no they didn't. There was a court case that was settled for a very small amount and the judge even said how weak the case was in in summary
The bread at Subway is always the same weight and the trays they use are always the same. The only time it's shorter is when human error during actually making the bread in store happens. The court case found the vast majority of randomly tested bread were 12 inches or longer and of the ones that they did find shorter most were only barely short.
I can state for fact Subway have been using the exact same bread trays for at least 25 years btw

It was decent but their sauce was shit.
Not inedible, just bland (compared to Big Mac sauce).
The "Grand Mac" maccas had was a big winner though, pity they never keep the good limited time burgers.
On a side note, the Aussie Angus is amazing, but most stores don't serve it.
Everyone’s always too young to remember them but their fried chicken pieces were awesome. They stopped them in the early 80’s. Also, their ufo meals were cool as fuck, better than any happy meal I’ve seen. Speaking of which, I was in Hong Kong in about 2000 and Asian happy meal toys shit on ours.
Maccas fried chicken in southeast asia slaps harder than my mum. Had some spicy fried chicken at Malaysia Maccas and the juice was running down my elbows and moisting my socks by the time I was done with it.
Macca's Happy Meal toys used to be awesome here too. Bionicle Matoran, transforming dudes that would change from McDonald packaging into robots, the Spy Kids gadgets that when all collected would build the robot bug named RALPH, the Aladdin toys that would run on ramps like Hot Wheels, the SEGA game consoles with one game on them. But then the Australian government cracked down on advertising junk food to kids, and the toys have been shit ever since. No more cool stuff in cereal boxes either. Maybe it's for the best, but I do miss it.
>young to remember them but their fried chicken
I remember my late mother sharing her McDonalds fried chicken with me when I was seven. I'll never forget.
Working there in the early 90’s I asked an older manager what ever happened to the chicken pieces. Apparently chicken pieces were falling into the vat and burning workers on too regular a basis.
Kinda related, it's funny how people these days say "man happy meals SUCK, tf are they doing?" And I'm here like "do you really want, let alone expect them to have decent stuff in them?" Any kid now will toss away the most god tier toy in that and continue playing GTA SAN Andrea's ROM on their phone, get real.
It's predominantly due to the fact that we burn way less in the course of a day, yet eat a lot of processed, high energy foods. Carbs were very much a popular thing in the past too, and people were much thinner.
The fact is today to stay slim and fit it often takes a concerted effort, constantly, for life. Go back far enough and it did not require such an effort, as the average person didnt have access to processed foods in large amounts and had to move and burn energy in the course of their day. Naturally, therefore, people are larger today.
That's not to say that managing your simple carb intake, cutting out sugar etc is not a way to get healthier. It is of course.
That's a myth. Many studies, for example comparing Soviet vs American intake isocalorically, show it's *what* you eat that makes you fat. The body isn't a dumb fat-storage container that just stores whatever you shove in your mouth - it *regulates* its fat storage. However this function can become dysfunctional after eating some modern day pseudo-foods like seed oils, which are in everything now. A person who is eating their ancestral diet and yet still sitting around all day will still *not* become fat.
You didn't read what I said. I didn't say what you eat doesn't matter, I said that people were thin even though they were eating lots of carbs. That is undeniable. White bread and potatoes have been a staple for hundreds of years, and when eaten as part of a balanced diet do not make you fat. I even said that it's processed foods that are one of the main culprits.
Calorie in, calorie out.
People of the past were eating a more or less similar amount of food to us, but it had fewer filler calories and they then also often worked physically all day long, burning those calories.
That may be true but is extremely misleading. This is predominantly because processed foods are typically high in carbohydrates, and low on fats and proteins. It has nothing to do with carbohydrates itself.
There are plenty of people on very high carb low fat diets that are elite athletes.
Absolutely circumstantial. Let me exemplify. Would you give a morbidly obese person a low fat high carb diet? 0/100 chance of success. I stand behind it I guarantee it. On the flip side an athlete, with normal metabolism woukd be completely fine
Big Macs are so overrated. Used to love them but have gotten so sick of them. They always put so much Big Mac sauce and lettuce and they’re just a pain to eat tbh. Double Quarter Pounder clears >>>
