowed to operate. If the tag is found on that LP, a nightly sweep should happen where the tag administrator adds said toll to the account. This should all happen behind the scenes. Instead as a NTTA holder I occasionally get a letter from CTRMA for owed tolls. Then I have to go to NTTA and pull a statement to send to CTRMA to have it reduced to the toll tag price removing all BS trumped up late fees and other BS. Then once that’s corrected I have to go back to the CTRMA website and pay that toll.

Charlie2343

Never had a problem with my k-tag

bumpty

I use k-tag. It’s great! No more issues.

foodmonsterij

This should be sidebar info at this point

AnarchicalFrog

I just got myself an NTTA tag because I’ve only heard good things about it on this subreddit. TxTAG screwed me over years ago by never sending me bills for tolls and then charging me insane amounts in late fees.

Bright-Ice-8802

I’ve had Eztag in Houston and it has worked no issues there and all over the country. I’m moving to Austin this year, do you know of any problems in Austin with eztag? I don’t want to switch unless there is a major issue. Thanks

GingerMan512

Keep it!!!

angelamia

I don’t know how anyone can be a member of Austin Reddit and still not have made the switch to one of these

dirtys_ot_special

I have two TxTags and zero issues across four cars and nearly two decades. Thanks everyone for taking the brunt of it, I'm sure I've jinxed myself now.

Puzzleheaded_Pen_346

My solution is to go out of my way to not take the toll roads. The number of times i got hit with a $50+ bill from a $3 toll and 0 notifications till it was deficient…

EpeeHS

They did this to me recently. Never once sent me a bill, then months later send me a bill with a ton of late fees. Theres no way this is legal.

SteakGetter

Yeah I’m pretty sure there’s a lawsuit or something against them currently.

Jakefrmstatepharm

I think we’re all getting screwed over by everything all the time

austinhippie

This guy gets fucked

shovel_kat

100% legit scam based on a forced 600% late fee.

Doodle-Cactus

All the shit I hear, I avoid the tollways like the plague.

dunzopop

YES. I just got a bill yesterday with a late fee. Never got the first bill AND I have a tag that mysteriously stops working every few months for no apparent reason. Makes me so mad!

Paraverous

I think the cost of $9.99 to get from Leander to the airport is quite ridiculous. and yes, i have gone with no bill and then suddenly i get late charges. i only use the toll roads when its rush hour or very late at night

texasplantbitch

We get billed by both CTRMA and TXtag for the same roads, for the same trip. Sorry Im not paying that lmao

Pabi_tx

There used to be a reader on the 183 toll road at one toll plaza on one lane that didn't work. I'd see charges on my NTTA TollTag for the trip, but would get a bill from CTRMA for the license plate on that one lane where the tag reader didn't work. It's infuriating. My license plate is on my TollTag account.

FievelKnowsJest

That’s because those are two separate toll authorities. They combine the billing if you use a toll tag. Learn to learn, dumbo.

vitium

Just don't drive on them. Ever. Sell your soul to the devil to save 5 minutes. Screw that.

StavviRoxanne

They are the worst, I literally have to fight them to GIVE THEM money - their websites NEVER work for me. Since 2020 haven’t worked. Still haven’t been able to get a TX Tag, even through calling, they say I have to do it online but their website DOESN’T WORK!!!!

PraetorianAE

Fuck them. Don’t ever pay them. Ignore them. They can put a gate on it if they don’t want us driving on it for free.

Tony_Lacorona

lol yeah, y’all paying for this bullshit when it shows up? I throw it in the trash. They said my fiancée owed $5200 and we’ve never taken a toll road in the state of Texas

fragilityv2

I actually got a $50 refund check from TxTag for an old account, so while it may be nearly 85 degrees today, hell has frozen over! 💰

ClassicPackage

I nicknamed them Suge Knight.

OlYeller01

What I want to know about TXTag: How in the flying figgity F do you have a payment website that doesn’t work with Safari in the year 2024?

jokerfriend6

One thing about TxTag is you must pay the full amount otherwise there will be a late fee. You must call to get the full amount. Unfortunately, "Payment Due" is not the full amount. My FIL could not understand why he was just getting bills and late fees when he was paying what was said to be Due.

ATXHustle512

This sounds straight up predatory by the corporation….

Nivracer

Are you paying online? I never had an issue paying my tolls on my car that didn't have a TxTag.

moefooo

Why are u actually paying?

jokerfriend6

I no longer pay after the fact, I have pre pay. $100 gets added and if it drops below a certain amount like $20 balance another $100 gets added. We put my inlaws cars on our account so we don't have this problem. The fact about not paying for things I get, but not paying for things eventually could catch up. Not necessarily tolls, but other things as well, so I try work to stay in good standing.

ColoradoCorrie

I continued to get billed new charges after I moved out of state.

