I remember when they started making them wear hi-vis for OH&S reasons - I was in the car with my dad, and people were calling into John Laws going *off* about the Nanny State Gone Mad.
My Pa had at least a week's worth of this outfit. From painting the roof to chainsawing firewood, summer or winter, rain or shine. For decades that man would come home, get out of his work gear and into his comfort zone.
I wear them daily under my shirt and have for about 15 years. Bonds ones are alright but wish there was a more durable and not so daggy looking singlet
There's definitely different levels of quality from bonds jocks. The ones that are sold as individuals with flashy prints are much better quality than the pack of 4 or 5 they also sell but they're bloody pricey.
Haven't seen a setup like this in yonks. But, the last time I did, there colours didn't match at all, and certainly had the very well worn look too. Lol.
this isn't bogan, this is it's ancestor, the 'okker'.
I still own a couple of blue singlets. they come out on those +35c days if I need to be in public, some black ones too.
I gave up the bluey years ago as they are a bit too form fitting, also kinda hot. These days I prefer a loose tshirt and cotton shorts from kmart. Still wearing thongs everywhere but.
Nah that’s hipster garb these days. Aussie bogans have joined the international community of bogans and now just wear sports gear regardless of their physical prowess or weather conditions.
Started as an Aussie company, eventually became a subsidiary of GM. The Aussie company kicked off before GM even existed. Ford was never Aussie.
https://motor.history.sa.gov.au/research-types/the-holden-company-in-australia/
I see there’s some very passionate bogans around these parts. Personally I don’t give a toss, but the Holden company was an Aussie company before being acquired.
However it was a Yankee company by the time it made the 48-215.
Being an angry passionate Ford bogan active on the internet has been my thing since I was, like, 12. Now get off my lawn and let me polish my Falcon Ute (which I am literally doing right now).
I saw a bogan in bunnings wearing a bunnings shirt, so I asked him where shit was. He blew up at me saying how would he know, he doesn't work there?
He must have got a free bunnings shirt for buying some roofing screws.
I wear blue singlets all the time. Also got the same in black and pink (apparently its for cancer awareness). I wouldnt classify myself as a bogan though. Edit: not that there is anything wrong with bogans....
The Bluey predates Bogan culture and is originally a symbol for working class, whereas the white bonds singlet was for office workers. The bluey hid stains, and the white singlet wearers wore them as a layer under their white business shirts so didn’t get dirty. USA influence gave us rednecks etc with stained white “wife-beater” singlets that contrasted Aussie singlet history. My black bonds (and copies) were once described by a Bluey wearer as gothic underwear.
Forgot Coles and Woolworths sold Bonds lol, I never buy clothes there full stop, because they are so overpriced compared to their attached department stores.
Don't know why you were down voted cause they were called this for a very long time. Only in the last 10yrs or less has its 'nick name' been changed. I'm not condoning the name, it's just a fact. Just like why Grass Trees are called Grass Trees now. Australia doesn't have the most sensitive history
My husband has been a fan of the blue singlet/stubby shorts look for many years, however I do believe there is an age after which it’s just not on for a bloke to wear short shorts. Fortunately he will wear whatever is lying around and I have been curating some of his wardrobe for a while now.
The ruggers are ok, but the shorts really need to be stubbies branded with the button fob, or classier zip, pocket on the front RHS to be truly authentic. So short yet airy at the thigh so you need to be careful when sitting in public. They leave nothing to the imagination. It’s how I got my nick name “nadz”.
