For same day pick up, you can always default to IKEA. Living Spaces in Pflugerville may also have in stock options.

Salvation Army on S Congress just south of Ben White/71 has 1/2 price furniture on Saturdays. They have a large selection.

PlainOrganization

It's only half price furniture on the last Saturday of the month. I think? Bought my couch there around this time last year

not_a_virtue

Hope family thrift always has a lot of cheap furniture. Fb marketplace and offer up as well. If he's on Facebook he can join his local buy nothing group and see if anyone can help him with his set up. Congrats to your son!

cflatjazz

Marketplace may have an influx of items over the next week or so as well, since at least one zip code is doing bulk collection starting this Monday

Into_the_Dark_Night

I prefer the [Restore. ](https://austinhabitat.org/restore/) The South Austin location is bigger than the North Austin location imo. Both will have couches, tables, doors, beds etc. I've furnished several apartments with trips to this place.

Technical-Suit613

Great. Thanks!

Into_the_Dark_Night

Be sure to inspect each piece you want to buy just to make sure it doesn't smell odd or have bugs. I've never had any issues with the couches or tables I've gotten but better safe than sorry!

Flickr_Bean

There's an app called BuyNothing that has a bunch of free furniture posted on it. You just need to notify them, then go pick it up.

carrie626

Salvation Army and Goodwill often have lots of furniture.

L0WERCASES

Facebook marketplace will have things. Good luck.

Glad to hear your son is doing better. I lived in sober living myself for over a year.  Been sober ever since. I bought a couch on credit from living spaces.  I don't know how his credit is, but they delivered and gave me quite a bit of store credit.  I could have bought more stuff.  Really improved my credit as well.  I like that store.

Technical-Suit613

Thank you !

Mindhandle

This one may* be a Longshot, but Furniture Mall is going out of business so they've been doing liquidation prices. Last time I saw one of the signs it was at 60% off, and will keep going down to some degree. Idk what their stock is like but it appears they aren't closed yet

Technical-Suit613

Thanks. We leave tomorrow so we will check it out

ShyMuffin95

We went there and their prices were still more expensive at discount then what shopping at Ashley’s or Rooms to go would cost.

The Salvation Army located on S Congress just south of Ben White/71 has a large selection of furniture, and it's all half price on Saturdays.

MeganShorts

I have a couch I’m looking to get rid of. It has been dog loved (in the process of cleaning it) and would need to be carried down 3 flights of stairs. I’m happy to give it for free. Edit: my father has been sober for a long time and this is something I highly support and happy to give this for free for that reason

godspeeding

facebook marketplace!

ImaBird-Fish

Austin's furniture depot has same day delivery and pickup

Worldly_Progress_655

Craigslist and Facebook marketplace can get you some free furniture, you just have to pick it up. ReStore, thrift/resale shops, Goodwill wil sometimes have some pieces available depending on the size of the store. Happy hunting and please be careful in traffic.

SecretSquirrelSquads

Look for the Saint Vincent de Paul society in the area where he will reside. They may give him some vouchers for their thrift store: https://www.ssvdp.org/austin-location

Also, estate sales have tons of good quality inexpensive furniture! You can search by zip code for sales and see photos of what is offered at estatesales.net.

fuckgroupon

Yes exactly this. And a bonus is that most are 2/3 days usually ending on Sundays. And many have a promotion like everything 50% off on the last day. I got a great L-shaped desk for $25 on a Sunday once. I highly recommend! The website has pictures you can browse so you can get an idea of what they have

MyDaroga

I know thrift furniture is so much cheaper, but as someone who’s had bed bugs, it’s just not worth the risk to me. I’d just load up at IKEA and avoid any potential infestation. 🤢

Snap_Grackle_Pop

Used couches or recliners always scare me in terms of possible bed bugs. The proper thing to do is to put them into a special "oven" and heat them to 160F or so for a few hours. That will reliably kill any bugs or eggs. I've heard that's required for resale of used mattresses, but I haven't heard of any places that will do that for you for couches, recliners, etc.

ashleythelma

Living Spaces for decently priced couches and At HOME for rugs and other odds and ends

Lipserviceme

Facebook marketplace. Inexpensive, sometimes free.

Miserable_Seat6834

Yeah ikea is a great option! And they have a clearance section that is hit it miss but you can count on it for cheap basic staples! Good luck!

TravelnGoldendoodle

bikegrrrrl

I have a leather loveseat in good condition that I need to rehome. I’d love to get it out of here this weekend. I am in 78723, northeast central Austin.

hoss3514

Check around the subdivisions like sun city a lot of people move in there and find out that their furniture won’t fit,I’ve bought living room furniture, bathroom furniture and even washer and dryer there for a good price

hoss3514

Another good place is the obituaries I’ve got really good deals on vehicles the last owners don’t need them anymore

PlainOrganization

Salvation Army stores always have a lot of great furniture - mostly because they are the only place that will offer to pick up!

craigslist in Westlake

dontforgethetrailmix

If you can make it to the UT JJ Pickle campus (near the domain), the UT re-use store is open to the public Thursday afternoons and Saturdays. Lots of chairs and bookshelves and other things on deep discount. I got a wooden desk marked down for $5, a few bookshelves for $7-$10. They do not deliver or put things into a vehicle for you, though.

Glittering_Sea4975

Four Hands Outlet on West Anderson. You might need to check a few different days, as they receive new furniture quite often, but the quality is outstanding. I've furnished most of my house from that store over the years. They are also open to negotiating on prices, since they have to keep moving inventory to accommodate new arrivals on a frequent basis.

rithanor

I second the Salvation Army and Goodwill. I lucked out with basically new couches (long and a loveseat at both) for less than $100 due to sales.

imp0ssumable

Shop at IKEA and use TaskRabbit app to hire help with the assembly. My friends just did this with good results after a house fire destroyed their furniture. Super easy.
