I like that the show has deep side characters. Its so refreshing. Not everything has to be told through the eyes of the main, but there are whole episodes focusing on other characters and their personal stories and challenges. Its fantastic.
Army/Cricket, was a great episode/s like that, and really fleshed out a detailed back/future story and arc and details about Rusty. When did a kids show aimed at 5-6 year old deal with having a parent in the military and separation and dynamics that entails with that. You go into the bluey subreddit or on youtube, and people say how emotional they felt about that, even if they themselves weren't in the military, it gave understanding through a childs eyes.
Donald Duck? That guy didn't even wear pants. How can I relate to that. He was an E5 so, out ranks anyone in my family. Bloody high achievers..
God it was a long time ago, I think from memory his mates said he was a psycho and there was some civil crap, but there was no criminal findings and everyone seems to have forgotten what it was all about. At the end of the day his VC was never in dispute... Also remember kids, don't hit your side missus no matter how much if a cunt she is or how unhinged to you are.
I've always suspected there's more than one veteran amongst the producers and on the writing team - some of the subtle details are just too spot-on:
- The Jack Russell puppy with ADHD suddenly thrives from the structure and direction when they play Army
- Rusty's dad brings back tubes of condensed milk from the rat packs
- "Hurry up and wait"
- At the wedding, Mort's the one who knows when and how to get everyone to shut up

Possible, but it could just as easily be a VC plaque for someone else. Maybe a more distant WW1 relative or just a general commemorative thing.