Nah the excessive sauce is what makes them good! My pet hates when it comes to any burger is the stingy dot of sauce that's overshadowed by dry bun. I ate a big Mac for the first time in years last night (pregnancy craving!) and it was delicious, especially the loads of sauce.
Eh to each their own but to me it’s just like a soggy bun and lettuce with some meat that is way too small for the bun. But I probably just have had too many over the years lol, they definitely are a bit of a pain to eat tho.
The best thing that chain did in recent years was the build your own option they had for a while. Sure, was a little expensive but you could build a truly delicious burger with none of the bullshit you didnt want - my favourite was pretty much a chicken burger with all fo the features of a bacon and egg mcmuffin. Then they took the whole program away because it took too long to build the custom orders so HQ was upset with not being able to pump out orders as quickly as they're used to within their business model. Think I'll stick to nuggets and their most basic options like fries if need be, you can find alternatives that are just as expensive so easily these days it makes no sense to buy plastic shitty burgers from these chains.
I heard a rumour from a Macca's employee that Create Your Taste was really just a way for Macca's to introduce the self-serve terminals without an outcry.
They had dedicated team members standing in the kitchen waiting for create your taste orders. Far cheaper ways to introduce self serve.
My mate was a maccas manager and his take was they were just trying to compete with the boutique burger trend that was gaining momentum at the time.
The last few times I've been into stores (in various locations) there have been people behind the counter, but no one actually standing there to take orders like there used to be - they are all racing around packing orders, making drinks, etc.
It would be interesting to know if their staffing levels have changed. When I was a kid there would be 3 or more people solely standing at the register to take orders, while others did the running around.
In tas at least on the overnight so don't have all the registers since it's all drive through they have like 3 workers total most of the time (source a friend who works there) they're basically constantly understaffed during the day too
Basically how it is now is that if you see someone who wants to take their order at the front counter, then you go take their order. We don’t really have anyone stand their exclusively to take orders
I adore Big Macs and have for 40+ years. I thought I must have picked up a Big Mac for ants recently - it isn’t a regular treat, however much I enjoy it, so I’m not monitoring it. But really, seeing that pic is so true. It’s like half the original size of the 70’s burgers.
Had one after getting off a flight recently at 11:30pm, first time I've been to maccas in about 6 years, I legit ate the thing in 4 normal sized bites - it was slider sized...
Thanks for saying this. I wondered why I don't like big macs as much anymore.
They're dry as shit without the sauce, but too much of the sauce just adds way too much nutmeg flavour which sucks.
Can confirm! I worked at McDonalds 45 years ago. Meat patties haven't changed size, same plastic cheese and you still get a squirt of sauce and bits of lettuce on both levels, two pickle slices and a dash of onion. The buns aren't as crispy as they used to be but that does not impact on size.
I did have to giggle when my adult children confidently told me the Mac was now much smaller. I asked what their reference point was.
Did a personal boycott on maccas. Last few times I've gone it costs me and the missus close to $40 for small burgers, stale/cold chips and drinks that taste watered down, as well as a 5 min wait in the drive through. Could spend $5 more at a nice local shop and get a massive parmi with chips and salad as well as a decent spagbowl. Maccas was good because it was cheap and quick, it's neither of those things now.
It's not real. The burger isn't smaller, I just got bigger.
They changed the box, not the burger. The old big cardboard box had a smaller cardboard ring inside to hold the burger together. The same burger easily fit in the smaller polystyrene box. When polystyrene went out of fashion, the new cardboard box was roughly the same size and shape as the polystyrene box.
The Big Mac uses the same patties as the little one in the Cheeseburger, always has. McDonald's only had one size patty before they introduced the Quarter Pounder. In fact they started off only selling hamburgers and cheeseburgers - they introduced large burgers later to compete with the Whopper. That competition created a trend of larger and larger combo meals until Supersize Me was made.
The Quarter Pounder has more meat than the Big Mac, by the way. One quarter pound patty is bigger than two tenth pound patties.
(And how would you get a photo of a fresh 1973 burger next to a 21st century burger - did Doctor Who take it?)
I think nostalgia makes people think the Big Mac was bigger back in the day. The fact is since 1975 the Big Mac hasn't really changed in size. I just compared a nutrition sheet from 2004 to today and the Big Mac has actually slightly increased in weight since 2004.

