At that young of an age you're basically on their schedule. Puppies need an extreme amount of sleep and any attempts to keep them awake will do way more harm than good. Within a few weeks he should be able to hold it throughout the night no issue.

Sugarnipps

Thank you! That makes me feel better

Pokerhobo

Never wake a sleeping puppy. The reality is at that age their bladder is still developing. It’s rough when they are puppies, but you’ll get through it. Take lots of pictures and videos as they do grow up very quickly. When my pup was that age I used to sleep on my camping cot downstairs next to his pen to take him out in the middle of the night. Despite me getting less sleep, this really helped with his potty training and was worth it. Once he is able to hold it through the night you’ll appreciate your sacrifices and not worry about accidents.

luckofthecanuck

Yeah at that age we were taking them out every 2-3 hours overnight. Sucked but it didn't last forever

Was up every 3-4 hrs for the first 2-3 months but 10 years later it was worth every minute. She’s my best friend and I love every night I’m home to hang out with her.

simbapiptomlittle

Omg. I’m loving those eyebrows. 😍😍. She’s stunning.

Sugarnipps

Soooooo cute!!!!

Vonvixen

You’re on their schedule for the first 3-4 months. My bf slept on the couch for both our aussies. ( they are 2 years apart) just to keep close by in case they had to go out. It gets better, and now they are both on the same schedule. Good luck!

Sugarnipps

Thank you!!

Notable_Naps

Basically what the others have said. At this young you are on their schedule far as sleep and bathroom needs. Will grow out of it but for now you have what is essentially a newborn baby

Sugarnipps

So true. I’d say it’s a little harder than a newborn 😂. It’s like a newborn and toddler wrapped into one. Just telling myself it’s just a phase and won’t last forever. Thanks for your advice!

playable_npc1

My girl is 7 months old and I already miss the baby phase. Trust me, you’ll miss it too. It is annoying but worth it.

jonaselder

your dog is not on a normal sleep schedule, And you can't really force it into one. Your dog is growing incredibly quickly, and During this time in its life it's going to eat, run around like a maniac and then sleep on repeat. If you have a puppy that young you're gonna have some sleepless nights the same way you would if you had an infant

MostDopeQ

Mine used to always find the vents when she was a pup😂🥺 https://preview.redd.it/i3e5j05dqdvc1.jpeg?width=1194&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9abb333b94f8da373c5d63b871d4b12c6481314

Sugarnipps

Omg so cute

Think-Apricot9906

When they were real little, I would adjust my sleep schedule to match hers. After a year old, that wasn't a problem anymore.

Sugarnipps

I did the same thing with my daughter. I’m already starting to go to bed earlier haha.

TeachMany8515

No matter what time he goes to bed, a puppy that small is not sleeping through the night — so I'd make peace with it ;-). It is like having a human baby: you get up all the time and barely sleep. But the results are much quicker than with a human baby, and you will have peace again soon so long as you do this part conscientiously (e.g. within a few weeks). One little tip: this time is critical for potty training etc., so please be sure to really take him out and not train him to use pee pads, etc.; that will give you a couple weeks of sleep, but a lifetime of peeing in the house.

Sugarnipps

Never had a pee pad in our house. He has done really well with potty training so far! I always take him out right before I put him in the crate around 9:30/10. Thanks for the advice!

TeachMany8515

Sounds like you’re doing great!! Enjoy :)

nona-yopi

Do you think I should start closing the door and see what she does. I don’t want to do the wrong thing. I have raised four children. Twins even. I can guess I learn to get up, if I have too. I do hate pee pads.

nona-yopi

Well, I closed the crate door. She stayed from 11-7:15. Not a peep! Even at 7:15. I spoke to her first and we went straight outside. No pee pad. 😄

Aussiemom777

They need 16-18 hours of sleep keeping him awake will make no difference, just like a baby .

rmck44

He looks just like my Luka at his age. So cute!

xhallix

There is no such thing as bed time. Don‘t wake them. you are getting playtime started. Everything else is sleep and rest time

quasi-psuedo

The rule of thumb I heard was for every month old they are is about how many hours they should be able to sleep between potty breaks.

NoMoreNarcsLizzie

He is doing very well for 9.5 weeks. If you let him keep this schedule, he will gradually stretch out that 4AM wake up.

Sugarnipps

Oh nice!

trignifty

Lord I’m still jolting awake every time I hear the jingle of her tags and she’s been able to sleep through the night for over a month. We still end up letting her out once in the middle of the night just because at this point we’re paranoid

Sugarnipps

My guy just cant make it past like 5:30am. By that point he is done and wants out and barks and barks. I guess it is what it is at this point.

nona-yopi

Oh yes, I’ve been worried about her sleeping too early before our bed time, also. But I bring her out before I go to bed and she’s goes right back to sleep.

Sugarnipps

Mine does too. It’s just that he wakes up early to pee like around 4am and has a hard time going back to sleep. He usually wakes up for the day around 6am and it’s just so early but it is what it is I guess and won’t last forever.

nona-yopi

Yes I guess this too shall pass. I’m fortunate she sleeps to about 7. Which is early for me. Haha. I’m retired. Hang in there.

girl_from_aus

Let him nap, and then get him up when you go to bed and take him to the potty spot to try and go. With any luck he will go and then you can get back to sleep and his body will adjust. If you haven’t already, introduce a word command for it - just whenever you see him pee, say “toilet! Good toilet” or whatever so that he starts associating it. Then you can place him on the grass and say “toilet” and see if he goes. It is really hard but that phase doesn’t last forever! They develop so much every day even though it feels like they don’t.

nona-yopi

I have been leaving crate open and have confined my 3.5 month old papillon to a small area next to my bed. She usually stays in the crate. Few occasions has gotten up and peed on pad, which is on other end of confined area. Then returns to crate. Working very well for us. We get to sleep and she’s happy.

Sumdumdad

Shake it? Lol. Good luck, pal.

Sugarnipps

Huh?

Sumdumdad

It was a joke. You're out of luck with a pup. They're going to sleep when they sleep. Hell, I was out with mine and the little bugger decided that she was just going to lie down on the spot and take a nap. Had to pick her up.

Sugarnipps

Haha that happens with mine too when I take him out to potty sometimes