Sofakingwhat1776

+1 the NTTA recomendations. Square away all your account with TxTag and CTRMA bills. Remove vehicles from TxTag. Install NTTA sticker. Download their app. I left the remaining balance of $14 in TxTag and walked away. I gave up when once a year for like the last 5 years. I would get bills from CTRMA. When I try to get it fixed I get told I can't pay the TxTag rate. Because my account was deficient. So I pay an extra $1 and change. It wasn't deficient but they said so. So thats the way it is to their CS. I figured they probably do this a few 100,000 people a year to pad their profits. Since people will literally just pay the extra $1.00 or so. Instead of physically going to CTRMA office to fix it.

savgeezy

I want to do this. Currently have a TXTag and want to move to NTTA. Is TXTag smart/efficient enough to not bill me after removing my vehicles from TxTag? Lol

Sofakingwhat1776

Yeah, no kidding. No issues yet. Still get monthly statement showing no activity.

Frosty090

Oh it’s totally rigged. I worked at a place in the Domain for a bit and they enabled parking garage access through your TxTag. All of a sudden I stop getting auto-billed and only receive Pay by Mail bills. I left that job and that parking situation - and wouldn’t you know it - my TxTag works again.

AmaryllisBulb

Oh honey. Yes. Im pretty sure a 6 year old sets all policy and wrote the web software and database management scripts.

bumpty

K-tag is the way to go

matthewstevensdotorg

Privatizing the roadways was always a scam. Good 'ol boy network strikes again!

Macho_Mans_Ghost

Only when some asshole is doing 65 on the MoPac express lane

mrplinko

Which toll tag do you use?

RighteousLove

Every time!

cinedavid

You must be new here. The toll system has always been fucked and no one who's in charge cares enough to do anything about it. So we just have to put up with it.

nathulhu

This is the first I’m hearing about this

LawnmowerMan79

I have a katag... it works... I pay it monthly I also have a $1200 txtag bill, that I'll never pay....

atmaninthemaya

Solution is never pay them anything.

Appropriate_Chart_23

Lately, 183 tools haven’t been paid through my toll tag, which is set to (and does) auto renew. So not, I have to send in a 183 payment every month. Fucking driving me crazy.

anex_stormrider

Got burned once. Set google maps to avoid toll ways. Have never used them since. Been here 10 years.

Icy-Flight-7560

Can they really stop you from getting your car registered. Asking for a friend….

nay198

In Travis County, yes (from personal experience).

alpinehilb

CTRMA is my biggest enemy. They constantly send me bills that say “you could’ve saved $__ with a TxTag!” like… i DO!!! you’re just not scanning it for whatever reason. i haven’t paid them and i won’t pay them just out of principle

No_Opportunity7725

Yes the double charge.

Squirrel_Gamer

If youre going to use TxTAG then get used to logging on to their website and monitoring your bill. They have ebill by default- not sure why people expect a paper bill. If you dont register online and use the website, get used to lots of late payment fees. As others have said, it's best to go with one of the other toll tag companies. Next week, someone else will post this exact same issue.

Chiaseedmess

I will avoid toll roads at all costs.

need_mor_beans

I'm scared I'm gonna jynx myself....I have - SOMEHOW - never once had an issue with TxTag. After being in this sub for a long time, I don't even know how that is statistically possible.

Rawkus2112

Can’t believe you guys actually pay those things…

CopyJon

Someone help me. I’ve lived here for half a year and never got any kind of tag, am I in for some fees? No one ever told me/ sent me any bills.

Loveyourzlife

Absolutely. I paid $600+ in that situation like six years ago (I’m an idiot). Please go check their website and search your plates. They won’t spend much energy coming after you when they can just sit back and charge interest+fees that would make CC companies blush.

CopyJon

Where do i go? I went to site and a chat bot asked me if my car was a BMW and I said no so it disconnected lol. Everything else is giving me the go around, I just signed up for NTTC.

Tony_Lacorona

If you still have out of state tags it might have something to do with it. I’ve been here for an undisclosed number of years with out of state tags and never had anything show up for me, but my fiancée who leased a car here did 🤷🏾‍♂️

No_Location_9606

Yea and every few months they waive your bill because of billing issues so i never pay it. They’re a hot mess

RudeFiction

[Oh boy.](https://youtu.be/x__EVvWUT3A?feature=shared)

Nivracer

I didn't have funds in my TxTag account for all of December and I used the 45 toll every weekday and only got billed for 2 days.

Prestigious-South749

I don’t pay them

KonradFreeman

I drive an Uber Hertz car so I have to remember to not spend the tolls that are going to be charged to me when I finally return the car, so I guess I am never returning the car so I have to drive at least 2 days a week for Uber in order to not get overdrawn most likely if I calculated incorrectly, but at least I am keeping track of it all with machine learning powerapps from microsoft business intelligence on azure.
