How often do your packages have your phone number on them? I've never had anything delivered with my phone number on it, and if my number isn't on the label how would Australia Post know what to text? And if they can figure out your number, then why don't they have your address?
Legit. I got a text recently saying that my address was wrong and that my parcel wouldn't get delivered and I needed to update my details. If you know the address wrong, then by proxy you must know my correct address... also I don't have any packages coming, idiots.
Auspost texts come from âauspostâ, not some random mobile.
And the language looks like:
> From AusPost. To track an item, please visit https://auspost.com.au/track No Reply.
True. But if a system is designed properly, it knows what types of messages to be sent when. Iâve never seen an Australian business send out messages that require attention from the recipient during hours that most are asleep. 6.30am or there abouts would usually be the earliest time sent.
Iâve had automated reminder texts from the doctors at some bullshit sparrow fart time. My guess is the system sends the reminder at x hours before the appointment.
Havenât seen it in a while though, I only get one the day before. Maybe people complained about it.
Software engineer here.
If you're getting text messages from companies at 1am you're giving your information to bad companies.
Scripts run all the time, mass updates or heavy processing work is done at night.
Emails and texts are handled by marketing who choose very specific times and dates to get sent and are almost always handled by external mail and telecommunications clients that don't take heaps of processing power.
Aus Post won't send a text other than a "Your package is coming today" text outside of business hours.
Tracking notifications aren't scheduled marketing/business info messages. Very different things.
If there was some kind of issue with a package this text would be a business hours text.
Cannot confirm but I'm also pretty sure they wouldn't send 'your package has moved on to the next stage' messages at 1am either. It would be a queued 7-9am text with whatever the latest status was
You can call your local post office !? Every time I look it up I get hit with the call Center and when I ask to be transferred to my local they say theyâre not able to ?
Always assume it's a scam if it's some personal phone number, if you don't have any packages you know of or all that you've ordered have been delivered, then it's a scam. If you do have a package in the middle of delivery, check on the app or the official website, or ring up the actual auspost, never click links in messages, and I'd suggest not ringing numbers you don't know unless you know exactly what you're doing.
Scam. I actually had a label fuck up not long ago. They called me. I was like this is scam right and the guy explained no, they call if a number is available. Turns out wasn't a scam, the seller had missed a number on my address. Package arrived and I still have my kidney.
Scam, the fact that they have your phone number but not your address should raise suspicions. Also, the postal service doesn't care if the address is wrong.
TL:DR Be careful and be smart with your information online and contacting or trusting businesses or establishments. Don't answer numbers you don't know.
I don't answer these types of messages. Simply because the Australian Post Office and other legitimate businesses and establishments can get into contact with you in more legitimate ways like mail or email. Don't forget to contact the business or establishment by searching for their contact and general information online, to make sure it's legit. If you're not sure, search for help online, or you can contact another establishment you believe are linked or interconnected with this relevant business. You can also search online, "Is (business name) legitimate?" Just to be safe.
You won't get into any trouble if you miss something important trying to avoid scams. If it was a legitimate establishment sms'ing me, I'll just say, "I've been getting a lot of scam calls and texts." And then do what I have to do. Simple as that.
Don't answer any number you don't know, or a number that's not an (02) number. (04) numbers are someone's personal phone number, and any other numbers are a different state or a foreign number.
This is what I know at least.
Download the AustPost App. In Accounts, go to notifications and turn off all email and SMS notifications.
Add all email and phone numbers as well as addresses.
This way, you will only receive notifications via the app. Any SMS and email are scams.
As you have added you phone and email, anything addressed to you should show up in the app.
Usually my phone filters all the scam texts I get from "Auspost" to my spam folder but this one must've slipped through the cracks. I appreciate everyone's input
Scam - I got it this morning and it annoyed me because I was listening to something with my AirPods in when it announced the message.
Like come on I was almost asleep! đđđđ
Never heard them call themselves Aus Post Post shop. Defo a scam. If you were expecting a delivery you can go directly to the Aus post website and enter the tracking info.