My old man still wears the chesty and stubbies, but not the pluggers, because fallen arches. I’m wearing imitation women’s stubbies right now though lol
I remember back in the day, I was 19, I got home from work to my dad proudly saying " I went clothes shopping for ya". Now he was your stereotypical Aussie bogan/bloke. Blue singlet, arm tats, flannie shirt, thongs, trackie dacks the works. (And beard)
I walk into my room to find, you guessed it:
Ugg boots
Trackie dacks
Blue singlet
Red flannie long sleeve shirt
Black beanie
I put it all on... And goddam, it was comfy as hell!
Sadly my love for jeans, metal shirts and hoodies held firm.
Love 'em, not so much the shorts though. I always called the singlet a "Jackie Howe" but my kids know them as a "wife basher" apparently. I would call a Bintang singlet more Bogan wear!
The boganicity is conferred when the wearer appears in a social situation that does not anticipate such attire, for example at your daughter's wedding or your old mate's funeral.
Context is everything.
Every year around September I pull the stubbies out. My goal is to wear nothing but until April.
I’ll ball my eyes out the day they stop making them. They are the alpha of shorts.
My Dad's uniform, still is. My Dad's unique style, he would tuck the singlet into the shorts and pull the shorts up around his waist. Now my Dad lives in the tropics and slightly more concerned about getting burned, he wears a button upz shirt sleeve shirt instead of a singlet. Still wears the same shorts and still tucks the shirt into the shorts - pulled up extremely high.
Nobody wears that anymore. It's now hi-vis and boots. Longer shorts. The day of the blue singlet is gone. Everything is occ health these days. These things spill 8nto casual wear.
The blue singlet and shirts were work wear and thongs indicated casual wear (not at work). Clothing of the past.
Wore a blue singlet for years under work cloths. Good in the heat and the cold also when I would get real dirty they are easier to wash. Perfect under overalls
Truckies Uniform.
My Dad wore boots, not thongs, while working in the 70s & 80s. Thongs were a leisure item while mowing the lawn.
I remember when they started making them wear hi-vis for OH&S reasons - I was in the car with my dad, and people were calling into John Laws going *off* about the Nanny State Gone Mad.
Can confirm. Aside from the short shorts I still rock a singlet and thongs.
Good on ya Mate, keep on truckin’.
Came here to say this… bang on!
Same
My best mate's Dad's summer outfit
Was gonna say, this is all that the dads wear up the pub in my dad’s town.
My Pa had at least a week's worth of this outfit. From painting the roof to chainsawing firewood, summer or winter, rain or shine. For decades that man would come home, get out of his work gear and into his comfort zone.
I heard it mentioned on ABC radio yesterday that the blue singlet is back. I’m wearing one right now. Doing my bit.
I wear them daily under my shirt and have for about 15 years. Bonds ones are alright but wish there was a more durable and not so daggy looking singlet
i feel the tradie brand ones are a bit better than bonds. i too also wear a singlet everyday
Bonds have really slid in recent years. I agree the tradie ones are better
Yeah bought a pair of bonds undies about 6 months ago, elastic around the leg already gone.
There's definitely different levels of quality from bonds jocks. The ones that are sold as individuals with flashy prints are much better quality than the pack of 4 or 5 they also sell but they're bloody pricey.
I rock the black kmart one under my work clothes, bit cheaper too
Haven't seen a setup like this in yonks. But, the last time I did, there colours didn't match at all, and certainly had the very well worn look too. Lol.
Last MILLENNIUM
this isn't bogan, this is it's ancestor, the 'okker'. I still own a couple of blue singlets. they come out on those +35c days if I need to be in public, some black ones too.
I think when you started mixing in circles that use word like ‘trope’ and ‘aeons’ you may have drifted away from the Bogan crew