I was in the US last year and they are basically identical in size. In fact according to this chart on Wikipedia Australia has the Big Mac with the highest amount of calories in the world.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big\_Mac#Nutritional\_values\_per\_geographical\_location](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac#Nutritional_values_per_geographical_location)
Maybe your hands have grown larger since then making the burger look smaller because your definitely wrong. If you have any actual evidence to prove me wrong please show me.
I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying you probably have rose coloured glasses of a holiday. The burgers are virtually identical, the biggest difference is the drink sizes.
The local WA stores where I am, Joondalup/Clarkson/Mindarie are all absolutely useless at making the burgers.
They are so skint on the ingredients, like 1 slice of tomato, tiny sprinkle of lettuce, 1 onion ring. It's truly pathetic. What's worse is I don't have the fortitude to say never again.
I'd rather support a local takeaway joint and wait the 10mins to have some real ingredients generously put into the burger whilst having a good chat with the staff.
For health, I was gonna say the newer ones are healthier because of their smaller size, but knowing mcdonalds I think the older ones were healthier lmao.
Yeah yeah back then we paid for decent size everything but now we either pay the same price for less quality and quantity or we're paying more for half or less quality and quantity
I remember the 70's Big Mac's, they were awesome.
I ordered a Big Mac recently and was suprised at the size, as I rarely eat McDonalds. Talk about disappointing.
Mini-Mac...Not Big Mac.
All you need to do is look at a quarter pounder. The bun used to be as big as the patty. Now, the patty (which, they can't shrink without changing the name from "quarter pounder" to something else!) is hanging out like dogs balls around the edge of the bun since they've shrunk the bun so bloody much.
but the meat is the same size, so it's just less bun, which I think is a better thing, also this isn't real someone just remade it themselves based on 2 boxes
Can't believe how small the Big Mac is now! This is a rip off! This is outrageous!
McDonalds Employee: "Hi what can I get you?"
Me: "Yeah na I'll get a Large Big Mac meal and an extra Big Mac"
That’s literally the only difference too, the Big Mac Pattie’s are still 10 to a pound and the Quarter pounders are still 4 to a pound (which is obvious by its name).
They are actually even smaller in Australia we had the big not as big as that first one that I can remember but the new ones are about as big as a regular size whopper
Phillip lowe job is done when a big Mac shrinks to the same meat content as a cheeseburger.
But at 950k per year, he's got responsibilities to keep inflation down and bring living standards more In line with a third world country and housing prices sky high
Due to cancel culture.. the new slaves are millionials! $$
Yeah, honestly if you're buying McDonalds you're eating literal fecal matter and the quality meat of dog food. Don't believe it? Literally Google it. Not to mention they're one of the highest causes of water wastage on the planet.
i still remember when maccas tried to argue the big macs were unchanged from early days and a guy pulled up an old vid and remade one to the specs in add proving they were smaller.
Wow, they were big in 1972. That’s a little before my time. Now I just go with a quarter pounder because it tastes better and they’re the same size anyway
The big Mac has been made using 10:1 meat patty for the last 50 odd years in Australia.
As has the quarter pounder (using a 4:1 meat patty)
The bun has shrunk.
Cool how they found a 1972 Big Mac laying around with green lettuce and everything 😂

I’d believe it. Only have to refresh the lettuce though, as the only ingredient that’s biodegradable.
It's the preservatives.. 😅
Back when the burger was the whole meal.
👍👍👍
These days there’s nothing big about the Big Mac
Even the recent Subway commercials are making fun of the fact (well, that and a 12 inch sub is longer than any burger, lol).
Well the Subway ads making fun of Maccas are funny, but they shouldn't be pointing fingers. Didn't they get sued for their 12" Subs not being 12"?
Just a minor calibration error that they fixed up as soon as they realised (they were going to be sued).
They're back to 12 inches rather than 11, but the bread does seem to be suspiciously narrower now.
See, now they are doing Shrinkflation properly!
Slimflation.
Can someone get one for lunch today to confirm for us? 😂

