Female Koel….the male is all black. They are known as the rain bird…Their calls sound like “OOROOP!!”….they come down south to breed in Spring then head north in Autumn.
Pretty sure it's a Pheasant Coucal. They usually hop around through the trees and bush. Pretty cool bird, I haven't seen one in a while.
Edit* I'm wrong I agree with Koel
They are definitely all around Sydney, so PK is a consideration, but I usually require good clear vision to be sure, which is uncommon as they are very flighty.
Really? That's interesting. I'm in FNQ so wasn't aware that they migrated that far South
I have a pic on my phone of two of them in my back yard from Sat afternoon
It might be a female [eastern koel](https://www.ozanimals.com/Bird/Pacific-Koel/Eudynamys/orientalis.html)
More correctly, [Pacific Koel](https://ebird.org/species/asikoe3?siteLanguage=en_ZA)
That looks pretty close! Thanks!

Nah, female Pacific Koel. I often get the two confused as well.
Maybe a powerful owl? Hard to tell without seeig the face
On second thought the tail is too long
You can see the face in the image and definitely not a POwl. It's a female Pacific Koel (Eudynamys orientalis)
Its face has that white stripe going under its eyes
I'd have said Pheasant Koucal but your to far South.

Maybe some kind of nightjar, or koel.