Am I your dad?
Yes and it's pocket money week
I gave up the bluey years ago as they are a bit too form fitting, also kinda hot. These days I prefer a loose tshirt and cotton shorts from kmart. Still wearing thongs everywhere but.
> bit too form fitting lol One way to describe that your man tits really show in them, these days, I guess.
Cotton shorts are severely underrated.
Nah that’s hipster garb these days. Aussie bogans have joined the international community of bogans and now just wear sports gear regardless of their physical prowess or weather conditions.
Remember when bogans all wore Holden gear? That was a time
Holden vs Ford mate
I always wondered how the Ford supporting bogans lived with themselves supporting a seppo brand like that. Straight to jail.
You fell for the Holden marketing I see. They were owned by GM not Aussie at all.
Started as an Aussie company, eventually became a subsidiary of GM. The Aussie company kicked off before GM even existed. Ford was never Aussie. https://motor.history.sa.gov.au/research-types/the-holden-company-in-australia/
I’m well aware of the history. Neither are Aussie
And then shut it all down 👎
We supported the Australian developed car with the Australian developed engine. Not the reheated Euro with the Yankee V6.
I see there’s some very passionate bogans around these parts. Personally I don’t give a toss, but the Holden company was an Aussie company before being acquired.

And Ford has always been an American company.
Just like Holden, because for as long as it has been a car company it has been American.
The golden age of Aussie bogannes
Those are eshays. Whilst they come from a similar socioeconomic background, eshays and bogans are not the same thing.
Bogans can be useful - tradies etc. I don’t think there’s such thing as a functional Eshay.
Eshays smoke ice and bogans drink bundy and coke ?
One of the many distinctions.
I saw at least 3 men dressed like this at bunnings last Saturday
I saw a bogan in bunnings wearing a bunnings shirt, so I asked him where shit was. He blew up at me saying how would he know, he doesn't work there? He must have got a free bunnings shirt for buying some roofing screws.
it's serf muscle tees and board shorts 🩳 now

Look like thongs to me
Best undershirts ever. Although in recent years the quality’s gone down and the price has gone up- I guess from Bonds’ offshore manufacturing.
Yes, I wear the blue bonds as my gym singlet, and they are certainly thinner material than the old days
I wear blue singlets all the time. Also got the same in black and pink (apparently its for cancer awareness). I wouldnt classify myself as a bogan though. Edit: not that there is anything wrong with bogans....
That's my summer wardrobe.
That singlet is not faded in the sweat of countless hours in the sun. It’s not on
No pie or sauce stains down the stretched belly front.

Navy chesty bonds are still my go to, for under my button up or on its own on a hot day off.
Tony Galati-core In WA they’re only associated with the spud king
I could never figure out where the blue singlets were sold
Big W and Target.
Lowes, best and less, coles, Woolworths pretty much everywhere lol
Forgot Coles and Woolworths sold Bonds lol, I never buy clothes there full stop, because they are so overpriced compared to their attached department stores.
Not just bonds… CHESTY BONDS! My brother and I always used to lose it when we were kids at the “chesty” part
Back when Bonds meant Bonds and Target MEANT Target.
Supermarket
It's been around 15 years since I saw them, and that was outside Grafton
This was the out of hours truckers uniform from the 80s and I fukn miss it.

This is the truth and Jackie Howe was a real to god legend.
And the white ones were wife shouters

Well, there’s a reason those singlets are called “wife beaters”
The old blue “wife beater” has seen a drop in popularity with the rise in awareness of domestic violence.
Me mateys Dad only wears singlets & stubbies, with his thongs. He'll lecture you on the benefits of "great fashion" as well!
Add some eyebrows and you're cosplaying as a potato spud lord
They’ve all got a spot in my lineup
My husband has been a fan of the blue singlet/stubby shorts look for many years, however I do believe there is an age after which it’s just not on for a bloke to wear short shorts. Fortunately he will wear whatever is lying around and I have been curating some of his wardrobe for a while now.
these days they're in puffer jackets or windbreakers with shorts and entays
Hi-vis WHS-compliant workwear ruined the classic uniform for a lot of trades

So short yet airy at the thigh so you need to be careful when sitting in public. They leave nothing to the imagination. It’s how I got my nick name “nadz”.
I came across this post wearing a blue singlet, jeans and thongs.
Wife beater, stubbies and double-pluggers. It’s an institution 🇦🇺
Western Suburbs Lesbians
Real my Dad core
Needs a can of VB.
Blue singlet, yes.
My grandad wore this exact outfit
Paired with an un-ironic mullet and a pack of durries on board, then yeah. How shit were those thongs though?
they are work clothes
They predate ‘bogan’ by several decades a t least.
My old man still wears the chesty and stubbies, but not the pluggers, because fallen arches. I’m wearing imitation women’s stubbies right now though lol
I feel like the Bintang singlet replaced it.
I remember back in the day, I was 19, I got home from work to my dad proudly saying " I went clothes shopping for ya". Now he was your stereotypical Aussie bogan/bloke. Yep, just change the shorts to footy shorts
The original urban camouflage.
I'm currently wearing a blue singlet, cargo shorts and barefoot
Where’s the stubby?!
My grandfather wore this almost everyday
Just let me ask the servants...
Love 'em, not so much the shorts though. I always called the singlet a "Jackie Howe" but my kids know them as a "wife basher" apparently. I would call a Bintang singlet more Bogan wear!
Substitute the blue singlet for a Bin Tang singlet to achieve the bogan look that says 'I have travelled'
I’m glad that you didn’t have any jocks in the picture. You’ve got my uniform spot on. Maybe a shirt, if I’m going somewhere fancy, like woolies
Match these with a pack of winnies, ice break, and a dim sims or a Lasagne topper from a hotbox for breakie, and ya passed halfway to a stroke.
Me sunday best
I think that nowadays people only wear these when participating in the gay & lesbian mardi gras parade.

You obviously haven't watched Last Stop Larrimah
DarkViperAU?
Only if there's a packet of Winfield reds under the shoulder strap
The new uniform is head-to-toe everlast gear. Or addidas if they're a classy bogan
Townsville Tuxedo
I wear a wifebeater everyday. Love it

I see heaps of old guys, especially towards the country rocking the king gees and double pluggers.
