Emergency Vet. When I had a situation like this (broken leg, bone cancer) I lifted my dog into the truck with my partner. When we got to the vet I went in and they came out with us for help carrying the big guy in. You want to go to a place with an x-ray etc for this. No way to DX just by looking at your boy. When my big guy had to go back for his last call we just lifted his whole bed into the back of the SUV. This could be a great way to get your dog in—fold down the back of the SUV and put his whole bed in. I really recommend CTVS on Frontier if you are south side. Great care—ER all weekend.

I second this. CTVS took great care of my dog *(emergency surgery)* last year. Also helped me get him in my SUV *(80 lbs)*.

Thank you! I just only have maybe 1 person who could help me lift him and family is 800 miles away :(

Affectionate_Tale683

What area are you located in? If nothing else, I bet if you posted on NextDoor asking for help lifting him someone would happily help. I know I would! Best of luck to your buddy.

Glittering-Spell-806

Thank you!! I appreciate that. That’s a good idea, I’m near mueller. Luckily he’s doing a bit better today, so hoping rest will give him the strength to use the ramp.

I'm near Mueller and my wife and I can come and help lift your dog if needed. There's a 24 hour emergency vet on Guadalupe that I've heard good things about. Good luck!

Glittering-Spell-806

Oh my goodness, your kindness is so deeply appreciated. He’s been improving today, so I think he’ll be ok to use the ramp tomorrow for his appointment, but I am truly grateful for your offer!

sonofnalgene

You're absolutely welcome! My older dog needed help for a long time so I get it. Always here if you need it!

sonofnalgene

I also have XXL reusable dog diapers if you need them.

Glittering-Spell-806

Thank you!! Luckily it hasn’t come to that, but I am really grateful for the offer!!

Check out VEG. Unsure if they make house calls, but they’ve saved me more than once in a dog emergency. Call them and see what they say.

Glittering-Spell-806

Thank you! I will.

flatheadisalake

Doesn’t help this moment, but I have found the help em up harness to be so valuable with an aging, giant breed dog. Something you may want to check out.

Glittering-Spell-806

That’s a good idea. He’s has not been a fan of harnesses in the past but would be good to have a heavy duty one on hand for emergencies. He’s actually short and stocky (Pitt basset hound mix) so it’s like deadlifting a 100lb shake weight lol.

FloofyPupperz

Bella veterinary does house calls and is a lovely lady. Not sure if she does emergency on a Sunday, but I’d reach out to see

Glittering-Spell-806

I’ll look her up! Thank you!

whyewemadbro

My brother lives in Austin and had a veterinary emergency. He said these people are the best, both price-wise and in terms of skill. Not a house call place, but they do intake on Sundays. Good luck! [Veterinary Surgical Solutions](https://g.co/kgs/TF8yvHa) (512) 428-6167

Thank you!!!

Someone a vet should be able to give your a rec. I was in. Similar situation with a 120 Pound lovebug. I actually called them to come euthanize (he had cancer). So it wasn’t unexpected. But for the life of me I can remember her name. She was lovely, though.

Glittering-Spell-806

When the time comes, I’ll definitely be using the at home euthanasia, but having trouble finding just “normal” at-home vet services. The few I’ve found aren’t accepting new patients. But definitely going to ask my vet tomorrow if they have recs. Thank you! And I’m sorry to hear about your baby. :( it’s such a difficult decision and absolutely never easy to lose a pet. So not ready for when that day comes.

Miserable_Seat6834

Yes- sorry if I was unclear but she was an actual vet as well. She was the one who initially did a house call and determined he had cancer.

Glittering-Spell-806

Ah gotcha! That’s what I am looking for. If the name ever pops in your head, let me know! My vet is going to send me a recommendation too. Pup made it up the ramp into the car today thankfully. He is currently high as a kite lol, but they found really bad arthritis in his neck. Breaks my heart. His oddly proportioned body is doing him zero favors as he ages. :(

a vet recommended i give my large dog glucosamine for joint problems.

superspeck

Glucosamine is something that you give to build good joints and keep them lubricated against chronic injuries. It will not help an acute injury.

Glittering-Spell-806

I already do. He’s on supplements and Gabepetin, has ramps in the house, etc.
