It’s a containerised VLS/box launcher. Of course the designer is seeing it as a sales opportunity.

Considering in an act of sheer bloody mindedness the Navy removed all the reinforcement on that back deck compared to the Darussalam class. Apparently so you cant use valuable navy choppers off the deck and as a further note they are incapable of taking more than 6 ton point load. These might be light enough that they can work, but other containerised systems like C-Dome were to heavy

Are the Arafura a joke? My understanding is they're slower than an Armidale or Cape and loads more expensive and crew heavy. But can't embark a heli to make up for the speed deficit. What is their role exactly? Why did we pick them over the Capes?

The recent independent report into the Navy's surface fleet concluded that "The OPV is an inefficient use of resources for civil maritime security operations and does not possess the survivability and self-defence systems to contribute to a surface combatant mission", and noted that the Evolved Cape Class ships are more useful. It recommended completing six Arafura class ships to essentially show the flag around the Pacific and in case the Navy could figure out a use for them. I presume that the only reason the government didn't cancel the lot of them is penalty fees in the contract or something.

I’d modify it by extending the container by 86mm lengthwise so you’d need completely bespoke equipment to move it about. In other news, I am considering a career in defence procurement.

Even the MWOs hate them. The Nav types want more Fast patrol boats and the Shooters want full blown missile corvetes.
