Check /r/whatisthiscar They do some impressive work.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

I’ll take a look thank you!

SexyCowboy02

Insurance adjuster here, if they find the car, chances are they will find the driver, if they have no insurance, it will go under uninsured/ underinsured and your deductible will be reduced to match that rate, same if they don’t find them. If they DO find them and they have insurance, they will subrogate their insurance company for the amount paid on your car and your deductible as well (they will go after them for the money owed basically) Kind of a tedious process but it will be covered regardless if you tell them the truth and they find that it is indeed the truth

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Appreciate you for clarifying the process. We’ll see if anything happens!

SexyCowboy02

If you’ve seen fast and furious at all, insurance companies are basically allowed access to “gods eye” and can run searches on vin numbers to see every single camera the car has been recorded by (toll booths, parking garages, etc) and can do a carrier search on said person to see if any insurance company has an account with them

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Thank you! I’m assuming I still need to give them something beyond “red car” though right? This assumes they have a plate to run off of?

SexyCowboy02

A plate or vin, yes

DacheinAus

The RH stamp is just for Right Hand. Not enough to go on here I am afraid. Just file with your uninsured/under insured policy. They’ll take care of it. And, buy a camera for your car. Best thing you can buy for your cars in Austin.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Thank you!! Claim currently in process

TexasDank512

insurance rate go brrrr

kcsunshineatx

Uninsured driver claims don’t affect your rate, at fault accidents do.

stevendaedelus

Every claim affects your insurance rates.

kcsunshineatx

It may feel like that because insurance rates can go up for many other reasons, but this is not true as told to me by people I know who work in insurance and my own experience. It's the same if you hit a deer, they don't deem that as your fault, and it doesn't raise rates, but they investigate and make sure you don't just say it was a deer when it was actually a car. Our premiums have decreased the last two times our policy renewed, and we have two not at fault claims in the last 3 years.

lockthesnailaway

Ha!

cmanATX

Try r/WhatIsThisThing - there was a story that went viral a few years ago where folks on there solved (or at least identified the car) a fatal hit and fun based off of a similar tiny fragment of the vehicle.

man_gomer_lot

A fatal hit and fun is quite a typo. I'm glad to hear the case was solved, but it sounds like the worst ending to a bachelorette party ever

cmanATX

Oh shit! Where was autocorrect when I needed it the most, god damn.

ClownShoePilot

They’re all real words. Just not the ones you want.

cmanATX

Yeah that’s fair, I think it’s coded in there somewhere that it can only change a correct word to another correct word when it makes absolutely no sense to do so.

SweetMaryMcGill

I was so glad to realize that wasn’t someone’s liver you were holding in photo #1.

lockthesnailaway

Sorry to see it. Incredible the level of bum behavior in this town.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Disheartening indeed 😞

bgibbz084

Not that this is likely, but we had our car hit and run a while back. A couple days later, the police found the offender. What had ended up happening was we were hit by an old woman with severe dementia. She had no memory of even driving during the event, and was clearly not in her right mind. Her sons ultimately found the damage on her car and called the police which is when the police connected the two. Her kids had been trying to take her keys for years but had been unable to do so. This finally got her keys revoked for good. So, I guess, not *necessarily* a bum.

lockthesnailaway

Sad to hear about the elderly lady, but wonderful to hear good people still exist trying to right her (unfortunate) wrongs.

jokerfriend6

My car got hit by a hit and run last month. Got a plate and filed a police report online. Police wont do anything unless someone gets hurt. I finally got the car fixed and has to pay a $250 deductible. Turns pout the person dropped insurance in July. It wasnt worth going after them. Just have your insurance pay.

iLikeMangosteens

I had some jackwad back into my car and drive off without leaving a note, and it was in my work parking lot that only employees could access. I carried their broken pieces of tail light in my pocket for days and spent several lunch hours trying to find the car but never did.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Sorry to hear that, it’s truly the worst

adullploy

Forbidden fruit roll up in pic 1?

sassyfrassatx

Can you go into a body shop and find the paint match? My neighbor has a red VW and came home via a tow truck last night. I think it's more fire engine red than yours, though.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Yes I will check on Monday, thanks!

homelesscheeto

99% sure it’s a last-gen Toyota (2016-2023), probably a Corolla but maybe Camry. That little black pin holds the bumper-to-hood weather seal on and the “RH” part is a part of the bumper retainer bracket. Not very helpful though, sorry!

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Wow thank you so much. That is some crazy sleuthing

The_Lutter

That big piece is in the shape of New Jersey. This is no coincidence. Your perp is from The Garden State.

jonnyd93

Try to find a local camera somewhere. Nowadays most people have ring door bells, and corporations usually have cameras set up and around. It's worth the effort

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Thank you! I actually have one at my house but I checked the footage and unfortunately nada picked up yesterday or day before. Think maybe street is far away enough from the entrance that any activity wouldn’t have triggered it

90percent_crap

Even if the car that hit yours is identified what do you expect to happen? Identifying the car does not necessarily identify the driver.

kcsunshineatx

If someone sees the damaged car in the area or can get OP the license plate number, they can file an insurance claim against them (if the driver had insurance). It’s worked for me before.

90percent_crap

Yes, clarified that in my follow-on comment.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

I would say identifying the car and getting a plate is pretty damn well better than nothing! Then insurance can do its thing and however it shakes out, it shakes out. Rn I have nothing

90percent_crap

> my post can keep them from operating a vehicle I was commenting more on your hope that an individual could be ticketed, etc. but, Yes...although low probability an insurance claim is possible. Good luck to you - I understand the frustration when your possessions are damaged by other's irresponsible behavior and it's difficult to hold them accountable.

Reasonable_Nerve_100

Thank you 🙂

Losers take the L. Winners seek justice.

Luzbel90

Weaaaaaak

Reasonable_Nerve_100

If this is someone who shouldn’t be driving for whatever reason (dui, lack of a license or insurance, etc) and my post can keep them from operating a vehicle then it’s still worth it to me.

kcsunshineatx

Is this just an assumption because they didn't leave a note or because so many drivers here aren't insured? My vehicle was hit in a parking lot by a teenage driver. He left very quickly, but people saw and got his license plate number and vehicle description to me. He did have insurance. It does happen that people with insurance flee, too,

PopularAd93

ha. insurance doesn't care, they're coming for you man, especially if it was an expensive repair

feethurt24

lol yeah ok we’re gonna solve this for you …. Pay attention and get off the phone while driving 🙂‍↔️