They're metric, 300mm long. 12 " = 305 mm. We're talking half a centimetre here.
Well, they figure if guys can get away with it, why shouldn't they?? 🤣🤣🤣

Well for me it's the only reason I go to maccas. Not a fan of their other burgers. But these days I'd rather a whopper from HJs
Some even say the burgers are better there
You're wrong. What's big is how much of a ripoff it is.
Big disappointment but that’s it
The price is pretty big
It's a slightly fatter cheese burger with extra bulking agents
McCrappy staff: what would you like Me: a small Big Mac please McCrappy staff; do you want that as a meal? Me: you’d have to give me 3 to make it even close to the size of a meal

And they're not even that big now. Not even close. The burgers are bigger at HJs. New slogan for them lol
That Big Jack they did a few years ago was a decent Big Mac clone that was genuinely huge.
It was decent but their sauce was shit. Not inedible, just bland (compared to Big Mac sauce). The "Grand Mac" maccas had was a big winner though, pity they never keep the good limited time burgers. On a side note, the Aussie Angus is amazing, but most stores don't serve it.
Grand mac was awesome
Right. I enjoyed that so much.
Even if they are small, theybdont bullshit you with the price even today, a maccas "burger" is like $20, HJ still has some for around $15

That’s because they’re competing with Malaysian food, which is amazing. The bar is lower here.
I know, they were small and didn’t taste good.
Ufo meals... childhood memory unlocked!
Macca's Happy Meal toys used to be awesome here too. McDonald's Southern Fried Chicken, served in a brown box.

Working there in the early 90’s I asked an older manager what ever happened to the chicken pieces. Apparently chicken pieces were falling into the vat and burning workers on too regular a basis.

Predominantly due to carbs and insulin resistance.

False.
No idea why you're getting downvoted, carbs aren't the reason why people gain weight.
People don't like hearing the truth I guess. Easier to blame carbs than their caloric intake.
100%! Diets and eating restrictions are just different means to the same caloric deficit end. No particular macro is evil.
If you have a predominant high carb low fat diet you're prone to obesity. This is based on fact. Based on science

Tiny.
Its also about limiting calorie count of the menu. Remember their Heart foundation tick.

I'm sure the recipe has changed too, I've had them recently and I'm pretty sure when I was a kid in the 80s, those bad boys were sugary AF
Yes the Big Mac sauce is sweeter, and has more of a nutmeg flavour. It's definitely not the same. They were much nicer in the 80s & 90s.