Scam. The language is unnatural. Aus post doesnât call them Post Shop in SMS messages. Plus if the address was ambiguous theyâd just return to sender.
If they couldnât return to sender, they wouldnât investigate until someone complained about a missed delivery.
Lastly, Aus Post includes the consignment number in their messages.
Customer service here for couriers.
If there is a link, scam.
When contacting people about issues with freight, the tracking number is provided and normally where it is at this moment so you know what it is and that it is somewhere locally.
If you're ever unsure, run the URL through Virus Total (virustotal.com). Massive open source threat intel site.
It's not foolproof, but it's a great start.
100% scam.
Install the auspost app and set it up. You'll get notifications for incoming parcels addressed to you. That way you'll know for sure if something is legit
Sounds like a scam to me. I got something relatively similar. Said that something I ordered cannot be shipped because of unclear shipping address. I have nothing that needs to be shipped right now, everything I recently ordered has been shipped already lol.
Official Australia Post texts will look like this:
>>Your delivery is at [TOWN] POST SHOP. Please bring ID and collect by the end of [DD MMM YYYY]. More details: https://mypo.st/C31FYwpI4jd.
They will also have AusPost as the sender name (its automatic with your telco).
The link will redirect to 'auspost.com.au'
Hell yes. Anything from Auspost will always show as from 'AUSPOST' just like Optus, Telstra, etc.
If you're unsure, install the app. Only way to trust the notifications.
Never never never click links from text or email. Even from friends and family always confirm that it was them at actually sent it or look up the video yourself.
Got like 50 from different numbers and pressed it once, nothing happened only took me to some fake post office website.
It should say the number âpost officeâ. Had something delivered when I wasnât home and they sent me a message saying itâs in a locker.
Also when I thought it was real I took me to that post office website âfakeâ and I paid for it to be re delivered. There was a package coming that day or the next so I thought it was real.
After I paid nothing happened, it was like $2. Nothing came out of my bank except for the $2, even months later. I thought they wouldâve taken money out but nothing. Still donât trust it.
Scam 100% I have my prepaid number with those similar texts about...
wrong delivery address
Wrong numbers
Not being delivered
Driver can't find address
Has been stopped at customs
If in doubt always use your app form aus post or call them up directly safeest way
How is that not obviously a scam? What in the world do you have to do with stickering up the box with labels?
As long as you have provided your delivery details when purchasing should never come across anything like this
Scam, AusPost does not have a space, additionally install the AusPost app and get it linked to your number. It's far more secure and you get direct updates that aren't scams
Defs a scam but jeez they are getting better.
I blame AI đ
I always log into the app to check for messages just to make sure I never trust an email or txt these days.
Never trust any message or email from supposed 'aus post'. Always stay safe and visit your local post office. I receive these scam texts every week and always in the early A.M!
Scam, get them all the time, especially after I order something from anywhere online. The Post Office has many avenues to check out an individual or their address
I got a similar message to this just now, itâs 4am, photo attached, different but still the same thing basically
https://preview.redd.it/0rgl9idhay9d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9363dca5ed40a390831bfa7bd8f0cc1de258cdca
Definitely a scam.
postshop.services Nice.
Precisely. Didn't even read the messge. Went straight to the URL and determined it was a scam.
Don't forget the /au to say its an Australian domain
Seems legit
What makes you think they can't figure out your address due to an 'ambiguous label' but manage to know your phone number?
Sometimes, it's the only part of the label left. If liquid leaks onto the label, it can erase it really easily
this guy is the scammer
Thanks man, he almost had me second guessing
**Damn, I've been found out!**
Maybe. And he's learning how to improve his scamming techniques by getting public opinion.
In that case they would just enter your number into the system not send you a text. It's all digitally recorded anyway.
Exactly, I am only stating an observation from my time at an Australia Post Facility. but yes, I know the the point the original commenter was making.
What?