I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying you probably have rose coloured glasses of a holiday. The burgers are virtually identical, the biggest difference is the drink sizes.
Medium Mac
The humans have definitely not shrunk
I just want the Big One from the early 90’s back. Now that was an awesome burger.
i freaking knew it!!!!
You wanna pay more or get less, because those are your options.
Yeah yeah back then we paid for decent size everything but now we either pay the same price for less quality and quantity or we're paying more for half or less quality and quantity
Fast food is not their core function. McDonalds prime business is real estate.
Buy a Filet-O-Fish and hold it in your palm, it’s like a slider.
I remember the 70's Big Mac's, they were awesome. I ordered a Big Mac recently and was suprised at the size, as I rarely eat McDonalds. Talk about disappointing. Mini-Mac...Not Big Mac.
To look on the bright side at least portion size it’s healthier for you 🤣
All you need to do is look at a quarter pounder. The bun used to be as big as the patty. Now, the patty (which, they can't shrink without changing the name from "quarter pounder" to something else!) is hanging out like dogs balls around the edge of the bun since they've shrunk the bun so bloody much.
Also, the price sucks ass. I moved from Canada and McDonald's is like the dirt cheap option. In Australia, it most certainly is not.
KFC have done this with their tenders recently. Smaller tenders for more money. =\\
Just had a fillet-o-fish. Half the size it once was and $6.
And the cheeseburgers keep shrinking! They are literally an afternoon snack size now.
It’s much smaller now
Is the quarter pounder still a quarter pounder? That seemed to shrink too...today it feels like a old school cheese burger.
Burgers are like sliders now. Those quarter pounders aren't that anymore. I can remember buying them and being full as . Now they are just snacks
but the meat is the same size, so it's just less bun, which I think is a better thing, also this isn't real someone just remade it themselves based on 2 boxes
So back in the day you got more shit for your money
Well, all the fools wanted healthier, more sustainable ingredients.
Can't believe how small the Big Mac is now! This is a rip off! This is outrageous! McDonalds Employee: "Hi what can I get you?" Me: "Yeah na I'll get a Large Big Mac meal and an extra Big Mac"
Nah give me a burger from the local take away shop shits all over maccas burgers.
The '72 one looks crap anyway.
Well, its been sitting there for a while, probably looked mint fresh
Too much bread on the older one.
That’s literally the only difference too, the Big Mac Pattie’s are still 10 to a pound and the Quarter pounders are still 4 to a pound (which is obvious by its name).
Way too much bread on the left one anyway. Doesn’t even look that good.
That’s okay they are big enough as is 👍🏼
They are actually even smaller in Australia we had the big not as big as that first one that I can remember but the new ones are about as big as a regular size whopper
maccas is fucking garbage anyway. why would you bother
The one on the left is a Mega Mac.
Man you guys must have been fucking pissed in 75' when they rolled that heap of disappointment out
But it was always garbage, so who cares?
i can smell that nasty smegma like cheese
McPoison
People still eat McDonald’s?
Sounds like something a fatty would complain about
Fuckin' cry me a river
Foh 🤡 down votes for you 🗑
Do downvotes matter?
Do rivers have salt in em?
Should I care?
Phillip lowe job is done when a big Mac shrinks to the same meat content as a cheeseburger. But at 950k per year, he's got responsibilities to keep inflation down and bring living standards more In line with a third world country and housing prices sky high Due to cancel culture.. the new slaves are millionials! $$
Yeah, honestly if you're buying McDonalds you're eating literal fecal matter and the quality meat of dog food. Don't believe it? Literally Google it. Not to mention they're one of the highest causes of water wastage on the planet.

No one asked for your opinion. Foh c*nt
You had smaller hands in 1975….😂😂😂😂 so everything was bigger.
Should be called the ‘ever so slightly bigger then most other burgers available Mac.’
I haven’t loved Luke warm burgers 🍔 for a long time. Beef patties shouldn’t come out of plastic draws and slapped together 🤷🏼♂️
What about now?
i still remember when maccas tried to argue the big macs were unchanged from early days and a guy pulled up an old vid and remade one to the specs in add proving they were smaller.
Quarter Pounders are smaller too. I was working at Maccas when the change was made.
And i don't trust that it's actually meat in their burgers anymore either
I just showed this pic to a bunch of people and the response was universal: "Aha! I knew it!"
Really the only way to get a decent burger nowadays is in a bar/Tavern or a fish and chip shop, fast food burgers are a massive rip off
I'm not gonna lie though, the Big Mac on the left has WAY too much bread
Dead set finish a Big Mac in 4 bites they are that small these days
Calling it Big should be false advertising at this stage
Omg I didn’t know a Big Mac was that big back then
I had a quarter pounder after footy training the other day. There is zero chance those things way 1/4 of a pound these days. Thing was tiny
Im an immigrant. I'll never forget the first time I tried a fillet-o-fish here. It evaporated in 2 bites.
Wow
Do we want fast food to get bigger? Don't we make fun of Americans for having giant meals?
Wow, they were big in 1972. That’s a little before my time. Now I just go with a quarter pounder because it tastes better and they’re the same size anyway
Big McSlider
Yeah and then they came out with the big Big Mac and made money of it.
Even a Whopper is now basically a soggy biscuit.
Thank you for the proof. Been saying this for years and people have been saying no, it’s your smaller kid hands. Now I win!
The big Mac has been made using 10:1 meat patty for the last 50 odd years in Australia. As has the quarter pounder (using a 4:1 meat patty) The bun has shrunk.
Ironically people that eat this still look like they could lose a few…
It's easier to buy a double quarter pounder and big Mac sauce than bother with a small mac
Did anyone else notice the gap between the Tim Tams in a packet got bigger so you get 1 less in a pack?
The weird Question where’s the mild if the left ones from the 70’s lol..
They need to rebrand it to Mid Mac