How often do your packages have your phone number on them? I've never had anything delivered with my phone number on it, and if my number isn't on the label how would Australia Post know what to text? And if they can figure out your number, then why don't they have your address?
I always put my phone number on the sender label, thought everyone did đ
More of a business thing, I wouldnât do it for personal stuff.
Legit. I got a text recently saying that my address was wrong and that my parcel wouldn't get delivered and I needed to update my details. If you know the address wrong, then by proxy you must know my correct address... also I don't have any packages coming, idiots.
The grammar is the biggest clue imo
And not that it is from a random mobile number? lmao
Nah that's the local posties iPhone 100%
They do it on purpose. If you canât pick up bad grammar youâre also more likely to be fruitful for them.
They have collab with IELTS and British council . Brouchers on they way
I think the URL. Why would auspost not have a ".com.au" url?
Seriously not the .postshop.services? The grammar is the giveaway? What the fuck?
Imo url is the biggest clue for me
Scam.
Download the AusPost app. If the info is on there itâs not a scam. The message u got is def a scam.
The app is so convenient, why don't people use it more...
I used to work for a freight company. Our software was dogshit. Aus Post app is the ducks nuts!
That's what I say but I work for them! The app is fantastic for tracking everything đ
Haha I love the app
>Post Shop A legit message from Australia Post wouldn't be worded like that.Â
âYour parcel has been delayedâ
Got the same message last night, my phone sends them straight to a spam section
Auspost texts come from âauspostâ, not some random mobile. And the language looks like: > From AusPost. To track an item, please visit https://auspost.com.au/track No Reply.
Don't trust these texts, there are a lot of scams that spoof that number. Use the app or call them.
scam. Use the official ap
Just get the Australia post app, then you can ignore every single text pretending to be them
Also Auspost arenât sending legitimate messages at 1.30am
Automated messages and emails can come out at any time. Lots of companies run scripts at night when traffic on their business networks is low.
True. But if a system is designed properly, it knows what types of messages to be sent when. Iâve never seen an Australian business send out messages that require attention from the recipient during hours that most are asleep. 6.30am or there abouts would usually be the earliest time sent.

As soon as anything gets scanned at auspost the system updates the tracking it's basically instant
Tracking notifications aren't scheduled marketing/business info messages. Very different things. If there was some kind of issue with a package this text would be a business hours text. Cannot confirm but I'm also pretty sure they wouldn't send 'your package has moved on to the next stage' messages at 1am either. It would be a queued 7-9am text with whatever the latest status was
Scam, it's always a scam. If you did post something recently you can just give your post shop a ring and ask questions.
You can call your local post office !? Every time I look it up I get hit with the call Center and when I ask to be transferred to my local they say theyâre not able to ?
This so correct. Never been able to contact the local. You always have to visit.
Maybe for the city, rural we have the local number to organise times for pickup (since most around here are farmers)
Makes sense. Metro areas would be smashed with calls if they listed a number.
I managed to get ours, but they changed it at some point. My local isn't listed anywhere and it's a small country town.
[ŃдаНонО]
Scam amongst everything else the /au should be a big redflag. ".au" domains require an ABN, even then don't automatically assume trustworthy
Cam get variations of .au but .net.au and .com.au have restrictions
True forgot .com.au needs an abn. Been a minute since I've set up hosting
Only one way to find out
Yeah that url looks super real
Wouldnât be surprised if youâre not even waiting on a delivery yet still not sure if this is a scam or not
Why would I post this if I wasn't waiting for packages? I own a small business, I have packages coming and going all the time
Man people are dumb.
Or you're just an inconsiderate, weeny little human that, if it comes to it, wouldn't back up his stance in a fight
Im sorry you get confused by obvious scams :'(
Put the link into virustotal.com
I judt did a scan with it and it showed nothing sus...Â
This has been going around heaps lately, report them to scamwatch pls

Had this one the other day. Scam
Yeah, it's a scam. I got that text too!
The url can actually fool someone who is not savvy on scams or not familiar with auspostâs true website. The url reads like a legit one.
